Hmmmm hmmm hmm
11:43

And I can't hear any sound with Flash,and I don't getting that error message when I listening to music and using Flash
@Achu one second
@Achu Not working?!
Any other ideas???
Sorry to hear that. I never faced Shockwave Flash problem and i don't have a good solution for you.
But have you tried opening the video using Firefox?
@GevorgHindoyan
12:43

jrg
jrg
12:55
@GevorgHindoyan what is the error that chrome gave you about flash?
something like this
jrg
jrg
Refresh the page and it should work.
again that error when refreshing
again and again........
Blame Chrome
I note that I have flash plugin disabled.
jrg
jrg
Weird. Might be worth asking on the site, I can't replicate it
13:01
@jokerdino do u think that it will help
jrg
jrg
Head over to about:plugins, and then uncheck the "flash" plugin and see what happens.
unless you do flash heavy stuff, just disable it
restart browser and report back
wait for minute
thank you very very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:)
13:04
so the problem is the inbuilt Google Chrome flash plugin is interrupting the system flash plugin
will remember this
13:26
did anybody knows how Xcursor Selector works?
@marco askubuntu.com/questions/6302/how-can-you-remove-unity - i would have updated the answer for free.. :/
brb, testing the answer..
13:54
@jokerdino back?
yeah... :(
14:15
finally, i am back to Unity.
That took a good couple of minutes.
anyone got experience with the ubuntu installer just booting into a black screen?
I am on Ubuntu 12.04, and I noticed that sometimes even when an application is open, the launcher doesn't highlight it as open, nor can I find the application window anywhere in the workspace. Does this happen to anyone else too?
@Jaap3 yeah we have got a couple of questions about that issue..
By the way, this also happened when I was using Ubuntu 11.10
@geekpanth3r happened when i was using 11.10 or 12.04 beta, not anymore
it sounds like a bug, yeah
14:18
@jokerdino So, now my issue confirms that it's still there. :)
@jokerdino hmm... what do you do when that happens? Restart the system?
i just restart Unity
How do I do that?
21
Q: How do I restart Unity

Yuriy VoziyI know about unity --reset command. But how can I simply restart Unity without resetting its profile?

I can only find this one askubuntu.com/questions/126217/12-04-boots-to-black-screen, the difference being that I don't even get the option to install let alone change boot options
@Jaap3 You need to press a key when the keyboard symbol comes up
14:21
What keyboard symbol?
@Jaap3 Give me a second
Why a seperate answer instead of editing the first answer to include 12.04? — James 21 mins ago

yeah I'm not even getting to these screens :(
I'm now trying the wubi cd boot installer thingy
jrg

oh yea,.... and of course vim
If you want a gui
you use geany
jrg
jrg
use gvim
Well :D
14:57
What jrg said
That'd work too
my friend is just getting into it though and i probably want him to get set up with a gooie gui

You could use sublime text 2, its nice.

@jrg, that is only for html
jrg
jrg
@JoshuaRobison What, ST2? Or geany/vim?
I use ST2 for almost everything.
@jrg, looking to develope c++ and java
Or just download Wine and use Notepad ;)
isnt gvim just a terminal basically with vim O_o
14:59
@fossfreedom hmm there is no evolution-indicator in 12.04?
Problem?
:P
how does geany compare with eclipse?
jrg
jrg
You can use whatever you want for that, you don't need an IDE. If you're just starting, use an editor.
jrg, but then i dont have a build button O_o
15:00
emacs
or pico
@JoshuaRobison Eclipse== Big Toolchain in I'm sure your not going to use 50% of it
@jokerdino I'm just in the middle of rolling back my VM ...
@JoshuaRobison or empathy
15:01
Eclipse == slow crap, difficult to setup correctly, useless unless you're using Aptana Studio.
Aptana is awesome
@fossfreedom oops sorry, i shall wait until you are done.
I like pycharm wich is based on idea
You should probably look into:

Monodevelop,
Codeblocks,
Geany,
Bluefish,
Codelite,
Or
Gedit ;)
jrg
jrg
@JoshuaRobison You can set it up so that you do a quick little keyboard shortcut, and then it will trigger a build.

Its a duplicate of creating a user from the CLI, isn't it?
Since that is the "solution" for this problem.

That's what I was intending to do, and what i've done. :)
you done now @foss?
what does removing unity-greeter do?
... I was testing with gnome-classic - now I'm testing with gnome-shell (download servers are still slow)...
15:15
keep me posted. :)
15:38
thank goodness for google translate :) askubuntu.com/questions/127063/qbittorent-ntfs-nfts-error
@jokerdino ... I'm happy with the revisions ... it works with gnome-classic and gnome-shell. I cant find any more "unity" stuff in synaptic to remove.
@jrg -_-
@fossfreedom i tested my answer myself and it worked.
the question is should you remove unity-greeter?
I'm sure there are more than one way to do this :)
no - dont remove unity-greeter - its fundamental to lightdm
@Jaap3 If you're looking for a python/django IDE, I've got the Aptana plugin working in eclipse from repo. It uses pydev(you could probably install just pydev).

ok i'm sorry just i need help because i left my question for hours ithout reply
@JorgeCastro thanks man i will try it
you only posted the information needed to help you an hour ago, and then you buried it in a comment instead of putting it in your question, that's why it took so long.
hey @jrg
I just flagged a merge proposal
is it possible to have a merge use one title over another?
actually, the duplicate has more views than the original
come to think of it, these aren't even duplicates, they just happen to have the same solution
@JorgeCastro That's a really good point that I've seen come up before. Do you make it a dupe? Post a link as an answer and CW it? How do you think a good way is to handle that?
I just voted to reopen it
and flagged it asking for it to be reopened

Q: How to recover files deleted with rm

Mild FuzzI deleted a file from an entire drive using rm on 11.10 and I need to recover it. The problem I have is there are many different file types and the sheer volume of data is too large for me to put anywhere else without buying a lot of storage. What is the best tool/method for recovering data?

Q: How to recover deleted files?

Decio LiraAre there any tools, methods, incantations to recover recently deleted files on Ubuntu? If it makes any difference, I want to recover a Keepass 2.x database file. But would be better to have a method/tool that works on any kind of file.

Anyone here used Burg before? Looking for a better looking "grub" as at the moment I just have a custom background with different colours... would you recommend burg or is there something else?
Hmm will try burg out, seems good :) but first to customise the boot loading screen before grub (via Asus FancyStart)

@Dan2k3k4 I've used it. Even if it's not easy to set it up, I think it's a good app. You can try it, but you'll have a hard time finding a nice theme that fits your requirements
How 'easy' are the themes to set-up? I only have dual-boot (Win7, Ubuntu 12.04) but just want something a bit more 'unique' than just the terminal style grub :)
Also is the 3 second delay-time (loading-tyime?) after selecting Ubuntu from grub - part of Ubuntu, or part of grub?
As when I select Win7, it instantly shows the animation Win 7 loading screen
it will be easy if you use Super Boot Manager. it has a a burg theme manager.
about the second question: don't know, I never paid attention
20:14
@Dan2k3k4 I suspect it's part of linux in general. My observation is that linux deals more dynamically and gracefully with hardware changes. That's what you're paying three seconds for. Just my opinion, and I'm open to correction
I have some problems with my mouse behaviour in an Ubuntu 12.04 installed on vmware player. I wanted to ask some things about it, but because of the external factors (the mouse &&/|| vmplayer) I'm not sure if it's OK to create a new question on askubuntu.
@aking1012 Well I mean, after I select Ubuntu in grub, it just shows the grub background and nothing else (removes the boot options), but when selecting Windows, it switches to the animation instead. Though it's not a big deal, just wondering where I might go to customize it though I guess making it load an animation would technically 'take up more resources and cause a slight increase in delay' in loading (though I doubt it'd be noticeable, I barely restart)
@MariusBalaban Super Boot Manager? Ok I'll look into that too :) Cheers
Found a nice guide that mentions Super Boot Manager and Burg, so should be good with those
Hmm, I guess it's not possible to access Ubuntu files from Windows 7 (on dual-boot)?
@Dan2k3k4 see Ext2explore, maybe it suits your needs
@MariusBalaban works perfectly :)

awwz, so sad for you. maybe they're talking about how they're going to stage QQ
must ... know ... everything!
Hmm, I wonder if instead of installing a 'fresh' virtual OS - you could load up the other OS's that are already installed as other boot options
Though I guess it wouldn't be 'virtual' anymore...
@htorque did you try out that terminal in eclipse thing? the only thing that bothers me with it is the having to right-click to paste
20:50
@aking1012 not yet, but i'm a mouse clicker, so i wouldn't mind. :P
21:01
Hello.
Did any of the mods get my email?
@GeorgeEdison hi
@GeorgeEdison No :P
P.S. The round bubble next to my Gravatar is an ugly square in IE 8.
@Imnotthisperson You're not a mod...
...or did I miss something? :)
People use IE still? :(
21:03
@Dan2k3k4 Some Windows users do... I definitely don't.
I'm just telling you how it shows up.
@Dan2k3k4 Many companies do. It's about plug-ins and software written to support the minimum set of clients.
@GeorgeEdison :D
IE plugins.... throws up.
@GeorgeEdison I did throw up in my mouth a little when I said it...but that's the answer I see on linkedin ALL the TIME
Oh, [shudders] - remember ActiveX?
21:06
Which round bubble? You mean when you highlight over the gravatar to show the contact info?
@Dan2k3k4 I think he means the speech bubble for stackchat
like IE doesn't round the corners
is that a bug in jquery rounding? <-- my 2 second fly-by analysis
No idea.
Tweaking my pre-boot screen (before the boot-options grub/burg screens), Asus FancyStart allows for background image + custom sound - that can be loaded randomly... I wonder if the webcam can be accessed to take a screenshot as soon as the laptop is turned on? Then to display the screenshot cropped down in the boot-options screen with a message that it's been uploaded to a server (thus making anyone who steals the laptop freak out and return it)....
21:17
The chat might just be using plain old border-radius which is unsupported in IE <9 IIRC.
@Dan2k3k4 Any smart criminal who steals it would never boot it from the hard drive.
They would have some sort of LiveCD that they would use to extract information from it or wipe it clean.
So we may be getting some traffic from thinkorswim. I reported my how to get it installed and working answer for the ThinkOrSwim Ubuntu 12.04 question to their tech email and it was forwarded to their support team.
Mmm yes but doesn't the loading screen (before showing grub) always load up even with LiveCD?
You could do something with a linbios...but tape over the webcam solves it
But how many people would tape a webcam before turning a laptop on? :) Though I guess once that becomes a 'norm' for catching thieves it wouldn't be too difficult and a smart criminal would probably think twice
21:22
@Dan2k3k4 Who starts a stolen laptop connected to the internet...that takes a dumb crook
A GPS embedded into the chip-set with a mini-SIM linked that updates the laptop location would probably work better
you mean lojack for laptops? it already exists
and
http://www.itpro.co.uk/609210/intel-adds-gps-to-track-stolen-laptops
Ah, cool... :) (was just thinking that it should exist by now with the amount of smart-phones around)
Intel has some really neat asset tracking stuff going on. Like data access based on GPS location. ACLs based on geo-location and what-not
Wow, since 2008? My friend lost his at a londroid event back in 2010... if only he knew about it back then
21:27
Yeah - a smart criminal wouldn't just blindly turn on a machine they've stolen.
or they own a REALLY big faraday cage :)
or access to a faraday cage (i.e. CERN has a few...)
Most likely not...
@Dan2k3k4 I don't want to know how you know that
@GeorgeEdison - you get a star from me on that one
:D
Totally unrelated... but Ampache is awesome (not Apache the web server - Ampache the streaming audio web application).
21:35
that is pretty neat...have you used it? and if so what infrastructure does it rely on? like a web front-end for a vlc streamer instance/red7 or what?
It's hosted on Gitorious too :)
It just uses PHP.
I'm using it right now :)
cringe PHP
Basically the idea is that you copy a bunch of MP3 / WMA / Whatever files to a folder on your web server and then point Ampache to it.
Then you generate a playlist and it will be streamed to the media player of your choice.
I wonder if they'll support ubuntu-one or google-disk(whatever it's called)
21:39
(You can use VLC, Rhythmbox (IIRC), Windows Media Player, etc.)
@aking1012 If your PHP install can access the Ubuntu One folder, then sure.
I realize PHP isn't something to jump up and down over but... it is very common for even a shared hosting provider to offer PHP.
In fact, I'm running Ampache off a shared hosting account right now.
Can't argue with cost and ease-of-use.
Can't argue with the cost for sure. I'm just a python junkie...if only I could find a way to package it properly for launchpad
