hmm....
1 sec
sure thing
ur in which view now?
go to view>folders>all
then right click on your account (in the sidebar)
select subscribe
there u'll see the list of all folders.
select all u want.. :)
the subsribe part...I cannot find :(
wierd...
ure rt clicking on the account name, not folders, right?
when you select the aaccount name, do u see something like this??
yes, on the account name
14:04
when you select the aaccount name, do u see something like this??
no. no tabs at all. One sec...lemme send you a screenshot too
make sure you selected view>folders>all
that is done
wait.. the tabs are my customization. they wont appear in urs by default
have a look at this.....see that only the inbox folders appear?
14:10
perfectly fine.
scroll down
and you will find something like..
manage folder subscriptions
@Elysium did you find it?
no
nothing like that
Below the email and accounts headings, theree will be one more..
titled Advanced features
did you find something like that?
oke, step 1...is done...already
the one with the all folders
but I dont see anything about subsriptions :(
did u find 'advanced features'
account settings and preferences
these are the 2 things I can find
14:16
what options do you havethere?
wait
got subsribe now
from File
ok.
do you see a list of all folders?
How to make music? http://askubuntu.com/questions/122272/how-to-make-music?atw=1 #softwarerecommendation
no :D it is all empty
I really dont get it
ure using thunderbird for gmail accounts right?
14:19
hotmail
3 hotmail accounts
ok. Shouldn't matter anyway
are u able to send a mail to yourself?
if yes, you should be getting a folder list there..
unless hotmail handles things differently, which i'm not sure of..
yeah, I can receive and send messages
now, the sent folder appeared....
this is extremely weird
hmm... agreed...
and what other folders do you have?
loads of folders that I have created during many years since I started using hotmail
if you have made any, while using the web interface, they must appear..
14:24
but none of them appears
yes, true
but I need the old folders too
when I click on subsribe..nothing happens. As if I had nothing to subsribe too
check this..
go to preferences>
no no
account settings>
synchronization and storage
its by default set to something like last 30 days or so.
change it tofirst option.
synchronize all messages locally regardless of age.
that is going to take a lot of time and space if ur mailbox is huge,
that is done already
but it only synchronized my inbox
now this is something weird...
by the way....that synch and storage is not in the account settings
lemme figure out where it is
ok, no idea where that is
it is usually found in edit>account settings.. And thats something more weird
sorry, but i'm out of ideas. :(
14:32
yeah, me too
I am newbie, but not dumb....and still cannot fix it
kinda weird
what's the command line to update to the latest version of thunderbird?
try restarting thunderbird.. just in case.....
nah
done that a million times
11.0.1 is my version
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
will update everything you have
but if you want to specifically update tb alone,
use sudo apt-get install thunderbird
that installs if not present, and upgrades if already present
I'm using 11.0.1 too..
nah, didnt solve anything
I think I am done with Thunderbird
thanks anyway
@Elysium probably a good idea. Desktop Email is quickly becoming a thing of the past.
I only offer anecdotal evidence of my prior statement... so dont take it to the bank. just know that your'e joining the rest of the power users in the cloud.
14:40
well, thunderbird seems to be a nice application...since I have tons of email accounts that I kinda actively use
I've accomplished what you're seeking using gmail's labels and account importing.
I think it would be fairly difficult to use my hotmail accounts in gmal
*gmail
I use a google apps domain and I have about 12 email addresses to keep track of between work personal and etc. Its nice to have a central communication hub with single sign on. That and I have calendars for each account, and my docs are shared with a group of individuals when applicable using the host/creator address as the delimeter.
Not at all. You setup a pop3 import, add it under your accounts tab and you can send email as that hotmail account directly from gmail. Plus you can set an option to automatically use that account when the email was sent to that account.
I have [email protected] forwarded to gmail and use it with great success daily.
I think I'll give thunderbird a last chance
gonna reinstall it and see what happens
i believe that Live mail is catching up to gmail's functionality so you may even have that capability in live mail already. I just find their user interface to be a mess.
14:44
thanks for all the info guys
best of luck to ya @Elysium

Q: Sanyal of Calcutta

SKSanyalI am unable to configure the BSNL broadband connection. I do reside at Kolkata(erstwhile) Calcutta. Otherwise everything is ok. Thank you all. SKSanyal

@DoR ... i dont.. understand the question.
or is that what you were pointing out?
DoR
DoR
Yes, it doesn't make any sense.
Its too localized too i would think.. Is it worth it to drop a comment on asking for more information? maybe cite how to ask a good question -- or should i just vote to close?
14:51
@Mahesh are you there? I'd like to ask another thing......when I click on subsribe it wont lemme choose any of my accounts. Why is that?
it is all blank and empty....next to the account option
15:13
move along, nothing to see here...
@DoR lolz? it sounds like the "I am nazab of bengal"
nothing in the question.
deserves a couple of data.
remunerates @jokerdino
Thanks :D
I wonder if that will work with all the code i'm slinging for classes in school.... :-?
@jokerdino is too good for this world :)
15:25
@lazyPower you can try your luck. you don't know when someone has too much free time.
@Takkat finally, someone realized that. :P been telling people that and they think i am insane :)
That's proof!
haha, well said.
time to boot into Windows because MS word has superior formatting features.
dude
use markdown and convert to PDF
my cookie got stuck in my throat
format with CSS
profit
That or learn LaTeX
15:31
it might work if i didn't have to have a TOC.
But I might learn LaTex.
My TOC from Word were never the same with every edit I made...
There is an update table option that automates things.
I'm using markdown for nearly everying in school these days. Except APA formatted papers. I haven't got the CSS just right for that.
It might have been fixed over the years, I admit.
But skepticism with bugfixes for Word is appropriate.
i don't want to use MS word but LO is just a (poor man's) joke.
15:34
me too (unremoved)
o.O
I am hoping Canonical builds an Office Suite from scratch.
so much for wishful thinking
I didnt want to +1 jokerdino's comment that through the magic of latency appeared before mine.
LO is good enough to do most tasks. Just like Google Docs. Why do we need yet another? lets help the "poor jokes" of the world be less of a poor joke and be a vaible alternative.
@lazyPower i know. i got that :)
@lazyPower - hey
@aking1012 - hey yourself mister.
15:40
so I finally decided to do a monstrous guide for installing ubuntu and backtrack side by side with luks full disk encryption and shared home...the answer is LONG
The improvements made (and the planned ones) are nice. If LO gets better, I am all the more happy.
So i heard back from Kevin this morning. He's pimping your name to schlumburger as an IT Sec analyist if the position isn't filled. Once he hears something back if its positive he'll be in touch with you @aking1012.
Lesser reasons to boot into Windows.
@lazyPower cool
for whatever reason he's contacting ME instead of you, like i'm some kind of proxy...
15:41
The only thing I use Windows is for the MS office and the Cisco NAC agent is not configured for Linux clients for my network.
;) he knows you, he doesn't know me
/me opens port 22 for proxy access, and dassit. You'll get nothing more.
@aking1012 if he does contact you, slb.com for your company research prior to interview.
its a good place to work, if not a bit corporate. They hire 30% of all ITT graduates in the SAP / CNT / CET fields.
and bookmarked
thanks again btw
hey find me a job in another 5 years, i might migrate to the US.
NP man. I just hope something comes of it.
15:46
either way, we'll see. you did what you could do.
Kevin's been good to me and my clique. If this falls through i'll see what else I can do. You're talents are entirely too impressive to lay dormant outside of the industry when you could be padding a fat resume.
^--- is probably true
I'm getting close to making that leap from financial security into freelance work and starvation. I'm seeing too many opportunities cross my path that i'm passing on for the allmighty dollar.
And i could be working on a FOSS stack if i do that :P
+1 for the underdog
it's something to think about, but the dollar is a powerful thing
brb making more coffee
@aking1012 its along the lines of guns or butter
I'd rather have a wide bum and be happy with butter than be armed to the teeth ready for war and miserable.
Theres one thing I'm thinking about doing while i'm financially stable, and thats investing in a few startups I know well, and trying to help them succeed.
16:00
gd night everyone
o/ @jokerdino
night jokerdino
@lazyPower I know what you mean

Q: How to move the Dash launcher button to the panel as per the Natty design?

Ruben BakkerIs it possible to use the Natty BFB (Ubuntu button that opens the dash) in Precise? I really liked the design of having the button on the menu as opposed to having it on the launcher.

I am pretty sure this is a dupe
16:50
@JorgeCastro sort of... the "dupe" was closed because James thought it was a bug... I've asked James what he would like to do. Watch this space.
17:03
I remember seeing one like this a while back
like, right after the button was moved, heh

Undo zcat to Internal HDD and recover the Data http://askubuntu.com/questions/122296/undo-zcat-to-internal-hdd-and-recover-the-data?atw=1 #harddrive
@lazyPower - still around? check this wall of text: unix.stackexchange.com/questions/36434/…
17:48
@Elysium I've no idea why that happens!! if waiting for a while doesn't help, you may try contacting thunderbird team.. may be thats a bug.. Sorry I've run out of ideas... :|
I think I know the answer....it wont subscribe to folders in hotmail (only subsribes to inboxes) that were created with the internet browser
@Mahesh thanks for the effort though
@Elysium hey does hotmail have an option to select what folders are to be made available for imap access? if such a thing exists, then thats a place to check..

Q: What are the different Ubuntu Kernel git tags for?

Marco CeppiGoing through the Ubuntu Kernel git source there are several tags, the meaning of which I'm uncertain of. How can I find out which tag is the one currently in the repos for each version of Ubuntu? Is it okay to compile the latest tagged versions of the kernel?

This seems abandoned...
but i guess we'd like to see it answered..
anyone?????
@Mahesh sorry, git is most assuredly NOT my strong point
may be can @fossfreedom help?
18:38
@Mahesh just drop a comment to @MarcoCeppi - maybe Marco knows the answer and can answer himself... or just he can just close since is now uninterested... :D
sure.. :)

Q: Process not working when executed in background inside shell script

AnkurVjI have an application that runs fine, with and without '&' when run directly from the terminal. However, if I try to execute it from a shell script, it works only if the trailing '&' is skipped. Thus, I am unable to start this process in background from inside the shell script. <Path...

I've got some updates pending, just a sec
Niiiice - skipped over the spoon feeding and read the meat and potatoes. Thats slick.
Yeah, I tried to provide a useful answer and just give the answer...while saying "the answer was found by google"

I can appreciate
whats the question of interest here?

aking1012Warning, wall of text incoming. It's as well formatted as I could make it. If we're going to answer this, we're going to answer the whole thing. I'm not doing another answer on this, so here goes: Let's pretend you know absolutely nothing, and I'm feeding you keystrokes. This tells you ev...

(appreciates @aking1012 for the patience and effort put in)

Indeed. its pretty comprehensive
Still panning out the last bit of testing, but this is where the busybox question on AU came from
Luks fail puts you in busybox
19:16
can someone take a look at this?

Q: When I attempt to remove g++ why does apt-get attempt to install it?

irrational JohnRecently I upgraded a 64-bit install of Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04. There were errors while installing the update packages and I was forced to reboot using an older kernel (3.0.0-17 I think) in recovery mode. I then ran fsck and package recovery and then attempt to complete whatever else remained to b...

build-essential package is my guess
i didn't get you @aking1012
dependency. he removes it and apt tries to satisfy a dependency. just a guess
he's simulating a apt-get remove... so my guess is that ur guess is not so accurate..
possibly. i didn't jump over and read the whole thing

kk..
gud nyt.. :)
5 minutes to the daily 6-hr cutoff.. :(
morning folks
@wisemonkey wats d time at ur place?
19:46
i think i'm done editing and re-editing that question. if they want dual boot BT and Ubuntu, I did everything for them except the kernel parameters
can someone look into this duplicate

Q: 'Can not mount /dev/loop0' fault during installation CD booting

MayoI have currently WindowsXP installed in my computer. I burned Ubuntu 10.04 into a CD and then inserted the CD into the drive and booted. When the CD boots I get to a terminal screen that outputs: BusyBox v1.13.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.13.3-1ubuntu11) built in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-...

I agree it's a dupe of the corrupt image answer
@aking1012 how do i install BT along side Ubuntu? runs
as long as you don't want luks+lvm it's pretty straightforward
idk, if he doesn't accept the answer i might add the kernel parameters...or a video of it working so he reads the grub.cfg on BT
@lazyPower mr funny man :)
trollolol
19:56
yeah...i got that. hence the funny man comment
thinking about adding the kernel parameters and blogging that instead of an article since it took so long
you should
I looked for the video of the get carter scene 'In dealing with an armed man, the best course of action is to run' but i couldn't find it
you know, throw in a "why would you want to do this" paragraph and you have yourself a well written paper.
i should print that out and turn i tin, citing 3/4 of the paper as your work and see if i get credit from my Group Dynamics professor
epic
@lazyPower I'm also looking at a grub chainloading isos from isos one as a response to this quandry on hak5 forums.hak5.org/index.php?showtopic=14123 evidently the brains over there don't have it working
O.o
wat?
That seems... inefficient.
20:01
it also answers an askubuntu question....
mount an iso contained in an iso...
why not just extract the iso and boot the stupid thing directly?
fair point
yo dawg, i heard you like sandboxes inside your sandboxes, so i installed a sandbox inside your sandbox so you can sandbox while you sandbox.
5
say that five times fast and i'll give you a cookie
@lazyPower say you're doing it from a thumbdrive and you want a diagnostic iso, a netbsd SAN iso, and i cant type any more laughing too hard
again, partition your thumbdrive and boot it directly, or Gasp use a VM
20:04
i know
or you do what i said above about sandboxing in your sandbox so you can sandbox while you sandbox.
you got a star from me on that one btw
haha
Nice
>.> i hate java
you are not alone
back in a bit
20:22
@jrg edited my question, on the link. Were you thinking of the accepted answer or the question?
@lazyPower grrrr... ;)
Bounty offered: How to remove Mono? http://askubuntu.com/questions/12897/how-to-remove-mono?atw=1 #mono
@lazyPower I like Java ;)
to code in
gist.github.com/2394658 -- it hates life and does not draw the updates like its supposed to
@lazyPower have you heard about a site called Stackoverflow.com ? you can ask about this stuff there.
20:30
@Alvar <3
@lazyPower :O
" // swap? yep, swap. " :D
@lazyPower really nice comments! :D
jrg
jrg
@Alvar let me check.
I just sent over the code to my professor with screenshots i'll let him sort it and and tell me what i'm doing wrong. Over staring at this JVomit
That answer provided about mono removal will not remove all traces
mono-runtime is not removed in the command
@ManishSinha - why dont you add that as an answer ? seems reasonable to me.
20:41
@jrg k
jrg
jrg
@Alvar looks good
@jrg thanks.
20:53
@fossfreedom I added it as a comment. Will edit the answer
@ManishSinha ... that's fine ... what I was saying (probably very poorly) - add an answer - because the currently accepted one doesnt apply to 12.04.
