@Elysium probably a good idea. Desktop Email is quickly becoming a thing of the past.
I only offer anecdotal evidence of my prior statement... so dont take it to the bank. just know that your'e joining the rest of the power users in the cloud.
I use a google apps domain and I have about 12 email addresses to keep track of between work personal and etc. Its nice to have a central communication hub with single sign on. That and I have calendars for each account, and my docs are shared with a group of individuals when applicable using the host/creator address as the delimeter.
Not at all. You setup a pop3 import, add it under your accounts tab and you can send email as that hotmail account directly from gmail. Plus you can set an option to automatically use that account when the email was sent to that account.
I have [email protected] forwarded to gmail and use it with great success daily.
i believe that Live mail is catching up to gmail's functionality so you may even have that capability in live mail already. I just find their user interface to be a mess.
I am unable to configure the BSNL broadband connection. I do reside at Kolkata(erstwhile) Calcutta. Otherwise everything is ok.
Thank you all.

Its too localized too i would think.. Is it worth it to drop a comment on asking for more information? maybe cite how to ask a good question -- or should i just vote to close?
I didnt want to +1 jokerdino's comment that through the magic of latency appeared before mine.
LO is good enough to do most tasks. Just like Google Docs. Why do we need yet another? lets help the "poor jokes" of the world be less of a poor joke and be a vaible alternative.
so I finally decided to do a monstrous guide for installing ubuntu and backtrack side by side with luks full disk encryption and shared home...the answer is LONG
So i heard back from Kevin this morning. He's pimping your name to schlumburger as an IT Sec analyist if the position isn't filled. Once he hears something back if its positive he'll be in touch with you @aking1012.
Kevin's been good to me and my clique. If this falls through i'll see what else I can do. You're talents are entirely too impressive to lay dormant outside of the industry when you could be padding a fat resume.
I'm getting close to making that leap from financial security into freelance work and starvation. I'm seeing too many opportunities cross my path that i'm passing on for the allmighty dollar.
And i could be working on a FOSS stack if i do that :P
I'd rather have a wide bum and be happy with butter than be armed to the teeth ready for war and miserable.
Theres one thing I'm thinking about doing while i'm financially stable, and thats investing in a few startups I know well, and trying to help them succeed.
Is it possible to use the Natty BFB (Ubuntu button that opens the dash) in Precise?
I really liked the design of having the button on the menu as opposed to having it on the launcher.
@Elysium I've no idea why that happens!! if waiting for a while doesn't help, you may try contacting thunderbird team.. may be thats a bug.. Sorry I've run out of ideas... :|
@Elysium hey does hotmail have an option to select what folders are to be made available for imap access? if such a thing exists, then thats a place to check..
Going through the Ubuntu Kernel git source there are several tags, the meaning of which I'm uncertain of.
How can I find out which tag is the one currently in the repos for each version of Ubuntu? Is it okay to compile the latest tagged versions of the kernel?
@Mahesh just drop a comment to @MarcoCeppi - maybe Marco knows the answer and can answer himself... or just he can just close since is now uninterested... :D
I have an application that runs fine, with and without '&' when run directly from the terminal. However, if I try to execute it from a shell script, it works only if the trailing '&' is skipped. Thus, I am unable to start this process in background from inside the shell script.

Warning, wall of text incoming. It's as well formatted as I could make it.
If we're going to answer this, we're going to answer the whole thing. I'm not doing another answer on this, so here goes:
Let's pretend you know absolutely nothing, and I'm feeding you keystrokes.

Recently I upgraded a 64-bit install of Ubuntu 11.10 to 12.04. There were errors while installing the update packages and I was forced to reboot using an older kernel (3.0.0-17 I think) in recovery mode. I then ran fsck and package recovery and then attempt to complete whatever else remained to b...
I have currently WindowsXP installed in my computer.
I burned Ubuntu 10.04 into a CD and then inserted the CD into the drive and booted.
When the CD boots I get to a terminal screen that outputs:
