cool. then maybe we should all follow that hosting an apt-repository on S3 bit. the command-line to add it might be marginally longer for apt-add-repository, but the point remains the same
aaa ok I was looking at that yesterday. Haven't had a much closer look yet, just read what was on the page. So basically what does it doe with the 12 column layout?
I let it run for a while and then I realized not only did it back up everything from the my old BUT also made a dupe folder inside the /home/alex dir also called "alex" which contained all the same files and in turn caused my Hard drive's free space to go from 160GB - 1.5GB
@LuisAlvarado here's the latest command I used: rsync --progress -r /media/ALEXPOULOS/backup/alex/ ~ /home/
@LuisAlvarado and the output was this: rsync: recv_generator: mkdir "/home/Music" failed: Permission denied (13) *** Skipping any contents from this failed directory ***
so how do I make sure its not going to create this dupe directory and fill up my hard drive space again
@LuisAlvarado no no - i moved my every file from my old Home folder over to my external drive so I could make a new user and set as admin - that way it would get rid of the errors with metacity
Anyone here helping Alex to solve his problem - This is the problem: http://askubuntu.com/questions/121957/12-04-does-anyone-know-how-to-fix-this-all-of-a-sudden-my-terminal-shortcut-d#comment145517_121957
I suggested creating a new user account because it seemed to be localized to the config. files
Can you answer this? Cannot change audio output for Chromium or Firefox http://askubuntu.com/questions/120910/cannot-change-audio-output-for-chromium-or-firefox?atw=1 #sound
We don't help anyone with bugs or bug reports. your problem was a bug as it wasn't intended to happen. The actual procedure is to find a workaround with how to solve your problem and then filing a bug report on Launchpad so that the developers can fix the bug and prevent it from happening to others.
Ask Ubuntu is not intended to solve bugs. And, your case was 12.04, which is not even released yet.
If a method works for me and I post it as answer and someone else says it works for him too. And then a third guy comes along saying it doesn't work, how do I proceed?
@jokerdino - just tested it again, and all I got was a black background behind my log-in dialog. I did set the background using the lightdm user as well. It isn't until I do: dbus-send --system --print-reply --dest=org.freedesktop.Accounts /org/freedesktop/Accounts/UserYOURID org.freedesktop.Accounts.User.SetBackgroundFile string:YOURWALLPAPER
that the default wallpaper actually shows up. — Garyyesterday
Just leave it. There are default installs(of which I am not one) and custom installs. When someone says "didn't work for me" I say "okay, might work for someone else...downvote me if you must"
It kinda works, but it's uber-hack...in no way ready for stack apps on github or something. If I clean it up a little more, I might consider sending it to the people I know sort of. It's just NOT production code.
@Ravi just so you know, I made some progress on multiboot isos today. you can install grub to an iso and chainload other isos. performance is somewhat lacking though
I am using ubuntu 11.04
II wanted to enable auto-login to the (virtual ?) terminal that I obtain by pressing alt+ctrl+f2 ( tty2). So I followed various instructions on the web for doint the same :
In /etc/init/tty2.conf
I tried replacing the original line with :
exec /sbin/mingetty --autologi...
