jrg
jrg
00:01
@RolandTaylor Its in my AU profile, heck, its almost everywhere. :p
@jrg lol
it autocompleted when I invited you
Btw how am I doing?
Looks cool.
Okay lol, cause I have not done serious coding in a little while (out of practice)
Once we get a good handle on the syntax we can start writing the browser.
:)
This is slightly surreal
we may be on the verge of the next big revolution in the web :P
00:15
@GeorgeEdison I was wondering when that was going to come up
@RolandTaylor I know :P
@aking1012 I vote for Qt.
Any seconders?
me :D
I like GTK+, but I'm not a vala programmer as yet
Well, the thing with GTK+ is that it really makes porting to Windows and Mac a pain.
Trust me - porting StackApplet 1.5 to Windows was a pain.
With Qt, simply open the project, hit compile, and you're done.
Hopefully the GTK+ developers will soon wake up to that reality, because it is such a great toolkit :(
(It's many shortcomings and head-scratch-inducing "????_????" aside)
/me likes gtk too...but cross-compiling with it is the suck
00:22
Also, Qt apps can easily be ported to mobile devices.
...and there is even an attempt to port Qt to Metro (Windows 8's new interface).
(Not that I condone or even like Metro or anything... but if people use it - we should support it)
/troll on
Please!
Say it ain't so!
For mobile, I took a look at Xamarin. It's actually really neat. Mono.Net for android and iOS with only UI code changes.
Does Mono.Net on Android require the installation of a separate runtime?
As far as I know, yes
Haven't actually done anything with it yet, but the concept of portable from iOS to Android had me hooked
Yeah, if this is going to succeed then we need to make a mobile client.
Okay, history will be made here: what shall we name the browser?
00:31
@GeorgeEdison Sanity
Perhaps "OOmph"? (Although I tend to read that like "zero miles per hour")
That's a nice one...I might have gone a little snarky.
@aking1012 I'll make another doc for us to discuss the name in.

Q: Installing openjdk-7-jdk does not update java (which is still version 1.6)

trav1thI am having issues updating Java. I am running Ubuntu 11.10. I can execute sudo apt-get install openjdk-7-jdk and it completes successfully. javac -version is 1.7, however java -version is 1.6. This is similar to this problem but my issue is not, as far as I can tell, the path. $ echo $PATH /us...

Lol the two halves of my brain are fighting lol
00:46
The first version is born:
(Well, it's not complete yet :P)
Are you planning on making it a webkit+ thing or just an OOML browser
Just an OOML browser.
Obviously we will need to write:
1. A parser.
2. An HTTP (or whatever protocol) client.
3. Code to display (render) the page.
4. Cookies! (Gotta love 'em!)
^--- Needs a nice logo.
mmm cookies :D
@GeorgeEdison is Google Analytics broken on 2buntu?
It might be.
I'm not sure if I remember where I put the tracking code.
If it was in the theme's header file then it might be broken.
I think we would be better off just using a plugin for that.
00:57
ahh
I'll probably fix that later lol
Okay, I'm taking a break to shoot randomly on Urban Terror, comments are very welcome on my "randomness" of code :P
Cool.
Maybe I'll have a nice icon when you get back.
sweet :D
@aking1012 its fun doing that, if you're willing to live with the kitchen sink.
What did you use to make that?
Looks like inkscape maybe?
Maybe?
@lazyPower yeah. I did that for a youtube playlist player so I didn't have to have a browser window open
01:47
i recall you saying that
neat
I'm digging this post by george of browserling
they offer ssh tunnel support? Zing!
export Display= and bam
@GeorgeEdison If I may ask, what did you use to make that logo?
02:03
@HotrodJP99 skill :D
(Inkscape)
(Most likely answer)
oh cool thx
@RolandTaylor o/
@lazyPower \o :D hey
i think i have a idea for a logo, mind if i help?
@lazyPower Did you catch wind of George's idea?
@HotrodJP99 be our guest :)
02:04
thx
the OOML browser?
and the whole concept surrounding OOML
I did not get htat far no, i'm still working :|
we picked up new clients this week. so i'm on fire.
that and my SEO specialist decided it was time for her to take an adventure into VPS land - setup a network of about 50 wordpress sites that were all compromised.
its been a fun day ^.^ (sarcasm intended)
I wish she would have listened and just gone with our Ondina hosting solution. Marco doesnt F around with security.
02:07
exactly
so he didnt spin up instances in 5 minutes when she emailed.. so what? at least they are secure.
To break into Ondina you need to kidnap the keys and steal Marco from them :)
Its like this, they run in secure sandboxes.
this solution has CPANEL running as root
i have a 50mb /var/log/messages file full of brute force ssh attempts from a non-reverselookupable ip
and i dont trust anything about this environment. I'm about to stick a fork in it and call it "toast"
i'm not saving anything from here. i cant vouch for its integrity
02:09
hahaha
looks like the person was trying to bring the system to its knees with logging alone lol
"If all else fails, fill up the storage"
yup, i had an instance like this with a poorly configured wordpress site on goodwillcardonation. They had about 8 billion unused plugins active. and most if not all of them were out of date.
D:
what a mess
within 3 hours of the site being deployed it got hit by an attack. i redeployed from the AMI i created while it was still in the protective shell of the firewall, and stripped it down, upgraded it, and redeployed it.
@HotrodJP99 Inkscape.
nobody knew. but the 80mb log i saved was a telling story
02:12
ouch
who knew curl was used to pen test htese days
you should buy a cape lol
You're a kind of super hero
naw, i just care about things under my jurisdiction.
@aking1012 is the real hero.
@HotrodJP99:
@lazyPower Oh?
@GeorgeEdison ould you help me with making a perfect cube? Im having troubles
02:13
He gave you the winning advice?
hi to all
@lazyPower hero? are you talking about the nuking meterpreter thing?
@user49523 hi, and welcome :)
nope. He just inspires me to be more security conscience.
yeah your metasploit video was pretty intense.
@HotrodJP99 I think you just need to hold down Ctrl to draw a perfect square and then there is a 3D effect that I think you apply.
I'm not 100% sure on that though.
02:14
i am trying to use owncloud but not sure if is realy working
@user49523 describe le problem :P
@GeorgeEdison I'll see if I can find it fast
yea there is a setting called 3D cube, thats what i was talking bout
i have use instrutions from a question that i made but i don't know if i am not online instead i am on my local computer
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
I got ya. Owncloud is a webservice, not a GUI application.
You can only see it from a web browser, and as for how you access it, I can't tell you off hand cause I don't have an active owncloud instance right now (server is sitting here... doing nothing)
@lazyPower I guess you heard what happened to me?
02:19
i am in localhost/owncloud/files/index.php this means that i am in my local cloud?
i have a deep passionate loathing for cpanel
2
and if so how can i go online?
@user49523 I am not sure off hand, I'll have to find the owncloud documentation
Not to be cruel btw, but Google is a very useful tool...
i am not sure if owncloud provide a service of online storage
or is ir provide by other web services that use ownclud
@user49523 Owncloud has a webservice of their own but it has not yet launched.
02:26
so i can't upload stuff like in ubuntu 1
to owncloud online service
no, you need your own owncloud server
I think you are confused as to what owncloud is
where do i edit the default template for the new Guest account? (it's not in /etc/skel is it?)
yes confuse
@airtonix it is
@user49523, owncloud is a self hosted dropbox type thing.
@RolandTaylor cheers
02:29
@GeorgeEdison not at all. What happened?
do you know when owncloud will launch the webservice?
@lazyPower One of my websites got hacked.
Not the wiki?
Nope - this was an FTP-based attack.
back
@user49523 they will alert us via email (if you sign up)
It apparently will launch in just under a week :D
02:35
@RolandTaylor: Did you see the new logo? It's not that exciting, but it works.
@GeorgeEdison yep :D
well i finished a very basic "rough draft" of what i was thinking for reevolution
but scince i cant put pics on chat do you guys have any ideas
You can paste a link to the picture though, right?
You can put them on imgur first and then post the link here
@GeorgeEdison I fixed the GA code :D
i find out when they will be launching in about 6 day and 8 hours owncloud.com
thanks for your answers
@HotrodJP99 Neat.
You might want to make the letters appear as if they were written on the faces of the cube.
Nice, and what he said
yea i wanted to do that but idk
how
I'm not sure myself lol
Oh, it's a bit tricky but possible.
02:43
but I could try to replicate that in Blender
When you click on an item, you will get the resize handles.
Then I could make svg from a png
Click on it again, and you get rotation / shearing handles.
ok ill try
The shearing handles are what you're looking for.
02:44
those are the ones on the NSEW
yea i got it. uploading...
Awesome!
yea it could get so much better though. Like adding shadow, etc.
@GeorgeEdison dude that stinks
ProFTPD?
@GeorgeEdison, inkscape has a 3d object tool.
02:53
@lazyPower It was running PureFTP I believe.
@GeorgeEdison, and a perspective warping tool, you may also want to experiment with line effects
@GeorgeEdison, which is actually called "Path Effects" under > Path > Path Effect Editor
@HotrodJP99 I'm trying it in Blender3D
yea you guys make it good, it be great if yall used the idea of the 3D cube
Does a 3d cube with letters on each side scale as well as a simpler icon for lower resolutions? hides
im not sure
02:57
@aking1012 It should.
@GeorgeEdison Okay. Good. I'm just scared of "pretty" icons.
@aking1012 :)
We could always make a glowing ball...
but that would be boring :)
Firs step :)
Thats awesome
makes mine look like a 3 year olds scribble
:P lol nah
this one is for fancy stuff
as in for like if we do fancy 3D graphics for showing off or w/e
what the heck... let me just show off FOR REAL
la la la
waiting on G+
Can you answer this? How to get SRGP working? http://askubuntu.com/questions/26650/how-to-get-srgp-working?atw=1 #graphics
yea i saw some of your art earlier. you know you way with these programs
When did u start with computers
when I was a child
@RolandTaylor Now you made the logo with blender?
I'm not an expert, just someone who tries anything 100 times
:P
@HotrodJP99 I'm working on it right now
cool is it a easy to use program
03:15
not at first, but once you learn it, it's a breeze :D
I'm actually planning to run hangouts to teach people how to use blender soon from now
(within the coming month or so)
hangouts? like a video chat type thing?
yep
Are you on Google+?
@GeorgeEdison that's it so far, still got some ways to go
03:19
nope. its says im to young. and thats awesome! but skype is another option
I hardly use Skype lawl
@HotrodJP99 you're below 13 O.o?
i just turned 13
lemme try it
It doesn't let people below 13 join I think
I will probably have to find a way to record the hangouts for people who cannot attend
03:22
i just got it! :D
yay
brb
food time
yea i think ima do the same
back
03:43
back
whats up
i added you in my circle of friends on g+
@RolandTaylor hey man i gotta hit the sack, see ya round
@HotrodJP99 cya later :D
I'll add you back in a minute
^--- Now with tab support!
Can't wait to see what that looks like on Ubuntu.
:D
Btw I started work on a mockup, I'll be sure to update it as you develop, and then if there are any suggestions I'll pass them along :)
04:03
Should look a bit better in the next iteration
annnnd I loathe cross-compiling...
@RolandTaylor - nice work btw
@aking1012 thanks :D
Any suggestions?
Nothing beyond changing colors a bit...that's a purely aesthetic change though
Not critical of the current ones, it just doesn't feel right
I wouldn't mind doing that :P, what's your colour suggestion?
I so suck at giving the right answer while still giving the right question...
04:21
@GeorgeEdison thats no bueno bro
when did this happen?
Apparently the intrusion took place March 12.
It was later discovered that one of the FTP accounts was compromised.
How did that happen?
bute force with a weak root password
@lazyPower >.>
Exactly
no triggers were setup on the log files, nobody bothered to change the host password or set up proper firewall rules, the list goes on and on
it was a cherry, and that dude plucked it.
04:27
almost done with my latest task...cross-compiling crunch (wordlist generator) for windows. fighting with the win32 pthreads port at the moment
@lazyPower I'm beginning to take a second look at some of my security procedures.
They should be the first look, the second look, and the third look. (taken from a conversation over beers with a pen tester buddy)
it makes me want to run OpenBSD
2
I'll unstar it if you want...it just struck me funny
nope ;)
@lazyPower - Did I tell you I got the core of spike compiling as libspike.a so it plays nicely with modern development tools?
04:37
I dont know what SPIKE is
is it akin to BURP?
sort of...but not really
i see its either an application level proxy or its a php auditing tool
it's a fuzzer that's used mostly for network protocols
ah, cool
burp kind of fuzzes urls...so it's kind of the same, but not really
04:41
yeah, i've seen both of them in backtrack4
Even though i never use it, i have a copy of BT on a thumbdrive in my laptop case
just incase i feel the need
spike hasn't been updated in a while and somebody wanted a gcc blahblah line earlier today, so i got a hair to make it play nicely with eclipse-CDT
neat
Thats genuinely useful
Yeah...it'll be on my github eventually
I havent bothered stalking you there yet, but i'll put that on my TODO list.
>< - I don't put most of the interesting stuff on github. It's mostly for "look I can do interesting things when i want to"
04:46
Thats what my blog is for, only I think i left out the interesting part.
my blog is crazy lame...almost 100% rant
haha
I have this theory that if i force myself to blog about technical things, i'll get better at technical writing.
This too is probably true
And translating engineering speak into plain ol common english so i can communicate with non geeks about geeky subjects. Instead of the tired mantra of , x is like chocolate, y is like peanutbutter. You only want chocolate in your peanut butter in xyz situation.
I'm so switching the star to that comment
i can't undo the last one...too old...
04:49
Yay i have a fan!
Well you've been bringing the funny tonight
thanks for the vote tho :)
GNight everyone
05:03
What I hate about IRC: no flagging.
05:22
Standby... bringing Stack Mobile back online...
05:40
back as promised, but alas I must go
@Roland: Ah, one quick question?
Can you answer this? How to install Eclipse J2EE IDE from a tarball? http://askubuntu.com/questions/27476/how-to-install-eclipse-j2ee-ide-from-a-tarball?atw=1 #java

Night all.
Hello all
what's up?
Summer Vacation started!
congrats!
prep yourself towards Ubuntu membership! :P
Today is for rest
Tommorrow I shall begin
07:07
How long is your vacation?
Hey!
@jokerdino 2 months or less
I see. Ample of time then.

A: Passwords in the Password/Encryption Keys program

jokerdinoThis is actually a security bug with Seahorse, the tool that manages passwords. A bug report has already been filed both in Launchpad and GNOME bug tracker regarding this bug. You can also read up on the Ubuntu forums thread that was discussing this exact issue with Seahorse. How do I subscribe...

I guess I answered it right. I feel something might be missing.
I have a davicom dm9601 usb ethernet card.

When i plug in the device, it is detected and drivers are
loaded, but i can't connect to internet using it.

The device fails to get an ip address.

It works perfectly on XP
i followed this link ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=869618 but driver r not getting compile . any help if this would not work then i am not able to use my internet
i also asked this on askubuntu link askubuntu.com/questions/116615/…
help will be very thanksful
How are you connected to Internet now?
i am conneted through wifi
Ah, I see.
It was working right earlier, I suppose?
jokerdino thanks for answering askubuntu.com/questions/98446/…
no i make u understand
07:43
You are welcome.
You had any kernel updates recently?
@Gaurav_Java Are you fine with the answer? (Regarding seahorse)
when first time i plug that usb it is detected but not enabled .. when i connect my internet from other system after that my ubuntu shows me wired connection is connected
ya i am fine with ur answer
but when i restart my system then same problem come
i have driver but don't able to compile that
i can send u the link 2 driver
I see.
I don't exactly know how to proceed.
You might want to wait a while and see if anyone else responds for your question on the site.
can u tell me how do i compile this driver . see last post of this link ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=869618
07:52
what problem do you have?
i don't know how exactly compile that may be that work
unfortunately, i don't have much experience with compiling drivers myself.
i will get back to your question if i can find someone who can answer your question.
Good Morning
Good day.

@jokerdino askubuntu.com/questions/12182/… downvote and move on, if you see more give another whistle to to mods ;)
The link provided doesn't even have a Ubuntu product.. what's wrong in deleting it?
Nothing, but down voting is more effective imo, there are a lot of this does not help answers in the site, this is just one of them. A few more from this guy and he gets his account suspended instead for low quality posts.
I should have flagged it as spam.
yep, that is always an option, but please also down vote it, the system will auto trigger an action on those giving us more reasons to close and investigate the user.
I didn't bother to downvote it because I saw it as answer that is going to be deleted anyway.
09:43
mhhm, you know I love down votes ;)

both flags are great btw. I have down voted both posts and left them open for other mods to have a look, one or 2 more of these from him and we act on his account.
account > posts, down votes gives us reasons to act on the account instead of the posts.
I am hoping you people eventually delete the answers so I get the -2 rep back. :)
hell yeah ;)
Well, you don't have to be too generous with your upvotes.

@Oli I understand, but I have been getting some rep up on my old questions by someone (on the last 20 mins), (dont know who, really). I appreciate it but if its getting me in to trouble just remove the rep or lock my account or what ever :(
That was me, last time.
