@Hizqeel You could write that you're a magician ... finding a cat being 11 km away from home for several days is "some kind of magic" - isn't it ? :D

@cl-netbox I think Cat used some dark magic to get 11 Km away from me :p :p mmm Might be :p :D
@cl-netbox soo are you watching PL ? Who will win? Liverpool or Hull?

@Hizqeel The Reds are a "wonderbox", ask @edwinksl (he'll sing a song of this) ... so who knows ? ... me not ! :D

this is atrocious

4:17 PM
@Hizqeel once you use the magic word DARK, our MOST EVIL MOD @ThomasWard jumps in ... you indeed are a magician Hizqeel ! :D :D :D
5

so far Hull taking the lead :)

@Hizqeel what did I say ? :D

@cl-netbox The only downside to the appearance...

@cl-netbox hahahahahaha :D :D

is it brings Chaos with me

4:18 PM
@cl-netbox What did you say? :P :P

@Hizqeel WONDERBOX ... because normally the Reds should beat Hull by 10 to 0 - right @edwinksl ? :D

Woot

@cl-netbox ohhhhh :P But reds are not beating right now rather got beaten so far by 1-0

@ThomasWard I like that ... so welcome to the (AU) CHAOS DOME ! :D
@jokerdino What about City ? :)
@jokerdino Will they beat Swansea tomorrow ? :)

Shouldn't we burninate ? askubuntu.com/questions/879810/… have I missed a meta post?

4:31 PM
@Zanna meta.

@ThomasWard sir yes sir

@Zanna Good afternoon Zanna ! :)

@Zanna Hi , How are you doing? :)

sup?

@edwinksl @Hizqeel Hull leads by 2 : 0 ! :D

4:47 PM
@cl-netbox fingers crossed

@cl-netbox Reds are on vacation today or playing a practice match :P :D maybe...!

@cl-netbox you don't have to tag me for score updates, thanks

@jokerdino Yeah, when they stay cool it shouldn't be a problem to win - right ? :)

I will just be in the hiding.

Has anyone encountered problems with Clementine not playing m4a lately?
I see to have all the libraries, yet Clementine complains that some gstreamer plugins are missing
It worked just yesterday

Q: Can we burninate [hardware-recommendations], and maybe get a close reason for it too?

ZannaThe help center says: Questions that you should avoid: Linux Mint, Elementary OS, Backtrack, Gnome-Remix (prior to 13.04), budgie-remix (16.04 and 16.10) and other Linux distributions (try our friends at Unix & Linux Stack Exchange). Bug reports (How do I submit a bug?). Issues wi...

@AskUbuntuMeta not enough close reasons
we have a limit

@Zanna I posted an answer on that bounty where no answer is possible because I like a challenge :p -- askubuntu.com/questions/846125/…
^^^ If there was no bounty would the question have been closed long ago?

I'm all for burninating it, but I think the "primarily opinion based" close reason might serve for this sort of thing. — terdon ♦ 11 mins ago

@cl-netbox hi sorry I'm out and about, was on the tube
@Hizqeel good thanks! :) how about you?
@WinEunuuchs2Unix yes! It's unanswerable!

@Zanna I am fine :)

5:20 PM
@terdon yeah agreed, sorr, I got overzealous with that suggestion. I've stricken it
@jokerdino oops

:)

@AskUbuntuMeta Can probably be pointed to Hardware Recommendations

@jokerdino Heh, the auto expand site names are a pain to get right, aren't they :)

Yeah :/

@jokerdino how do you mean? How would that be done?

5:28 PM
"Please move your bag to Hardwarerec.SE"

@jokerdino oh I see, in the usual way

@Zanna I think it is a reasonable question for meta?

@terdon I'm hopeless at those!
@jokerdino me too... deleted because of rejected migration... I couldn't really understand what happened from the revision history, but I am tired and on mobile and lazy

Undeleted it for now.
Will think of doing something later.

I saw some magic had been done
:)

6:29 PM
I bring CHAOS

I bring naps...

enters room, puts force field around @ThomasWard
Hello!
I've successfully neutralized the chaos

@MarkYisri the infinitely powerful Chaos breaks through the force field, as Darkness spreads to fill the room, and bathe everything in eternal blackness

turns on flashlight

Eew, light!
steals batteries

6:35 PM
I don't think you understand how force fields work...they protect the people inside the field, not the people outside...

puts more batteries in flashlight, puts force field on himself
@TheXed Oh. Oops!
Force field now blocking @Byte from getting batteries

we are all screwed now...

What kind of force field?

@Byte A force field that prevents anyone from getting in or out.

@MarkYisri doesn't protect against chaos, darkness, and energy-beings

6:39 PM
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
:D

6 messages moved to Trashcan
but I digress

@terdon thanks for doing the discussion here askubuntu.com/a/878950/72216. I must say, I wouldn't have much faith in an "experienced" python programmer who would have difficulties in reading the code. I am not good at handling discussions like that :\. Sebastian showed is admiration for conventional thinking before though.

Yeah, it's useful of course, but there's no call to just follow it blindly.

^ this
It's the same discussion as in music; it's not theory what should decide what your ears should like, but theory should be based on what you hear. @terdon

Woah... the tag got burned

Fire in the house

Oh no I just mistyped hahaha
Such a noob

@JacobVlijm Starred! Wise words...

@Fabby thanks! I got the feeling you would agree :)

@Zanna what tag?

7:07 PM
The -burning- tag?

@jacob yes but i cant see that tag because it has flames on it

@JacobVlijm My code is better then your code! I always say: the code that does the job and is maintainable is the good one! There is no "better code" only "better algorithms" ...

@MarkYisri Lol

>:-)
@JacobVlijm (there is something like "bad code" but that is another story and N/A to your code... :D :D :D )

@Fabby My idea! Some things can be discussed, but when confronted with this culture of thinking, I am stumped. Really.
Then I want to say too many things, but I am too impatient to actually tell them.

7:13 PM
young kids that sound worse than old people
@JacobVlijm :D :D :D

Anyone knows if there is a PPA for visual studio code? having to redownload the deb on every update is painful.

@Avery I don't know the VS application but can't DKMS automatically recompile the code with each kernel update?

I think @Avery means visual studio update.

7:28 PM

@Avery the first hit for "visual studio code ubuntu ppa" was an omgubuntu article that also had a ppa.

(I'm lazy)

I wonder if it's been snapped yet.

Dunno if it still works for the lates Ubuntu versions but you may as well check it out.

also that's not the ppa
that seems like a wrapper that can be used to compile
(I was searching on duckduckgo and it also showed the omgubuntu article, but g!ing gave me that repo)

7:31 PM
@Avery having it on my system. I don' t see the charm...

vscode?

Ah, ok

It's really, really good if you are writing golang or uuh
nativescript
or .net core
other than those three, I prefer sublime text. Or good ol' vim.

? How did my text end up above your message?

if you pressed up (the keyboard button), that might've caused that

7:35 PM
Anyone know how to use ssh?

Yes, what are you trying to ssh in to?

A raspberry pi

ah, you need to first run raspi-config on the raspberry pi, go to advanced, go to ssh and enable it

I know, it is from the ubuntu side I'm having trouble.

after that, you can type ssh pi@your.raspis.ip.address to terminal (if you're on a linux distro) and type your password to ssh into it

7:38 PM
One sec I need to answer a question.
@Avery Yes, I tried but I got an error message.

@UbuntuUser what did you get?

@Avery One sec, I need to boot up my pi
@Avery now it works... sorry!

No worries, happy to help :)
Don't forget to change the password for the user pi.

What do you mean?
I got in! Thanks!

If you keep the pi user with same password (raspberry), it has a risk of being hacked. Run passwd on raspberry pi and change the password if you want your pi to be more secure.

7:50 PM
OK! I did since I forgot it!
This is an onion root cell in metaphase! @cl-netbox

Hullo again.
Guess what? My account seems back to normal.

@gracious1 I don't think we met... online I mean

@UbuntuUser Hi.
I followed a suggestion that someone left as a comment.
But then I did some other things to.

@gracious1 Hi, I see... well that is good!

They made it as a comment instead of an answer, so now I am not sure what to do. Of course I did other things besides.
I am talking about the question I posted recently.
I guess maybe I could write my own answer and accept it?

7:53 PM
Oh, upvote the question and tell them to put it as an answer.
@gracious1 or do that! XD

I did tell them that.
But they apparently aren't going to.

I don't think it is.

Oh, I don't know what to do... It would fix it since that is what I did.... Any tips?
*I not it

Oh wait. He did make that an answer!
Okay, I gotta go accept it, and also follow up with what I did, because it didn't quite fix it by itself.

7:59 PM

@Rinzwind Hi

What is considered "Well received"? @Rinzwind

eh.

Tell me if my response is appropriate as a comment, or if it's too much.

context?

8:01 PM
@gracious1 Where?
@Rinzwind for questions and answers in ask ubuntu

Hey @Rinzwind

did 11 hours of tales of berseria today :X

@JacobVlijm Where you listening the whole time?

Q: How do I restore Unity configuration (and other problems) after hard reboot?

gracious1I'm running Ubuntu 14.04. It locked up on me, and I did a hard reboot. (I had to reboot by physically holding down the power button.) What happens now, is my wallpaper, my icons in the Launcher, my theme -- it is all gone. I am also missing stuff in my Launcher that was there, and there are ico...

Look for my comment to the second answer.

I am ALWAYS listening

8:02 PM
I am about to accept it as the answer, I guess, although apparently there was more to it.

@gracious1 Good! Now I can safely delete mine then!

@Fabby actually someone posted a near-solution to the problem, and so I ended up accepting that answer. But I want to thank you very much for great deal of help that you gave me yesterday.
No, don't delete it
!I would love to be able to refer to it in the future!!!!

@gracious1 Hmm.... I don't know since I'm not that advanced. But did it help? Choose the best answer for your problem if it fixed it.

Please don't delete it

@gracious1 upvoted accepted answer!
@gracious1 :D
OK, OK... Not deleted...

8:05 PM
It came the closest to fixing it, although it didn't actually solve it until I did updates and powered down. Very strange.

@gracious1 You should have logged off and back on...
Let me edit that

Could you guys review this please? I think that I'm near losing the ability to answer... askubuntu.com/questions/879875/…
@JacobVlijm Also that sound creepy

@UbuntuUser reviewing

@Fabby Thanks!

@UbuntuUser editing! No one else change, please!

8:08 PM
@Fabby OK.
@Fabby I'll accept your edit.

@Fabby, what had he said instead of "log off and log back on" ???
Does logging off and logging back on affect it differently from rebooting? Or from shutting down (powering off)?
Because it worked, but only after I did software updates with apt-get and then powered down.

@gracious1 I might be able to help... where?

@UbuntuUser You don't have to! I'm a reviewer! :D :D :D

@UbuntuUser Do you mean with my question? Scroll back up in this chat and you will see it.

@UbuntuUser upgoated as now it's a good answer!!! :D ;-)
(after my edit)

8:12 PM
Oh, never mind @gracious1 I didn't know what question

@gracious1 20 seconds

@Fabby Thanks!!!

20 seconds to what? @Fabby

How do you make the buttons @Fabby ?

@gracious1 relogin

8:13 PM
@Fabby what?

@gracious1 20 seconds for me to reply to your question! :P

I think I lost the thread of this conversation

@UbuntuUser YW
@UbuntuUser edit your answer and look

@Fabby K!

@gracious1 What what??? :P ;-)

8:15 PM
@Fabby Does logging off and logging back on affect it differently from rebooting? Or differently from shutting down (powering off)?
Because it worked, but only after I did software updates with apt-get and then powered down.

Bye guys, see you!

Bye @UbuntuUser ! Nice meeting you.

@UbuntuUser @gracious1 Don't just @ me! Please reply to a post by clicking on the little arrow and post a reply. Try now...
@gracious1 It depends.
if it's user profile related: log off and on
if it's system-related: reboot
if it's driver related, power down, remove all power including battery, power on, add cables and batteries, power on again!

Well, here is what I know. I changed the file to user.old. Then I believe I rebooted.
When it still didn't work, I gave up.
Then I went ahead and used apt-get to make software updates, because I was procrastingation on transferring files to the new account.
Then I shut down cuz I was tired.

@gracious1 I find that hard to believe, but I refrain from commenting as I wasn't there...

8:18 PM
When I booted up again later, suddenly it was all working again.
But my old configuration was gone. I've had to go to Software Center to find some of things I installed and didn't know the command for.

@gracious1 yup, that is the same as powering down, removing power cables, powering on without any power cables to remove any last electrons, add power cables and then really power up

LOL

@gracious1 Not a laughing matter! ;-)

What do you find hard to believe? That I gave up? That I was procrastinating? That I was tired? What?

I actually have an answer out there telling a user to do hust that!

8:20 PM
I still need to go back to Software Center and restore the icons or at least memorize what command will run them.

Look at my message:
It has a small arrow before it. hover with your mouse pointer over it.

I see the arrow.
I ciicked on the arrow. Did this help?

the line I responded to should turn yellow
Not the triangle: the arrow. :-)
Smoke! BRB!

You find it hard to believe that I rebooted? Or is that joke. I'm already tired today. When I went shopping I had to fight pre-superbowl traffic. On top of that, the state troopers closed nearly all the roads back to my house because of some gigantic turbine thing that is being transported across state lines. I had to take country roads back home. It was scary.
Ok. I need to take a break AFK

@gracious1 You're American, a teen and a girl is my conclusion...
AFK BB in 5

8:25 PM
I am an American and a woman, but not a teenager.
You are European and a male over 21?

Hey guys, I'm back.... I'm trying to make an AI with people I met over the internet. We're only have a Khan Academy server hosting it for us, so we can't make it a real AI. But we are trying to get a raspberry pi webserver.
Oh! Guess what I am!

@UbuntuUser Female, American, over 21
Okay, I really need to take a break now. AFK BBL

Nope! Male Canadian over 21!

@UbuntuUser It's just that I'm stressed out, scroll back and see why. Okay, nice to meet you neighbor to the North. AFK

@gracious1 OK!
@gracious1 My condolences.... well see you later!

8:35 PM
Converting .vmdk to .qcow2... hoping for the best...

8:48 PM
@gracious1 Male, Ukrainian but U.S. citizen (although I probably was Chinese/East Asian in my past life), and 27, but I do feel 17 sometimes :D . . .or 12 . . . depends on the context

My goodness... the .qcow2 is larger than the .vmdk by a factor of two and it's still running...
I hope qemu knows what it's doing...

@gracious1 I'm a Vorlon: an a-sexual energetic being and one of the first races and pre-date the human race...
(IOW: I'm an old fart)

o.O

Bye!

9:05 PM
@Hizqeel You're confused all of the time anyway, so don't act like it! ;-)

@Fabby How can you say that?

For Walmart, though?

@Hizqeel How??? Easy: read your profile, type You're confused all of the time anyway, so don't act like it! **;-)**

@Fabby Well..... ;)

9:10 PM
:-)
@NathanOsman Nowadays with bloggers getting paid to write positive reviews, I err on the extreme side of caution... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yup.
Just seemed a bit unusual.
Is this a good drive? bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/…
I have $55 worth of gift cards there so the price is more like $100.

@NathanOsman crap
My methodology:
Google "Samsung 850 EVO"

Google "Samsung 850 EVO problems"
look at both search result numbers.

@NathanOsman Samsung is a reputable SSD manufacturer.

9:22 PM
@Seth starred!
@Serg downvote?

@Fabby no
answer is useful as alternative
and definitely is a proper attempt at answering.

@Fabby It was the 840 that had all the problems.
So I'm betting a lot of the search results are for that.

I need to find a way to gather energy in the morning. When i have while day to work on stuff, i usually feel energy-less for half the day, then better in afternoon

@Serg I recommend injections of caffeine :P
2
Drinking coffee doesn't get it into your bloodstream fast enough :P
2

@NathanOsman Good catch!
@NathanOsman Both starred!!!

9:35 PM
Caffeine addiction, here i come,lol

@Serg You should star the second one too!

Wow.
The 840 was the most reliable drive in this test: techreport.com/review/27909/…
Why the heck are TR6 screwdrivers so expensive and hard to find?

@NathanOsman reading
@NathanOsman They are??? Wrong shop, then! (Can't recommend it to you as they're 15000Km away from you and don't deliver. Whenever I need hardware (from screw drivers over CAT6, converters, batteries that are not made any more to Geiger counters, that's where I go...
@NathanOsman read it before: these guys are great: hammer'em till they die!!!
good night!
movie and done for today

9:57 PM
can they calm down with the new standards?
it's like you just finally get your home wired with CAT5e and CAT6 is out
and now CAT7

Trying to catch up with technology is impossible task, so . . . just get close enough and it's good

I only have 1 cat

I have 2
2CAT

I have CAT5.

nubcakery

10:03 PM
My CAT is out, in the rain.

you let that cat in

(CAT1)

@JacobVlijm is it raining in the netherlands too?

@Seth yeah, a slow, but constant rain..

fast constant here :D
I love rain.

10:05 PM
When I am in, I do!

hmm
Tab S3 is probably gonna have an S-Pen...
and I just got the S2

man, there's a point when disk usage develops some inertia to being completely full
doesn't matter how much stuff I delete on my VM, it always get back at having low space on disk in apparently less time then before :p

10:50 PM
@IanC Sounds like you may have the foundation for an AU question you answer yourself :)
