@Zanna It's ok when you reach a level of trust with someone, trying to find a new barber/hairdresser is just horrid though. I've had a few friends take up hairdressing and invite me to their salon, but I always think that would feel weird! It's an odd reaction as I'm fine with dentists/doctors/tattooists etc.

@Arronical whereas I'm freaked out by dentists and doctors...

I don't visiting like any of them...

@ByteCommander I don't try to do it any more than is necessary, it is odd to hink that some people are compelled to do it when there's nothing wrong with them.

sure.

@Zanna I think I'm reassured by them having professional training, doesn't even bother me when they don't have a terribly friendly manner. I do have a great dentist though, puts my fiancée at ease even when she's on the edge of a panic attack.

@Edity It's gone!

@Rinzwind should I leave answer? Delete it?
I'm confused.

I doubt a 700 GHz CPU would be physically possible at all...

@ByteCommander Why?
I'm pretty sure I used to have one, but I might be remembering wrong.

Terdon
i'm confused now

Eek! GHz, never mind.

Well, what's the verdict?
Keep or delete?

@Edity What in the world makes you think Ubuntu requires a 700GHz CPU? Perhaps you meant MHz?

12:44 PM
Boom, deleted

Q: Body weight readjustment (post-(exercise fat burn))

Jack MaddingtonA friend of mine told me you burn fat on one area of the body, and then the body weight readjusts itself so as to maintain the same proportions within a week or ten days or so of you quitting the exercise routine. However, someone on this Stack Exchange group mentioned that this is false? Is the...

@Rinzwind It's cool you wrote the answer up. :) Last night I couldn't even think with my work and being exhausted. Good job on the answer! :)

thanks :) could have been your 4 upvotes ;-)

Yeah, it's fine. At least I know I was part of the answer. :)
I'll get above 10k at some point in the future. ;)

Yesterday i was watching Mark Shuttleworth's talk about Unity on DebConf 2010. It actually makes a lot of sense why Unity has developed into this type of interface.

1:56 PM
@SmokeDetector haha that's ASCII Op-Art!

@Serg Do you have the link to that? It probably won't convince me of liking it, because each to their own, but I am still interested. :)

heh @Terrance I'm also not a fan, but also interested

I tried looking for it, but it won't come up, if it is the right page. It was trying to connect to blip.tv, which I think my router adblocking blocks it.
Nope, it doesn't block that site. Whew! I just can't connect to that one for some reason.

@edwinksl edit war

@Zanna oh no! cristina's edit got rejected because of the war
now i owe her 2 rep

2:03 PM
oops, my bad

@Zanna fine. thanks for asking. on mobile. and is busy :

@CristianaNicolae oops your edit got rejected because zanna and i were also editing the same post. sorry about that

I think you can't ping her because she hasn't been here
you need mod powers to superping

yeah i was trying my luck
her name was in the list for tab completion though, so i thought i may as well try

it isn't for me!

2:06 PM
plz add me to sudoers

haha
sudo visudo
edwinksl ALL=(ALL) ALL

@edwinksl if tab completion works, you can ping.

@ByteCommander why can't I find her in tab completion?
@edwinksl must be a sudoer already

@ CristianaNicolae
@Zanna Did you misspell her? ("Christiana" maybe)

@ByteCommander there is a weird space between @ and C

2:15 PM
It is because I did not want to ping her for nothing.

oh, lol, ok

@ByteCommander nope

odd

but now I can so VTC no-repro, I am crazy!
oops horribly late for work...
later......

@Zanna Take care! :)

Q: How can I install a GUI in Ubuntu 16.04 server edition?

linuxlearnerFirst I'm gonna say that I'm quite new to Linux and I wanna do this for learning purposes. @Terrance :) xx I just moved to mobile haha

don't forget to get off at your stop

Omg!

2:52 PM
Weird, I just got an accept when someone else's answer had more upvotes
I did miss my usual stop, but I have to change buses and fortunately there are a few stops overlapping... and for the second one my stop is the last, so it's almost idiot Zanna-proof

lol
I almost miss my stop every morning
Cause I chat on the train
But the train stops for a bit longer on that stop ;p

Haha that's lucky

@JourneymanGeek huh, who do you chat with on the mrt

@edwinksl I'm on SE chat on the way to work

I walk to outram, take a train to chinatown, switch to the new downtown line to bayfront.

I once accidentally met Brian Cox because I was unknowingly tutoring his stepson, and I was so embarrassingly starstruck that I missed my stop three times on the way home...

@JourneymanGeek lol. by train stopping a bit longer, sounds like you are getting off raffles place or city hall

I donno

maybe jurong east too

the NEL stops for like 2-3 minutes at chinatown
I donno why
its an interchange but its wierd
You like walk to the end of the line, and DTL platforms are 'stacked'

i see you are a NEL person

3:08 PM
Hey, slightly on-topic...
Didn't the live USB copy everything to RAM?
When was this feature changed/removed? I just tried running from RAM and everything broke.

@KazWolfe apparently yeah, you can take it out and everything still works, I was told
Oh

@Zanna so you must know roger penrose. i have a picture with him (and my friend)

@Zanna Just tried running headless, and I/O errors everywhere.

@edwinksl that's awesome!
@KazWolfe remind me not to try that then...

@KazWolfenot any more
livedisks use the liveusb 'read only' and unionfs atop that, so the changes are on ram
there's usually an explicit -toram stanza for grub

3:13 PM
yeah, i could launch firefox headless...
but i launched it before so.
i'll be asking a site question then, because free rep

@jokerdino I have written nearly as many posts as you now, but you have more than twice as many points, therefore your posts must be more than twice as good!
@KazWolfe I feel it is a good day for asking questions...

@Zanna that's not how that works
I have a lot of deleted posts..
Actual count: 26Q and 317A

But still, Oli has like 3000 answers
I have deleted loads too
I am sooo late

Sorry

Haha it was in no way your fault

3:20 PM
@Zanna Also, your votes are a distribution
I have answers ranging from 167upvotes to 2 downvotes on SU

/me haz 140 Q and and 580 A

Wow 140 Q

@JourneymanGeek 2 downvotes? let me downvote it :p

40 Q / 271 A
yay i'm a bad user :D

Yeah, I wonder what I asked all that times...

3:25 PM
118 questions on SU

Probably 50% or so is unanswered...

its apples and oranges....
@ByteCommander tho, that might be a sign its harder problems

"user:367990 is:q answers:0" returns 40 unanswered questions only...
So that's only ~29%
BBL

I only managed to think of 14 questions

Q: Can I boot a Live USB fully to RAM?

Kaz WolfeI have a live USB made with the standard Ubuntu disk image creator for 16.04 LTS. In the current state, I can boot to this disk, but it still requires the original USB to run properly at all times. Attempting to pull the drive and use the system generates a large amount of I/O errors, further su...

@Serg your spelling gets more creative as amount of sleep decreases

@edwinksl actually i just got out of class, so i needed to derp
and i slept quite good yesterday
but no homework done because of that

Where is the mobile Stack Exchange chat client? I know I had it before, but for the life of me I cannot remember where I got it from.
@KazWolfe To your question, I have done it before with the toram parameter and it works. I have had to do it for work since we need to pull the USB for scrubbing so that we don't accidentally scrub the USB when we don't need to. :)

should be in play store
i just use browser version
i switch between too many tabs anyway

4:11 PM
@Serg Thanks! I'll look again. :)
@Serg Do you remember what it is called?

no, unfortunately

hi all!

@onebree Hello! :)

Q - What is a good platform for writing (technical) blog entries these days? I am familiar with Medium, and have heard of Wordpress as well.

user136984
4:46 PM
@onebree: They literally find a zero-day exploit in WordPress every day. I think it's probably the most well-known insecure website making software.

4:56 PM
@onebree not wordpress :P
it is even more buggy than phpBB ever was
google made blogger. that might be something

5:10 PM
Hi all :D

hi

:)
Finally , Reinstalled Arch Linux, without GNOME, only xmonad Window Manager :D
but I need some help, could anyone identify which (set of) fonts i am missing ? (screenshot V)
any thoughts ?

Try these:
yaourt -S ttf-ms-fonts
sudo pacman -S noto-fonts noto-fonts-cjk  noto-fonts-emoji
sudo pacman -S ttf-dejavu ttf-symbola ttf-ubuntu-font-family ttf-freefont opendesktop-fonts

Wohh ..!!!!

@SeverusTux that's what I see when I run history | grep fonts anyway. Although I'm pretty sure I didn't need to install any for U&L

5:15 PM

Those are the extra ones I want (the noto* is for full unicode etc)
Damn!
OK, no fixed width for you:
yaourt -S ttf-ms-fonts
sudo pacman -S noto-fonts noto-fonts-cjk noto-fonts-emoji
sudo pacman -S ttf-dejavu ttf-symbola ttf-ubuntu-font-family ttf-freefont opendesktop-fonts
Better?

yup :D

I would guess it's a locale issue though. I didn't have to do any of this for basic latin fonts, anyway

My fonts were a bit funky in Arch before I installed plasma, but you have a serious case there!

:32557637 o.O

5:19 PM
that was quick

ooo

LOL!

i didn't get to see what it was

It was a someone whose name was Animelover but hated Anime that destroyed their Ramen noodles
Something like that

That was the best part anyway...

5:20 PM
do not star this comment.

Ok :)

lmao

extreme

that's my only motivation to reach 10k tbh

5:21 PM
To star something means I have to move my mouse to the right and I am not in the mood. :P

to read things like that

nice
i will just bookmark that page

5:25 PM
and @edwinksl
@KazWolfe why spam it?

tbh all these are pretty tame compared to what i have seen in some MOBAs

@edwinksl you are heading that way fast today...

@Windows3.1 different searches

@Zanna just lucky...

5:27 PM
@KazWolfe see if you can find where the flag in this one came from metasmoke.erwaysoftware.com/post/31404 lol

Most of those are just troll posts anyways to try to get reactions out of people in my opinion.

@Windows3.1 yeah i see why. it was rejected as invalid

funny one :P

@ParanoidPanda and @Rinzwind thank you for the advice. I think I am going to go with Medium for now.

No worries, tomorrow is fine too ;)

@ByteCommander Nice answer! :)

@terdon Thank you very much :D

@edwinksl 200 reached today?

5:37 PM
@Rinzwind yeah :(

good :)
17 on 1 answer aint bad :D

I want 200

@Rinzwind quoting man page is the way to go

sure is D:

A bit of luck goes a long way on SE.

5:39 PM
I need 25 more for 200.

man page quotes are easy 10 upvotes
@ByteCommander I bet that is not true :=)

10 now
E.g. if @KazWolfe could accept the toram answer...

170 more for me! Yay!! I'm getting closer. :D

@ByteCommander I need to try it first.

@edwinksl hey it's always a bit of that, but well deserved...

5:41 PM
But no hurries, we have another 6 hours of UTC day...

@Terrance ha! had you answered the edubuntu q you'd be on 210 >:)

@Rinzwind LOL Rub it in. :( j/k

>:-D
rub rub rub

@KazWolfe Sure. I just tried it in a VM as well while making the screenshots, it should work.

I can't just accept answers. I have a duty to SE to check
Because I'm trying to be a model user :D

5:44 PM
woah
someone getting ready for next mod election?

no >:)

@Rinzwind LOL! I almost shot soda out my nose. ;)

Chat doesnt count btw ;)

:D

I think I can hold out for another 2 years.

5:46 PM
@jokerdino you gonna be mod 4 lyfe, too bad

@edwinksl and not exactly. I'm trying to be a better user in general :P
I'll try for mod if a current mod or high-rep user (over 40k) says I should.

tough luck then

So, I got a first email about tutoring C
How much should I be charging for my tutoring ?

50 USD for one sitting.

O_O
That might be a bit expensive and scare people off

5:48 PM
i am curious what the market rate for c tutoring is

I'm thinking about 10 - 15 $ per session

How about 2.50 USD then?

Per hour probably will be difficult to calculate and time
@Terrance here's that talk I mentioned :youtube.com/watch?v=0la37TaQs-o

@Serg Thank you very much! :D

For anyone else interested, that's Mark Shuttleworth's panel about Unity from debconf 2010

5:50 PM
@Serg @jokerdino is right.

@Serg you got a nice beard there
@Zanna o.O

@jokerdino I . . .wasn't there :)
Never attended any debconf

I already upvoted you for the day @Zanna.

@jokerdino then, so be it.

@KazWolfe ah, you are not reading it right.

5:52 PM
@Serg $20 / hr, rounded up to the nearest quarter-hour.
@jokerdino then put it in more kaz-friendly terms?
sarcasm/hidden meaning is hard online, okay?

@Serg beard was nice

@KazWolfe I don't want to be calculating and rounding stuff. Is 15$ per session alright ?

@KazWolfe Frankly, it is too soon to talk about any election.

@Serg i'd say it's cheap but meh.
@jokerdino Also true. We seem to be okay right now. Seth is pretty good at nuking flags

Need to wait at the minimum another 9 months and maybe more.

5:55 PM
And not kicking me from chat :D

@KazWolfe so what's reasonable ? I can only dedicate 2 hours at max there

@Serg I'd say $20-30

back 2morrow :-)

Alright . . .

but really, $5/15 minutes, rounded up to the nearest $5 increment isn't bad.

5:56 PM
@jokerdino eh? What?

@Zanna I already upvoted you today.

@Serg are you talking about one to one?

@Zanna yes

@jokerdino that is very nice of you & thanks! But why did you mention it there?

Oh, you said I was right and I have nothing to give back in return anymore.
I am bad with jokes :(
