@ByteCommander i am used to python 2 print. it'll justbtake me time to git used to it

print() is so much more flexible though.
You can e.g. pretty-print a list with 1 element per line using:
print(*my_list, sep="\n")
In python2 that would have been
print "\n".join(my_list)
Okay, it's not really much more complicated, but it looks less pretty.
:p

better to join than to separate, always, it is
ps @Rinzwind (I know you left) here is proof of me even solving mysteries with journalctl askubuntu.com/a/795421/527764 (but for sure I do have a lot to learn about this and innumerable other things ^_^ )

@ByteCommander how would you feel if tomorrow java said : "OK , System.out.println()" will act different that all other version before. Of course it pisses off devs , because your python2 code won't work with python3, and whatever string returned now has to have .decode() . You have to rewrite code, make it compatible, blah blah blah. Sure, python3 has many awesome functions and features, i like that. But it breaks lots of stuff. Now if you think about enterprise level software, that costs
and costs a lot

@edwinksl that's amazing! hahaha

8:15 PM
python 3 has been around for a long time, i would say there has been ample time and warning to migrate
if you are still writing your new scripts in python 2, i strongly recommend python 3 instead

"after a few minutes another animal comes up" Lol

i should get some animals on my screen

Well , OK , i guess from now on I will write everything in python 3

python 2 is EOL soon anyway

8:21 PM
Also . . . I think I made some one very very upset :X

which girl this time? xD

@edwinksl not a girl, a guy . . . .

its a boy this time
Lol

well , anyway . . . youtube break

Serg your taste is changing

8:23 PM
Noooo, it's not like that . . . .totally not about relationships . . . .

@edwinksl agree to this!

@StefanoPalazzo I still don't quite understand it : does reputation come back next day after i hit 200 rep , or does it just go poof and disappear ?

Poof, definitely poof

Aaaaw, censored lyrics
Nope . . .
I just got +10
my rep changed

it's because you got an accept
accepts don't count towards the cap

8:28 PM
@Serg 200 excluded bounties and accepts

@Zanna so if somebody upvotes my accepted answer , it still gets points ?
Accepts are +15

@Zanna :D

I just got +10
And it still changed

yes, you got an accept earlier, so you can get up to 215
or 230 if you got 2 accepts

me on 230 >:)

8:29 PM
I'm 225 now

you have 3 accepts for today though

or 245 if you got 3...

O_O mama mia, yay

700 with bounties :=)

Or 260 if you got 4

8:30 PM
first-world problem, complaining about too much rep eh

lol shall we continue the count?

\ o/ THis is awesome !!!

I wonder what the highest daily rep is for anyone on AU :P

someone write a SE data explorer query

@edwinksl rep is all that matters in da hood >:D

8:31 PM
i would start with checking your rep history rinzy

oh I got a 700+ at one day
500 bounty with 200+ rep

that must be the record

@NathanOsman I think you can answer this with OBS software askubuntu.com/q/803022/295286

hah thanks for the upvote ;)

It fist OP's requirements

8:33 PM
a dude on SO has a 1550
73
A: What's the most reputation that anyone has earned on a single day?

MysticialAs of today, that record belongs to David Robinson who earned 1550 rep on July 6th, 2013. The full list can be found with this query.

wow

3 bounties, holly heck

And they still say so is unfriendly :)

that only increases your rep by 1%

We have an SE site about LEGO bricks? o.O

8:34 PM
@Serg awarded by community so those ppl are not that friendky
MORE AMAZING
1035 with NO bounties

@Rinzwind @Serg?

vlijmy?

(About being unfriendly, was it at me or at serg?)

@Rinzwind there is a link , switch sites
@JacobVlijm he's talking about StackOverflow

8:37 PM
yeah I know. trying it now

that's community is not as friendly as ours

935 , by izx

You simply enter askubuntu in the correct field

AU data

8:39 PM
@ByteCommander I know. cant find the fieldname :\
wow that was in 2011? :X

@Rinzwind Above the results table, it says "Switch sites:"

And I am on 579th place
   579	"2015-06-11 00:00:00","295286","210","45","0","245"
   991	"2015-07-31 00:00:00","295286","190","30","0","220"

how many entries for izx in that table??!

@Zanna 103
He scores a lot
103 entries

film reference: woah.

8:42 PM
I get to 550. Disappointing, really disappointing.

My record is 245 twice.

@JacobVlijm not bad :) lots of AU users don't have that

And only 22 points today.

noob!

8:43 PM
you still get 2's? >:-D

Keep on trying, Byte
You can do et

He, and a 290...

be a rabbit!
rabbits keep going >:)

@Rinzwind That was from accepting @Serg's powerflow indicator answer.

Speaking of which, I should edit that
And answer on Zanna's question

8:44 PM
There's a problem though - order the list by accepts and at the top is Masi on 21st June

I gotta do lotta editing today /o\

but all their accepts on that day seem to be of their own answers

132 points away from reaching 20k again (for the second time).

so scored nothing... but the query still counts the score

I could do it tomorrow or even today, but I have a feeling that neither of those is going to happen.
Ask great questions again, people!

8:46 PM
@Zanna self accept actually gives you +2 i think . . . And speaking of Masi, he was mentioned in one Meta question, because of that fishy activity

nope, no points at all for self accept

We have to learn to accept ourselves.
3

true this is ^_^

@CodeX I finally post it in Askubuntu askubuntu.com/questions/806251/…

@AsmeJust I upvoted your post partly for the graphics and partly for using the word "chiral"

8:50 PM
@AsmeJust Cool I upvoted too

@Rinzwind so that query scripts are all SQL aren't they ?

yes

hmmm, very interesting . . .

all the blue words are SQL. most of the grey are fieldnames

@Zanna Thanks ... It was hard to explain the problem so I thought images could help for a better understanding
@CodeX Thanks :)

8:52 PM
definitely. Excellent explanatory images

@Zanna Why you upvoted for the image? just asking. :)

@ByteCommander by the way, we're top 2 in rep this month

Because the question is clear and looks good because of that

so many 14.04 to 16.04 failures :P

@Zanna ha ok... am happy then... I usually get downvoted...

8:54 PM
@Serg I am on exactly 4000 for this quarter :D

@Rinzwind hold on , i gotta go downvote you >:)

@Serg ???

( joking of course )

eh the month thing seems wrong?
2 days into august????

I'm on #3 this week and #19 this month (which is only today and yesterday)

8:55 PM
and I aint on it >:)

#1 this week on my page

cheater :=)

But as far as the all-time reputation goes, I need just a little bit more to get over to the 1st page . . .

I was on #2 last month though, only 153 points behind Rinzwind!

@AsmeJust can you try this xinput set-prop "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" "Synaptics Circular Scrolling Distance" 0.10000

8:57 PM
Somewhere i have a screenshot of when I was briefly number 1

@Rinzwind we are on a holiday :)

#4321 in June though because of Shog's spring cleaning script.
I've got a total of -3955 rep loss in that month.

@JacobVlijm cool >:) I was at Hockemheim this weekend <3

em .. . . why did I receive @Rinzwind's ping ? @JacobVlijm

-3955 :( :( :( that's like my entire rep

8:58 PM
@Serg accidentally pinged you instead of rinzy

@Zanna I've lost -10k . . . .I used to be at 33k

ok time to act like a leaf and leave :=D
Back tomorrow

waves :)

@rinz see you! Not sure if it is tomorrow :)

Bye Rinzy

8:59 PM
@Serg pain

And I'm on #14 this year despite the spring cleaning.
@Serg >:D
I invaded your mind

@ByteCommander yesh , I think of you every day , me ol' friend o' mine
:3

I'm amazed there are only 277 people with more than 5000 all time rep

And since when do leaves leave?
and only 131 10k+ users.

user136984
@AndroidDev Do you get any output when running it through Terminal?

9:01 PM
how about 20k+ users ?

Exactly 60 of them.
Let me earn 117 more points and there will be 61.

@ByteCommander come on, regain that rep and be 61st
lol

we think the same

@Zanna you have MATE?

9:03 PM
great minds etc

yesh, totally
@Zacharee1 I have MATE in VM too :D

yeah I have MATE

huh

maybe your answer works for others though

@Zanna and what's the question ?

9:04 PM
someone posted a new answer and it works

I wonder how many points I had at maximum before the spring cleaning. Should have been around 20.2k, but I don't know exactly

@ByteCommander I was practically on 40

@Zacharee1 I can delete my comment now you've seen it?

@Zanna I'm pretty sure I tested it out, so something must've changed
weird

Q: Compile Unity without launcher

JLTDI would like to modify unity to not show the launcher (left side bar) at all. I'm not looking for any solution that would let the launcher be in some cases visible. I really want it to completly disappear. It's a gift for my fiance and I want to achieve the highest possible Woman Acceptance Facto...

somebody has done whole lotta work
@Zanna there's option in mate tweak for that. I know it uses lightdm-gtk greeter, so it also can use a config file. I'll post an answer today maybe

9:09 PM
Indeed, very impressive, but no need for the sexism in the question!

Yeah, probably that should be edited out

> I want to achieve the highest possible Woman Acceptance Factor
lol xD

@Serg while I was testing the answers on that post, I saw the other files in the directories and I figured there must be a GUI method

3 more hours and i can start posting questions again

what

9:17 PM
hahaha I think I broke my background with some mv typo

lol

OK , rice is cooking. I probably should make more coffee . . .

history says I did it correctly... but still I broke it somehow hahaha

quotes ?

no, there's no funky chars

9:53 PM
Wow, turning the webradio player off reduces my power consumption from >700mA to >500mA and increases battery expectation by half an hour...
power-flow-indicator is very interesting :)

I see you found it very useful :)

However, simply typing here in chat lets it go up to >700mA again...
So I can decide whether I want to type or listen my battery empty.

xD

it looks like the Note 7 might be a nice phone after all
same specs, but a better UI

I am an idiot, apparently, because I can't reproduce the FUBAR background even with my history 0.o

9:56 PM
just for UI ?

fixed it though

@ByteCommander interesting . . . Try using USB keyboard vs your internal keyboard. I'm gonna test the same later today. I think it might show difference

I thought you are Zanna

@CodeX I just tryed that setting, play a little with it but I think it's for the scrolling distance

you thought I'm an idiot?

9:58 PM
Backlight makes the biggest difference in power consumption

@Zanna wellll......
>:D

@CodeX The Galaxy line has no backlighting

you said you are an Idiot .. I said I thought you are Zanna

hahahaha

10:00 PM
@AsmeJust I am not sure what is working for me .. but I am somewhat able to make small circle if I start from edges

love that page :)

@Zacharee1 was talking about laptop : )

ah
lol

@CodeX Brightest backlight means around 900mA while darkest one is around 700mA...

@CodeX Same here I managed to make small circles but it works badly... it's so smooth in Windows

10:02 PM
@ByteCommander in mine consumption is in watts
@AsmeJust windows smoothness is very hard to achieve
also Windows boot time is hard to acheive in Linux :P

@CodeX you mean the 5 minutes?

I reset my windows today .. even then it took more than 5 mins to boot

@CodeX start it with --amps argument

user136984
Well... I went to the park today... And now I smell a strong mixture of fox and pug poo... And god knows what else... But no matter how many times I wash I cannot get the smell off! Who knows, maybe I'll grow to like it, but I'm not sure that that will happen any time soon... I guess it's my fault for getting so cuddly with all the dogs today... They were a bit sticky... :D

10:06 PM
@ByteCommander hmm will try

user136984
I at least have to get that smell out of my hair though! I'm recontaminating the rest of me! :D

@ByteCommander powertop with --amps ?

@CodeX
Windows boot time is hard to acheive in Linux ? What you mean?
I find Ubuntu boot time faster by FAAAAAAR...

@AsmeJust that was the point

@AsmeJust I'm guessing sarcasm
or irony

10:08 PM
yeah sarcasm

@CodeX nooo, Serg's power-flow-indicator :D

@ByteCommander oops I don't have that xD ..will try later
I am afraid the indicator might consume more power than backlight

user136984
We need some sort of sarcasm font here... Most of the time I can tell, but sometimes people are so sneaky with it that it fools me...

surely not.

my sarcasm mostly ends with :P

10:10 PM
@ParanoidPanda try it like this

user136984
@Zacharee1: Ok... Now that is very confusing looking... But it fits the job! :P

indeed that does look somehow sarcastic...
hahaha

thanks, Tumblr

ah
yes

10:13 PM
@CodeX And I'm from Germany...

my CV on that was the first one

@Zanna no need to brag :p

user136984
@CodeX: More like Window cleaners. :P

it's like the YT comments: FIRST
@ByteCommander The humorless country ;)

user136984
10:14 PM
(@CodeX: That was a randomly made joke with no idea about the context nor really targeted at you. :P)

There's a joke about German humor

@Zacharee1 Not at all...

xD

> How many Germans does it take to screw in a lightbulb? None; we are very efficient and have no sense of humor.
4
I think that's it ^

Hmm...

10:15 PM
hmm...

should I laugh

I wonder that too.

user136984
:D

user136984
Well, I beat you all to it (laughing)! ;D

> What do you call someone who speaks three languages?

Ok, now they're just getting weird... :P

user136984
What about some Panda jokes?

@CodeX Mine are black.

There are 10 types of people in this world. those who understand binary, and those who don't
2

10:17 PM
The joke is we're like the only country that doesn't try to teach people a second language

you made America great again

@Zanna lolol

oh my...

> How many American tourists does it take to change a light bulb?

Fifteen. Five to figure out how much the bulb costs in the local currency, four to comment on "how funny-looking" local lightbulbs are, three to hire a local person to change the bulb, two to take pictures, and one to buy postcards in case the pictures don't come out.
it's sad because that one's true ^

I used to be a joker just like you, but then i watched the world burn
( Skyrim + Batman references )

10:18 PM
@Serg tuhs

There's a whole site full of these things hateusa.narod.ru/jokeusa.htm

I actually made those up... :D

C'mon tablet, ship!

I smiled :)

@CodeX har har and har

weird laugh

10:20 PM
Huh. Apparently hardware defects cause G4s to bootloop after ~6-8 months and LG does the best they can to avoid repairing them.

that's some interesting bug

Just to improve this room's sense of humour.

user136984
Does anyone know anything about JTables in Java? And how to use the .setModel() method?

user136984
Because it's not working very well for me...

Nope, never had to use that.

10:24 PM
Java never worked for us too

What are you doing in Java btw?

nice vid as well

@CodeX Yeah sarcasme for sure.... my bad

BUT Windows have a better RAM management I think. In Ubuntu, whem my RAM reach about 90% everything freeze, hard disk works 100%, no time to close any apps . (I don't have SWAP partition though)

Never have such problem in Windows

@AsmeJust well how much ram you have ?

10:29 PM
@AsmeJust without swap partition it will freeze and might crash also
considering your ram reaches 90%

I used to have like 4 GB ram, no swap, and it would crash. AFter I started making swap files, it doesn't crash anymore. 1.5 GB swap file is sufficient

I have 16 .. It doesn't even reaches 8

This guy is really funny as well

@Serg 4 GB

@AsmeJust yeah, it's not gonna be quite enough, in case you have a runaway process like chrome that just consumes all ram. Do you want me to give you a link to a script for making swap file that I wrote ?

10:36 PM
Why the heck does YT constantly advise me nationalistic German videos?
Do they think I'm a Nazi just because of my GeoIP?

Another script accepted

you can block those using this github.com/ParticleCore/Particle

Ever seen a flame-throwing bagpipe?
\m/ `(^_^)´ \m/

user136984
That is very strange... I copied some images somewhere, but they've disappeared from that location (I can't see them in Nautilus nor Terminal with ls), but I can still see them (though their thumbnails aren't loading) when I open the location using the GTKFileChooser... Why is that then? Where have my files gone?

@ParanoidPanda um, did they have leading dot ? .fileNAme.png ?
what is the location you copied to ?

10:46 PM
Did you fsck already?
Does anybody else like bagpipes and rock/metal in here btw?

user136984
@Serg: Nope... I just copied to my Documents folder.

user136984
@ByteCommander: I'll do that tomorrow.

user136984
But this really is very odd.

user136984
It's never happened before...

user136984
Do you think the files are there and just hidden or they've actually disappeared?

10:49 PM
@ParanoidPanda try something like this
find ~/Documents -type f -name "my_file.png"
or
find ~/Documents -type f -iname "*my_file.png*"

Whoa, have you ever seen a 360° video on Youtube?
You can drag the camera angle up and down and all the way round.
That's cool!

user136984
@Serg: Will do in a moment, but I tried redownloading and copying the files into that location and it's asking me if I want to override the original files or not, so they must be still there on some level.

First time I see something like that.

user136984
@Serg: That command finds it.

user136984
These are pictures of my lovely fat Hamster, I don't want them to be lost. :(

user136984
10:57 PM
The file choosers for applications can be used to find and open them though, just seemingly Nautilus and Terminal's ls can't see it... Let me test some other commands...

user136984
@ByteCommander @Serg: So what do you think this issue could be caused by?

user136984
The tree command sees them.

did you run ls -a or ls -A?

user136984
Wait, my mistake, apparently ls can see them too.

Nautilus bug

10:58 PM
What is the filename?

user136984
Just the normal ls command can seemingly see them now, though I could have sworn when I originally ran ls -l I didn't see them.

user136984
There are 4, but one is DSCF2365.jpg.

Hmm...
Can you stat them? What does it say?
