While trying to upgrade ubuntu using an alternate iso will it always download stuff from the internet during the process? If so, then what is the point of the alternate iso?
I've been trying to update Ubuntu from 11.04 to 11.10 through Update Manager multiple times since the release but have encountered this error every single time:
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:

the php room is all like "well it depends on your project", and i'm all like "well it's a CRM/CMS for a small/medium company, i'm not new to PHP just it's frameworks..." but apparently i need more detail than that.
I propose oneboxing support for the Android Market, more specifically for Android apps on the Android Market.
This is the relevant part of an app URL:

I understand now. Twitter and Facebook are both places where people blurt out meaningless garbage. However, Jeff and Joel blurt out garbage on Twitter, therefore it is useful. – user27414 Jul 15 '10 at 18:30
lol, was cleaning up a work station to do a repair just now and noticed a pen, I was like "oh, freebees!", picked up the pen, did not feel good, weird pen, no one around, pen was dirty (not filthy, just used a lot, we work with chemicals sometimes), trow away pen...
5 mins later comes a co-worked "Hey have you seen a pen around here?", me: "special weird pen that was not good to write with?", him: "yeah its for left handed ppl..."

The weight of the flag was so awesome that it crushed the pole where it stood. So people all over the community came to give it a "helping hand". many people touched the flag to put it up, that is why the name "helpful flags".
Now the flag floats in the air with magnetized nitrogen ubuntu techno...

Are there any instant messaging clients with custom emoticons like on the Windows Live Messenger or do I have to use Wine for it?
I've already tried Pidgin and the default Empathy clients. None have emoticons how I like them.
say I have a large HTML file (~1000kb) it will take no time at all to download.. however retrieving even the smallest amount of data takes a while.. I first noticed this when I was building a hangman game and wanted to pass the 'answer' in as JSON so the user couldn't easily cheat
I find both the Tree view and the Places view useful. Changing from one view to the other is not fast because one have to go into the appearance menu. It's even slower with Oneiric because this menu can now be far away.
(Before Unity, I always had the tree view on and I used my bookmarks directly...
While I have a nautilus window open I can do Ctrl+Shift+N to create a new folder in the current directory. However there is no default keyboard shortcut for creating a new document. How would I create one?
@MarcoCeppi nothing... but everyone seems to hate on all frameworks so when asking about one I always ask which is worse (leads away from them attacking me for using a framework because they think i'm a fanboy)
@MarcoCeppi I am looking for something to help me stay organized (i'm the lone developer) as well as help me handle mundane things (if possible) like paging dataset results, breadcrumbs, user auth, ect..
I'm leaning towards CI right now... having never used a php framework (but having used php since 2000) it looks a little more comfortable to me.. Except the tutorial he keeps wanting to use short open tags and y no __contruct()
guys, does setting de-interlacing to on, help with videos not getting opened in a maximized window? Coz it did work for me, just wanted to confirm if that really works, or just accidentally works for me..
@MarcoCeppi I was just told "don't use CI, only because they are switching to OSL" - however I fail to see the huge impact on me if the project is not for profit.
Why do the Ubuntu 11.10 bookmarks (I bookmarked Shares on my Home Server) always disappear between sessions . It's very tedious to have to enter them again every time. They are not listed in my ~.gtk.bookmarks any more, just the basis stuff as below.

I use Ubuntu 11.10 with xfce & gnome, and am dependent on company network infrastructure for windows shares (as well as Outlook, but more on that later). So I also fall under their password policy, which dictates that I change it every so often. I keep up to date with all updates from Ubuntu....
