For the love of pete man, WHY ARE YOU USING 1.8?!
@AmithKK wget --no-check-certificate https://raw.github.com/joshfng/railsready/master/railsready.sh && bash railsready.sh && source ~/.bashrc && rvm reload && gem install sinatra && alert
It should be a crime to work on a new project with anything older than 1.9.2
I'm going to attempt again to get a solution to this...
jrg
jrg
We all know the answer.

Its a buggggggggggggggggg
my beef is that in chromium my session would be remembered like ff
bug with sessions?
jrg
jrg
in chromium
what bug are you talking about?
13:20
watch the video. FF remembers my session after i close the browser - chrome does not on ubuntu, but does in windows.
@rlemon It's not authenticating you against Google at that point, it's using the HTML Storage and stackauth to track your session
it remembers for me here >:D
Since support for that is flakier in Firefox, Firefox just uses Cookies
@MarcoCeppi I used ask ubuntu as an example - all sites / sessions are the same.
yahoo mail, github, twitter, ect..
Might be an issue with your setup, I don't encounter that here
13:22
hrmm..
jrg
jrg
yeah, its not like that here.
i was encountering that bug for a long time
solution?
@rlemon This happens to me too when I close the browser for the first time. So, I restart the browser again, and without clearing the cache I login to all the sites again, and close the browser and that's it. Chrome now remembers my logins
Try that if you can, may or may not work for ya.
yea this is not just on first login - it's persistent. If you look at my vid how is that any different than what I am doing now?
good day!

@jokerdino still using precise?
Yep :D
jrg
jrg
it hasn't started building
its on the waiting list
I normally don't do +1. But when I do, I do it in the production machines! :D
2
jrg
jrg
if you want to try something, you could do a pbuilder.
13:30
@jrg Yeah, I know. I had uploaded it hours ago.
jrg
jrg
i see
i compiled the GTG app from source.
the devel version :D
hm, let's say you know bash to some advanced degree - would you add it to your vita? i mean, it's just bash...
jrg
jrg
yes.
it might be bash, but at the same time, not many know how to do it
something even better would be a link to a project written entirely in bash.
i think perl would be worth more than bash, but luckily i don't know perl. :D
13:35
err perl ?
i tried writing a half baked bash script.
i mean, i the end, bash is just a shell
well, i don't really know bash. so. it is your call.
and @jrg you are not using precise?
jrg
jrg
not right this moment
waiting for zsync to finish, then i'm going to stick it on my USB stick and rock 'n roll.
13:39
oh gd luck.
jrg
jrg
is GTG any good? haven't heard of it before
it is supposed to be a to do app. though i can't say if it is better than wunderlist.
gtg is in the software-center.
actually, i would say don't bother with it. i just wanted to build a deb package from scratch and so, i thought i might try it with GTG..
BTW, good / bad news. I just nominated myself for leading my translating / loco team. >:D

he is just not active :(
jrg

ah. thats why i strongly believe in the plurality of admins
13:52
hope he also believes in the same thing. :D
and i had a chat with dpm last night. he said, if i am ready to get the team become more active, i should give it a try. :)

Q: What is wrong with Gwibber?

ReljaThis is my first time using Gwibber, so I'm a little bit confused. I start it and try to add a new account for facebook, but when I click the "authorise" button, a window appears and dissapears again. What is wrong? It's shown up every time I tried this and it's driving me crazy. Btw, i use Ubunt...

Truth.

LMAO - how about Twitter is the twitter for the Internet we've been waiting for.
@PollyClient

We make the internet -> We make web browsers -> We make web pages to be viewed on the web browsers -> we then make a series of increasingly useless apps to re-display all of the same information as the web pages... but organized slightly different.
jrg
jrg
There are a lot of things you can't do (easily at least) with webapps.
notifications is one of them, since not everyone uses Chrom(ium)e.
Polly lets you use multiple accounts at the same time. can the webapps do that?
Yup
Log into one, open a new browser, log into the other.
point is, problems with the app? Use the damn site!
jrg
jrg
You know how complicated that is for an average user, right?
so the solution is not to educate the user, but to make a system that caters to the stupid?
jrg
jrg
14:44
Yes, to a certain degree. And part of that is making one-trick ponies.
ok, gotcha.
jrg
jrg
however, at the same time, I still prefer thunderbird to gmail.

jokerdinoCurrently, there are no plans to make a Blackberry client for Ubuntu One. I replied to a comment from last year just now, where a guy was asking about why compiz doesn't support migration of old settings.
Hmm, yeah users ask all sorts of questions.
15:17
can someone point me in the direction of a 'how to setup filesharing between two ubuntu pcs' guide. that would be great!
But some questions are just based on "Hey look kid, I don't contribute, I don't read, I don't care... but give me what I ask for."

jsifddle Y U ALWAYS RETURN 502?!
@jokerdino I know that feeling :P
15:19
You know what my biggest peeve is?
Where it pertains to Linux adoption that is.
When I introduce Linux to someone:
- Can it run my Windows games?
- Why do I have to use something called "WINE"?
- Why can't this game work on WINE?
- Why does this game run slow in Ubuntu?
i totally know how it feels.
and it goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on...
your list only includes games.
jrg
jrg
You're forgetting that people only know of Microsoft office.
and when it can't do exactly what they want, they brand it useless
jrg
jrg
15:22
and never use anything else.
Windows is like the family van with the automatic doors and fancy dvd players. Linux is like a McLaren F1, stripped down to nothing but sexy speed experience.
2
jrg
jrg
People normally pirate MSO before they will look into alternatives.
@rlemon thats Linux. this is Ubuntu.
2
Ubuntu is the upgrade package the dealer throws on.
And, I've proven many times, Ubuntu can be the family van, the RV, the house, the yacht, and more...
If people would drop old mindsets.
jrg
jrg
can't forget the TV. Very very important. ;)
15:24
Oh yeah
@rlemon askubuntu.com/… would this work? :)
@jrg so are you saying ubuntu is not linux?
looks around for trolls
jrg
jrg
@rlemon we've been over this before.... sigh
Linux = Kernel.
Ubuntu = Operating system that incorporates above kernel.
lol obviously.
i was half-assed trolling
Linux = "holy"
Ubuntu = "pagan"

(In the minds of Linux fanatics)
jrg
jrg
15:26
If you want the pure linux experience, go use Arch or Fedora.
;D
eh...

jrg
jrg
yes, but I'M FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEe
i am getting a virtualbox! :D
now, what version should i try in the box?
jrg
jrg
12.04.
set.
i can upgrade inside the box right? never tried a VBox before.
BRB
jrg
jrg
VirtualBox = virtual machine software.
and (for the most part), a VM is just like running it on the bare hardware.
example: I run 11.10, 11.04, 10.04 desktop AND server in Vbox. Just install guest additions and you're set.

Is SOPA dead? I've heard some rumors, but is it really DEAD?
jrg
jrg
It's not dead.
Merely shelved.
Hello all
jrg
jrg
Hello @AmithKK.
@rlemon Mac is then like the everyday car that just works out of the box...
@jrg Hey
I saw a mac at a store
And I got the ssh password :P
16:04
@Alvar and costs 120% more, and takes only Apple branded proprietary gas.
jrg
jrg
They sure are shiny. Thats about all that can be said for them.
@rlemon true, but they just work no worries they just works.
@Alvar Orly?
jrg
jrg
also, @Alvar, this explains what happened with SOPA:
Dear IT community: please continue working on ways to hack around SOPA, because odds are it will eventually become law under another name.
@jrg Trying out Sinatra... Awesome
16:05
@AmithKK I see you've never used one. or owned one
Cant I use markdown?
jrg
jrg
@AmithKK sinatra is indeed awesome.
@Alvar Nope, Send me one
is it really dead?
jrg
jrg
Oh you want to do markdown with sinatra? Join me on IRC and I'll walk you through it
16:06
@AmithKK then you can't say anything about it! if you haven't owned it you can't say your opinion!
jrg
jrg
I don't suggest using markdown with sinatra, normally people do HAML.
@Alvar not dead, in fact its feeling better.
@Alvar However, other than Marco, I'm probably one of the only people in this room that can say anything about a Mac.
and here I'll say it: They are beautiful hardware, wonderfully designed software, and it might even work nicely for some people! However, when it breaks, it breaks. So I prefer to use Ubuntu, because when it breaks, i can normally fix it
@jrg Got a G3?

@AmithKK Was a old G3 iMac. Still have it downstairs. :P
@jrg Really! Awesome!
jrg
jrg
16:10
@Alvar at the time I used it, it was top of the line.
@jrg the hard part with Ubuntu for me is that I can't rely on it. I can never expect it to just work when I need to. that's annoying...
@jrg then you should try it again. They've gotten better....
jrg
jrg
And then it was near the middle. Then I ran a DSL install in a emulator. On that iMac. with less than 600MB of ram.
a lot better
jrg
jrg
And now I use Ubuntu, and I cringe every time I have to touch the family iMac (which is only 2-3 years old)
@jrg I had a power mac g3 blue & white it's soooo cool! :)
jrg
jrg
16:12
Although part of that is the parental controls.
@jrg well I love the mac because it jsut works! But I can't live without some functions in Ubuntu. I've tried and I just can't! I should make a mix of mac and Ubuntu...
Anyone feel like making this look pretty? github.com/rlemon/StackSearch

how will I else "use" it?

Q: Can Ubuntu (or server) run a 64 core (4X16) server (one motherboard)?

GeneWe've been doing graphics rendering using Maxwell Render on a Ubuntu box with a 6 core AMD Phenom II Processor. Ubuntu handles all 6 cores brilliantly, but a 4 core laptop is almost as fast. though, i have no idea if core = cpu for this setting/the kernel (probably yes).
18:42
@jrg why would you say this wouldn't fit Ubuntu?
@htorque CPUS are considered physical core
Dual core is two CPUs
jrg
jrg
Just seems outside of our typical scope. However, we normally are just "halp plz, broke unity it sucks" so I'm not someone who can judge that. :)
