Q: Grub on 2 partitions, only want on one

cactusesarefunSome context to start: Have Windows 10, Ubuntu, and Kali 2 installed as a triple boot configuration on my laptop. Hi @hbdgaf how goes things
Started the new job today. The job roles I've shadowed so far have it SO easy. Shadowed two dept mgrs in one day to get a lot of notes done. I'm not sure what my actual job code will be, or if I'm going to be the official floater that just runs around without a proper job code and handles things.
ah, does it seem like a better stress level?
Absolutely. One girl was complaining about things getting messed up. All I said was "Seriously, this is easy compared to WalMart." The response: "I'll just shut up now." It was quite hilarious.
My dog was angry at me when I got home though. I was present 24/7 for 2 weeks. Then I had to go to work. I hit the door, and she's all "You were gone all day. I thought you died. Now you have to squeeze a day's worth of petting in to an hour."
02:46
haha, yeah
good to have a fuzzy greeting when you get home
It is.
On another work note, I think I know why they want me in the backroom. I was killing like 5-6 pallets a day where I was. That's this total store freight level... and they have twelve people to run it.

So...
nice
Yeah. So, this is going to be pretty easy, hopefully. I could still be in the honeymoon period though.

@NathanOsman several people have reported such spam recently.
@NathanOsman lol
@NathanOsman What's that supposed to be? @Seth
honestly? no idea what they're real goal is.
Are chat mods able to edit messages from any time?
yeah
worunb
hey
:p
05:07
The probably scrape email addresses from profiles and then send out spam like that.
That one surprised me for two reasons:
(1) SpamAssassin somehow missed classifying it as spam
(2) Why would they target askubuntu.com users?
@NathanOsman The other instances I heard were from webapps.
They probably make a generic scraper for the entire network and then just run it everywhere.
I can't imaging it's worth the effort for them just to target Ask Ubuntu users.
I can't imagine it being worth the time period..
05:25
@Seth you might have missed the earlier discussion where we were discussing spammers and their economics. Basically those Viagra emails bring in a lot of money, because all it takes is one guy out of XXXXXX to buy a few grands worth and that's what ends up happening
really?
one guy buys a few grands worth?
wow.
there was a NY Times article some years ago where they actually interviewed people who bought viagra through the spam emails
and yep, there were these big buyers... who actually waited for the next spam email to refill!!
on a side note, man I feel good pushing some late-night (personal) code on Saturday night ;)
I can't find the original article I read, which was pretty funny because they had a picture of a guy that clicked on a lot of viagra spam and they interviewed him (as I recall) .. but here's an article with some numbers at least: nytimes.com/2006/07/03/technology/03drill.html
0.02% click-through rate for "pharmaceutical spam"
According to another article, a study "revealed that to sell $100 worth of Viagra, a spam provider needed to send 12.5 million messages." nytimes.com/2011/05/20/technology/20spam.html
05:48
wow

Good Morning
@NathanOsman this is nice
Guys, I have an idea for FOSS project. would you like to participate?
10:12
@GeoMint What is your idea?
a digital photo album
with export to pdf if we can
i wanna think a cool name for that
Make the product first, think of the name later before release
hmm true
When you're developing on your machine just call it dphoto or something. Or use a popular cute pattern like "yadpa" (yet another digital photo album) or "dadpa" (dadpa is a digital photo album).
I am gonna create a github repository
10:35
@Mahesh Hi, how do you do these days?
I'm great!
how are you?
@Brandin do you think, i should use GTK ?
Morning folks
good morning @A.B.
@Mahesh pretty good myself. The rains are a mix of fun and annoyance though.
At least it's not flooded here. Whew.
10:40
I hope everyone is safe
Our area is safe. But the situation looks pretty dire.
wow glade.gnome.org GTK UI Editor
@GeoMint For a GUI personally I would start with a prototype in Tk (Tcl/Tk and friends). That is a proof of concept. Don't worry too much about details at that point. After that, whether you want to do the actual product using another technology with GUI UI Editors etc. is then up for question. Using UI editor before you even have anything is the wrong order in my opinion.
@GeoMint \o =)
I am totaly newbie at GUI programs. I know c/c++ for command line use. (once used with FLTK)
what is TK ?
i used once Qt but i suck :P
10:51
@GeoMint You could also do a prototype in PyQt. This allows you to design and get a working visible result quickly. At that point it would be straightforward to port to C++/Qt if you prefer that for long term development.
@Brandin i use C++, not python. So i think i should start with c++
11:21
@GeoMint C++? Great, is there a better way than this: askubuntu.com/a/706520/367165
@A.B. no idea :P
@GeoMint =)
@GeoMint There are many free tutorials available for Qt. I would give it another try. They use C++ as the instruction language. Also the Qt distribution has many examples to learn from.
Ohh ok
12:00
@GeoMint Look at this list" https://github.com/vhf/free-programming-books/blob/master/free-programming-books.md
Qt is covered by Introduction to Design Patterns in C++ with Qt, C++ GUI Programming With Qt 3 and Qt5 Cadaques
@Brandin thank you
A good thing about Qt is good backwards-compatibility. So for example the Qt3 examples still work in Qt4 and Qt5.
So its better to begin Qt4 or Qt3 ?
12:26
@GeoMint I don't think it matters. For example, you only need Qt5 if you want to use Qt5-specific features like QML.
hmm ok
If you code against Qt4, then your program can work as-is on systems that ship with Qt4. Qt3 is probably too old to code against now.
thank you

AlexI managed to install Rayilroad Tycoon 3 with wine on Ubuntu 14.04. The game also seems to run, at least to start. basically if you use a command that does something to a file you need to feed it the file name, or if you put in a option it nees s a variable - made up example: a -n flag for a program may be an option meaning number and would need something like -n=5
@Mateo It depends on the program. Some programs may require -n5 or -n 5, not allowing an = separator.
yeah I said "made up example"
so see usage in the man
@MaartenWachters paste your code so we can see what you are trying to do: paste.ubuntu.com
Don't paste on a 3rd party site. Paste here

it is "paste.Ubuntu.com" it is ubuntu's paste site...

@cl-netbox I wrote an answer for the bounty question.
@cl-netbox morning o/.
Hello folks!
@xiaodongjie Hello :)
@cl-netbox how are you today?
woah, getting lots of server errors on the developer pages for. the Ubuntu store, missing icons on my apps and stuff, maybe they are upgrading?
@xiaodongjie I'm fine - wrote a few new answers ... and what about you ? Are you fine as well ?
@Mateo hi, I also saw the error. minites ago, this error have been fixed.
@cl-netbox yes, fine. How's my answer? it's seems good?
@Mateo wow, that error is reproduced for me. :(
You same?
It shows me "Server Error

yes, the server has some issues today i guess.
@Mateo how much programs do you registered on Ubuntu software center?
@xiaodongjie seen what I think of it ? ... and what do you think about my new answers ? :)

webapps are easy, just a desktop shortcut to a website on the phone, with some options

oh, @Mateo yours are all phone apps?
not Desktop app?
yeah, the review system is way better on the phone

@Mateo wow, that's good. How many Ubuntu Phone users in the world do you guess?
@Mateo are you using Ubuntu phone?
I did not get it yet.
@cl-netbox are you using Ubuntu phone?
oh, it's weekend. :o
@xiaodongjie no :)
I have the meizu mx4
@cl-netbox @Mateo I want use it but i could not buy it.

15:32
@ByteCommander no, I didn't make a mistake. I was referring to the floating dots on that page you made for me.
So many compliments on that :P
@NathanOsman What floating dots? o.O I'm really confused now...
I guess one of us is suffering from temporary dementia, but I can't tell who it is yet. :-/
@xiaodongjie At least 2 here in the chat room: Mateo and me!
(I have a BQ Aquaris 4.5 Ubuntu Edition)
@Fabby yeah, right. :D
I want one soon, but don't have any yet...
@NathanOsman Can it be that you confuse me with @Whaaat?

At small resolutions, your avatars are similar...
@NathanOsman You script is currently not working for me neither...
yeah, it's not working..
I see the prefs menu in the bottom right corner, but neither mine nor any other's status icons, although all checkboxes in the prefs are ticked.
I got a notification:

15:52
I did not (see it at least).
user136984
Hmm... @Nathan your chat script doesn't seem to be working...
Yup. Investigating.
Looks like a deadlock.
@ParanoidPanda should be up again. Might have to refresh the page.
user136984
Ah yes, it's working again @Nathan! :)
:)
I have to fix up the code that acquires the mutex. Some goroutines hold it for too long.
@NathanOsman It's worse: it's ParanoidPanda instead of ByteCommander...
16:01
What is?
(But I wasn't going to point that out to you deliberately)
the three floating dots?
You memory really is letting you go...
:P
I would get a head-check!
Well, which dots do you mean? Those that display someone is typing or those from the sechat.quickmediasolutions.com site's header? @NathanOsman
No, no, no.
user136984
@Nathan: Are you talking about the dots I complained about? :P
(I'm mobile so I'm a bit slow typing.)
user136984

@Nathan: O.o... There are no dots there... Maybe you need an eye test too...? :D
Anyone an idea here?

user136984
Ah those... Ok, what about them @Nathan?
user136984
Also, how do you get started with making GNOME Extensions?
16:22
people like them
@ParanoidPanda search for advanced settings, there is a plugins area in that
there is a website that can download them
user136984
But how do you actually make them?
@ByteCommander have a look here: I had the same problem with gedit.
@ParanoidPanda don't know
back.
@Fabby But there is no folder for gnome-terminal anywhere in my home directory.
16:37
@ByteCommander no file neither?
let me look
find ~ -iname '*terminal*' has no output.
And I don't use anything like the user forwarding you describe.
I just click the default launcher.
it's in gsettings
org.gnome.desktop.default-applications.terminal
Can you do a: @ByteCommander
gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.desktop.default-applications.terminal
and a:
cat ~/.config/qle/initial_backups/gnome-terminal_initial.txt
cat ~/.gconf/apps/gnome-terminal
@ByteCommander That's just what I used. The same principle applies...
Could you provide above???
(I'll check with what I have where it works)
Sry, was away for a minute...
$ gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.desktop.default-applications.terminal
org.gnome.desktop.default-applications.terminal exec-arg '-e'
org.gnome.desktop.default-applications.terminal exec 'x-terminal-emulator'
$ cat ~/.config/qle/initial_backups/gnome-terminal_initial.txt
cat: /home/alphawolf/.config/qle/initial_backups/gnome-terminal_initial.txt: No such file or directory
$ cat ~/.gconf/apps/gnome-terminal
cat: /home/alphawolf/.gconf/apps/gnome-terminal: No such file or directory
That's it.
BRB
Are you running unity? @ByteCommander
Yes, I am @Fabby.
> I'm using Ubuntu 15.10 with Unity 7.3.2 and gnome-terminal 3.16.2-1ubuntu4.
16:53
14.04.3 LTS, gnome-terminal v. 3.6.2
looks like you're missing some settings. Does it still work in the guest session and do you have those files/directories there?
one moment...
~/.gconf/apps/gnome-terminal is a directory
~/.config/qle/initial_backups/gnome-terminal_initial.txt is a file (at least: on my system)
@Fabby Works perfect on guest account, but I nether have ~/.gconf/apps/**gnome-terminal**, nor do I have ~/.config/**qle** there.
In the guest session, can you do a find . -iname "*term*" | more and see if you have something similar somewhere else in your home directory??? @ByteCommander
(that's how I found my files)
@ByteCommander @Fabby I checked this ... I don't have these directories on Unity as well ... just forgot to say ... Hello to you :)
17:03
@Fabby Nope:
root@wolf-pack:/tmp/guest-FfiWLa# find . -iname "*term*"
./.local/share/zeitgeist/fts.index/termlist.baseB
./.local/share/zeitgeist/fts.index/termlist.DB
./.local/share/zeitgeist/fts.index/termlist.baseA
:O
I dunno then...
@cl-netbox Hi there! :-)
@cl-netbox 14.04.3?
o/
@Fabby 15.10 of course =) but wait ... I check my wife's PC - she has 14.04.03
@ByteCommander: well, you and @cl-netbox have the same version, and it works in the guest session, so you should be able to figure it out between the two of you intox! :P
17:06
Well, I'll try the magic reboot trick, maybe it's just a windows-like temporary bug...
BRB
@Mateo: One for you ;-)
yes @Fabby - in 14.04 ~/.gconf/apps/gnome-terminal folder exists - in 15.10 not. :)
user136984
Anyone know anything about this? :)
I'm back.
You know guys, usually to solve problems...
- on Windows: reboot,
- on Linux: be root.
In this case the Windows way solved it! :P

@ByteCommander Please tell this our friend @A.B. !!! =)

@cl-netbox What exactly?

@ByteCommander REBOOT did the trick ! :=)
@cl-netbox Why? What's his problem?
@ByteCommander hahaha, nice.
@ByteCommander It's an ongoing joke between us ... he insists on his opinion that a reboot is NOT necessary at all ... in whatever cases ! =)
Ah, right. Now I understand. Well, he sees your ping notification, that will be enough... :D
