Q: INSTALL UBUNTU IN LENOVO G500S

S. SAMANTAwhen I want to install ubuntu alongside win 8 in my lenovo g500s in the installation page this shows that there is free space of 1tb and not the windows partitions.

00:31
@Seth that firewall question is a dupe, VTC. Already voted there myself
@Seth that win8 question is possible duplicate of askubuntu.com/q/221835/295286
@Seth I THINK IT IS
(aren't caps fun)
@Zacharee1 caps are fun . . . and they make people look like they're shouting
00:48
Yes
That's why I hate it when that's the title of a question
It makes it seem like the person thinks they're more important than the rest of the people asking questions, so they try to get more attention, like "HEY, LOOK AT ME!"
I generally edit then ignore questions like that here :p
01:06
@Serg eh, maybe.
I think the issues are related, but different.
@Serg which?
@Seth The one that asks about Settings / Administration / Firewall . . . looks like they hav3e deleted their answer already after i pointed out it's a dupe , because i cannot find it on the unanswered page
ohh, that one.
Weird - the middle-mouse button has suddenly stopped working in Blender.
Hrm... on second thought...
I'm not sure it's working anywhere.
01:14
Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Yup, no change.
:(
Maybe I do need a new mouse after all.
I can share a link for a really nice $25 one
Sure - why not :P
This is the one that stopped working the other day when I knocked it across the desk.
A few whacks and it was working again for a few days.

Here, I can only find it used for some reason: amazon.com/…

@Serg Hi, o/
@xiaodongjie hello, my friend. How are you today ?
@Serg fine, and you? Oh, I wrote an answer for bounty +100. :D
I think that my answer is very useful for him and AU users.

:) I will try

@xiaodongjie 我一个好朋友带了普洱茶饮给我, 她这个秋天回了国, 订婚了。 一月准备结婚了。。。哎,好可惜。。。
@Serg Do you have a girl friend? You told about your GF? :O
04:17
@Serg Hmmm...
@xiaodongjie o/
@xiaodongjie nope, i don't. I used to like one girl but she doesn't like me, only be friends
@Serg any idea at dependency problems?
@Serg yes, she is a girl, So she is your friend who a girl. I meant right that.
:)
@Ravan are you an EOS's fan?
define "fan"
yes, i meant that you very like to use EOS?
04:22
@xiaodongjie simply NO
@xiaodongjie yeah, she's my friend. But i like her more than just friend.
I use Ubuntu as main, rest as testing (whatever suits)
@Serg and i wish her more and more like you.
@Serg yeah, I know that feeling :P
@xiaodongjie 就是她准备结婚。我没机会了
04:25
@Serg yes, ;(
@Ravan did you pass the feeling, too?
yes
@Ravan oh, :( me, too.
@Serg hey man, typing in Chinese
hehe
@Ravan 你好?
@xiaodongjie hello there
Once I proposed a girl, my junior--she said " I don't have that FEELING"

Its a very odd to deal with dependency issues,
Its a never ending chain, sometimes

Serg, learned python?

@Ravan are you learning python?
Python ? Nope . I'm only on the hello world program
04:32
just started--but gave a break @xiaodongjie
I was a python developer for RedHat's anaconda. :P
@xiaodongjie good to know
But now i'm a Ubuntu Member. I dont like RedHat now.
Will you write a script for my post
about it?
04:34
nope
Can you delete the Q--
post in "inline"
@xiaodongjie O_O you've been a python developer for Red Hat ? wow, you are awesome !
@Serg are you following "Hard way"?
@Serg heh, not in Red Hat member. Just customizer :)
@Ravan Eos's dock is plank, right?
@Ravan I've tried couple of scripts from that book, but I stopped and didn't continue, because of lack of time
@xiaodongjie yes
04:37
After tomorrow , I will have a lot of time, so I plan to start learning a lot of stuff
@Serg I have done 5 exe--
all printing .....
I decided to follow documentation
I'm gonna do perl and python, but more importantly I need to study advanced java ( with stacks and queues and binary trees and searches ), and review C programming for microcontrollers. In my college we program PIC18 microcontrollers, and I will be doing that next semester for Interface Techniques
I too have much free time up to this month ending--
What are you studying now?
Serg
I am electrical engineering major in college, minor in computer science
So it's like I am studying one and half profession
I don't know about unv system there.
04:40
T_T first couple of years i was very unhappy, failed a lot of classes
I mean like Phd ?
Now I enjoy it more and more
PhD is high level, I am doing just Bachelor degree.
So I am going to be Bachelor of Science , with minor in computer science
@Ravan @Serg Which team are you a member of?
for example, Debian or Ubuntu or Redhat and so on.
@xiaodongjie none, I am just a guy who was very unhappy at school and one day decided to install Ubuntu :)
Me too, none
04:42
I am not worthy of Ubuntu membership yet
@Serg @Ravan I think that you can join any team with your good skills and hard work. So,
I would love to become an Ubuntu member one day. But right now, I can only write simple scripts. I am not a high-level developer.
@Serg but you have high reputation at here.
@xiaodongjie Yes. But I have not done any serious project. You have couple of programs in Ubuntu Software Center and you were python developer. I only write some scripts here.
@Serg you can create any Ubuntu Softwares, I can work with you to do it. :D
04:48
@xiaodongjie That will be great :) I hope we can work together one day. but right now I need to improve my level.
@Serg yes. :)
\o
@Ravan o/
@xiaodongjie I decided to offer 100 bounty to my post
but If no one answer, it will be wasted,
@Ravan yes, let me try to do it. And may i modify the plank or

@Ravan what is it you're trying to do ?
@xiaodongjie hope you understand?
what I need
wmctrl is what I and @Sneetsher discussed earlier
04:59
yes, i understand.
Ok, I'll install plank, and see what i can do

@Serg 谢谢。
05:11
@ravan if you go to settings (right click on the anchor ) and change "Show Unpinned" ON to OFF , then you only see pinned windows. Right now I have sakura and chromium, and they don't show up in plank, only whatever is pinned to plank shows up on plank
Try that, if that works, I'll post an answer. works for me though. But the plank i have installed is from a ppa, because i am using Ubuntu , not elementary os
Does startup disk creator work?
@Seth what do you mean ?
I've heard that it doesn't work well.
Works alright for me, I've created a couple of Ubuntu bootable usbs with it
cool.
05:17
OK, trick question: if I have a laptop with integrated graphics card ( meaning I've got a graphics card soldered to the motherboard ) what are my options for improving the graphics quality ?
Aside from using minimalistic desktop like Blackbox, of course
afaik there aren't really any.
I suspected that, but thought maybe someone has a hackery idea
05:45
So . . .I'm not much into classic music . . . but this modern-style violinist is pretty cool , I have to share her channel here

@intex also you better sober up. Alcohol doesn't solve problems. It temporarily kicks you out of reality, but the problems are still there. It's like the same with Ubuntu - screen brightness might not be working, and using a script makes it bearable, but the problem is still not fixed
@Serg let me check it
@Serg here Item management is missing

@Ravan Hmmm, i cannot do anything about the default dock . . . since I don't have elementary OS . . .

I think you should be able to upgrade to it . . .
@Ravan plank does not process the skip taskbar option.
@Ravan you there? I added just two lines to plank. So let it process skip taskbar option.
hey sorry, now I am

I analyzed the source of plank.
So i found a problem for skip taskbar option.
Current plank source could not process the skip taskbar option of windows.
right?
@xiaodongjie It will
06:30
So i just modified two files, lib/Items/ApplicationDockItem.vala and
lib/Services/WindowControl.vala.
So now it can process the skip task bar option.
May i write an answer for your question?
@xiaodongjie yeah, have you tested?
Well, post
yes, tested it. oh, you can test by your self, i'll let you know about it.
I will check later
yes, I see. when you bounty?

yes.
@xiaodongjie Well, started

wow, just +100? :P
