12:00 AM
@Zacharee1 Lol, won't happen (for now). Thanks for the pic. Is that Docky?

Yeah
Multiple themes, autohide if you want it
You can reposition it (I'm lookin' at you Unity)

Tim
Hmm I tried a dock and then realised that atually it was slowing me down
Urgh the lack of moving the launcher? Evil. Main reason I moved away...

kos
@Zacharee1 Nice. But still an add-on :D

Tim
@kos it's much quicker to hit super and type 3 letters than move your mouse slooowwwlly over to the dock and click :P

Yeah, I used to use a dock too but they all added a performance hit and tended to cause problems with window managers.

12:02 AM
@Tim DPI settings on my mouse :)
@kos why so averse?
Wow the Office installer doesn't even start on Wine

Tim
@Zacharee1 add ons are often not compatible...
@Zacharee1 nah they've done some magic to stop that >:(

:(
so sad

kos
@Tim That's what I do to start applications too, the problem is when you have 10 applications opened and you want to switch between them. Personally (but it might be personal) I prefer just directly clicking over what I'm after than switching between them using a keystroke

Tim
I have a W10 Virtualbox for schoolwork, but I have no key so i can't change the colours.
@kos ahh i see what you mean. I will Alt+Tab then click sometimes...
Guess what the default colour is?
Lime Green:

kos
Yep, exactly what I'm talking about :)

Tim
12:06 AM

kos
Nice. They did a good job with the UI in Windows 10 though.

Tim
@kos they did... I wantssssss
Mum won't buy it and £99 is not cheap...

XFCE with panels

kos
@Terrance I've tried XFCE in Debian. I like how fast it was

12:13 AM
@Tim download a Windows 7 Pro ISO, get a key for $45 and upgrade to Windows 10 Pro

@kos Uses less resources and is highly configurable. I do miss the dash though from it.

kos
@Tim Hah, alright! You've got a point. But still I have to press Alt+Tab!

Tim
@kos yeah :P what effort!

kos
When you're pathologically lazy, it is :D
@Terrance Me too. I didn't keep using it because it was a little too minimal. But I liked the lightness

@kos I can agree with that. =) I am still using it now though because I messed up my GNOME DE somehow. And I never did care for Unity.

Tim
12:19 AM
@Zacharee1 I'm in the UK... I can get W10 for 99.99, W8.1 for 108.99 and can't find W7 anywhere.
Oh wait, Windows 8.1 for 99.97 not 99.99 so 2p cheaper!

kos
@Terrance Yep, in the end GNOME is probably the most estetically pleasing I've tried (I also liked Cinnamon). One thing I've seen only in Unity is the workspace disposition, which I kinda like

Tim
Well if i don't mind a non microsoft one, yeh
@kos I like KDE. not enough for my main one but nice

@kos Yeah, Cinnamon is also good! I do like the looks of that one as well. I haven't used Unity for so long that I can't remember what the workspace disposition even looks like. =)

Tim
the loading mouse is hypnotic...

12:23 AM
Oh, you're not going to get one from MS anymore

heh
If you're a student dreamspark is nice

@Tim ugh. The last time I used KDE (14.04) it had a memory leak, which made it use 7GB of RAM after about 20 minutes

@Zacharee1 If you have a valid key, you can gank an ISO straight from MS

Tim
@Zacharee1 ahh yeh now I don't notice those things :P
@JourneymanGeek no lincence key here.

@Tim: ya, licence key first, don't worry about the media.

12:24 AM
@JourneymanGeek yeah, but you can't get a key from them anymore and most you find are OEM, which means they won't work there

Tim
@Terrance ^^

Why not?
OEM will work as long as you do a fresh install.

@JourneymanGeek Windows 7 is no longer being sold from MS at all

Sometimes even when you don't

Tim
@JourneymanGeek Microsoft just won't sell one.

12:25 AM
ahh ok

But you have to enter a key to even get the ISO from MS

@kos Ah yes, I remember that now. That really is nice and something they did really well in my opinion. =)

Tim
the shop link just goes to "Buy windows 10"

12:25 AM
yep

Tim
@Terrance it's like the mac ones, which I thought I couldn't live without and I can :P
I do this:

I forgot. Old job used to get windows 7 licence keys, but we had a special relationship with dell ;p

off topic: gotta make a fake FB profile and need a bunch of interests
any ideas?

and I have enough licence keys for all my systems
@Zacharee1: porn, furry....

kos
12:26 AM
@Terrance Yes, it's nice. It gives the impression of being on a way bigger screen

@JourneymanGeek -_-
That'll go over well with my Spanish teacher

kos
@Tim With your build you could probably run 7-8 (or more) KDE instances without even noticing

FLAMINGO DANCING!

flamenco?

Tim
12:27 AM

@Tim who ya watching on YT?

@Seth What was the url for the big bug hunt again?

thx!
oh...bug scruuuubbb. That's why I couldn't find it. :)

alright.. I patched the bug but somehow I ended up with an old source tree so that didn't work out.. No go until tomorrow when I can talk to a maintainer and figure out what happened.

12:29 AM
@Zacharee1: Flamingo.
FLAAAMINGO

sigh

@kos Yeah, that is a lot like the Mac one. My problem is, I don't care for the Mac OS. :P

(do not take me seriously)

@JourneymanGeek no problem there

@Zacharee1: Seriously? Depends on who you're pretending to be.

12:31 AM
OK, gotta do the driving thing. Chat later! =)

@JourneymanGeek it doesn't really matter, but it can't be too outrageous

I guess

bunch of movies, music,

Ah

Tim
12:31 AM
@Zacharee1 Tango Tek - Minecrafter from the Hermitcraft Server

@Tim thanks

Tim
I'm behind tho cos of school work so... :/

kos
@Terrance Later! o/

Tim
Bye o/

kos
@Seth I guess we won't die for a couple of days at this point :)
@Tim o/

Tim
12:33 AM
@kos :P waving to Terrance

@kos hehe, probably not xD

I see @NathanOsman lurking

<--- is suffering from the packaging blues

Tim
@Seth You're in UTC+8?
Oh -8

yeah, -8 ;)
actually -7 right now due to DST >.>

@NathanOsman how so?

The stupid thing won't build.

kos
@Tim Ah, I've read "behind cos of school work", so made 1+1 :D

src/golang.org/x/net/ipv6/syscall_linux_386.go:17: missing function body for "socketcall"

Tim
@kos nah holiday at the moment! \o/

12:36 AM
@NathanOsman You have the build-deps set right?

It builds just fine in Vivid.
I'm going to see if I can reproduce this locally with sbuild.

yeah but LP is building it now.

kos
@Tim At the end of October? What's that, All Souls' Day's long-weekend?

It failed to build.

Tim
@Seth was there any response from the dev team about the not seeing flab-ban-duation?
@kos Winter half term
So it's 1 week
ending sunday

12:40 AM
@Tim I talked with someone briefly yesterday. He wasn't sure but didn't think users can see that info (I believe there is a relevant MSE post, let me find it.) He also pointed at this for the ban ratios: meta.stackexchange.com/questions/173878/…

kos
Ah I see. We didn't have that one :|

So you were banned because 4 of 9 flags in the last week were declined.

@Seth seems like a harsh ratio
That's still 55% helpful

It's >=25%. At 45% (like you're stating) it starts becoming a big problem. Of course, if you only cast 9 flags in 7 days then it becomes much easier to get banned.

Tim
Hmm no 4/9 is reasonable tbh
I didn't realise i'd got that few that week

12:45 AM
@Tim and I can't find an MSE post about it. If you want you can make a feature request about seeing when the ban will be over.

Tim
Hmm may do

@Tim I'll upvote

Tim
yeah it's late for me, my words are only just coherent. That'll be something for the morning...

kos
On the flag thing, I see they did a little update on the UI, now you can filter flags by category and helpfulness

Tim
@kos yeah that was nice :P only found out because of a ban... :P
but eeh

Tim

Q: I don't know how long I'm flag banned for, and that would be useful to know

TimIt would be nice if I knew the time I'm banned for - a range of tomorrow - 7 days isn't a very narrow time frame. Could we be able to see the same "time remaining" than mods can on our flagged page (i.e. can this be made public or user viewable)?

Sorry: "that* mods can"

@Seth regarding that package error - it builds in Trusty for amd64 but not i386. Everything else is 100% identical.
This is absolutely baffling.

Tim
1:15 AM
@Zacharee1 said it was too late
:P

@chaskes I cannot. The one I have is actually not working RN

@RPiAwesomeness Ok. Thanks. If you look into it more later, try to remember to pass on recommendations or info. :)

[ SmokeDetector ] Pattern-matching website in body: Intrigued, I decided to order a bottle by user466217 on askubuntu.com

@Mateo you made me smile hard with "a shameless tshirt pull"

Hrm. Build succeeds on a clean server when I pull from golang.org but fails when I use the stuff I was pushing to the PPA.
Some subtle trickery is going on behind the scenes here...

You'll sort it out I'm sure.

I'll either sort it out or pull it out (my hair, that is).

Well, I've got a day of time tomorrow to go super-saiyan before I have my post exit exit interview.
Speaking of, I better get some sleep... so I can perform and come out of the gate like a damn rockstar on the phone call.

1:41 AM
@hbdgaf Goodnight.
(I'm doing George's job for the time being.)

edited, but i did need a nap

@hbdgaf haha, yeah

do I have to accept the pull for it to be valid, or do you get a tshirt either way?

hmm, don't know... I do know that that the repository has to exist still - the one i sent to rpi disappeared
well, night. I'm off to bed too

kk

1:56 AM
Morning :)

Hi, @Ravan, @hbdgaf
Who can help me?

hmm, anyone have any idea how one would compile OpenWatcom makefiles?
err, I mean a project that uses the OpenWatcom compilation system.

@Seth o/
@xiaodongjie hello, help?

\o @Ravan

@seth If you really don't mind I will ask one question

2:06 AM
yes, @Ravan

ARGH. I can't figure out what debuilder is doing differently than me. When I run each command by hand, it builds. When debuilder tries, it fails.

There are Issues of Ubuntu.
Who bought them? Please help me can read them
There are some mags of Ubuntu at ubuntu-user.com/Magazine, If you bought them, please help me can see them. I could not buy the mags because my country have not paypal.

@Ravan go for it.

sorry, just curious, what's your age--yesterday I read meta posts related to mods election 2014.

I prefer to keep my age private :)
how does it relate to what you were reading though?

2:20 AM
@xiaodongjie sure, if I got I will help you--not sure how far I can help you

ah, that one.

@Seth ok ignore
@Seth I saw a comment under your nomination

The comment he was replying to was deleted (I don't know why).
I don't remember what it said. I think he was asking what my age was? I don't recall.

oh :)

2:35 AM
@Lucio Still around tonight?

2:45 AM
^ It's basically a game where you program a dude to complete tasks, kinda like turtle graphics
Kinda fun to watch

3:18 AM
@RPiAwesomeness do you have any open issues on your repositories?
:P

@NathanOsman If you're looking for PRs consider taking a look at Unity Tweak Tool's bugs on launchpad. They prefer PRs on Github, but use LP for bug tracking. All python+GTK.
(that's where one of my PRs came from)

Oh, okay.
Thanks for the idea.

I have some more somewhere if you're interested.

Sure.

If you want to do web dev tox.chat is looking for contributors. The other one I remember off the top of my head is writing a vim colourscheme (from an atom/sublime one): github.com/paradox41/material-color-scheme/issues/15 (this post on SO would come in handy here stackoverflow.com/questions/4396647/…)
I remember looking at a few more, but can't find them this instant.
Oh here's one: Visual click indicators for silentcast: github.com/colinkeenan/silentcast/issues/13. I've no idea how you would do that or if it is even possible though..
and hbdgaf's game (python) has a trello board: github.com/aking1012/fisticuffs I'm sure he wouldn't mind a PR ;)
and fossfreedom's indicator-sysmonitor has some enhancements that I looked at: github.com/fossfreedom/indicator-sysmonitor/issues (python + appindicator)

3:35 AM
I'm sure he wouldn't either :)
Really, he maintains that package?

I really went overboard on this, you can tell xD

Thanks for the ideas.

Q: Citrix Receiver on Ubuntu crashes and I cannot kill it, have to hard reboot

RichUsing latest Ubuntu LTS and Citrix Receiver icaclient 13.2.1.328635 Citrix will periodically crash and there is no way for me to force the app closed. I've setup key shortcuts to the kill command, but they aren't responding. I can't alt-tab to anything else, the Citrix app is completely blockin...

@NathanOsman yup!

Cool!
Is the package named indicator-multiload?

3:38 AM
@NathanOsman np. Sorry I kinda went overboard, but I got my 4 (5 actually) and since you were looking for PRs thought maybe you could find something in the things I had looked at.
@NathanOsman I don't think so. It's in a PPA over here launchpad.net/~fossfreedom/+archive/ubuntu/indicator-sysmonitor
Looks like it's just indicator-sysmonitor.

Oh, so it's not the one I was thinking of.
But still worth looking into.

Looks like it used to be in the repos around ~11.04's days.
anyway, I'm off to bed. Have fun!

Thanks again!

@kos ohbtw, someone in IRC helped me figure out what happened to my merge request. it's fixed now code.launchpad.net/~sethj/ubuntu/wily/unity/fix-for-1445595/…
you were asking how hard it was.. I just removed 1 line xD
np Nathan. I hope it was at least some help :)
if you're interested in fixing some bugs kos the papercuts team (launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts) is a good place to start. (this bug was actually classified as a papercut). I'll probably be joining that team shortly.

1 hour later…
4:53 AM
Not sure what else you can actually help with, it's mainly stuff that I just create the issue to remind myself about it

I might take a stab at that one.
Right now I'm working on this.

And #2, but pretty certain that's a Gtk+ ug
Cool!

It needs some reorganizing, etc.
I hope the diff isn't too big :P

Morning :)

Morning :)

Hi @A.B @NathanOsman o/

5:46 AM
Nathan, regarding your script - Is there any progress to extend to other SE sites, ?

Nope, that's on hold until at least the weekend.

Morning @Ravan

6:09 AM
@RPiAwesomeness and @hbdgaf - can you both please yell at me? I just did the opposite of what I was suggesting last night (using a separate branch for pull requests). It wasn't on purpose - I had every intention of creating a branch - but I somehow forgot and ended up submitting a pull request against master. I'm very embarrassed about this :P
If I'm lucky, the original owner will merge and I can just pull from his master and pretend nothing happened :)
Otherwise, I may have created a small mess to clean up.

@NathanOsman you need more sleep :)

Part of me says "yes, I sure do" and the other part says "what is sleep?"
:P
On top of that, I specified the wrong mirror for my sbuild chroots :(

Have a break

Q: Connect to Ubuntu Server through SSH over the internet

user3640056I have a ubuntu server that I access locally through ssh, but I need to configure it to be able to access it through ssh from the internet. I connected eth1 to the internet and configured the interfaces file. I'm just lost trying to understand the concept of vpn and I followed several tutorials, ...

A: disabling secure boot - no OS works, F2 or F10 don't work

Robert StifflerSecure boot is implemented in the BIOS. Reformatting won't remove it. You need to go into the BIOS settings and find the option to disable it.

7:49 AM
@A.B. I am actually about to sleep . . . sorry . .

@Serg o/

8:22 AM
yay - gold tag badge \o/

@Takkat wow congrats

'twas hard work ;)

I guess you are fourth in AU, correct?

5th - there are 4 command-line tag badge holders already.

yeah-forgot ;)

8:37 AM
Good morning :)

@Rinzwind o/
@cl-netbox morning

@Ravan Good morning :)

@Takkat how are you doing :)

@StefanoPalazzo oh hi Stefano... very well here :)
Long time no see - how's things with you?

I'm good
Am I right in thinking you helped with pulseaudio-dlna?

8:46 AM
good to hear... yeah Massimo did a great job with this gem!
you helped him more than me, I heard... ;)

I think he took some of my stuff for the Makefile and that's about it
There was a big two page article about it in Linux User magazine

That's to be expected, as it really fills a gap in the wireless audio streaming capabilities of Linux. Now that it supports Chromecast even more.

pretty cool :)

yeah good Chrissss liked it too :)

9:37 AM
Oh, @StefanoPalazzo Do you have this ebook? Can you send me some ebooks related to use linux and Ubuntu?
Hey, everybody. Please help me, I want to get ebooks related to using and programming on Linux and or Ubuntu and or RedHat
etc

Knows anyone some about Nagios?

9:49 AM
@xiaodongjie this may useful =)

user136984
Oh good, my chat's back to normal! :)

@A.B. not totally- but iirc once I tried to register my IP blocked with messages like it is spam..bla bla..

Q: Command-line breakout?

Paranoid PandaI love a good old game of breakout! Like I like kbreakout (though I prefer older styles of the game). So I was wondering if there was a command-line version of the game as I rather dislike GUIs? I am running Ubuntu GNOME 15.10 with GNOME 3.18.

user136984
:)

user136984
And why did someone give it a close vote?

@ParanoidPanda close vote says "not about ubuntu" ... maybe also what research have you actually conducted? e.g. have you looked in the software center - what results have you found. Kind of a random type question.

@fossfreedom hello

10:13 AM
\o

why sometimes if select edit option for low quality posts I will pass
but this time it failed me why?
I verified the post before reviewing and I know it was audit test ...

not sure I understand the question - that answer has been deleted so you cannot edit it.

@fossfreedom Is there any further classification in low quality posts

?? classification ??

yup
iirc I passed many audits by editing LQ posts
not sure this time--

10:19 AM
@Ravan thank you.

@Ravan - how were you going to edit the answer - it looks kind of unsalvageable to me

yes-agree
Also I know it was a test
so just I selected edit to pass--I did it many a times

there wasn't anything worth to edit on that. Probably better to use delete

agree
Again ban @fossfreedom
this is not fair
I not even failed a single audit before
after previous ban

let me look

10:27 AM
thank you

@xiaodongjie Anything in particular?

user136984
@fossfreedom: The only thing that I found was the thing I mentioned.

@StefanoPalazzo yes.

Tell me :)

user136984
@fossfreedom: Ok, I have edited my question.

user136984
10:40 AM
:)

@StefanoPalazzo for example, Related to Linux or Ubuntu.
@StefanoPalazzo and about GNU software development.

@NathanOsman I was trying to put app indicators in place of system-tray on the Camcastic-desktop program hbdgaf an I were doing a while back github.com/mateosalta/CamCastic-Desktop

@xiaodongjie Here's a huge list of free programming books: github.com/vhf/free-programming-books/blob/master/…
Hope that helps. it's big.

@StefanoPalazzo thank you, very much.

@Ravan when I doubt hit skip

11:12 AM
@Mateo I usually do -skip :)
@fossfreedom sorry, any issues in my review history?

@Ravan - you've passed dozens of audits since your last ban. So yes - very puzzling why your audit ban has increased from 2d to 7d. Can I suggest you ask this on meta.stackexchange.com i.e. "why does my audit ban increase despite passing dozens of audits since my last failure?"

mean main meta?

looks like a system issue - Stackexchange mods can investigate. No - not on Ask Ubuntu meta - this is more general - use meta.stackexchange.com

thank you
I will post

11:37 AM
@fossfreedom posted
@fossfreedom sorry, some one pointing me to ask in ubuntu meta-
oh sorry seen your comment

11:58 AM
@Ravan - shame that the Q was closed. Nothing I can do about it. I've unbanned you anyway. Thanks for all of your good work. Shame the system is a little shaky in this area.

@fossfreedom thank you :)
I will try to make the post reopen

not much you can do - you've commented but if the Meta Stack Exchange Mod doesnt agree - we cant do anything. You can cast a reopen vote if that is available to you.

no- low rep
but I will flag
thats what I can do .

12:30 PM

This sounds like an Elementary OS question given the OP posted saying "Elementary OS uses Ubuntu" which is wrong.
Please close it as offtopic
