user136984
That is an address which is emailing me spam.

@ParanoidPanda <strike>spamhaus</strike> scrap that

Clev.or

@ParanoidPanda: they don't take reports any more....
(I'm an old fart)

user136984

Q: How is the default auto-switching wallpaper in Unity made? (15.10)

Byte CommanderYou all know, when you go to System Settings > Appearance and look at the available background images, this looks like the screenshot below: The third background icon has a clock symbol on it and selecting it will cause the wallpaper to change every [?] minutes and cycle through all of the def...

user139252
@ByteCommander Just read it.

@HeatherBrown I have read it. But I would like to learn more about it than can be seen in this example. Maybe there are some more effects or fancy stuff that is not used in this file?

user139252
I don't think so...

user139252
I think it's a basic transition, that's it.

"think"!

user139252
9:18 PM
I'm a good thinker.

guys
do you know a good theme for xfce?
not a dark one

user139252
Anything coffee based?

@HeatherBrown Don't over-think it! :D

what is coffee?
( its not mint for sure :P )

user139252
@Fabby You should just not think.

9:25 PM
Having PTSD flashbacks about java and one more project due next week

user139252
I can smell it from here, when you do.

@HeatherBrown I think, but mostly with the wrong head! :P

user139252
Gross.

@HeatherBrown A dirty mind is a joy forever!
;-)

>.< Oh noooo... @Fabby pictures in my mind

9:26 PM
back to my question! do you know a pretty light theme?

@ByteCommander Yeah, and I'm only a Vorlon!

not mac-look based

@GeoMint I've got my own pretty orange SteamPunk Theme!
@ByteCommander Centaurians have 7!

user139252
brb, switching DEs

@Fabby can you tell me more about that?

9:28 PM

your DE is unity

@GeoMint I like to KISS
(Keep it Simply Stupid)

hahahahha

so: yes: Unity!

i preffer gnome :P

9:30 PM
Meh, I don't really care: Unity does the job....

yeah
:)

Care to show your current desktop?

hmm
my laptop is closed

on the phone?

no

i have 2 computers
my pc has windows and i use virtualbox ( not proud of that )

9:32 PM
@GeoMint I deleted Windows about 2 years ago...

user139252

@GeoMint The only thing I missed was a good editor, but @A.B. showed me atom... :-)

@Fabby Huh?

@HeatherBrown can i see the file explorer
yeah

@ParanoidPanda about your font problem yesterday, this works great: webupd8.org/2012/09/customize-gtk3-gtk2-theme-colors-using.html

user139252
9:33 PM
Yes?

@HeatherBrown cool! Lubuntu?

no xfce xubuntu

user139252
@Fabby Nope. 15.10 with MATE.

user139252
Yep.

9:34 PM

@Fabby yeah, i use sublime editor and atom :)

user136984
@Terrance: Ok, thanks! :)

@ByteCommander Sorry, my mistake! they have 6

9:37 PM
Just found that article too... Eew.

@HeatherBrown Have you used unity before???

<-- is not into tentacles! >:P

@HeatherBrown Should I move over to MATE? Are there any compelling features?
@ByteCommander Yeah, I'm an old fart and like my tentacles...

Yuck!

9:40 PM
/me has just forgotten his skype password :P

my gnome virtualbox

@GeoMint You use fish?

no
i use bashrc :P

@GeoMint not Russian, not Ukranian... What alphabet is that?

greek

9:41 PM
includes µ

ελληνικά

@GeoMint hahaha ok ;p

μ is a greek letter
π is also greek letter
ω is also

I didn't know the small e was too...

user139252
@Fabby I've used Unity, yeah. Not a fan.

user139252
9:42 PM
Still exploring MATE.

I knoew about µ and pi

α β γ δ ε ζ η θ ι κ λ μ ν ξ ο π ρ σ τ υ φ χ ψ ω

Eta...
off course!

η

@Fabby Cyrillic was actually derived from Greek ;P

user139252
9:42 PM
I usually do KDE, just wanted to try something new.

@Seth :D

@Seth I know! By Saint Cyrill!
Visited his grave!

bible was wrote in ancient greek :P

Cool!

(funnily: it's in Slovenia, where they don't use the Cyrillic alphabet) @Seth

9:43 PM
@GeoMint Just New Testament tho.

@GeoMint The version we use...

what?

@Fabby that is a little odd..

there were writings in Hebrew, but we don't use them any more

user139252
What?

9:44 PM
ohh ok

user139252
EW KILL IT WITH FIRE!

@GeoMint In the original Hebrew texts that survived, the Hebrew word for "Young woman" was translated to the Geek word "Virgin"

user139252

user136984
I do like this! :)

9:45 PM
@HeatherBrown you are fan of nature? :)
@ParanoidPanda "This video is not available. " in Greece

user139252
@GeoMint I like heather flowers.

haha

@HeatherBrown how's MATE ?

user139252
My wallpaper is a field of Scottish heather buds about to blossom.

user139252
@Serg It's okay, so far.

user139252
9:46 PM
Seems quick, easy to navigate

@HeatherBrown How are the keyboard short-cuts?

Tim
@GeoMint the New testament is Ancient Greek, the old is Arabic and Ancient Hebrew.

its gnome2
@Tim ok

Tim
Although I read it in English :P

@Tim There are surviving texts in +Hebrew of some of the apostles...

9:47 PM
i read it in ancient and modern greek

Tim
@Fabby yes, tho not many. And there's the Torah of course.

(though most got burnt in after the Diocese???

user139252
@Fabby All I know is CTRL-ALT-T for terminal.

(lemme look that up)

user139252
ALT-TAB works

user139252
9:48 PM
There's no window spread with the super key like in GNOME, though.

@HeatherBrown ALT+F2 for run box?

user139252
@Terrance Yep.

I'm feeling discouraged. It seems both Windows and Ubuntu have neglected desktop users in favor of "convergence". The only big platform pouring effort into making a usable desktop environment is - wait for it - Apple.

@HeatherBrown Sweet! =)

@GeoMint You do know that the Greeks invented everything worth inventing, right???

9:49 PM
;D

like Democracy, orgies, Lego, atoms,

@Fabby They didn't invent gunpowder though.

hahaha

user139252
ALT-F5 oddly resizes your current window

Tim
@HeatherBrown Yeah, Super + W

9:49 PM
@NathanOsman that wasn't worth inventing...
:D

Paper?
The printing press?
Transistors?

user139252
ALT-F8 turns your cursor into a window resizer.

do you know that they used to see the stars and know what comes in the few days after?

@NathanOsman the Egyptians did that one...

user139252
@Tim Super + W doesn't work for me.

9:50 PM
@Fabby exactly my point.

i can not really see the stars :P in city there so many lights

Tim
@NathanOsman I have to agree - I use OSX when I can and it is the nicest. I like how it does what you want a Desktop to do, but also has the iOS features I like

printing press: babylonians... (suspected lost technology)

Tim
@HeatherBrown oh

@NathanOsman You also forgot to mention wheel and AC generators

Tim
9:50 PM
oh you said mate didn't you? my bad
The babylonians had a base 60 system...

user136984
Goodnight! :)

@Tim yeah, that's why we're still with 60 seconds and minutes!

I'm not saying there weren't some clever Greeks.

@ParanoidPanda Pumpkin! ;-)

I'm just saying that they don't hold the monopoly on intelligence.

user139252
9:51 PM
You can use CTRL-ALT-ARROW KEYS to change workspaces

@NathanOsman The only thing the Romans invented was cement...

(and partially hardened iron)

@Terrance thats beautiful

@HeatherBrown could I shamelessly suggest you my script for changing the number of workspaces ?

9:52 PM
oh! and Triplex! (oof course)

my wallpaper
http://i.imgur.com/kFKYXn2.png

@GeoMint =)

@Terrance @HeatherBrown's going to like that one!

I never thought I'd say this either, but Edge is more stable than Chrome it seems.

@NathanOsman :D
FF stability has gone down the chutes lately.

9:54 PM
@NathanOsman That might be true, but Chrome supports way more than Edge.

I wouldn't say way more.
Edge is pretty good at following current standards.

OK, you can have that

@Terrance Just wait a few months...
It's the de facto standard... (nowadays)

Chrome does U2F and Edge is the only other browser to announce plans for it.

Tim
I use Chrome. I wonder about edge but it had the ie logo which makes me want to vomit...

9:55 PM
@Tim That was my biggest complaint about it.

user139252
@Serg Sure

Tim
Do you think in 5 years time developers will be saying "this works, but if you want it to work on edge..."

user139252
@Fabby @Terrance I am so tempted to replace my wall paper with that...

@Tim fat chance!

@Tim I doubt it.
Edge has been keeping up quite well.

9:56 PM
@HeatherBrown I'm still on Trusty Tahr, otherwise I would...

They dumped something like 300,000 lines of code from IE.

@NathanOsman Are you actually saying that Microsoft is doing good? :P

So lots of legacy code is gone.
@Terrance Yes, I am.

Tim
Hmm okay :P

@HeatherBrown askubuntu.com/a/676116/295286 There you go ^_^ Eh . . .not much of self promotion though, as Jacob's python still wins

9:57 PM
@Tim Remember, Edge is not Internet Explorer.
They are two separate products.

wow, i just realize that CentOS give 7GB .iso file :P isoredirect.centos.org/centos/7/isos/x86_64/…

Tim
@NathanOsman but they gave it the same logo???

No, it's different.

IE and E are still Es

all two based on .NET

Q: SystemTap simple demo fails - Ubuntu 14.04

SHCStarted learning SystemTap using RedHat's manual. Here is the example I'm trying to run. While executing stap open.stp I got the error: [root@ror6ax ~]# stap open.stp semantic error: while resolving probe point: identifier 'syscall' at open.stp:1:7 source: probe syscall.open ...

@GeoMint :D CentOS-everything

yeah

Tim
well :P

@GeoMint Internet Explorer was never based on .Net.

Tim
9:59 PM
I have to say, W10 runs better than I expected

@Fabby i will download the minimal :P my internet download is 400KB/s

Mine is 128 KB/s.

My dad calls his FF "The Internet Explorer"

I learned last night that my motherboard supports HPET, so I enabled that in Windows 10, and it seems quicker and much more stable.
