@jrg Not sure it is - they're using a fairly hefty PS1 variable so it's probably just an error in that

Generally speaking, yes, but only if it's a problem (eg a billion comments about kittens)
I wouldn't bother doing anything with a single comment about kittens.

Yeah you can flag up that stuff. I like to leave the friendly from-OP "thank you!" messages because it shows the outside world that we're not robots... But expansion requests and their acknowledgements can die.

Q: How do I configure lightdm to work with XDMCP?

xminerDoes anyone have a set up to make xdmpc work with lightdm on 11.10. Using xdmpc+gdm was easy as pie, worked great. After the upgrade to 11.10 with the switch to lightdm I can't figure out how to get it to work. Where is the documentation that explains the custome.conf file? Any help appreciated....

woo, the lightdm author is now on AU!

MatikAfter upgrading to oneiric I want to tweak some unity settings, but changing anything with CompizConfig Settings Manager has no effect. I tried to relogin or reboot but it didn't help. In natty I used only gnome (unity didn't started because of a driver issue). Also, when I first started ccsm,...

@jrg Some ppl are having the same issue as you are with your usb drive, one of the suggestions was to remove deja-dup and reinstall: bugs.launchpad.net/deja-dup/+bug/786487
09:29
a few non-ubuntu users have said the same thing to me... That ubuntu has come on a lot, and now it's a stable and usable (and pretty) operating system. But it could never be adopted by business because it doesn't have a real office suite. This is not my opinion, but about 5 independent people have told me that's their opinion...
yes, they are aware of libreoffice, so what is my comeback?
And what's their issues with LO?
We'd love feedback.
most have issues with the ui - user unfriendly experience, but one person said that they love the look and feel of ubuntu, how everything is consistent apart from the office suite which looks and acts like it was made in 1997
and... I do tend to agree :(
Well yeah, due OOo issues with slow uptake of contributions.
With LO, hpefully we'll see them taken care of pretty soon, in the near future.
@Oxwivi I hope to see that - I do agree that it is the one part of ubuntu that lacks quality and brings the whole experience down
But as it stands LO is still the best and most featureful office suite that the FLOSS offers.
09:39
@Oxwivi I'd have to agree, which is bad really, because there's so much great open source software out there
I kinda like the look of KOffice
Though I never tried KOffice, I find all the Ks too flashy, personally.
@Oxwivi flashy?
Well all those colours and effects. Dunno why, but couldn't get used to 'em.

@MarcoCeppi Dandy.
@RolandTaylor Exactly I await the moment when the engine is finally decoupled from the chrome.
Firefox's wiki has a project for this, forgot it's name.
ProjectSpeedUpFirefoxRendering?
15:45
@MarcoCeppi Well there's that (not under that name), but more specifically about separating the chrome and the backend.
They need to implement that part sooner.
As far as I know, it's a lot of work, not an easily accomplished feat.
Exactly why they should tackle it sooner, and not later.
The more work required : The sooner something should be done.
