@tim The Ask Ubuntu in Spanish is now closed. Thank you for trying buddy. Will have to wait until there is an actual need for this and ways on implementing it. I was hoping your move on this would work but hey, no biggy. Next time.
@chili555 sup buddy. How is 15.04 with you in relation to broadcom.
user136984
Which IRC client do you guys recommend?
user136984
As I haven't really got into IRC in the past. But I need to now.
I use MIRC and X-Chat
MIRC is easier then
So far, so good, @Fabby. On one of my machines, I installed a mainlin 4.0 kernel and I'm still trying to work out how to get bcmwl-kernel-source to work on there.
user136984
@LuisAlvarado Easier? In what way?
20:07
@Paranoid Xchat
The "look"
all do the same thing. They change only when you want to extend their basic usability
like X-Chat which can extend a lot more
user136984
Ok, well I will try Xchat first as I always like a challenge! ;)
but basic usage is the same in all
GO PARANOID GO!
user136984
:D
"Broadcom: what doesn't kill you makes you stronger."
20:08
true
user136984
@LuisAlvarado: Can I just install it with sudo apt-get install xchat?
@LuisAlvarado Do you have a link to the area 51 proposal?
On mobile so I can't find it.
yeah give me a sec

Ask Ubuntu (in Spanish)

Proposed Q&A site for ubuntu experts, users and developers in Spanish.

Closed before being launched.

user136984
@LuisAlvarado That's sad. :(
20:09
Closed because, basically between me and a canonical QA developer here in Costa Rica, we might be the only ones interested in this that use Ubuntu
the sad thing is, I dedicated about 8 years teaching ubuntu and I know a lot that use it and promote it but none voted there.
even after receiving an email from me
You clearly didn't harass them enough :P
So hey, no problem. No forcing this on them but if they do wish to see this happen, they are the ones that need to push it to a launch state
LOL
I'm kidding, of course.
Since it's mostly latino men, the correct way would be beer and girls
or girls drinking beer maybe
LOLOL!
20:11
Uhm... that might attract the wrong crowd...
But it was a good idea by tim
well if they are drunk we can simply say HEY this is Windows 12
user136984
In xchat when it asks me for my real name, can I just put "Arthur Dent", or do I need to use my real name? ;D :P
If it helps, my real name is Clark Wayne
@LuisAlvarado or teach the girls how to code beer-brewing machines based on Ubuntu. Problem solved !
@Fabby No, I do not, unfortunately :(
20:14
sometimes even Bruce Kent
@Serg BEST IDEA EVER!!
user136984
Right, anyway, the stuff that I need to use IRC for probably should have my real name.
Hah! I was looking for this comic:
And came across this one :D
user136984
As I don't really like lying to developers I want to work with on a project.
@ParanoidPanda I recommend also registering a nickname
this way you have your own nickname without somebody else taking it
user136984
Ok.
20:19
That's a nice list of commands
And this
That's the holy grail of commands
user136984
Ok, thanks! :)
OK, gentlemen, I'm off the site for about a week - I've finals coming
o/
go Serg go
You can do it
do NOT come back if you don't ace that finals
O.o
Good luck, @Serg!
20:30
@LuisAlvarado \o
@Rinzwind Hi... NEMESIS!!
Another year, another race
Ha! You admit your defeat?
Thank you guys. @LuisAlvarado I sure will come back, fail or not, cuz I luuuuv this site O_O
Good now where is my million dollars?
user136984
@LuisAlvarado Out of interest, why does that page appear to be downloading something according to this report?
@Serg do not let me catch you dry******* AU
@ParanoidPanda appears clean for me
anything I can add to this answer: askubuntu.com/questions/620271/… D: I am on a roll anyways so might make it 100%
user136984
@LuisAlvarado Yes, but why was it downloading something in the first place?
no idea
maybe they got IRC hacked
or XSS hacked
or hacked
or crazy
20:33
or their admin is drunk clicking random chars on his keyboard
user136984
Well, anyway, it only appears to be downloading the HTML page that it came from.
user136984
Anyway, where would you file have downloaded to?
user136984
Somewhere in my browser, or could it be anywhere on my system?
I would guess to the Download folder, Cookie place for the browser ~/.cache folder or something like that
user136984
20:36
I have emptied my browser's cache, so should that have removed it because it did not go to my downloads?
damn Barcelona D:
kos
kos
Guys do you think it's possible to sort out this using awk? If that's the reason why I finally start learning about it, I don't want to do it for nothing >:)
are you using firefox/chrome?
user136984
@LuisAlvarado Firefox
@kos you can always sort things out with awk. If you can't you are the problem, not awk :DDDD
20:37
then you are fine
you could go and check for extensions
just in case
see the extension list in your firefox
kos
kos
@Rinzwind That's what I've been told, ok I know who to come back to if I lose an hour for nothing (either you or myself >:))
user136984
@LuisAlvarado Is that just in the normal add-ons section: about:addons ?
@kos I always google for awk examples >:D I can't get regexes into my head either
user136984
Or is there another special list like with Chrome?
kos
kos
@Rinzwind Regexes are fine, the problem there (for me) is to get my way through records and fields, but well, let's try this again (if you have any suggestion is very welcome :D)
20:41
I tend to use an interpreter (python for instance0
juist code my way through the lines
user136984
Right, yes, that is where I went.
user136984
And nothing seems to have changed.
there you can see your extensions and also the addons
perfect then close firefox, open it
done
I feel you are a bit paranoid @ParanoidPanda
kos
kos
@Rinzwind Yes, sounds like in those complicate cases it's actually better, altough I don't like it. In fact the only answer given as for now is python-based
20:43
Like a paranoid panda or something
user136984
:D
@LuisAlvarado he is! look at all his au topics about rootkits
user136984
@LuisAlvarado Yeah, I didn't used to be called that, but people started calling me that all the time because of my adoration of Pandas, and my paranoia, so I decided to change my user name to Paranoid Panda! ;D :P
it wasn't me who did that!
ok guys take care
see you soon
user136984
20:51
:)
21:26
@chili555 Woohoo! Ahead of the curve! ;-)
@RPiAwesomeness Oh, I thought you did (as you liked kittens so much!)

Q: Unarchiving a downloaded tarball with Ansible

Jean-PierreI'm trying to get WordPress downloaded and installed via Ansible and I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong here. First I download via the get_url module then I attempt to use the unarchive module to move the source to my synced folder. roles/wordpress/default wp_debug: true wp_version...

@LuisAlvarado It's sad that they closed it, but at least they are willing to come back to it once they're ready for Spanish support!
\o @blade19899
@Seth 0/ Waddup!
just testing out python, and thought to post something here...
> "programmers lie frequently about being math geniuses when they really aren’t. If they were math geniuses, they would be doing math, not writing ads and social network games to steal people’s money." Learn Python The Hard Way, Page 20
@blade19899 just got home. Got some work to do then I'll be writing some python too, actually!
@blade19899 hah
So how's it going?
@Seth Pretty good... Haven't been at it for that long. Had to make dinner...
For me thats walking around the kitchen for an hour, thinking about what to make and then actually making dinner...
21:44
haha
@Seth I am trying to learn how to write Python, because I want to create a better Software Center.
@blade19899 really? That's a neat idea.
The software center is pretty bad.
I just use the command-line for 99% of the stuff I want.
@Seth It's epically bad. Its not at par with the rest of Ubuntu
@Seth Me too!
Have you tried the lubuntu-software-center?
I'm not sure how much difference there is..
> sudo apt-get install lubuntu-software-center
Going to
One of the things I want to implement is not just installing from launchpad, but also adding GitHub as a repository for source code.
21:52
@ParanoidPanda It's just a field.. Leave it empty.
And whit contained compiling of the software.
@blade19899 That'd be neat, although you might have to build the stuff from GH>
@blade19899 But then you're dealing with an untold number of different build systems...
user136984
@Seth Ok
user136984
Thanks!
user136984
21:53
:)
Makefiles, CMake, qmake, Scons, Python, etc.
@NathanOsman Thats why contained.... Build an environment specifically for compiling
@NathanOsman I know, there will be a build script for programming languages...
For people that want the latest 0 A.D., Firefox, or whatever else there is on GitHub.
Also an idea, I don't know if GitHub has this, but only display verified code? As in this is the verified code for firefox, by the verified company Mozilla?
Yes, but each project will likely need different flags set. And there's no standardized format for shared library dependencies on GitHub.
@NathanOsman Thats a problem for the future. Going to learn python first, get it up and running, and then test out how many repos I can feed it. svn, launchpad, GitHub. Or a direct link to a particular software!
@Seth the Lubuntu Software Center doesn't seem to be much better.
:/
