@Toroidal Done!

user136984
@Fabby Thanks!

user136984
Luckily I haven't done any bank transactions recently.

user136984
:)

user136984
@Fabby So what exactly could those files that were detected be?

@Toroidal I guessed so, or I would have responded here first!

9:10 PM
love this: blog.ninjablocks.com "Currently Windows is not supported as a Ninja Sphere development environment in part because the Windows build of boot2docker doesn’t ship a native docker CLI for Windows."
so @NathanOsman I totally ordered that snappy ninjasphere thing

cool!
@Mateo So I talked to a relative who uses Fedora and you were right, Fedora won't touch it because of legal issues.
I had to add RPM Fusion's Free repo to the system and then yum found it just fine.

ubuntu is like "if you want sure it's in the 'universe' or ppa, or something, or script that downloads and does it for you"

huh, yep. Just noticed that avconv is in universe.

Q: How does exactly the "not constructive" flag on comments affect posters?

kosSometimes I flag comments which really don't add anything useful to the post, like "Next time backup your data!" because altough the suggestion given might be valid, they usually do nothing to help the user solving its problem. But now I fear that this might penalize the poster too much. How doe...

wat.
Fedora has case sensitive package names o_O

9:18 PM
so will be a month or so before it ships
@Seth haha, fun.
no, I really wanted "AvCoNv"...
although that might get interesting if the lowercase version of a popular software was available and then used by a new app...

jrg
@Seth BECAUSE YUMMMMMMMMMMMMM
no seriously idk

13 mins ago, by Seth
@Mateo So I talked to a relative who uses Fedora and you were right, Fedora won't touch it because of legal issues.

jrg
Yeah, legal issues
makes sense

ugh my vm crashed
and I was just using the live session.
/fail

9:41 PM
@Mateo: cool!
Yeah, I managed to get my brother excited about home automation.
Now I just need to get the rest of the family on board :)

user136984
@Fabby: You said that you used rkhunter didn't you? Could you have a look at my question here please: :)

user136984

Q: rkhunter empty and missing log file scans skipped

ToroidalI have noticed that when scanning my machine with: sudo rkhunter --checkall --sk That part of the output in the log file is: [21:50:51] Checking for missing log files [ Skipped ] [21:50:51] Checking for empty log files [ Skipped ] [21:50:51] [21:50:51] ...

@Toroidal I said that if I ever would use a root kit revealer under Linux, I would use rkhunter...
I think I also mentioned that you know more about rkhunther then me by now...
Reading...

user136984
Oh, ok! :D

@Toroidal No clue!

user136984
9:50 PM
Ok, I'm sure I will figure it out! :)

@NathanOsman yeah... I almost didn't get my lightswitch installed, because it needed another wire, thankfully electronics.stack exchange had all I needed to figure it out ;)

@Toroidal Figure it out yourself (look in your config files with grep --ignore-case apps szrkhunter.conf

user136984
@Fabby Ok, will do, thanks! :)

@Toroidal up yours too! ;-)

@NathanOsman if you start and find good sensors let me know, so far I just did a few lights
Although most our plugs aren't in key places... You wouldn't need the lights on after falling down the stairs...

9:56 PM
Then take a hammer/chisel to the wall and move those switches!
(hammer/chisel is better then a "disk saw" if you have to work in an existing building...)
dunno the exact word: It's a spinning disk that can cut into walls...

user136984
@Fabby :P

@Fabby A.K.A chainsaw.

No. Circular saw.
Chainsaws aren't disks. They're oblong.

I know.
I'm recommending an improvement.

I totally wouldn't use a chainsaw for that... video of using a chainsaw might be awesome, but when when we took a wall down, we always just punched a hole in it with whatever and used that as a start point for a circular saw, so we had some measure of depth control.

10:02 PM
:D:D:D

Oh, you want to keep the wall after.
Well that just changes everything.

@NathanOsman :D:D:D
that's what I was trying to imply with:
BUY THE F-ING DETECTOR FIRST!
;-)
1/ it shows wood, metal , electricity wires and LIVE ELECTRICITY wires!
I bough one for 100€: worth every cent!
(or dime or whatever!)

I'm fine. Everyone knows penguins don't conduct electricity well.

user136984
Why is it telling me that I can only ask 6 questions in 24 hours?

user136984
That's really mean... :(

10:07 PM
Part of the quality filter, I guess.

Yeah, do any of your questions get votes?

user136984
@hbdgaf Voted? You mean upvoted?

Just upvoted your last one...

@Toroidal Try again!

10:08 PM
Nm, I checked. Something like the last thirty or so have less than 3.

user136984
@Fabby Still the same error... :(

Sorry, nothing more I can do...

user136984
Actually, my questions lately have been received rather well, I have had a lot of upvotes this week, especially today and yesterday.

Just what I saw when I glanced at your questions tab. There are a lot of zero unanswered though. When we go through site cleanup I delete or improve everything that matches that criteria until the system locks me out as part of site-cleanup.

@NathanOsman is that not animated or is my browser borked?

10:13 PM
@Seth It's animated.

huh
won't animate for me.

@Seth You're borked!
Nothing to do with your browser! ;-)
What browser? FF?

now it's working.
had to restart firefox.

Just as I suspected: it's you! ;-)

I just remembered family members are streaming a show so that's probably why my internet has been sketchy.
lol and here I sit downloading a fedora iso and watching this streamed show wondering why my internet is acting up xD

user136984
10:15 PM
But if most of your questions you have asked have recently been upvoted and answered, several times why does it still block you from asking any more? And why do I actually have to wait for 24 hours to make another question, that's really mean! :( :( :(

@Seth :D :D :D

user136984
It should at least allow you to ask 20 questions, 6 is really just not enough! :(

@Toroidal Man up! (Or post your question here and I'll ask it for you... I've only ever asked 4 questions and I've answered 50% of those meself!)

SMB suddenly stopped working. It's frozen halfway through a file transfer...

@NathanOsman Server Message Block? M$ technology? And you're wondering why it froze???
Hah! ;-)

10:20 PM
There's no Microsoft stuff though - it's SMB from Ubuntu to a NAS running Debian.

user136984
@Fabby After installing nemo I want to fully replace nautilus with it (well as fully as I can). So basically is there a way to get applications like the Unity search to use nemo to open search results instead of nautilus?

user136984
Ok, thanks! :)

user136984
And goodnight to you all!

user136984
I'm off to bed now! :D

10:24 PM
@Toroidal especially look at /usr/bin/mimetype

Hello folks

You may help me find a useful site..
it is a webapp where you paste text and it creates an article with really nice fonts and fancy design
I didn't bookmark it at first :(

10:37 PM
this one isn't.
this one isn't.

@Fabby Or I can just delete both comments ;)

998 more samples and I'll get something.

@Seth Yeah, you're a mod...

@Fabby However that still isn't quite correct.. I think I'll wrote my own answer since the way it works is quite complicated.

I keep forgetting as I'm used to obnoxious mods!
@Seth :O

10:39 PM
this one isn't.

@Seth My answer deleted...
@Seth I just read your comment...
So basically I was right both times, depending on what site the OP was trying to get his/her/its data from?

o/ @Lucio - how goes it?

hi there

@Fabby right, but I think the OP is confused because he thinks he needs some "data.se" user Id.

10:54 PM
It's Pascuas week here

@Seth Reading again and editing my answer again...

@hbdgaf didn't eat any egg yet but having no labor days is cool

@Seth done!

@Lucio I forget that in some cultures easter is a big deal celebrated not by buying loads of candy, baskets, and stuff. Still - hope however it's celebrated wherever you are is totally better than that.

@Lucio You in Israel?

10:58 PM
@hbdgaf you can beat, yeah.
@Fabby it is night here, so I guess nop

It's night in Israel too! ;-)

oh cool, then maybe :D

It's night on half the planet all the time!
:P

I always thought he was south america - probably brazil. Still, I'ld really turn towards latin america not the middle east.

"Lucio" could be "Italia" too!

11:00 PM
@hbdgaf the place for this dates is Spain. They have vacations. can't get more serious than that

Romania...

Not Brazil, they speak Portuguese in Brazil, not Spanish.

Ah!

^-- this
Most Central / South American countries speak Spanish. The two exceptions I'm aware of are Brazil (Portuguese) and Haiti (French).
There may be more. Penguins aren't really all that great at geography.

Suriname : Dutch...

11:02 PM
Brazilian Portuguese - not Portuguese Portuguese. It's sort of like a mix of Portuguese and Spanish if I understand the idea properly.

ABC: Dutch

@NathanOsman that is correct

(Aruba, Bonair, Curaçao)

@hbdgaf let me find that out right now

@hbdgaf It's actually more like old Portuguese with new vocabulary added and a bit different pronunciation and a few differently spelled words...
(according to a Portuguese)

11:11 PM
Well, good to know I guess. I guess it's fair to call it actual Portuguese with loan words then.

If a Brazilian and a Portuguese want to understand each other they can easily...
Whereas with Spanish or Italian, it's more difficult...

For sure.

@hbdgaf It's worse then British and American English according to him, but not much...

That's not that bad.

Hah. Yeah, sometimes I accidentally use British words for things instead of US words for things after working with a British woman for a while.

11:16 PM
The thing is, for English you have US or UK, for Portuguese you have Bra. vs Portugal, for Italian you have Italy and nothing else. No idea what about French or others. But Spanish you have tons of dialects

Yes, Spanish as an international language is a nightmare.

^that

I think it's probably great as a second "oh shit" language, but not as an international language.

huh, I'd never thought about it like that.

I think you either born with it or deal with it.

11:18 PM
haha

@Lucio African French, Belgian French, Canadian French, French French...

Haiti french?

Actually, French is pretty standard all over the world, as there is a central governing body

I'm not sure how big of a difference there is but there's also Australian and Canadian English. maybe even New Zealand. (Some of those are obviously closer than others)
@Fabby Really? Wow.

@IonicăBizău pity that you are not around rn :-)

11:19 PM
(the Académie française)
that decides what is French and what is not!
(different from the English language: if it shows up in the OED or Webster, it's English)
word of the year 2014 in French was 'selfi'.
for selfie
@Seth Yes!

and elien for ellen degeneres

rimshot for lucio

@Lucio haha

lol

The Académie française (French pronunciation: [akademi fʁɑ̃ˈsɛz]), also called the French Academy, is the pre-eminent French learned body on matters pertaining to the French language. The Académie was officially established in 1635 by Cardinal Richelieu, the chief minister to King Louis XIII. Suppressed in 1793 during the French Revolution, it was restored in 1803 by Napoleon Bonaparte. It is the oldest of the five académies of the Institut de France. The Académie consists of forty members, known as les immortels (immortals). New members are elected by the members of the Académie itself. A...
French used to be the language of the aristocracy and diplomacy world-wide...
(until the damn revolutionaries beheaded their king)

11:24 PM
we had to learn french in hs as opposed to spanish. it was odd looking back at it a little.

the Czars of Russia and the kings of Britain used to speak better French then resp. Russian and English
(actually: all crowned heads)
Above ware just examples.
Read Hemingway or Dickens in the OV:
tons of French...
one example: tennis
30 - Love
Why "love"?
Well, it originally meant "l'oeuf" (the egg)
which looks like a 0 (zero)
and then it became bastardised into "love"
Avalanch = Avalanche
Deja-vu = Déjà-vu (already seen)
etc...

lier! Tennis players are really good lovers, that's why.

Anyway, the bottle is half empty and the glass nearly...
When the glass is empty, I'mm off to bed!
@Lucio You play tennis?

I did, old times, fair behind

I see... So you used to be a good lover and now you're not any more! :D ;-) :P

11:30 PM
that's what I've been saying all this time basically >.<

>:)
Glass empty!
Good night everyone!
Shutting down!

gnight

night @Fabby!

night peep

jrg
Night!

11:32 PM
ok, I'm going to try this fedora stuff again.

jrg
I'm in front of my desktop (well, on the same network as my desktop)

Gave up for a bit after my live VM crashed and I lost all my work.

jrg
so i can give you a hand @Seth

So what is driving the fedora fun @Seth

jrg
oh, it's only fedora 20.
that recent enough for you @Seth?
(I haven't reinstalled with Workstation 21)

11:34 PM
dunno @jrg, not that familiar with fedora.
minimum it needs to be able to run ffmpeg.
@Mateo silentcast broke and I needed to discover if it was avconv or ffmpeg or both.
and I have avconv installed so no installing ffmpeg for me.

Ah, interesting

I'm going to install Arch on my Windows 10 partition tomorrow though :D
I just need to get up the courage to boot it and remove my Visual Studio projects.
I really liked what MS was doing with it up until the last few builds :(
huh.
@jrg So is that a no go then?

11:50 PM
English question: how do you express something like "the fact that I'm good is useless because everyone knows it"

@Seth ooo, use the one with unity ;)

sorry for the selfish phrase there but is a good example :D

@Lucio I'm good and you know it?

in spanish, that'd be "esta de mas decirlo"
@Mateo nono
"It is useless to say X because."
more like that

@Mateo eh, my friend tried to install that a few months back. I heard it broke everything and he had to reinstall.
But I'll check it out again and see what's up.

11:52 PM
"It goes without saying.." <-- that sounds good

@Lucio Well, I am... If you knew I wouldn't tell you?

that works.
I'm trying to think of another way of expressing it.

@Mateo lol

Or didn't know...
Eh, Hm...

I use "that's a given" a lot. Is that similar to what you're looking for @Lucio?

11:53 PM
right!
that is a good one :)
thanks Seth

np!

@Seth anything interesting the last few rounds

@Mateo well they sorta added cortana.
That's about it.

I think my example was not good at all. Sorry for that Mateo but thanks dude :)

Ah, haven't missed anything then

11:56 PM
But they slowed it waay down and crammed even more things into that small space of task bar.
@Lucio naw I think it was fine :)

The should have moved cortana to where the win 7 search was
And just replace parts in the new start menu as needed
Instead of having a small area for cortana

agreed.
