Are they both using the exact same version from the same place?
(None of them are using the PPA?)

Desktop is using the PPA, laptop is using the .deb

Yup, that'll break.
The protocol changed recently.
(And that's precisely why I recommend against the PPA :P)

I make no guarantees about compatibility in the PPA since it's the "bleeding edge" of development.

12:01 AM
That's fine :)

I often reorganize things and make major changes before releasing the final version.

I don't have to use this, so I figured I'd YOLO it :)
Oh sweet. It has settings now :D

Yup, that landed two or three days ago :)
Now you can change the name and location where files go.

That's sweet :)
Maybe another thing you could add is the ability to copy the file's location directly. Though I could see that being a security issue...

Yeah, that could be a security issue.

12:05 AM
NitroShare doesn't run with elevated privileges does it?

It can.
But I definitely wouldn't do that if I was you.

the taskbar icon looks good :)

@Mateo: I'm using the IE VMs to test it :P

huh, "smart screen"... that is interesting is that built into ie?

@Mateo Did it get updated?

12:13 AM

Ooo. Nice
I still have the old one though :(
Maybe I need to re-log/reboot...
@NathanOsman I've discovered an issue. The nitroshare command doesn't have any flags?

Not really, no.
That's planned for a future release.

Fair enough :)

https://github.com/nitroshare/nitroshare-desktop/issues/7 wait, that's not the right one

huh, no luck on win10, it installed - should I have let it use the public network instead of private?

@Mateo It can't find the other machines?
Ah, yes.
I remember this was a problem with Windows firewall.

ubuntu can see it, but transfer fails

The newest beta (that I'm working on releasing right now) will fix this.

win can't see out

12:18 AM
It adds the appropriate exception to the Windows firewall automatically.

I'm sure you've spotted this too.

@NathanOsman ah cool

@RPiAwesomeness Good catch.

@NathanOsman I can indeed confirm that NitroShare saturates your bandwidth. Good gracious I couldn't load anything.

@RPiAwesomeness Fixed and closed already :)

12:19 AM
Sweet

@RPiAwesomeness Yeah, it uses whatever you have the best it can :)

oh, that and I can launch it multiple times ;)

I should probably add a feature to let you limit bandwidth, though that's probably not often needed on a LAN.
@Mateo Yeah, I should file a bug for that.

and if you know how to change the default tile color:

The second instance should complain about not being able to open a port.

12:21 AM

I have no idea, but I'll look into it.

Q: Transmission stopping with error permission denied

user106619I've recently installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and whenever I try to open a torrent in Transmission, it'll run for a few seconds and then stop with the message "Error:Permission denied (/home/sequoia/Downloads/"filename"). Doing ls -lh, I get drwxrwxrwx 2 sequoia sequoia 20K Mar 14 21:23 Downloads ...

4:51 AM
NitroShare 0.3.0beta2 is now out.
This is much closer to what the final version will look like. It contains the settings dialog, some improvements to the transfer code, and the installers/packages add the appropriate firewall exceptions where necessary.
The Windows installers are much smaller now (like 60-70% reduction in size).

I did not know that.

Q: Relations between Linux distributions releases and updates

user1911251I can't explain the relations between updates for every release and the release itself. Let's make an example. Ubuntu has 14.04 LTS and 14.10. Both of them are still supported, so what is the difference if I apply updates? i.e., from https://packages.ubuntu.com I can clearly see that weechat pac...

10:39 AM
@Mateo I think I only ever watched season 1. I'll probably catch up on that soon... but I'm still working overnights. It's throwing me all out of whack taking my productive hours and letting me keep the lazy daytime ones ;)
Finished wallrunning. Next up is ledge grabs. I also need to figure out how to get better information about multiple collision bodies anchored on a given character though. I'm using outside body collision start and finish instead of hit and raycasting in UE4 to make it both easier to set up and more controllable by the player.

11:06 AM
@hbdgaf Ah sweet, I kind of want to work on a side scrolled, castelvania games are my fav

@Mateo That could be fun too I guess. If you installed the pack on windows you could target mobile or html5 (from the dev branch) and I bet it would at least run well.
I'm more looking at something sort of in the mirror's edge play style. If I get it at least marginally working - it would be nice to have just as a "cool, i have an almost mirror's edge people can just slam out levels to play". I don't expect it to be competitive or anything, but it could be fun. And I needed a break from all the numbers stuff for a little bit. I still work on that about 10 hours a week, but I'm stuck in a rut on the other.
Did you see what the Square Enix guys did for april fool's?

hey guys my laptop does not boot if i set boot parameter, what to do?

Could anyone help me with a basic bash script that is giving me back a syntax error? As I am rather new to writing them, and can't seem to get this one to work.

user136984
:)

@Fabby No idea what you are talking about, except that those might be weapons... I'm a pacifist.
@Toroidal Maybe, if it is very basic...

user136984
@ByteCommander This is the script:

user136984
#!/bin/bash

echo "Have you updated the PATH variable in your .bashrc file yet? [y/n]"
read response

if [$response = "y"]; then
echo "Checkpoint passed"
$checkpoint = "t"
elif [$response = "n"]; then
echo "Please set the PATH variable in your .bashrc file before running this script."
set $checkpoint = "f"
else
echo "Please only use 'y' and 'n'."
set $checkpoint = "f"
fi

Not basic enough... :-( :P Sorry!

@ByteCommander You know anyone else here who might know? :)

@Toroidal Everyone else who is currently lurking around in this room?

user136984
@ByteCommander Ok, well I think that I will ask a question on it anyway.

Q: bash script which checks input to see if it is "y", "n" or other - not working

ToroidalI have written this bash script which is meant to check your input to see if it is y, n or something else: #!/bin/bash echo "Have you updated the PATH variable in your .bashrc file yet? [y/n]" read response if [$response = "y"]; then echo "Checkpoint passed" ...

Q: How do I prompt for input in a Linux shell script?

Myrddin EmrysI want to pause input in a shell script, and prompt the user for choices. The standard 'Yes, No, or Cancel' type question. How do I accomplish this at a typical bash prompt?

looks like that one has some good options

Q: Edit appears to be from post owner but may not be. Attempt to hijack question?

Elder GeekWhile reviewing suggested edits I came across this one. http://askubuntu.com/review/suggested-edits/389330 At first glance it looks like an edit from the original poster, but the user numbers don't match so I'm not sure. What should be done in a situation such as this?

Anyone knowing about how I could get a Windows program in Wine to recognize my USB-connected calculator?
(Sorry, this is quite urgent. I need it for school and have to pass it back tomorrow!)

usb devices are really hard in wine

I already found THAT out... :-P

@ByteCommander so A) what is the calcuator b) what is the program c) do have access to windows to copy the drivers over d) it may not work anyway...

CASIO fx-9750GII
Program: FA-124 (from CASIO)
yes, I would have an XP machine

@ByteCommander Indeed... an AR-15 is the FireFox one

4:31 PM
@Mateo Can we try in 20min or so? I have to leave shortly...

And the other one is something not on your poster... ;-)

but I don't know anything about it, so... I'm afraid I won't be much help

4:46 PM
@NathanOsman 404 Not Found (I was trying to find the Windows version) ;-)

4:56 PM
@Mateo I saw that link, but I am not sure if that can help me. I find no binaries and did never compile downloaded progs myself before. I'm afraid doing the screenshots I need from the WinXP dinosaur and copying them to my Ubuntu laptop with USB sticks is easier...

Does anyone know if there is a way to align the opposite sides of two objects (right-left, left-right, top-bottom, bottom-top) in Inkscape?
I know you can align right sides, or top sides, or bottoms, etc...

ToroidalI am running Skype version 4.3.0.37 on Ubuntu 14.10, and I know that on the Windows version there is an option to only allow direct connections to your machine through Skype for Skype contacts, which thus means that Skype resolvers cannot resolve your IP.
