Why is it necessary to add locally attached printers? http://askubuntu.com/questions/62355/why-is-it-necessary-to-add-locally-attached-printers #printing
you'd use them for different things. Django is much nicer for content-driven sites, where you have a clear model of the content. such as news-sites, blogs, forums, ...

cherrypy is more dynamic, it does much less than django. it really only abstracts HTTP, whereas django makes informed decisions about data models and things. cherrypy doesn't have templating, database abstraction, or anything like that. That means you have to do all of this yourself or use additional software (like Mako Templates, SQLAlchemy, ...)
I have a bash-script for installing Firefox which is downloaded and executed from every client workstation in the network. The script is on the server and all workstations are running Ubuntu. Now I want all workstations to have some default predefined bookmarks like company website etc.
So how c...
@Rinzwind If it's a question, probably. If it's an answer, just vote it down and leave a comment to explain (if required). I'm not keen on flags that come through just because somebody thinks something else is a better answer. That's why we can vote! If it's harmful, that's a different story - flag that right up.
I have a Samsung SCX-3201 MFP multifunction printer and after plugging it into the computer it recognises the printer part, but the scanner is not detected.
Since that I've fresh installed and did not try it again. The built-in scan application nor SANE detects it.
I did try Samsung's propriet...
@AmithKK No. If there aren't any answers it'll disappear into the ether. If there are answers (and you don't award the bounty), 50% of the bounty will be automatically assigned to the best answers.
I'm just wondering why KDE was not made the default desktop? Like the decisions and reason why GNOME was used instead. I personally feel KDE is superior to GNOME and it's partial-fork, Unity.
I'd also like to know why Kubuntu lacks the software centre, Ubuntu One, the icons and theme of Ubuntu.

Not Supported
Having checked the stable version of the SANE libraries that is included in Ubuntu from the sane-project website, the scanner in question is not yet supported.
To double check this you'll need your USB identifier that you can obtain using lsusb.
The SCX range of scanners use the ...
Unity won't run on my new Ubuntu 11.04 install (with a Nvidia GeForce GO 7400). Ubuntu classic desktop works though, I tried all different drivers provided in the repositories. Doing System->Administration->Additional_Drivers gives me a "This driver is activated but not currently in use." warning...
I'd like to make a theme from scratch for Unity.
What knowledge and information/skills are needed? Are there any tools or templates out there for something like this already? I don't have any Python experience so tools biased towards beginners are preferable.
I'm currently running Ubuntu 11.10.
My question is how can I create my own Ubuntu theme. I'm a coder (html/css/php/sql), so I think I'm capable of creating my own theme, I just need to know where/how to start.
I was hoping someone could point me to the right direction. The basic settings in the...

What is a good backup strategy to backup a Windows 7 box to a Ubuntu box that are on the same network?
The solution I am thinking would be to mount a Windows folder to Ubutnu then use rsync. But I'm new at this, so that might not be the best way to do it.
I am running Ubuntu in VirtualBox (on a Windows 7 host). Several times now, the top-level menu bar, the task bar — and seemingly every system dialog — have forgotten the out-of-the-box "Ambiance" theme they conform to when I first installed the system. Window captions still preserve the theme, bu...

The original "NCC-" designation seems to have begun in the high 1600s according to Memory Alpha, with the U.S.S. Constitution (NCC-1700) beginning the Constitution-class line, and the original Enterprise being next out of drydock.
While the ship bearing the name Enterprise has always kept the de...
As noted by many people, Windows 8's UEFI requirements might will get in the way of installing Linux (or whatever), as the replacement bootloader will also need to be signed somehow. Some systems will let you disable the signature requirement, but not all will.
Is it necessary to replace the boo...
Thats pretty much it, I would like to know were a good place to go to find a used video card that with work with multiple linux programs ,I would like it plug and play. Tight budget. I have a old emachine t3104. I've tried three so fare with little success, still freezes.
“It's almost certainly the case that some systems will ship with the option of disabling this. Equally, it's almost certainly the case that some systems won't. It's probably not worth panicking yet. But it is worth being concerned.”
And it's almost certainly the case that the guy at [insert your local equivalent of MediaMarkt or Best Buy or whatever] will not know the first thing about this
Is it possible to boot Ubuntu using the Windows bootloader? http://askubuntu.com/questions/62440/is-it-possible-to-boot-ubuntu-using-the-windows-bootloader #installation
@jrg the EU is not going to be happy with hardware that only is capable of using Windows. 2 reasons: MS holds a monopoly and only their OWN hardware can have vendor lock in (like apple does).
yes. I do not believe MS will be able to force hardware vendors to put a lock in. It's unfair competition of a monopolist. Never going to be allowed in the EU. UNLESS they make the hardware themselfs
