00:00 - 19:0019:00 - 00:00

7:03 PM
@Andrew I just watched a couple of minutes and they seem to be saying the same thing I am. That bonds can be said to contain energy, but that's just useful way of thinking about it. Yes, it takes energy to break bonds but the released atoms then adopt different conformations (usually, form new bonds) and those store less energy so the final result is that energy is released.

@terdon at like 7 min where they get into it
did you watch around 8:30

@Andrew The main point is that as I said above, energy is not tangible as such. The idea that it is 'stored' in bonds is a useful way of thinking about it. Just like the idea that it is stored in a rock I am holding up. In both cases though, it's just a metaphor really.

@terdon if the energy is not in the Bounds which we can agreed from where is the energy store?
@terdon can you sent me over to a wikipedia page on it

@Andrew That's just it, it isn't really actually stored as such. It never is. That's just a useful way of looking at it.
In thermodynamics, the Gibbs free energy (IUPAC recommended name: Gibbs energy or Gibbs function; also known as free enthalpy to distinguish it from Helmholtz free energy) is a thermodynamic potential that measures the "usefulness" or process-initiating work obtainable from a thermodynamic system at a constant temperature and pressure (isothermal, isobaric). Just as in mechanics, where potential energy is defined as capacity to do work, similarly different potentials have different meanings. The Gibbs free energy (SI units J/mol) is the maximum amount of non-expansion work that can be extracted...
If anything, it is stored in the mass of the atoms themselves. Of the electrons they donate or accept to form bonds between each other. You could think of all mass as simply stored energy.

@terdon okay... But what she said even if it is just a matafore.... Someone who gets B in that class or don't have knowage that I do.... When that class Was over I had 97% I could of gotten higher but I couldn't cure that much about reading the question fully, or got board of 20 of them. Then they would alchly believe it for real.
And she said it was a good question... And said it was store in the C. Bounds between the atoms. Yea might be a metafore but if you didn't know that or that much about physics than you have no way of knowing it. She said some other flat out wrong stuff like there are 3 states of matters and no more.... I would have ask her about it or say something about it.... Be she was readly to send me to the Panables because she was trier of me.... My fix for this is don't have science techers who
teach more than one subject.
I mean field of science.

7:30 PM
@terdon thanks again this is all working great.

@rlemon You're very welcome.

one final request would be what should I be googling (term wise) if I want to be able to show some sort of notification after this is all said and done?

@rlemon nofity-send.

thanks

just read the manpage.

7:31 PM
For example.
Depends on what kind of notification.

and don't use Java with notify (cc @Seth)

Java works fine with libnotify.

except when you want to personalize

You can also use something like pushover.net to get a notification on your phone.

7:50 PM
Should I learn Java... I want to learn a C like langage because I am coming from VB.Net?

you guys are getting fancy - I'm talking about like echo "all done!" :P
@Andrew learn c#

@rlemon but dosn't C# requird the .net framework?

you can use the mono project

yea
But I hear it is not good.... It is just junkie as Wine.

I'm not a huge fan of Java - a lot of the PLC's I've worked with expose a Java/Java-esk language to work with
so I'm just thinking of alternatives for you :P

7:54 PM
PLC means?

programmable logic controller

The huge Adavange of it... It is the huge disadavange of too.
And do you know what that is?
So is Mono Junkie?

Mono isn't perfect - but it isn't the worst.
qt-project.org is also quite fun to work with
QML is nice and easy to learn.

I try learn it before.... I don't get pointers
I tryed like 4 times and every time I get fusserated and want to screem and cry at the same time

right now I'm knee deep in js/node
it is super fun as well

7:56 PM
Programing is fun... I want to get back into it... Havn't program since 2011
since I did move to Linux and VB.Net as you know doen't work on it.
And VB is not the best langage but one of the wrost you can program in.

nahh
there is a place for any BASIC language

For ex. You need like 50 lines of code to do something... In QT c++ it only take like 7.... What I hear from people who code in both

eh, you get that with any language comparison
some languages are better at things than others.

I what to lean C++ since it is one of the best Lang. you can lean, since it is so powerful with the Qt framework...

and LoC shouldn't be all you look at. Maintainability + Readability go a long way
c++ is far from the best language
c++ is full of so many old and horrible things
it is just very powerful and is basically everywhere
(same reason Java is popular, imo)
you want a really nice language? Python is great. Go has impressed me as well.

8:01 PM
I want to build a text editor with customs themes and layout. from the system... And I want to build in a note clould that will keep all of your notes in like Mediafire, mega,...

try Python or Go
write a sample app in each and see what tickles your fancy

So I should try Python?

I say expose yourself to as many languages as you can
languages are like pies, everyone has their preference.

I want it to be corss platfrom which is Java is good in... But it is slow because of it, and Javaa have so many explots in it too...
So what one is your favorite? and what ones do you know?
Is Python like C?

atm, JavaScript is my favorite little quirky language. c# is probably my second favorite to work with. I work with c and c++ as well but avoid it :P
I've been exposed to Python, Go, RUST, and Ruby - but I haven't given them the proper time to really say if one is better than another

8:04 PM
Do you like using Java thou?

no
I've worked with Java as well
but limited to my industry so it is a biased opinion

I can make a list why Java is bad.... But not the many good things about
Would you use java if you had the option of not using it?

no

If you are a computer scientest sound like... How was the fast langage made?

fast language?

8:07 PM
first
Sorry typing faster than What i can think.

ohh the history of programming languages is interesting
I suggest you look it up
we theorized languages long before the first computer was built.

Was it ASM was the first/
Wow can you link me?

and it was a female who takes the credit (in a time where they generally didn't do things of this nature)
Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace (10 December 1815 – 27 November 1852), born Augusta Ada Byron and now commonly known as Ada Lovelace, was an English mathematician and writer chiefly known for her work on Charles Babbage's early mechanical general-purpose computer, the Analytical Engine. Her notes on the engine include what is recognised as the first algorithm intended to be carried out by a machine. Because of this, she is often described as the world's first computer programmer. Lovelace was born 10 December 1815 as the only child of the poet Lord Byron and his wife Anne Isabella Byron...
there were parts of languages (concepts of a variable, and a loop) before this even

Wow

I can't remember the name of the lady who coined them
really, it is interesting. google "the history of programming languages"

8:09 PM
Wow...
So how did they program it to recognize it though 1s and 0s??

the first computers were pure mechanical.

I am talking about elecital.

I'm not going to give you the comprehensive history of computing ;) but it will be fun for you to get lost on wikipedia looking for the information ;P

they had them in like 1000BC
Well....

the first real computers in the 40's did some cool stuff. I remember learning about it but i've all but forgotten it by now

8:12 PM
So what is the best lang. to program a texteditor...

there is no clear winner man :P
you need to figure out which ones you are comfortable in - or which ones you want to learn :P
atom.io is written in JavaScript :P iirc ST is c++
miles apart from eachother

What is atom.io?

I like it....
but why does it use a web engine?

because it can
it borrows a lot of ideas from Sublime Text, but it is written in JS
a lot of people like that

8:17 PM
JS = Javascripe?

javascript* yes

sorry I am a bad speller... I am good with spell check but that would take to long.

:P

Can you make plugins for it... And change the layout?

open source and hackable.
so yes.
what editor do you use currently?

8:19 PM
for what.

...programming

I was using VB
But now Eplise
And I know how to use Gerny for Php, and html5 but forgoten most or all of it.

VB isn't an editor :P Visual Studio?
check out Sublime Text

yea basical it was free

great editor as well.

8:21 PM
should I use Eplise

and I suggest you learn a CLI based editor as well

over Atom
CLI?

Editors are personal
try a few and see what is better for you
Command Line - like VIM or EMACS

I have try Mono before

remote work will require it

8:22 PM
And don't like it
What would

I like vim. it isn't often I find a server / pc without it - and if it doesn't have vim it at least has vi
so i'm covered (and enraged)

One thing I think my editor needs would be like how VS deal with windows like you can snap than in like half or put in center...
if you have two on left you can tab them drive it even more
let me look vim up
Nice
@rlemon could you devople extenions/plugins for Atom that could change the layout

i believe so

Okay
Humm should I just make plugins for it?
What langs do the plugins must be in?

you are young yes?
still living at home, and are in school?

8:25 PM
14

then what I suggest shouldn't really matter (for those types of questions) - you should do whatever you think is fun and what will keep your interest - you are still learning and it is important to have fun a long the way

No I want to learn it right the first way.

if you wanna make your own editor, then do that :P if you want to do it in Perl.. good luck, but do it!
:P
no you are asking the wrong questions :P
I can't tell you what will interest you, and what will feel good for you
I can tell you if you write a loop wrong :P

N o

or if your overall structure is flawed.

lol. I'm 28 - I started with my first language at ~8, I'm jealous of most people I see online who have accomplished more in 4 years than I have in ~20
but my experience tells me that as long as I'm still having fun and learning, i'm still doing it right.

Yea
Me 9
with windows Batch

qbasic for me
there was no windows :P

LOL

(there was, I just didn't have windows 3)
got 3.1 at some point - still preferred ms dos shell over 3.1

8:31 PM
You know how people screem at Win 8, that is how I feel with any Windows.

I really didn't mind '98
and 7 is nice as well

I been using Linux since 2012 and part time 2010. And knew about since 2009
What got me into it was I had a old outdated from 1999 laptop... which it couldn't run XP sp3 and goten a virus.... So I figure I would switch to Linux... Only about one distro worked and that was Puppy...
And I gotten a netbook for Xmas of 2012 and put Ubuntu on it. And I was playing around in it since 2010.... One thing that did annoy me at first was the fileSystem and Hicorty becuase I didn't understand it.
What is your story?

umm. really enjoyed star trek as a kid - wanted to make my own 'smart computer' like in the show - convinced my parents to spend $2K on a 286, snowballed from there

That is it... When I was like five I allways wanted to know how they work, and how.... And I wanted to make my own programs with differents icons.

keep in mind we're talking about the EARLY 90's
there was no internet, computers were just becoming affordable to have in your home. etc.

8:39 PM
Back them My nickname for them since I didn't know how spell or prounce anything was Ico... And I am still stock how clost it was to Icon.
Yea what video card it had in it?

wouldn't be able to tell you
wasn't into the hardware side of it until I hit HS

That look good
I want no mean thou
I want it to be meau less
@rlemon Are you there?

in and out
finishing up some stuff before I leave work

Who do you work for? Are you a spy for Microsoft?

nah, company in Canada - we make automation / process control software / hardware
SCADA stuff

8:52 PM
Does it work with Linux or only Windows?

even better. QNX
porting it to linux tho

that is good

QNX is another Unix like system. but it is a RTOS which was important before modern hardware was available
now, not so much for our application

Maybe port it to like the pirate bay for people who don't have the money for it or don't want to buy it lenuse for it... With the code! FYI I have no reason to use it thou, becuase I have everything that I need for free which the devs want on my LInux Box.
You don't see that many Linux Piraties

yea we're going to go ahead and keep it closed source :P

8:56 PM
Why?

because it is how we make our money?

Base on a bad Economic system.

mhm :P
sorry gtg
if you are more interested in what I do

When you would be back?

maybe tonight, maybe tomorrow.
gtg, o/

8:57 PM
What project do you work on?

I'm the only dev. now really :P tabs closing :P

Bye

1 hour later…
10:12 PM
@rlemon neat. I always thought you were more of a web tech guy and less of a scada/embedded guy.

Q: Review possible improvement

No TimeFor reviewing I always try to leave a comment if there needs to be improvement, expansion, etc. I have been reviewing a lot of vague (new) posts recently. I do not want to downvote a potentially "good" question/answer, because the poster is new. I don't want to flag as "un-salvageable", because...

@rlemon do you ever work with fur processing (they use large dryers similar to grain dryers)

hi

hi

I guess that you have no time to talk]
you have no time to talk.

i do sometimes not always and not when i made the handle
whats up?

11:19 PM
What handle

No Time < handle
name whatever

LOL I love your name
I just was looking at

Why are you looking at a potato chip maker?

I have no idea... I was seeing how much does it cost to buy foods in large ammounts since they uselly have you discounts... It was one if the things that show up in AZ.
since it hid the word "Healthiest"
I wounder how they do that.
There is a eazer way to make them. Do you know what that is?

It says with the microwave
I'm guessing it zaps the water out of the chip
What is an easier way to make them?

11:24 PM
Going to the store to buy a bag.
No worring about bruning the clips nor cutting your own shelf
It is a win win

You have trash then
and they aren't healthy :) that product is targeted at people who want to be healthier, but are lazy and still want to eat junk food

What do you mean... yea store bought ones are a bit saltly
buy Bake
Yea

the store bought ones are made with oils, preservatives, high fat/sodium content

I don't eat junk food like that.
Yea.

often the chips (especially baked) are constituted potatoes so it could be any scraps left over molded into a "chip"
with the scraps being boiled into a mash (losing nutrients) and becoming flavorless so needing extra fat/salt
highly processed

11:27 PM
And one bad thing about store bought fries and clips is they all have bad spots that I don't want to eat
highly processed != bad for you.
most of the things that are highly processed are bad for you but not all.

depends on if you add more to it to compensate

!= not equal.

yeah got that :)

would you call ceral highly processed?

yes, they also add nutrients, not all of which are absorbed by the body (like iron)

11:30 PM
Why not?

you could put an iron nail into a box of cereal, which has over 100% DV, but it doesn't mean you can absorb it
it is the same with vitamins, your body has trouble processing certain vitamins when they are not in a naturally digested source

Why wouldn't absorb it? Because you have enough iron aredy.
Why.. Link please

Scientific American is not a good source for science.

look at the articles cited
inside the article

11:33 PM
They have been wrong many times, it is not run by scientist.
Outdated May 17, 2007
Since it is by coco-ballantyne is she a psuedoscientist?
I need to look into it.

gimme a sec i have wife talking to me while I am trying to find it
3

You don't just site sources that A outdated maybe... And B non Scientific meaning not run by scientists. The best way is to site a papper that is shows a link what you are looking for and make sure it is not bias.
Bad articial
"...special interest in psychology."
"She also worked as a physics and math teacher..."

She also worked as biology assistant at stanford

Yea I was about to quote it

:)
Im looking for the article she is quoting

11:40 PM
But is she Bias
and I want to know how much does she know about it.

She is quoting a PhD who worked for CDC and FDA

She maybe as crazy as this guy
In South Africa, HIV/AIDS denialism had a significant, and entirely negative, impact during the presidency of Thabo Mbeki from 1999 to 2008. Mbeki criticized the scientific consensus that HIV does cause AIDS beginning shortly after his election to the presidency. In 2000, he organized a Presidential Advisory Panel regarding HIV/AIDS including several scientists who denied that HIV caused AIDS. In the following eight years of his presidency, Mbeki continued to express sympathy for HIV/AIDS denialism, and instituted policies denying antiretroviral drugs to AIDS patients. Instead of providing these...

outdated it was publish in 1961

11:46 PM
Is this the organization American Society for Nutrition Bias

1st is American Journal of Clinical Nutrition
2nd is US National Library of Medicine

You first need to make sure the paper isn't outdate than Peer preview than make sure the persion/people who was invole with the paper wasn't bias than the organization... It is not eazy to make sure it is good research.

They are both peer reviewed, scholarly, published articles from 2014

I Belief you...

From Journal of Nutrition 2014

11:50 PM
There are 'Scientific organization' who will peer preview and phished paper from scigen
That the paper doen't make any sence.

Which one?

I don't know.... But it is like one who says 9/11 was a inside job If I believe right.

The last one is saying that a higher dose of B12 from a suppliment does not increase the total amount of B12 within the blood serum

I believe you...

What University/Organization would you believe?
I can link a book books.google.com/…
but its outdated

11:55 PM
I don't know... If it is sited by good scientist that are not bais
some of the BBC scientist are not real scientist since they are bais

I don't have flash on this (on debian right now)

youtube.com/html5

I just need the transcript
