Q: Did the Twitter account Fifndhs predict the World Cup results ahead of time?

georgechalhoubThere was a feeling of exhilaration and excitement on Twitter, with the Twitter account @FifNdhs called “FIFA Corruption” seemingly having predicted the final result of the World Cup final hours ahead of time. The amazing German footballer Mario Götze scored the game’s only goal in the 113th m...

What I linked was my nearly chromeless ff install

on unity?

Naw, on windows. But what use should work on ff anywhere

10:57 AM
well, at that time, I was talking about why I don't prefer unity. though I agree FF (with its plugins) is sometimes better than chrome.
in case of vertical space savings, I prefer chrome
btw, how did you @JourneymanGeek achieve that with FF? which theme?
@hbdgaf why so?

@guntbert "Running Kubuntu 12.10 "...

@terdon "2012" so was on topic at the time, and it has a good answer

5:14 PM
@terdon, yes, that was current at the time of asking

I know, I'm just saying that's probably why it was closed.
It was not off topic then, but it is now so people voted to close it.

I think I would rather have it merged with a how to file a bug question

Dunno, remember that closing does not mean deleting. That will still be there for ever.

@terdon maybe only as a bug, we don't retroactive close eol's

Alternatively, edit the Q itself and remove any mention of the version. It's not really relevant anyway.

5:17 PM
@Mateo I have an Elementary OS installation
when I boot I chose it
it then loops back to grub

@terdon they closed it partly as "bug report" and partly "EOL" - but I wonder why it is the the reopen queue now

Ubuntu works
XP works
:( I don't know whats up

@mojo706 strange

@mojo706 Try posting as question on Unix & Linux. We'll need to know 1) your partition scheme 2) which partition has your / directory and 3) your grub.cfg file

Im frustrated
how do I know all that @Mateo

5:19 PM
Boot into Ubuntu since that works, and run sudo parted -l, that will show your partitions.
Make sure one of them contains your installed Elementary system. Then, run cat /boot/grub/grub.cfg to get your grub menu.
IMPORTANT: you should do the last part from whichever OS you installed grub from. If you installed from elementary, that's what you should use.

@terdon problem is I cannot get into elementary

Q: APT pinning or faking the version number of my own package?

0xC0000022LI'd like to create my own repository for personal use across a number of machines. Packages will be signed as usual and some of the packaged software will be the same as provided by the official Debian and Ubuntu repositories, but (usually) newer - but not always, sometimes it will be the same. ...

@mojo706 So, how did you install grub? From Ubuntu?

@terdon from elementary

DAMMIT! Will you people stop tagging questions with on U&L unless it's really specific to Ubuntu! Grrr...
6
Sorry, had to vent.
@mojo706 And after you installed grub you can no longer boot into elementary?
But you could before?

5:27 PM
Its a new Install of elementary before it used windows bootloader so I have never used this install of elementary

So grub was installed automatically by the installer? Please explain what you've done (this is why it's better to post questions than ask in chat).
Anyway, just try this: boot into Ubuntu, open a terminal and run sudo update-grub
Post the output here.
@mojo706?

yes?

Did you see my last message? Do you still have access to the Ubuntu install?

yes I will try that or may be
grub cant see my eOS install

@mojo706 The problem is almost certainly that grub is not configured correctly. Chances are that if you log into Ubuntu and reconfigure it (which is what sudo update-grub does), everything will be fine.

Q: vnstat not updating

VaindilI installed vnstat on my Ubuntu 14.04 server to track my internet usage (I have a limited monthly transfer). The database never updates, however. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, but that doesn't work. What do I need to do to get vnstat to update and be accurate?

Has anyone seen a program to check all dependencies? I did a grep of apt-cache dump, to get all the packages installed, but was wondering if there was something that looked through every dependency and dropped the duplicates

@NoTime So that you only have to download/install what you don't already have?

@Seth I was looking through someones question, because they wanted to duplicate their server. I started messing with some commands, then thought.. hmm I wonder if I could create a list from this that showed a tree of package/dependencies

A: "Cloning" a server

No TimeIf you wish to do a comparison between the two, and have a movable list you could do: dpkg --get-selections>new.txt This will take your output and send it to a text file ('new.txt'). From there you can use grep to search through. For example: grep '^linux*' new.txt Or if you just need the p...
