My favourite: A man attempting to set up his new printer called the printer's tech support complaining about the error message: "Can't find the printer." On the phone, the man said he even held the printer up in front of the screen, but the computer still couldn't find it.
database one ... I asked someone to display the data from a table by entering select * from table ... so he typed select star and sat there happy with his accomplishment but wondered why it didnt work after a while...
@fossfreedom @Rinzwind Do you have something to say to this user... The user seems to be constructive and maybe needs some advice where his ideas would get heard. I am not too aware myself in this regard, hence cannot guide him further..
@Rinzwind Hahah. I can understand them, it's the same thing I went through like 4yrs ago when I started using Linux full time. I couldn't understand what all those folders in \ were for. Too good I was bright enough not to mess them up :-)
we used to have modems here to connect to clients. At some point a co-worker made a connection and went to lunch. Client called that he did not see any activity on the modem... so my co-worker wrote a little program that did this as an endless loop: "repeat print "hi""
I already do. I 'm at a point where I can make more from my projects than from my job. The problem is that my job is eating too much of my time leaving almost none for the other projects.
@Rinzwind I code my projects from scratch using Gedit in PHP. I am both a designer (CSS) and developer (PHP MySQL). Checkout elimupoint.com for a sample of something I have done from scratch. It's not responsive though :-)
@AvinashRaj Just make sure you're really good at what you do and you have several 'stuff' under your belt. Getting a job will be easier. I got mine after just a month :-)
@mods there have been a lot of edit wars lately and they almost always include the same person... I guess you have been doing a of moderation I cannot see, so I want to be prudent. At the same time I want to speak out and ask you to revoke the edit powers of the edit warriors.
There are actually good reasons to have product-specific tags. There are some brands of laptops (notably Lenovo/ThinkPads and Dell) that have their own tools (like dellfand or tpfancontrol). Creating tags for all manufacturers is absurd of course, but some are useful. Especially things like AMD/ATI and NVIDIA
I have an hp slate 21 running android jelly bean that needs something like ubuntu on it to make it useful. I accept I need to root it and risk bricking it but it's not much use as it stands so not much lost
I have some but not a lot of computer knowledge so need detailed help
@Braiam I mean companies, specifically ATI,NVIDIA, Dell and Lenovo. All of these have specific Linux tools and I would follow both a Lenovo and a Dell tag if they existed. I am familiar with both brands and their quirks.
We don't have experts on neither of those companies has something to do with Ubuntu/Cannonical. Yes they have products that runs on Ubuntu, but those products already have their tags:
microsoft-office
adobe-acrobat
itunes
ipod
etc.
We don't need a tag that superseed all those products so and ...

Anyone have a moment to help me with an odd networking problem? I've followed instructions on several different posts on this site (and others) and I'm having a hard time figuring out what's going on at this point. It seems like a DNS problem but...well, it's being crazy.
Well, that's part of the reason why I'm not posting a full question yet. I can't figure it out. I followed everything suggested by LD James on this thread: askubuntu.com/questions/455338/… .
And at this point when I look at my Active Network Connections I see three DNS listed.
And since you are on anima & Manga and since I am from India(where comics are not thaat pronounced) may I ask you what is the difference between anime, cartoons and comic characters?
In my region, people don't know the difference between anime and regular cartoons. When they see me watching anime, or they hear about it somehow, they say that I'm watching a regular cartoon and hence I'm being childish. Sometimes, they even display sarcastic attitudes, so that giving a serious ...
So comics is just the western term for anime then??
Well, it is subjective. All depends on how we see it!!
(It seems from the other answers than the top voted one!)
@MadaraUchiha Can you temme some website from where I can read old versions of comics for free? Comics aren't available that easily here and I want to start reading them because i like them!! Any help??
And I mean the oldest when i say old! I mean like the first issue of Amazing spiderman or batman(They are the only comic superheroes i like so far!!)
NO we don't need them. In fact, we should change the name of like Microsoft-Office Tag to like Crap-Office And the iPod tag chance it to like Jail-Locked-MP3-Player Just joking... I totally agreed with you Braiam We don't need them or tags like itunes which can go under wine tag or we can creat...
Hey!!!! Dont just upvote answer!!! Do it only if they are genuine enough!!! (Ok my answers are genuine!) Dont give anyone undeserved rep and i am not here for rep!! That is secondary!!
@Andrew Also, serial upvoting is often detected and reversed. Taken to extremes, it can get you banned and it won't help the person you wanted to help.
Not to suggest edits, you need 20 I think to change them without needing approval. I can't do it here either, I only have >20 on Unix & Linux and Super User.
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04, and the cron daemon is running:
# ps ax | grep cron

but it is not executing any jobs. I was previously getting entries in /var/log/syslog such as this:

We're doing this for duplicates only to start, because it's incredibly silly not to do this. Not giving people with gold tag badges more abilities in their tags is just wasting some very valuable signal - here's why:
If you have a gold badge in your tag, you know what's been asked before, in se...
@Mateo I don't do cars. I'll get a bike and a truck if I win the lottery or something, but it's more of a "the person that writes my department's schedule doesn't schedule any coverage on her days off and lets my immediate supervisor take vacation every time there is work to be done" then rode me yesterday about not getting things done. so i'm not well. it's more psychosomatic than anything, but they earned it.
