@terdon I'm not going to search back and find the exact message to reply to, but I don't think you understand the Ubuntu release cycle. If you don't want to upgrade often you should be on the LTS release. The other releases are for more "bleeding edge" people who are going to upgrade every 6 months. You can't really compare non LTS releases to Windows release. It is true we can take the EOL rule too far sometimes (especially since the new change with 13.04)
but that's what you get when you give your users the power to close how they want ;)
i'm also SO not running the whole script. you need to highlight somehow lines that are throwing exceptions. i have no desire to have samba not from repo...
@Braiam oh, starred the wrong message. That's ok. It probably needed it anyway.
I really came in here to ask: I have seen that you have a feed in here for ubuntu questions posted on U&L. Do you also have a feed for such questions posted on SF?
@ElliotLabs i think you should probably try simple things and play with it a while. don't try to fix it in your main script. break it out and play with it. i'm so not trying to download and compile samba in a vm to answer a bash question...
@hbdgaf I have separated the mainmenu module and am trying to get to work. Fortunately the answer has been found. It turned out to be the -p and -n flags were inverted and the output var was in the wrong spot

heck. i did a BS in half a semester and an MS in one and a half... so, just test out of everything on a sideline get a free degree after that decision. if you're good at testing, you can have a couple of accredited degrees pretty quick if you're paying for it anyway.
I'm attempting to make a custom Ubuntu installer, but the ISOs that I'm generating fail to boot in VirtualBox 4.1.18.
The raw ISO (downloaded here: http://www.ubuntu.com/start-download?distro=server&bits=64&release=lts) will boot in virtualbox, but my custom ISO will not, getting stuck at the ...
Off the cuff it looks like providing kernel params 3 times, which doesn't make any sense to me. I'll have to download an ISO to check it and try bumping around the txt.cfg file to replicate the error.
People that ask questions about respins should really post their ISOs in full.
I think it was in the internetworkexpert CCIE training videos: "It's not that CCIE's don't make mistakes... as currently evidenced. It's that we troubleshoot them really fast."
Can you provide the full ISO that's giving you problems? — hbdgaf10 secs ago
I've been running into this error every time I try and update. I have unmet dependencies in my packages, but I have yet to find a way as to how to resolve them.

I need a good video converter software that can convert many video formats from one ot the other. On Windows I found Format Factory to be good. I would like its equivalent or something better on Ubuntu.
Well, the 10kers (users with more than 10,000 reputation) there's the close queue in the form of 10k-tools, but mere mortals doesn't have this tool at all. But, don't exasperate, you still can spend them using the following query. Take into account that the data is dumped weekly, so you may or ma...
