JUST POST THE THING ALREADY!
I just did.
damnit,
Am nervous
And crap gotta wake up early.
This whole "Canonical" going its own way is kinda getting on my nerves.
@blade19899 no reason to be nervous. just make actions and take consequences.
22:05
@blade19899 Here is a tip: The first intro, the part about yourself, put that in your profile bio then link to it at the end.
@Seth Wholeheartedly agreed.
@hbdgaf Next action i will take is going to bed.
@Seth good idea -_-
HALP! There is an 'I' that isn't capitalized there.
@Seth it's beginning to get on a couple of nerves for me too. there's no fixing it though. it's one of those how much is forking for good design and is worth maintaining and how much does it just create community divide.
shuts up
@hbdgaf exactly..
this question need moderation: askubuntu.com/questions/419128/…
22:07
:o
@blade19899 you don't have civic duty or electorate? :o
Where are the new mods? oh..
@kalina Am here to help. Not to win badges, just to win badges.
@blade19899 voting for other people is part of helping
Really? I'm only here to win badges.
(jk ofc)
@kalina I do vote. Just not allot :\
22:09
@Seth answer suggested via edit? that's why I rejected it...
No, he said he cleaned it up.. but I'm not sure.
@Seth that's not a clean up...
well, a lot of "cleaning" going on there...
what generates a "system report" of that style? better to dump that on pastebin or ubuntu-paste and link it in that way instead of just nuke it
22:16
night all!
night
AU is dead slow for me right now, am I alone on this?
> too long by 38 characters
just get the basic html, no css -.-
@kalina Sleep tight! and don't let the bed bugs bite :)
22:18
@blade19899 tooo long ....
@Alvar I KNOW! :(
Been busy editing forgot the comment on my posts xD
@FEichinger You've become too arqade I'm afraid.
@Seth How so?
It just seems like you're picking the candidates to pieces a bit quick..
arqade was the only place I've seen them really ask lots and lots of questions about a nomination.
Just pointing out the qualities and experience needed for a diamond.
22:30
I suppose so.
Is this an answer?

A: Link-Local Connection to Device Not Working

thinkmassiveOn the Windows machine, open a command prompt and run: netstat This will show you the IP addresses and ports of any connected devices. Verify that the device is using a 169.254.x.x address, and then follow the instructions provided by conman253.

@Seth nope. it's probably the OP using a straight-through cable on full duplex instead of a crossover if it's a direct connection between two PCs, so even the other answer is probably not correct.
Well, whether or not it's correct doesn't matter.
Whether or not it's an answer does.
which is why i flagged it that way...
And since I'm having the same problems as @Alvar now, I can't figure that out either. But from the onebox it looks like a comment instead.
the extra data was just for informational purposes.
22:34
@FEichinger It does
@FEichinger That's strange.. everything is fast on my end.
@Seth imgur is having trouble for me, too, so it's probably a hub down somewhere.
probably.
and now it's fast again O.o
And on that bomshell, its time for me to sleep, oversleep, and be late for everything :(
22:36
@FEichinger my guess is a geo-local cache-ing server that's trashing you. you're way geographically closer to each other than @Seth or myself. and it's working fine for us, but not for you.

A: How to save live log bash input to a file?

BD BearI use Adobe Captivate when I want to give out instructions. (You can create some advanced guides, when you learn how to manage the application)

good grief.
For freak sakes

You guys think he will read that :/
it's a pre-emptive explanation in case he gets hammered with downvotes. at least that's how i read it.
Why doesn't any one else wanna be a mod?
It doesn't have anything to do with not wanting to be a mod.
Some people might just want to give their nomination some thought first.
Or watch how other people horribly crash and burn for nominating early.
Or see what questions are asked so they can prepare for that.
Or pretty up their statistics first.
Or anything, really.
22:40
@FEichinger i was thinking about this a couple of months before
@FEichinger Hhmmm
or they saw what mods really do in the spam waves
@Mateo Delete them, And protect the Q/A?
@blade19899 Why does anyone wanna be a mod?
I know I'm not suitable to be a mod given my general demeanor... I think of myself as something more like a seasoned user where I know the right people to ping if something REALLY needs attention.
I can tell you that I'm not planning to run, because AU has long been off my radar. And I've recently made my stance on the issues AU faces very clear.
22:42
@falconer To contribute to Ubuntu and AU, in a positive way.
Not to mention that I very much disagree with the direction Canonical is taking, and due to the standing AU has gained (relative to the rest of the Ubuntu land) over the last year, I'm not going to support that.
@blade19899 You don't have to be a mod for that, not at all.
Wiki edits for example... ^^
@falconer I know helping out here, in any way is positive
But, sometimes i wanna be of bigger help.

Q: Is there a more touch friendly desktop environment?

user246838I have an acer aspire r7 , its a convertible laptop/tablet. I am interested in running a UI which is more like ubuntu touch. I installed the 13.10 thinking it was going to be more touch friendly, but it is not. Is there some desktop environment or window manager I can use that has a more touch ...

Good Q
now it is. ahem.
After u edit something, every thing is a good Q :)
I'd hope so..
So, @Seth, you gonna nominate?
@Seth, i would vote for ya!
@FEichinger I'm honestly not sure. It's a job I've been thinking about for a while (since the last election actually), but I'm still not sure.
22:50
For how long does a moderator elected?
until he resigns.
@Seth, try it. You don't know if you hate it, if you don't try it out first.
@Seth So, a mod can resign whenever. And remain a mod until he sees fit to resign?
@blade19899 Yes, unless really bad things happen and he is forced to resign. I'm not sure that has ever happened though.
There's a process for moderator removal.
But generally, they're elected for life.
Hhhmm...
Good night people!
22:58
@Seth I think you would be great, I think I told you to run last year once (searching chat logs)
wow, last years transcript is full of awesome stuff.
Feb 4 '13 at 20:12, by Marco Ceppi
I'm just going to abuse my mod powers for the next few weeks during the election, so all the candidates think it's awesome. Then when they get elected, they will be wrong.
LOL
@Mateo It's not lack of support that keeps me on the fence :)
The "for life" part really is a big issue this time around.
@Mateo that was when the 3 mods got into a move message fight xD
lol
back in my earlier days on the site...

oh dear me, @Seth is already talking about "Back in my day..."
@jrg Hey, so am I, and he's been here longer than I have.
But then again, I'm also a bitter old man ... cries in a corner

so, who is going in on the elections?
I still have more helpful flags than all of our current candidates combined ...
23:11
@jrg Hey, I like to think I've come a long way since then :P
@FEichinger that isn't hard :-/
jrg
jrg
@Seth dude, i'm just giving you a hard time. :P
@Seth Well, yeh ... That's kinda part of the problem.
jrg
jrg
you two should go for mod
you'd give each other a run for their money
@jrg I know you are, didn't you see the smiley?

23:12
@FEichinger fair enough
@Seth Should I be offended?
:P
@NathanOsman I don't think so :P
@jrg Frankly, I think the issues the site currently has can't be fixed by moderators.
They're two-fold: External influence giving people the wrong impression of the site before they come here, and low amount of voters generating too little traction on the site itself.
@jrg Only two positions this time.. it's going to be a hard run if you ask me.

Neither of those can be affected by moderators at all.
@Seth Just depends on who ends up running.
@FEichinger true 'nough
This guy is really good at bumping his posts..
If, half-way through, we're still stuck with ... well, less-than-desirable options, I might run just for the sake of it. But my nomination would most likely consist of "Yeh, I know this is shit and I'm pretty annoyed by this all, too, so whatever."
@Seth Well, it's a CW now.
23:32
@Braiam hm?
morning
No offence, but I don't see anyone I want to vote for in the election so far :/
you don't have to vote though :p
@ThomasW: I may not!

Q: chrt(): "failed to set pid XXX's policy" on one machine, but not others

TomI have several Linux machines, all of them running the same kernel (Ubuntu 12.04, 3.5.0-45-generic). On one of them, I am unable to use chrt at all. If I attempt to use it on a new process, I get the following error: $ sudo chrt -f 1 ls chrt: failed to set pid 0's policy: Operation not permitted...

@JourneymanGeek you don't have to, so there!
yawn
23:40
Thats besides the point. I like to exercise my suffering! I mean sufferage!
2
star because your second statement
you're exercising your suffering
that's a new one.
Oh, you're standing
I may vote for you ;p
heheh
now, if only comcast would behave
meh, back in a bit, i need to take a hot shower, i'm cold from shoveling the rest of the driveway >.<
(no seriously. I consider chat participation a nice thing, since I know who I am voting for.)
(which is what i was doing before I woke up)
indeed.
anyways, back later.
23:44
mm...
s/woke up/showed up here/
@ThomasW. comcast never behave... you need to burn them...
@Braiam: you should stand in the mod election!
I win this round!
