@Oli I didn't say he hasn't lost reputation, I'm saying he hasn't lost enough reputation - I flagged multiple posts at around +10, so he should have lost at least 500 rep, and lost about 250
OLI!
@Rinzwind O_O
its on -3 already >:) let's see how quickly Oli is today >:D
it's already gone
ha 31 seconds
I have seen 3 seconds once so that is slow

@Rinzwind Well, that is a surefire way to get your account deleted!
You guys are too fast ;p

Q: when an account got deleted?

Avinash RajWhen an askubuntu account got deleted? I know if the user does something wrong,his account got deleted.please list out the wrong things that we don't do.

Hello there!
hey Radu :)
Does someone know when will start moderator election this year?
i'm just curious :D
11:06
extrapolate the data and predict it >:)
WAIT only 240 voted?
oh and looking at the data I would say it should have already started >:D
I sow that page, but it's referring only to the last 3 years
yep, this I was thinking... it should be already started
there is no guarantee that an election is run every year. SE makes its own decision whether to run a contest.
@fossfreedom aha, this make sense, thanks for clarification
Then again we do not need more >:)
since we got @fossfreedom :=D
@Rinzwind of course :)
11:12
shucks ... you are nice - throw you a virtual cookie.
oooh I"ll have me a virtual cookie. Yummy :-)
AU seems sluggish
chat is starting to lag for a lot of people
could be an outage on the way
main page loads slow too. changing pages is slow too.
I'm not actually experiencing any issues
are you guys in mainland Europe per chance?
I am
fossy is UK iirc
11:19
@Rinzwind Well, remember we got wonderful "threats of DDoS".
could be something network level
@FEichinger we got more threats than that... just saying
naa Oli is editing tags _O-
@hbdgaf Well, yeh, but still.
lol
someone answers, gets a downvote. complains in comment.... the result: another downvote O
funny how that goes :D
11:56
ooOOOooo, Monday morning finishes in 4 minutes
@kalina And then you only have five more hours to go, yay!
4 hours 52 minutes
Almost there!
4 hours 50 minutes
If you give a status report every other minute now, I'll put you on ignore.
12:22
4 hours 36 minutes
yes, I can't math
thus, I intend to leave 2 minutes early
That's not how that works.
it is
But I'll excuse the math error anyway.
it's my game, I make the rules
@kalina I'm fairly certain it's your boss's game and rules ... :P
12:24
boss-free day

Okay, fine, you win.
k
... Wait, now we're racist.
how so?
12:30
@Braiam Place the letters after one another. Read it aloud.
People I mentioned this yesterday, but I wanted to mention this again. A while ago, we were having some spam waves, do to the distraction we didn't answer the question, that were getting spam A's. I checked my flags, and saw some of them are completely forgotten, i tried to bring attention to them, by editing them, but am not always here so other Q/A that were getting spamed in my absence may still be forgotten some where.
My suggestion is, check your flags, and try to improved some of the Q's or answer them.
Should this ^ be posted on meta? :/

@blade19899 please edit the title
it should be "due", not "do"
@kalina Done.
you're causing me severe irreversible emotional stress because I can't edit it myself! :p
now I need to find a nice spa to relax in and recover
@kalina HAHAH! my bad
@kalina Can i join? :/
phew
cute, you want to join me at a spa
no possible innuendo in that
@kalina None whatsoever. Just want to relax :)

anyone got a text editor that can load 900Mb?
gedit seems to choke on it _O-

Try it out? :/
The chat history is funny as hell here xD

@Rinzwind Yeah, I've cleared it (not sure how that'll show up at your end) but I thought it was a little odd.
if so sorry :D

No worries, I just thought I had missed something

13:24
@Rinzwind Bliss (technically a hex editor) is crazy good at editing huge files.
I am trying gVim. Was the 1st one I found
yay I got the part I needed
OK it is official. I got clients that have not so smart people working for them
13:41
this needs burning as spam
in case you all want to flag it
Huh. How can a 1 rep user join this room?
@blade19899 anyone can "join" the room
you need 20 rep to talk though
Ah. Thanks
@ThomasW. that sounded like an interesting read. so i saved it
Lol that name he used is from a senator xD
@blade19899 It's also spam so it should still be flagged
@ThomasW. First thing i did ;)
then i saved it
Ah, what a depressing love story, so hart warming and hart ranching. And also bullshit.
lol
@kalina HOLY CRAP, THAT WAS FUNNY!
14:15
@kalina 'MURICA! We don't speak no language but Inglish.
@TimPost WHY ARE YOU IN HERE?
GET OUT
*points to the door*
@kalina Because Hitler, that's why.
ahem, I mean, oh hai thur Mr Post!
Good day to you?
Oh, are you finally banning the schizophrenic guy?
@TimPost: and the swasticas?
Mr "I'm here to redeem myself" "brb logging in as hitler"
14:16
Oh nothing finally about it, we've been actively chasing these bastards out for a few days.
(Hm, Hitler and the Swastikas. Totally a band name)

it's one guy, using TOR
@kalina Reason to believe it's more than one.
@TimPost one mo
ok, it's outside of my power to find the room
checks history
@JourneymanGeek They have been seen for thousands of years as a symbol for good luck :=) I do not let 5 years of idiocy spoil my luck
14:18
@Rinzwind: its all about how you use it ;p
@JourneymanGeek sure is!
same as with names! someone like Tim Post should be a postmaster on stack
Trolls are one of those things I never understand
@TimPost room 12771
@JourneymanGeek you do not understand little, ugly green dudes?
yeah ;p
I thought they were little fleshtoned dudes with funny hair tho
14:21
well they are 1. little 2. green 3 ugly. What is not to understand?
@TimPost in particular, message 13519802
But one must understand zee motivation
@JourneymanGeek "for the lulz"
lots of people accuse me of trolling but I don't see it like that at all
I just see it as having fun without the intention of hurting anybody
whereas trolling ignores the "without the intention of hurting anybody"
if I ever actually upset anybody it bothers me quite a bit
@kalina Well fancy that
@TimPost I know, how do I always end up at the epicenter of trouble?
I swear, I had absolutely nothing to do with any of it
I was just being friendly to somebody who seemed miserable
14:24
There's also been an uptick of other kinds of abuse, some involving chat .. so I'm kind of planting myself in a few spots
@kalina It could be your perfume / deoderant .. have you tried changing brands?
oh noes, TimSpyPost
lol
@kalina: for once, its not your fault.
@JourneymanGeek hey, it's rarely completely my fault
I'M READY!

Q: Java NullPointer Exception for Sencha CMD

siskoI've been trying to solve this problem for a few weeks now and it just occured to me, I might be asking the wrong question. I am learning and developing building Sencha Touch 2 applications on my Ubuntu web server. You need an utility called Sencha CMD, which utilizes Java, to execute specific c...

14:39
@Rinzwind i had seen the questions like "how to create a bootable ubuntu disk on mac.I'm trying to create but it shows this error".I think this type of questions are solved here.
@AvinashRaj be patient and understanding on them like they would be on thou
@AvinashRaj The same question with "windows" instead of "fedora" gets closed.
@Rinzwind ok :)

and Fedora is different than Ubuntu ;-)
Hello, my name is Abdallah Ibn el Amir. Nice to meet you brothers
14:45
I got 1 brother and he is called Maurice :=)
@Rinzwind We in Islam have brothers everywhere :) Anyway I'm from Tehran, Iran. Is somebody from there as well?
@AvinashRaj where are you from?
16 hours ago, by fossfreedom
weird question - lets not try to make people uncomfortable with such direct personal questions.
@Braiam which question?
lets try to be peaceful from the beginning
is there uncomfortability in asking where someone is from?
yes
@kalina ping the right person so I know who you're talking too
14:57
for a new user you're awfully well versed in how our systems work, what is the name of your other account?
@kalina I read the faq carefully before coming here as I do in other places.
cool, nice to see somebody reads our FAQs
I don't know what you're talking about anyway
@Abdallah-اللهأكبر Netherlands :=)
@Rinzwind nice, I have a cousin living there
he's still waiting for an european identity card and passport, so he can move to the USA
he said he needs still 1 and half year of "fabrik werken"
to get it
I assume that's Factory work right?
15:02
@Abdallah-اللهأكبر yes but it is in German ;-) in Holland it would be "fabriek werk" :=)
@Rinzwind well he said that to me in a voice call, so didn't really know how to write it :)
:D :D :D
;)
arab, turkish and afghani people usually go to Holland or Germany so they can have a passport instead of trying to get a VISA
I'm thinking to do something like that, as I've a nuclear project there in USA
(I work as a nuclear engineer)
don't know if the degree here in Tehran is the same over there
but well, sorry for the long poem, I'll stop here
:)
SourceForge is getting increasingly harder to use. Now I can't even switch mirrors when one is down, it just redirects me to the 'thanks for downloading now look at more ads' page.
Trying to grab an installer for the GTK runtime for Windows so I can use BlueFish
I remember being delighted to see links to SourceForge in my results. Too bad, really.
I haven't downloaded anything from SF from long time... sad to hear that
15:14
They found something that worked and stopped building on what people like - they focused on targeting ads better instead. That's understandable, they are a business and need to make money, but now they're like this relic that you're occasionally forced to use once in a while rather than the pioneer that they were.
@TimPost it is becomming a malware site :X
That's just unfortunate.
Ah well Windows is riddled with that so SF might get even more popular :X
@AvinashRaj YOU are to blame for this

fedora so not our problem @TimPost :)
15:26
The funny part is when people email us questions. They go to the site, see that gigantic list of questions and giant ask question button, get all the way to the bottom of the page and click the contact link instead.
Half the time, they're actually good questions!
BraseroLibburn syncing cache
BraseroLibburn Writing
BraseroLibburn called brasero_job_set_dangerous
BraseroLibburn called brasero_job_set_current_action
BraseroLibburn Async SYNCHRONIZE CACHE succeeded after 0.1 seconds
BraseroLibburn Something went wrong
BraseroLibburn called brasero_job_error
BraseroLibburn finished with an error
BraseroLibburn asked to stop because of an error
nice error... "Something went wrong"
hey it is better than showing NOTHING :=)
plus the other lines explain what >:)
or should
"Async SYNCHRONIZE CACHE succeeded after 0.1 seconds" !?!?!?!!
found a solution on GENTOO forums
"Disabling libburn solves my problem. According to developers on bugzilla, this USE is not recommended...."
9 out of 10 times is it the disc that is the problem :X
@Rinzwind so... totally drop that and use jQuery, mm?
15:33
or just stop and become a professional fisher
canonical is going to nix nautilus :D

Oh dear.

@Rinzwind yeah!!

Q: Why does a disk clone using dd take up more space on the target than the source image?

Q: How to beat grub2 into submission?

zjeI have tried grub2 on different Ubuntu releases (12.04 and 13.04) on several machines and no matter what I do I can't get it to behave. It seems like a great idea (abstracting away configuration files through a CLI), but it really does not work for me. Here's a simple example: $ grub-set-defaul...

17:12
I'm sorry to be such a nuisance but I think I've come across another case of copy/paste. I've flagged it giving brief details. Let's see what happens since flagging rather than alerting the general users (or getting their opinions) seems to be the preferred way.
The answer I'm referring to has two download links to software both of which gave me a 404 which is not too surprising because the article from which I think the copying was done is from 2008.
17:40
This day is all out of sorts. Now I've managed to ruin a pot of tea. Really, a pot of tea.
I should definitely not touch anything critical for the rest of the day.

Q: CDN has been slow for the past few weeks

StijnI've been experiencing long load times on the network (over 10 seconds), caused by requests to the CDN. This has been going on for about two weeks now. $ tracert cdn.sstatic.net Tracing route to sstatic.net.cdn.cloudflare.net [190.93.247.58] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms

@Abdallah-اللهأكبر Are you seeing the same thing?
A few people wrote to us about it, but upon examining the traceroute, it was always slowing down well before the border routers at the CDN.
yes, it's still quite slow. Even from Tehran
(Iran)
I worked around this with caching and such, but don't know about other users
@Abdallah-اللهأكبر Would it be an imposition to ask you to email me a traceroute? My address is [email protected]
17:55
@TimPost one moment
Thank you kind sir :)
The good thing is you don't hit the CDN for very much (bytes or requests) once you're cache primed, but we use it to be faster, so ... it really needs to accomplish that :)
18:11
@Braiam flaged and voted
@FEichinger then why you complain?
Instead you can say "I love how it works now and do not want to change it never" :)
@Rinzwind noooooo!

@Seth fixed font* D:
Oh, yeah. Fixed font. Right.
Oh, almost forgot why I came
don't worry I got it
@Seth not really, there is an issue with the cdn. Browsing Stack Exchange is very slow, at least here in Iran

Q: Is it possible to install a linux desktop environment from a live cd?

FischerMy question is about Linux in general but lets suppose my ubuntu isn't working property, booting in tty or whatever. I have no internet connection but I have ubuntu live cd. Is it possible to reinstall the desktop environment from live cd?

I'm a nuclear engineer and work in the programming field too, so being able to workaround it for myself, but not everyone is so savvy
I'm going to do the work for them if necessary
@Lucio We need neither more mods (because we sure as hell have enough for a site this size), nor temporary mods (because that is just ridiculous and bound to cause mayhem).
We need to get the mods we already have to be more active.
As a matter of fact, we need to get the whole community more active.
We need voters, we need experts, we need active folks.
@Braiam Why do we have still?
@Seth ask @Oli... I was about to make a meta Q to remove that darn tag already...
more than half are closed or has some close votes
18:29
Is there a reason if the sites in this network are not responsive? no need?
@Abdallah-اللهأكبر There's always a reason that something isn't working right ;)
Ahh, that type of responsive.
I misunderstood.
I guess that's a question for the developers.
They have a mobile site though.
yeah, other notable sites such as Facebook follow the same line. Maybe it's because whatever device is accessing the website it still downloads the "media queries" and that's the culprit, size. Separate sites don't have this problem. Again, I'm supposing it's like that.
I wanted to ask this question on meta but maybe it's not worth the time :)
Sorry brothers, the duty calls. Will be back soon.
@Seth I like my software working left
19:16
@Rinzwind Nautilus works just fine for me.

Abdallah - الله أكبرI noticed that my reputation got from 42 to 3 on my last login, this without reason. Can somebody competent explain what happened? I also see now that the question I answered is deleted, why? Not that is such a big deal, just want to know the reason.

does the Arrow's impossibility apply here?
In social choice theory, Arrow’s impossibility theorem, the General Possibility Theorem, or Arrow’s paradox, states that, when voters have three or more distinct alternatives (options), no rank order voting system can convert the ranked preferences of individuals into a community-wide (complete and transitive) ranking while also meeting a specific set of criteria. These criteria are called unrestricted domain, non-dictatorship, Pareto efficiency, and independence of irrelevant alternatives. The theorem is often cited in discussions of election theory as it is further interpreted by the G...
