@fossfreedom Thank you! I will check that out and try it! The ubuntu forums post looks promising!
@fossfreedom No, I hadn't seen it.

@fossfreedom Botheration. It gave me the bad archive mirror error thingy...uggh
@Braiam The ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports address has no Release file. However, /ubuntu-ports/dists/saucy/ does. Do I need to enter that?

@Alvar Nice.
@Alvar Any ideas on my question: askubuntu.com/questions/396885/…
@RPiAwesomeness looked at foss freedoms comment?
If you scroll up you can see the conversation between Braiam and I on it.
@Alvar Yeah. Tried that...see my new comment.
why dont u choose united kingdom?
u can change it later anyways
and all you might get is a slower ping than usual...
00:32
@Alvar Tried that. It just gave me ports.ubuntu.com and then the error. Editing my question to include that...

Yeah. A lot.

It seems like wonderland trying to get things off of it... need to try a 64bit computer to see if that helps
It reads it fine for a min - then it disappears saying the kernel doesn't support it anymore

Interesting last name isn't it ;)
@Mateo meh... I'm voting to undelete, seems like a good question since we have the quality bans
Agreed, that and meta voting is based on agreement of implement the "feature request" no reason to delete because of downvotes
13:42
the only reason to delete a meta q is that it's completely incoherent or vandalism (complaining without a resolution path falls here)
in my eyes, it doesn't seems like a feature request... more like "why this works that way"
idk. the documentation says "we're not going to tell you". i guess they want a warning indicator or something
that's how i read it. disgruntled temp-ban user or something
@Braiam this is how i would answer it: paste.ubuntu.com/6656970
@jokerdino - did you get l4d2 while it was free? i think someone made a mod JUST for YOU ;)
13:59
O_O
14:16
So I think the voting about the silverlight tag is over here. So can a moderator/high-rep user de-synonimize the moonlight and the silverlight tag, as this option is the highest voted? Then we can retag the present questions correctly with silverlight or moonlight or both.
You need more rep than I have for that. Just wait. A mod will see it.
bear in mind though, two votes is... small. it doesn't really count as a viable reason to make a change imo. anything i did that style answer on in meta where i expected a difference has 6-10+ votes. two is you and your friend(i'm not accusing, i'm just trying to give some idea of scale).
I can't vote on a post of my own.
So that is 3 at least
But more importantly that synonym is obviusly broken, it shouldn't be left the way it is.
you know what i was trying to get across. nitpicking the numbers isn't a solution. i was trying to help you understand why they might not do it
Okay. But I guess they didn't do it simply because the vote was still going on or they just missed the whole story. Now I accepted an answer after 2 weeks, and came here to find a mod/high-rep user to draw some attention to an obvious problem. I don't think that any mod would think that keeping those 2 tag synonyms is a viable option.
It is like a bug. The real question wasn't whether to de-synonimize them, because that is obvious that it should be done, but to what to do after the 2 tags are separate.
14:35
i guess. i don't think the whole moonlight-silverlight thing is really that major. if you're in the know, you know issues with 1 == issues with the other on the linux side of the house. i mean does someone have a silverlight authoring tool for ubuntu that i am unaware of? no? it's all how to get silverlight to play on linux? that's moonlight. that's the reasoning for the opposition on your proposal i think. again, it's not relevant to me at all. just trying to help you understand
what might be going on
Moonlight was the answer for silverlight 1 or 2 years ago. If someone asks you how to get silverlight on linux you would advise him to use moonlight? A software of which development is ended 2 years ago, it is likely full of bugs and security-holes, it is not working on most of the sites which use silverlight, and it is not installable without modifying the plugin by hand.
so what's the new hotness? i just ignore sites that use silverlight.
There is pipelight which uses WINE, to allow us to use windows only plugins in linux browsers.
So we can watch even DRM silverlight and flash content from linux browsers
ahhh that's right. so why not replace moonlight with pipelight and call it a day?
That was my question about, there was a possible answer to do this, it reached the -3 score. :)
14:43
i see what you mean though. it would be easier to steer specific tags to inspecific tags. i'm not in it though. i don't want silverlight to sort of work on my box.
Yes. I don't like silver too. Unfortunately these crappy video sites which my family use like it, so it is a must. I hope silverlight dies soon. :D (In reality it is already dead for webbased apps, just some DRM guys refuse to accept this fact.)
@falconer remember that the option says "Revise all the questions with moonlight", which is a manual action taken by people. Mods only will take action when things are clear.
14:58
@Braiam that's fair too
Yes, I know. I wrote we will have to do it. (Or I will, if no-one else wants) There isn't that much questions with the moonlight tag, it's under 50. But first the de-synonymiziation (or what is the word for that) have to take place, because we/I can't retag until that.
ohh... yeah, in that case yes, for review to take place we need to do proper tagging, if the synonym is in the way then that needs to be fixed first
might also add "I volunteer to do it, but I need your help" to the question.
@hbdgaf I add it to the question, thx for the advice.
does anyone know if there's a preferred path in mainline for using avconv or gst? it seems like gst is trying to catch up, but avconv means less feature hunting.
15:24
gosh there's a lot of OT questions in the NAA queue.

Q: Is there a simple way to pursue OT question as NAA with maximum prejudice in the flag-queue?

hbdgafI started looking at the flag queue again the other day, and there seems to be a lot of this going on. Is there a way to implement a custom flag for this so we can call it how it is without violating the don't flag NAA as custom thing since it's a vastly more specific thing?

A: How do you add lines to /etc/default/grub so they're reflected in /boot/grub/grub.cfg?

XyloTo be honest, easiest way would be to backup the 2 files and each time Ubuntu updates, you run a script as root ofc: #!/bin/sh rm /boot/grub/grub && /boot/grub/grub.cfg cp /directory/grub /boot/grub/ cp /directory/grub.cfg /boot/grub/ One thing, change /directory/ to your directory to the file...
