@guntbert I'm seriously asking myself who handled that one...
@Seth awesome... now figure out why the timeout() doesn't work >:)
if I have to guess, the system overrides it and the library is being stupid and do not impose itself...

Q: how to add code with comments in it? Such as "#some comment"?

jmunschI am trying to add code to an answer and have tried using the < code> tag. But every line that has a # becomes bold. Is this a bug or am I missing something? Like this: !/usr/bin/python this script can installed to the current user account by running the following commands: sudo apt-get ins...

@Braiam Yeah, I need to figure that out.. Hmm, maybe I'll ask a question on SO.
Man, the libnotify tag on SO is... bad.
@Seth I would do GTK/Java/libnotify
between those there's the culprit
01:01
O_O
@Seth D:
libnotify had ~21 something questions, but java and gtk has more...
Guess maybe I do need to do a Q/A..
meh, my 2 more popular questions are selfanswered...
So are mine.
Hmm.
Who's second?
no one
Oli is alone in 2nd...

argg. help. I can't find this on Google. A while back I used to often create img files that were auto resizeable . They would auto expand as they were filled with data. I can not remember how I did this.
I used to make these to contain linux distros on my android tablet
I know it sounds crazy and I was shocked when I learned how to do this the first time.
but there is a way to create img files and format them in a way that their size is not fixed.
09:25
@JoshuaRobison sorry, don't know
maybe it's a qemu img thing?
I don't know what has happened to chat.askubuntu.com
no one is online? where are you @Braiam @fossfreedom
same here
this place used to be hopping
this is so frustrating because I had awesome notes on how to do this a really simple way and they are lost somehow
there is a great trick when making img files
@JoshuaRobison :-)
from what I remember ..... which is super hazy but , I didn't even have to use dd to create the img file
I think I just used touch
09:31
@JoshuaRobison you use ubuntu?
touch name.img
then I used some formatting magic to make an auto expandable file system
the file started out super small
and as it was filled or as I installed software on it, it would magically grow
I'm using elementary right now
elementaryOS
hjacking on the back of precise
been an ubuntu user since just before maverick
off and on since then
got many old machines running random crap
including tablets etc.
my powerpc runs ubuntu
xubuntu anyways
haha
hilarious
09:42
@JoshuaRobison yea xubuntu is great!
currently downloading puppy linux
i want to test it
Ive learned a little more
they are called dynamic size images
qemu looks fishy.... it may have been a qemu img file
10:30
@JoshuaRobison qcow2 can do that, as can vdi and vmdk. something you might find good reading rwmj.wordpress.com/2010/10/19/tip-making-a-disk-image-sparse
@hbdgaf, it seems that qcow2 can do it and ive been trying to make img files with qemu-img right now but having no luck
im trying to format them ext3
but that is notworking
what I had before was a legitimate .img file that my android phone could actually mount
this img file would dynamically resize as it was filled
this is so irritating
eh. i just use statically sized img resized images after resize for my tablet. phones/tablets tend to deal with fancy in unpredictable ways.
.img usually indicates raw. raw format does not support dynamic resize. some images come smaller, but when you flash them with whatever installer they auto-resize on first boot. it seems like a good idea, but it breaks thinks like some multiboot software b/c no matter what it wants the whole physical disk

Hey. Does anyone know if Xubuntu allows for window snapping?
Like, moving a window to the top makes it maximise, to the left makes it take the left side of the screen, etc etc
14:00
@Crake don't know but you can use scrot command for screenshot
@Crake Installed Puppy Linux today!
What do you mean by "scrot command for screenshot"?
@Crake open terminal and type scrot after that see your home folder
Can't one just click on "prt sc"?
yea thats also you can do but there is a risk: what, if we copy something else also? the older file gets deleted
@jrg welcome!!
On unity, when one clicks on "prt screen"
we're automatically asked to save the screenshot
14:03
@Crake no it does not happen in xfce

Q: Choose a mirror of the Ubuntu archive on Lubuntu 13.10 minimal install

anyone able to help on this? I want to get it working, but I can't seem to get past this step :(
@Braiam will try it. It doesn't need to be Lubuntu specific?
@RPiAwesomeness nope
kdoke. Trying
btw, we are trying to get rid of the installation tag :/
17:27
@Braiam Ah. Will remove it then! Will this link work? launchpad.net/ubuntu/+mirror/us.archive.ubuntu.com-archive
@RPiAwesomeness they doesn't have the ppc architecture...
> Since 7.04 Ubuntu, PowerPC downloads of Ubuntu are not available on all Ubuntu mirrors. Below you'll find links to the ISOs on the main Ubuntu server, as well as, help on finding mirrors.
this is the only mirror that has them in the US mirror.us.leaseweb.net/ubuntu-cdimage
Ah. Trying it..
Bah. Architecture not supported. Grr...
@Braiam Any clue now? This is really annoying.
@RPiAwesomeness check the wiki for other mirrors, there are 6 of them at the bottom
17:39
Ah!
bother. They only support up to 10.04...Sigh.
@Braiam Could I install 10.04 and then upgrade?
I dont think so...
botheration.
That's really annoying. Bother apple for not including USB boot in G4s...grrr.
Okay. That is very strange...Ubuntu 12.04 desktop ISO is less than Lubuntu 12.04 desktop ISO. Whaaat??

I'm about to panic here.... can I get help in this chat? I have an LVM issue and don't want to screw up and lose data
I'd ask on the forum but I can't get an account. I'd ask in askubuntu but I don't know how to even formulate a question.... I need troubleshooting to get that far!
@pacificfils smells of a bug - probably a compiz bug with your graphics card. You should add details of your graphics card & driver. Also add the kernel you are using - for example the latest HWE kernel 3.8 could help here.
@RPiAwesomeness why do you need a mirror - can't you just use the "MainServer" ?
22:20
where that has been all my life ^?
@fossfreedom the mainserver doesn't store the ppc architecture ;)
@Braiam weird - wonder why?
oh I see - powerpc is a community effort - nothing to do with canonical.
I presume @RPiAwesomeness has already seen this where ports.ubuntu.com is the correct choice for lubuntu? ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1912207
