I have seen a problem on AskUbuntu. Many times, people forget to mark an answer as accepted, even if its the only one and it does work. Is there a way to add a seven-day reminder like "Mark an answer in [this question] as accepted!" Maybe an inbox notification:
Hey! You forgot to mark an answer!...
@FrankSlezak The problem is the AU gets maybe three questions every day (I don't know exactly how many) of the type "I have device xyz. How do I install Ubuntu Touch on my device?" Multiply this by several months and you have a tsunami of duplicates. There was a long thread at AU meta about what to do about questions like this. I'll give you the link if you want to read it.
I just read the comment "Ubuntu Phones is in development, so it is off-topic here at Ask Ubuntu. We do not support Beta/Alpha/Development versions."
Are questions welcome regarding Ubuntu Touch only after it has been introduced officially?
I have seen a few questions referrring to this topic:
...
@FrankSlezak I have also bookmarked Danielle's question... btw questions about a development release of Ubuntu are normally off topic at AU too. There is a lot of exciting development being done for Ubuntu 14.04 (TRIM support by default, web browser support for CUDA GPUs, etc.) and all that stuff is normally off topic until the release date too.
I've actually got things working fairly .... decently... but I'm not happy with the quality and would like to hear what more experienced users are doing with their setup
I have a Lenovo Laptop with Ubuntu 13.10 running and would like to connect it to the TV via HDMI. In the dual-boot Windows, I just have to connect the HDMI cable and the screen is displayed on the TV.
How to do that in Ubuntu 13.10? When I connect the HDMI cable nothing happens, and the command...
@Andrew you may be able to do this by creating a combined sink from remapped mono sinks where each sink is the L or R channel of your corresponding speakers. These are the PA modules you need to do this: module-remap-sink and module-combine-sink.
His profile mentions that he joined Ask Ubuntu about 17 days ago:
Even the New Users tab mention that he joined about 17 days ago:
However
His activity tab shows that he has been active for much beyond 17 days. And, the first thing he did on Ask Ubuntu was to ask this question on 5th June ...
I want to upgrade my current O.S. Ubuntu 13.04 to Ubuntu 13.10. For that purpose I created bootable usb stick using unetbootin. When the laptop boots, it boots from the usb. Now after a few steps there comes options as how to install. Please see the attachment. It may not be much clear but it wil...
yep. it's essentially a pcie bridge to something that looks like a usb port...so you pretend to be the right device (that uses unrestricted DMA and has a driver OOTB) then dump or write mac memory at will
on a less nefarious note, one of those ports could be really useful for someone wanting to do gpu processing on a brick that attaches to a laptop
@Aditya what was the purpose of your Meta? If you wanted to infer something - ping a mod and we can talk in private. No need to pose such a questionable personal Q
working... so not so much. still, we'll see. last time i tried to connect work and fun it took the fun out of it not the work out of it. probably better this way anyway.
Got my aunts old iBook G4 for christmas, using OS X right now whilst I await the download of Lubuntu 12.04. Uggh, screw Apple and their drat-blasted $50 upgrade. I want some software, but it requires at least 10.5. Thank God for Ubuntu!
@hbdgaf :) That must really stink. You got Christmas off, right?
i worked 2200 last night to 0700 this morning. walking dead at the moment, but i have to stay up so i sleep to a time that is conducive to me showing up at work on time tomorrow at 0700. and the discount doesn't apply to anything already on clearance...
@fossfreedom the releasing l4d2 on steam for free could have been an awesome linux launch goodie. think about people that dual boot and use it both places. hear it gets way better frame-rates on the linux side of the house.
we will soon see. the new but less beefy laptop runs intel, but i have an older hp dv7 that has a relatively beefy nvidia integrated card for a lappie.
i believe you're thinking steamOS though...not steam the app
we'll run on anything, but this is the junk we support - type of thing
OMG! Why does OS X/Microsoft Office for Mac have to be such a turd-brain?!? I've clicked on the update button three times now and it keeps coming back to the same. screen.
I give up... Please just finish downloading Lubuntu already :(

I just installed a fresh Ubuntu 13.10 and observed the following behavior: My desktop icons are all very tiny and the corresponding file names are not displayed. The following example shows my desktop containing a few LibreOffice documents and a PDF:
Is this behavior expected? And what can I d...
This menu option is grayed out on my system, and when I select "Resize Icon..." nothing happens. Since the total age of my system was only a few minutes, the "last" restart/update is not really defined (I enabled "download updates during setup"). However I have restarted a few times since then, and the software updater says "this computer is up to date". — bluenote109 hours ago
Anyone know how to add a web-seed to Transmission Torrent Client? I am trying to download the Power PC Lubuntu 12.04 iso and it is like CRAP for speed...
"It's counter productive download and uncompress and install all at the same time" this is actually very productive, especially when installing large packages with many dependencies or doing a system update. Gentoo Linux has this by default and I have never seen it having problem with this feature. gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/… — denysonique3 mins ago
@Seth I know.. It was a gift/joke for christmas, iBook G4 w. 512 MB of RAM. I want to use Ubuntu, but I doubt vanilla would work on 512 MB of RAM, so I went with Lubuntu...
Okay. I will be playing Samurai Swords w. my dad so I won't be watching the chat (/AFK I guess), but ping me anyways if you have an answer. @Braiam Yeah, the default Ubuntu one.
