hi @Nathan

quick question. would you find the ctypes autowrapper useful or just academic?
i'm debating about a python34 instance that yields all top level modules and builds a custom venv wrapper for edge python... it's not a LOT of work, but if it's useless and academic i should probably work on something else and just wait

A: What is a “marauder”?

Matt ЭлленA marauder is a person who steals hats on the high seas. Back in the 17th century, when pirating was at its height, hats were seen as very orderly, and so the more hats you had the more order you had attained, and so the better you were ("of a higher order"). People who became obsessed with hat...

Q: Why was this suggested edit submitted by an anonymous user rejected?

AlvarThis edit was rejected by 2 users and approved by one, I was going to approve it but got the message that it had already been rejected. It sounded like the OP submitted the edit and it didn't change the post in any dramatic way. If we got the possibility to submit edits without logging in why i...

1:27 PM
@Alvar this reads similar to this meta alvar - same answer imho - meta.askubuntu.com/questions/7342/…

@Alvar, I approved cause the asker had only 1 rep. He can't comment.

@fossfreedom but what about this one meta.askubuntu.com/q/3563/10698
@fossfreedom that one says that you should approve it,

anonymous user should have read it better then just skimming it :/

to me it sounded like the OP that's why I want to approve it.

there is a fine line on this - this does appear to be a "reply" - and hence it could be anyone. If the edit is enhancing the question or answer - fixing a typo etc, then approve.

1:31 PM
@fossfreedom to me it sounded like the OP was updating his/her question.

personally - drop a comment on the Q - ask the OP (if it was them) to login and edit the question itself.

ok...

@Alvar heck - I could go around and claim to be the OP - how do we know? devil's advocate and all that jazz

@fossfreedom I know, but you can approve ti then the OP log's in and say that wasn't me and you rollback
so it wont nuke the question..
might waste time though..

if the OP cant be bothered to login (or even to register) - why are we worrying?

1:39 PM
@fossfreedom I just thought it would be kinda pointless to have a non-login edit function if it will be rejected anyway. Why not remove it? Like what's the point.

stackexchange likes to think of itself as open to all - even if you dont have an account. Some edits by anon's can be very good. The definition of "good" though is through community moderation. The community has decided to reject in this case... Oli has decided to override this. His choice. I have an alternate view. We dont always agree. Would be boring if we did.

@fossfreedom it just made my eyes feel boring! and also, it was lack of softwares like libreoffce etc. but this is what we can expect on 512 mb ram

KDE is very nice - works best though if you have a little more memory than 512MB - and the nice effects need a relatively newer graphics card

@fossfreedom why cheap? will it not run on 512

oh no!!! my 1 month old pendrive MISSING!!!!! OMG!

From memory ... I think 512 is the minimum - the recommended is probably 1GB.

@fossfreedom really?
:-( its waste then
@fossfreedom how much time does it take to download 700mb file (say ubuntu iso) in your country?

1GB RAM will cost approx £8-10 - think that is about 1000 rupees
@Utkarsh I've got fibre - it will take about 1 to 2 minutes.

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
@fossfreedom FASTEST! It take me 4 hours
@fossfreedom no, it costs higher in india
and ddr2 ram are rarely availabel in india, delhi

quick google - india - ddr2 ram 1GB is approx 1,133 rupees.

Can someone give me a direction please? I was installing Ubuntu on my lap top, it partitioned the disc and all, but when asked my Ubuntu once account, it got stuck at loading. Should I restart? Won't it break the already partitioned disc?

"it got stuck at loading" what?

Loading the ubuntu one.

sorry, it boots? you get a desktop?

Q: Retagging untagged questions "to minor"?

GalgaleshSince when is retagging an untagged question "to minor"? The community clearly thinks that retagging untagged questions is good (see links below), but still, half of my retags get rejected by being "to minor". Please burninate the "untagged" tag Tag untagged: He's dead, Jim http://askubuntu.co...

I had win7, was installing, it partitioned the disc successfully, asked for ubuntu one account, I gave it, now it's stuck.
It is taking more time than partitioning took, and it's strange, because I switched WiFi off. So obviously is no slow connection issue.

Rewind the tape and describe step for step what did you do, and end it with what you are trying to accomplish.
actually, what are you trying to accomplish, install Ubuntu or install Ubuntu One?

I'm trying to continue the Ubuntu 13.10 install. But I'm not sure how.

and what has that to do with Ubuntu one?

5:00 PM
The ubuntu 13.10 asks for your Ubuntu one account in the process

nope

And when I gave mine, it started loading endlessly the ubuntu one.
Or checking if it's valid.
Dunno

again, I'm like 200% sure you don't need a U1 account to install/upgrade
2

I don't, but I have a account, so I gave it.
Let me try to take a picture, w8 I'm on my phone

@Galgalesh instead of editing the duplicate posts , you can edit new posts & they will help Ask Ubuntu a lot.

> You need permission
> Want in? Ask the owner for access, or switch to an account with permission
upload the image to imgur.com

The buttons have no effect, and the installer won't go any further, it's like this for 45mins or so.

clicking back or continue?
or later?

Already did that, no effect.
If I restart, will it break my disc? Since it already is partitioned.

meh, just press Ctrl + Alt + F1

5:11 PM
Got a terminal, what now?

is a prompt right? not a login screen

ok, do sudo fdisk -l

Gave me some info

can you upload a screenshot?

5:14 PM

windows 8 or UEFI?

ok, this is very easy then
what is the output of mount?

Let me upload a screenshot

5:20 PM
@GustavoMaciel do sudo grub-install /dev/sda6
now you can reboot

Path `boot/grub' is not readable by GRUB on boot. installation is impossible. Aborting.

oh crap, is sudo grub-install --target=/target /dev/sda6

source_dir doesn't exist. Please specify --target or --directory

wut?
this is becoming ridicoulous...

I typed exactly what you told me to :o
grub-install --target=/target /dev/sda6

5:26 PM
err... sudo grub-install --target=/target /dev/sda5
it's 5 at the end

Even with sda5, same message. Source_Dir doesn't exist
Well...
I think I'll just restart then. Maybe I have luck

ok, let me see: sudo grub-install --target=/target/ --directory=/target/boot/ /dev/sda

Which sda?

dpkg --get-selections only shows installed things right?

only sda

5:30 PM
Ok

@Seth no, all the packages statuses
dpkg --get-selections | grep -E 'deinstall|hold' ;)

Only for packages currently on the system right?

/usr/sbin/grub-install: 352: .: can't open /target/boot//modinfo.sh

ok, shoot me!

5:31 PM
@Braiam i.e. It won't show fglrx on my system because I've never installed it right?
and no one else ever did (including the system)

@Seth no, it will show it because it's in the package list

I'm restarting, let's see if I'm able to continue the install.

So why do people say that it shows you what packages have been installed/are installed?

it copies the current packages statuses, ie I have 100 packages installed and 20000 uninstalled and 3 onhold
dpkg tells me the status of all those packages
the one that shows you only the installed packages is aptitude search ~i or dpkg -l
@GustavoMaciel if it doesn't work, just follow this guide askubuntu.com/a/367561/169736

@Braiam dpkg -l doesn't show everything :-/

5:35 PM
@Seth "everything"?

Yeah..
I want every package on my system..
I suppose nothing keeps track of that.

every (?) package?

@AvinashRaj You can't :-/

@Braiam I restarted the comp, it started over again, but thankfully it detected the partition was already made and the installation didn't succeed.

meh, just install again

It gave me an option to erase what already is installed and install over, or erase the whole hdd

but this time don't touch ubuntu one ;)

Well, thanks for the help :p

5:38 PM
how to give only 25 of bounty from 50 to single user

Yeah, I didn't even enabled WiFi G.G

or how do i extend the bounty

@AvinashRaj You can't :-/

@Braiam apt-cache policy will just have to work for now.. :-/

extend the bounty for 1 day

5:40 PM
@Seth nope
@Seth you want all the packages that comes by default in any ubuntu cd?

Hi, guys . Is it possible to install gnome 3.10 on ubuntu 13.04 . I tried but only able to install 3.8.3
and without upgrading my ubuntu to 13.10

@AbhishekGahlot no - you need to upgrade to 13.10 and then add the gnome3-next ppa.

@fossfreedom BTW i tried this askubuntu.com/questions/350543/gnome-3-10-on-ubuntu-13-04 . thought this would be helpful.

yeah - guaranteed to break a whole lot of stuff. Best to update to 13.10 first - that is what the gnome team themselves recommend - they are responsible for the gnome3-next PPA.

Thanks, Will do that way. My internet connection is slow thats why thought of bypassing 13.10 upgrade. But i guess thats the best option.

you've only got a month's worth of support for 13.04 - you'll need to update to 13.10 as soon as possible.
