i'm not reflashing my raspi. i'm feeding the raspi firmware to binwalker and ida...

hm
my rpi has kept corrupting its boot sd card a lot lately :/

overclocking?

i'm sure mine will soon ;)

12:04 AM
hmm
maybe
I've generally run it on moderate

what class sd card

overclocking is a common cause for that...

both stock class 6 supplied by the raspi foundation, and class 4
I'll try without overclocking

Always worth a shot!

i think part of it is nobody nutting up and saying - this one seems to work mostly. just buy it

someone voted OT, but dobey said it "should work", so I'm not sure if he hit a bug or what...

@Braiam here's the real question. if ubuntu-one on windows is on topic, then how do you make mint off-topic without it looking like a grudge match? personally i think they're both off-topic.

@Braiam Close it IMO. The Ubuntu One client isn't supported on Mint AFAIK.

12:25 AM
can someone vote to remove this askubuntu.com/q/392406/169736?

i didn't realize i could vote for deletion...but i can

yeep. 10k users can vote to delete questions that have been closed for X days.
I forgot what X was...

What best practices am I breaking now? D: (ever so slight, joking sarcasm)

Well you're wasting resources by initializing variables without using them

2:08 AM
True, but that's ok here. Anything else you can see? I would think it's too simple to really be that bad..

Haha... I can't think of anything...

:D

@Seth what the... you only show that bit of code to look cool with the black background ¬_¬

Of course it's still equivalent to an unproductive loop

@Braiam What do you mean?
The tilt is to highlight the important bits of the code. The rest is just to fill up the 10 char limit and provide some background.
@Jeremy lol. That is true I suppose.
Anyone want to take this in hand?

Q: how can i migrate my global and user settings from a hard drive alone,without it being connected to the old system?

marc-andre benoitI'm trying to get my settings from a hard drive that used to be in my laptop running 12.04.3LTS. For some reason it just stopped booting properly in the laptop. I did some troubleshooting to no avail and i want to migrate settings/data for now. the hard drive is now connected to my desktop whi...

Our plymouth questions are out of sorts.
I need some willing hands to organize them (not now, as I have to sleep, urgently).
Google: "change plymouth theme ubuntu" to get an idea of what I mean. There are a lot of dupes with duplicated answers.
Example:

good afternoon

7:32 AM

Is there any GUI way to mount a internal HDD?

Yup. gnome-disk-utility.
You should be able to press Alt+F2, type the command, and get a nice GUI for mounting internal disk drives.

7:47 AM
@NathanOsman Can I get that from the software centre?

Yes.

Disk-utility is installed by default in a vanilla Ubuntu.

I think it's simply named "disks".

Nautilus should also mount everything it can see on click.

How do I mount the hdd

7:49 AM
Be easy on me - I'm on Windows ATM, so all of this is off the top of my head.

yeah - they renamed it to keep us busy.

im on disks

what release version?

13.10

<-- fires up 13.10

7:51 AM

<-- still booting (machine is old and slow)
which drive do you want to mount?

@Takkat 3 TB one

It's mounted already according to the screenshot.

I have tryed sudo mount /dev/sdb /home -t ntfs
but I get NTFS signature is missing.
@NathanOsman I cant see it in the file manager

@Takkat if machine is old and slow, you can install lubuntu

7:58 AM
This is Nautilus having mounted an 11 GB NTFS

Try pressing Ctrl+L and typing /media into the location box (in Nautilus).

Unmount on right click context menu

@NathanOsman empty folder

Hrm. Nothing is mounted in that case.

Ubuntu is on your SSD?

8:00 AM
@Takkat Yes

If you go back to Disks, there should be a "play" button under the partition table.

can anyone help me here? i have 2 HDD and I want to combine them. please help

@Utkarsh Combine them? How?

@NathanOsman one is 20gb and one is 51gb and want to mix them

You need RAID for that.

8:01 AM
@NathanOsman Only a "-" and a settings button

Click on the cogwheel for mount options:

@NathanOsman can you help?

@Utkarsh I don't have any experience with RAID.

@NathanOsman what is raid?

wait! let me upload a image

@Takkat I only have options for partitioning and formatting
Mount options is grayed out

Q: Why did you fuk nautilus bookmarks

user227764How do I add my bookmark into places ? Why I can't post comments without reputation ? People of canonical are you brain sick ? You actually fuk linux, made me sick, goto dev/null with this shajt forum

@qwertie that's not the default behaviour... Is the drive in use by Windows?

8:05 AM
@NathanOsman please see that image

@AvinashRaj Flagged.

@Takkat I don't have windows. it was a external HDD before

@Utkarsh Ah, those are partitions.
Those cannot be combined.

I took it out of its case and put it into my pc

@qwertie sometimes Windows hibernating/fast boot messes up the drive.

8:06 AM
why?

@qwertie is it encrypted?

@NathanOsman :-( but why?

You will need to back up the data on both, format it, and then copy the data back on.

@NathanOsman flag it as what

@AvinashRaj I flagged it as offensive.
Either the community or a moderator will remove it - just give it time.

8:07 AM
@Takkat No
"Error synchronizing after initial wipe: Timed out waiting for object (udisks-error-quark, 0)"

@NathanOsman this will be a too long process
any other way?

HA I got part of it to mount

part of it???

@Utkarsh: You could back up the data on only one of them, expand the other, and then copy the data back.

@Takkat It seems to be split into 2 partitions even though it use to be one

8:09 AM
@qwertie this can only be done by deliberate user action.

Formating the other part gives me Error creating partition

@NathanOsman 51gb partiton is VERY VERY importnat as it has sensitive data and 20gb is empty. so, what to do?

You will have to remove at least one partition in order to "merge" them.
There is simple no other way.

did you make an msdos or gpt partition table? msdos does not support 3TB

@Takkat gpt

8:11 AM
:/
Any data on that drive you need to keep?

Tring to open the mounted partition gives "Unable to access “a” No object for D-Bus interface"

@NathanOsman thanks

@qwertie yeah - the system does not see your partitions.

@Takkat Any way to nuke the drive
the format option in disks wont work

@qwertie If there are no data you need I'd try to re-partition with gparted. There is something weird with that drive.
<-- has only little if no experience with GPT

8:17 AM
@Takkat Just give me errors, how can I totally nuke the drive

@NathanOsman please see above. would it be okay to combine them

@qwertie what errors? Can you see it's SMART data?

You can only combine free space by moving partitions. And moving partitions can break things. Horribly.
I would strongly advise against it since the benefit would be minimal.

@qwertie that comes from an msdos partition table. Use gpt instead!

8:22 AM
@NathanOsman what do moving partiton break? the full HDD or just the data inside the HDD we are moving?

@Takkat How do I change it?

@NathanOsman ?

SMART data

@qwertie open gparted, wipe all partitions and create then new from scratch.
Gparted may need to be installed first.

@qwertie why is my powered on time is 7 months?

8:27 AM
@Utkarsh mine is not correct aswell

@qwertie which thing is not correct in mine??????
please tell

Mine says 6 days And i only turned on my pc today

how old is your HDD?

@Takkat splitting my drive in half seems to have got it working
