learning_this_nowsorry if I am missing any info but I will do my best to be as thorough as possible in the first attempt. TL;DR factory restored computer, used Ubuntu live disk now PC crashes whenever I try to login. Doing the run from USB option, everything loads perfectly but not on install version. I have a...

Q: Messed up my Windows boot partition

mtoncThis is going to be a long question. So I wanted to copy Windows 10 from an HDD to an SSD. I successfully copied the image using Macrium Reflect and was able to boot to Windows on the SSD. I then tried to dual boot Pop OS and misread the dual boot instructions and created a second boot partition ...

Yo o/
When writing a custom service, we can set socket value as well. Any good link from where I can check how to set this socket value properly?
I have written an ini file which I supply to this custom service.
The ini file should have the socket details.

can anybody remove my wrong flag? askubuntu.com/questions/1176020/…
i was looking to the tag

@Bahamut You can put a comment to close voters to ignore your vote and leave open. You could also change the tae to tag from 14.04 to 18.04. Then you could flag your comment as no longer necessary.

I do so. Thanks.

@TheLittleNaruto Our dearly departed Muru wrote a great self-answered question on systemd: askubuntu.com/questions/659267/…

@Bahamut please don't, actually. I mean, don't just tag with the version number, that gives us no useful information about the question at all. I ended up tagging with instead. As for the flag, you should be able to retract it. I don't see the flag as pending and I don't see it in your list of flags, so I guess you retracted it, right?
AH no, I do see it. Could you retract it, please?
Just go to the question and click on "flag" again.

A: Cancel misclicked flags

Michael StumThis is now completed and as of August 2016, live network-wide. Note that if you're a moderator (and thus your flags are authoritative), there's no retracting. Also, close flags get converted into close votes if you have enough rep, and can be retracted through the existing "retract close vote" ...

To late for icon tag. I made my edit. I retract my flag.
sorry.

10:43 AM
@Bahamut Don't worry, no problem at all!

i always learning by doing and failure.

@terdon Sorry didn't clue into retract. I knew that just 4:30am and still cobwebs in brain...

@WinEunuuchs2Unix Ha! 4:30 am is a valid excuse for anything!

11:45 AM
@terdon Apparently no bad deed goes unrewarded. My incompetence there garnered 15 points! LOL

12:45 PM
@WinEunuuchs2Unix Thanks so much! That's what I was looking for. But why he got suspended? He is a high rep user.

A: Why was muru's account suspended?

OliThis puts me in a strange position. Stepping through the incident might be a teachable moment but without their input —which they cannot currently give, for obvious reasons— it seems unfair to drag a defenceless user back through this. I also can't just delete this because censorship (sheeple!) s...

Q: local users accessing the same folder from rstudio-server

NielsI´m a Linux-Beginner and managed to install Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS and R, as well as Rstudio-Server on a PC that i use for data analysis. I can use rstudio-server on this PC through the browser of my laptop. Nonw i want to give another person access to the rstudio-server and my files, but it´s not ...

@Kulfy Oh! must have been difficult for the mod for sure.

Mods won't discuss suspensions publicly, it's not fair to the person who was suspended.

4:03 PM
@TheLittleNaruto I am very glad a user’s rep count does not matter at all when it comes to behaviour which justifies a suspension.

@HardikSharma Please don't do that. If someone wants to help you, they will. But please don't ping random people asking for help. Also, the best way to get help is to post a question on the main site. Then, you can come here to discuss your question, but it's better for everyone to ask on the main site first.
That way, everyone can benefit from the answers you get and the people helping you can get some reputation boosts. When you ask in chat, nobody benefits but you.
Also, searching the site usually helps:

Q: How do I install Python 3.6 using apt-get?

Olian04I've tried the normal way, sudo apt-get install python3.6, but... well... that didn't work. So, how would I go about it? (I'd preferably not build it on my own) I'm using Ubuntu 16.04.

Q: How do I install a different Python version using apt-get?

harryHow can I install a different version of Python using apt-get? Obviously I realise I can install using the source tar ball, however I would prefer not to install from source and instead use the package manager, as that's what it's there for. Surely somewhere reputable builds .deb files for the l...

A: How do I install the latest Python 2.7.X or 3.X on Ubuntu?

Nick TMostly a mirror of this answer with a tweaked intro I would recommend pyenv. It automates the build process aside from installing the header dependencies (see below). You can build and install a new (or old) version of Python by simply saying pyenv install 3.6.0. Everything runs as your user, so...

@terdon My message wasn't for the reason for suspension. It was for "Oh! must have been difficult for the mod for sure."

Q: What are the differences between Ubuntu 16.04 and 18.04 for a headless VM?

Jacob CI'm going to be spinning up several headless Ubuntu VMs in the coming weeks and need to decide which version I should use. I read up on the primary difference between 16 and 18 and found it mainly revolves around the UI. As my VMs will be purely command line, I was wondering what differences ther...

@JourneymanGeek I can imagine...
Does a network-wide suspension need a unanimous vote by all mods across the entire network, a majority vote or is it an employee vote?

10:35 PM
@Fabby no and no. And yes

Thank you...

But if we need to request a network suspension - there's a pattern of very bad behavior
