Q: XPS 9350 won't drive Dell U2711 display over HDMI

toojaysI attach my Dell XPS 9350 to a Dell U2711 display using a USB-C to HDMI cable. The laptop detects the display and claims it is sending a signal to it, but the display shows no picture. The relevant output from xrandr --prop is: DP1 connected 1920x1080+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y...

Hi. Has there been a discussion already about his: Should we already close 14.04 questions as off-topic? ubuntu-distro-info says it's EOL since 7 days.
On meta I can't find something like this yet: meta.askubuntu.com/questions/18032/…

@LeonidMew Tip when to use "the" and "a":
When you can touch it, it's "the"
When you cannot touch it, it's "a".
(so the script you're writing is "the script", whereas some script somewhere is "a script")

Thanks @Fabby

YW. I know it's hard for you...

Q: GParted stuck when formatting swap drive

John M.I'm trying to format a USB disk which was used as a swap drive on another machine using gparted. It keeps getting stuck at the following screen iotop -o shows no IO activity. Anyone know how this can be fixed?

@LeonidMew that is a feature, not a bug – and it’s a useful one, it simply traps the signal

I think it should be optional. Anyway I find how to break this feature :)
Strange what it working in eclipse terminal console, when TERM=xterm-256color. whiptail restores terminal text to same as before execution, but TERM=linux blocks this feature.
How to correctly name text terminal, what opened by ctrl-alt-f3, "tty"?

@LeonidMew tty3, yes

Q: Split Front/Rear/Aux on Mic/Input ports on one sound card to different capture sources (Pulseaudio/ALSA)

Tony SesekI have an Asus Xonar DG installed in my Pop OS (Ubuntu 19.04 flavor) machine. I was wondering if I am able to separate the different capture sources into discrete inputs for use in Jack and streaming stuff from my Aux/Front Mic to, say, Audacity while keeping my microphone working in Discord. ...

Hello everyone! My 18.04 Ubuntu freezes once it hits the login screen, right from the start without delay after hitting the screen. From my research this looks like a driver issue with Nvidia, and I did change my display driver the last time I worked (Intel onboard and dedicated Nvidia 840M). Where would I look to confirm if this is the actual cause and what would I look for? Currently my only access is through the recovery console from the grub menu. Thank you for your time!

Q: Is there a similar tool like Curl but is already included in Linux?

EagleDevI'm not sure if there is a similar command/utility which comes along with Linux distro CentOs, Ubuntu and RedHat without installing Curl. Basically I'd like to do a command like below curl -H https://website.com/api?... ...but doesn't want to install any tool.
