Q: find and move files without overwriting and with output

UmerI'm trying to find and move some files from /home/user/fol1 to /home/user/fol2. Generally I would use find . -type f -name "abc*" -exec mv -t "/path/to/foo/bar" {} + but this overwrites files with same names already present in /path/to/foo/bar. I want it to skip the files if already present t...

Q: Can I reuse my own answers outside of AskUbuntu?

Sergiy KolodyazhnyySuppose one day I woke up and decided "I'm gonna start a blog about Ubuntu" or "I'm gonna write a book about Ubuntu". Over time I've accumulated large amounts of answers, some of which could be combined into chapters/blog posts of their own. Now, I know the reuse of other people's answers has to ...

Q: Ubuntu does not wake up after suspension/hibernation

luke kongI am using ubuntu 18.04 lts. After I close the lid (for 1 min+), ubuntu refuses to wake up. It flashes an error screen instead: Does it have to do with grub? I usually work around the issue by rebooting...but it takes a long time since I am using a hdd.

hi all
I have a very silly q
I have an external drive, which is automounted,
so I can see that I can access it as location /media/myusername/TOSHIBA\ EXT/
How to change that or add another (link?) so I can access it with a more simple name, say /media/toshiba/ or whatever

in /etc/fstab?

If you think that's a question for the site, let me know

is it not automounted by a line in there?
when you say automounted, do you mean, it mounts when you plug it in?

I don't see it in /etc/fstab
@Zanna yes

ah

6:01 PM
@ypercubeᵀᴹ change the label :)

well you can rename (re-label) the drive (this looks ok to me - haven't tried it myself) but it will always automatically mount in /media/username rather than in /media
I believe that's for permission reasons - there's an ACL for you in /media/$USER to give you access to stuff mounted there

@Zanna media/username/somename would be ok.
I just don't like the space that it uses.

ok, well you only need to change the drive label for that as Rinzwind said

I guess it takes from the drive's firmware

@ypercubeᵀᴹ I get that haha :)
especially with the new cough feature of ls
yeah it comes from the drive, but you can re-label from Ubuntu

Q: Automount USB drive as /media/USERNAME/LABEL

Keith ThompsonQuick summary: How can I arrange for USB FAT32 thumb drives to be auto-mounted as /media/USER/LABEL, with non-root read/write permissions? (There are a lot of questions here about automounting USB drives, but I don't see one that's directly relevant.) I'm running 14.04.4 LTS on an x86_64 system...

exactly what you are asking ;-)
@ypercubeᵀᴹ do a man mlabel ;)
oh is the disk ext? fat? ntfs?
and here is a page listing them all help.ubuntu.com/community/RenameUSBDrive

Great thnx!
@Rinzwind ntfs
I renamed it with gparted

cool
command line would be
sudo ntfslabel <device> <label>

Thank you both!

Q: How does the same Linux version work on different hardware
