@RobotHumans Yep! Same dev team. They just can't call it Descent because the name was licensed under another company.
@RobotHumans Absolutely! It's still in early access (release date is May 31) but there's a full singleplayer campaign, singleplayer "challenge mode" (you vs hoards of robots) and multiplayer PvP.
Right now no coop or multiplayer CTF. It may come later though.
Awesome. I hope they do well. I'll check it out later. I hope single player delivers. That's my largest complaint with most modern "kickstarter" games. That they rely totally on PvP or mindless play with no mission system.
opened the tab so it's in my history. holding pattern at least until morning, but i'm glad to see it.
@RishiC if you don't get an answer in a few day ping Takkat. He's the resident audio sound subsystem wizard, but don't ping him superfluously. He's really good and we don't want to burn him out.
I'm making a speech recognition code in python and I get an error saying "no default input device". On a forum it was suggested that I re-install all my audio drivers. But I don't know how to do that.
So, how do I re-install all my audio drivers?
@RishiC Well, like I said, I'm not an expert here, but I highly doubt reinstalling your audio drivers will fix that. Especially if audio works fine now
Reinstalling audio drivers won't fix that. Are you sure you have an input device at all? I've seen that happen if you use a USB device, but that's a bug. Some apps recognize hotplugged devices, but the OS doesn't declare them "default" necessarily.
My usb headset for example hot-toggles with chrome, but not with the gmusic app I have on a cron job as a wake up alarm. Is it a pseudo built in device like the mic is paired to the webcam?
Only asking for clarity, so things you might add to your question. Not because I have a solution, I have the same sorts of problems. I just use things differently to get around it
If your mic is paired to your webcam it may only work sometimes (when the webcam is turned on or not). I'ld add to the question where you can and can't use it. Does it work with audacity? Does it work with google hangouts? Simple things to make things more "troubleshoot-able". In my areas of expertise, I often don't get enough details to help people, so I'm trying to help you find the right details to provide.
Like, on my laptop, the mic and webcam show up as USB devices. So, if USB doesn't get recognized, for some apps, I'ld be dead in the water.
You may want to take a look at pavucontrol and make sure it's selected as the default. You may also want to add that it works with audacity to your question so you don't get "does it work at all" in your comments.
Be prepared. You're going to get "then you don't need to reinstall audio drivers" comments. It's just a thing. It'll turn out fine in the end. Just give it a couple days. AU just isn't on-call expert support.
I just installed Kazam, and it looks very simple to use. I want to use it here on askubuntu. I figured out how to take a screenshot, I just don't know how to upload it. Does anyone know how to do this?
for some reason your "unplugged mic" is registering input while your built-in is not. might be part of your problem - just looking at the screenshots. sounds like a bug, but I'll let it ride. someone might have a solution.
@TheWanderer sooo many times, but over time I've managed to reduce the distance I get before I realise it's happening. Now I usually wake myself up after a couple of paragraphs of gently running my eyes over the words while thinking about what's for breakfast
I found this post. The OP states "A 30k Geek (GeekCash) reward is given to you after the job is complete." I wasn't sure what this meat, so I commented "What does "What does a 30k Geek (GeekCash) reward is given to you after the job is complete mean?". The user replied with "@ubashu: Yes, you can...
@terdon the website linked in OP’s profile (“Working at codequs.com”) has a GeekCash launch announcement and is heavily advertising the cryptocurrency with popups – I’m with Rinzwind here, I consider this spam and OP is at least working for the company behind the product.
In Ubuntu I'm trying to configure a DNS-server for a domain. I haven't tested it yet because I haven't got access to the virtual box yet. But I can feel that it contains problems.
I have configured named.conf.local like this:

More often than I wish I come across a post (mostly a question) which uses wrong version numbers of Ubuntu.

Ubuntu 16 not detecting Windows on the hard drive despite partit...
I mean, yes, the OP seems to be working for that company, but it really looks like they just want to make a PPA. And they made the mistake of offering money, but I don't see why that makes it spam.
@Rinzwind I would say that only really makes sense when you are trying to get people to use your tool. The OP hadn't even linked to the site or anything. Just to the github releases. Dunno, it seems like a reasonable question and a useful one, the only fault was that the OP tried to pay us to answer.
When a travel agent's website offers you a price and you come back a few days later and it has increased BUT YOU STILL GET THE OLD PRICE WITH INCOGNITO MODE.
When you attempt to modify a file without having write permissions on it, you get an error:

zsh: permission denied: /tmp/foo
Sudoing doesn't help, because it runs the command as root, but the shell handles redirecting stdout a...
@Rinzwind I agree it may not be the perfect general approach, but it’s still a valid way to achieve the goal, and the answer is pretty well-written in terms of warnings and explanations. I’d rather let the users decide based on that…
@traducerad The main issue is that you are running a command with sudo privileges, but redirecting the output is completely independent of the command, so the sudo doesn't affect it. That's a shell feature and you're still running your normal shell session. So yeah, either use tee or sudo -i to open a root shell
This question was just bumped to homepage (appr. 14:30 EDT 2018-05-21). It's About an EOL LTS version that lost support years ago, specific to a kernel version that's a whole generation older (3.x versus current 4.x) than what we have now. If this were asked new now, it would be instantly close...
@traducerad not for what I do with it, no – I neither have to deal with lots of files nor with directory structures I don’t know. If not with -exec, I use tree more than find I suppose.

I am new to the Linux world. This error may be very easy to fix but I could not find any similar questions/problems. So, I installed WineHQ following instructions on https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu. The version of Wine I have on my Ubuntu 16.04 is Wine 3.8 as of today (includes Mono and Gecko). It...
