9:20 PM
Does this really work outside the local network?!?

@dessert yes

@Rinzwind that's scary

@dessert not really.
you need to know the mac address of the NIC plus need to set the router to allow access, and you can password protect it

@Rinzwind but it's not working via wifi, or is it?

nope
i have seen a setup using a phone too though

9:25 PM
@dessert you have to set up your machine for doing that anyways beforehand

system turns on when phone is nearer than 5 mtrs from system

@Videonauth i'm trying to do that, but just now realized it's not going to work (easily) via wifi, which makes it nearly useluss to me

my boss has an app where he can only use connections through ssh where his phone must be near his system

@Rinzwind that combined with a 2FA would be cool :P for switching the system on

and when he walks away from the system wiht his phones all ssh keys are removed from system and memory and his screen locks

9:28 PM
I'm using an USB stick for that, as oon i pull it my computer gets locked and my user dir encrypted
i.e. i get logged out
and are unable to log in without the usb in place

9:38 PM
why waking the laptop remotely, I'll just use rtcwake:
61
A: Automatically sleep and wake-up at specific times

fossfreedomrtcwake The command that you are interested in is rtcwake: This program is used to enter a system sleep state until specified wakeup time. testing To find the correct syntax that works for you try the following: sudo rtcwake -u -s 60 -m mem This should suspend the computer for 60 ...

btw: here comes the sun!

@dessert didn't you like my morning song? :P

@Videonauth sorry, not so much – it's not my tradition ;P

a mod here who is not asleep? can i haz chatroom on this: askubuntu.com/q/988141
@terdon ^

That title is so dramatic. — darksky 47 mins ago

dont want to spin up a whole discussion in comments until it shows me the chat option

9:54 PM
@Videonauth understandable

i whish there would be an option to open that myself from the question on

:41872093 ping Seth?

@seth you're around?
btw my favorite esotheric programming language is LOL-code
HAI 1.2
  CAN HAS STDIO?
  VISIBLE "HAI WORLD!!!1!"
KTHXBYE
2
thats hello world in lolcode

whats 1.2?

10:15 PM
> All LOLCODE programs must be opened with the command HAI. HAI should then be followed with the current LOLCODE language version number (1.2, in this case). There is no current standard behavior for implementations to treat the version number, though.
> To declare a variable, the keyword is I HAS A followed by the variable name. To assign the variable a value within the same statement, you can then follow the variable name with ITZ <value>.
it's actually really good oO

@dessert yep it is in fact usable
:( sighs i whish there would be a button for higher rep users to open chatrooms for a topic and allow a low rep user/OP into it

@Seth oh man, this is fun ---^

> BOTH SAEM ANIMAL AN "CAT", O RLY?
YA RLY, VISIBLE "J00 HAV A CAT"
NO WAI, VISIBLE "J00 SUX"
OIC

I'm just really impressed how clear that actually is.

11:09 PM

Q: I killed Ubuntu. [16.04]

ileryon 3000Trying to get more ram to improve performance on a game got me ending the "Compiz" Process (consumed around 30% memory) Which killed Ubuntu,or my main session since its active (compiz) on the guest session. the desktop wallpaper is all there is, I can open the "TTY", move the mouse. Any way to re...

You know something's wrong when a question is titled "I killed Ubuntu."

yep but solved :)
could have needed a chatroom on that, but made it without in the end

11:14 PM
@Videonauth Please edit this title to something matching the problem – you know it best now I think. ;P

@dessert I'm currently at it

@NathanOsman What's it called again?

Bridge Constructor Portal.
It also includes the Bridge Constructor game itself. At least it did for me on Steam.

aha.

Runs on Linux, so that's cool.

11:19 PM
I thought it was a mobile game.

It's both.
But I think they are separate purchases.

ah
@NathanOsman ohbtw Civ VI is 50% off right now.
I can't remember if you were interested in that or not.

I have used up my Steam budget for the year :P

haha. Year's almost up :P

@dessert done

11:23 PM
@Videonauth well done!

and this makes me a second time within the winter bash having 200+ rep for a day :)

@Videonauth ?

all done already :)

Ah, right. Cool!
:)

could have needed a chat on that but did it with comments in the end :)

11:27 PM
OK.

the question i just linked a few lines above which is now edited to a more fitting title :)

Yeah, I saw, but since I hadn't seen the deleted comments, I didn't understand what I could do. Normal users can also create chat rooms and leave comments linking to them. So the only reason you'd need a mod would be to bring the comments in. Ans since I didn't see any comments, I was confused :)

@terdon the user didnt have enough rep for entering my chatroom :)
but well its sorted and another question answered and accepted

👍

I'm going to flag the comments as no longer needed especially that 'This title is so dramatic' one
4 more UV today and I hit the cap, got 220 already today and 60 is from accepts :)

11:39 PM
Nice! :)

second time within the winterbash already
time for a new hat to wear

I'm glad I don't live here: google.ca/maps/place/…
Because I'd only see the sun for one minute during the day.

@NathanOsman You'd also be living in Alaska.
So, America.

I know that.
