I wrote two small codes, one using a pointer whose only purpose was dereferencing a struct, and another one that used the struct directly (with no pointer). Without optimization they were different, the pointer was actually being stored on stack here (0x00000000004004da <+4>: movq $0x601038,-0x8(%rbp))
but with optimization (-O2 flag), the codes compiled to the exactly same machine code :)
@Serg Yes. The only question that remains is whether it's black or white magic. I'm not too sure about that sometimes...
I am stitching together a very large 16-bit image.
maybe I get too excited when I find out about those things :p
@Serg so is magic
23:03
@IanC even the addresses are the same O.o with optimization
@Serg yeah, because it uses the literal address of instance1. Since pointer was pointing to it, there is no need to have it stored, we can just access it directly :)
If we used the memory address somehow, something like printf("Address = %p\n", pointer);, then I think it would store pointer in the stack, because it'd need its value
I now have a 222 MB TIFF image.
12059x2411.
Because, panorama.
You know, it's quite exciting when you discover how to do something differently
23:13
I'll make a smaller copy for you to see.
is that from the DSLR?
Yes.
I took 7 RAW images, developed them, and then used Hugin to combine them.
huh
works pretty well
Yes, indeed.
But dang. It's slow.
23:33
There, that's better.
upload the full thing
I dare you
In what format?
Imgur scales everything down and forces JPEG.
filesize=5GB
23:34
I'm almost afraid to open that image
@Serg it's a small version
I'm so going to try that.
@EliahKagan Sorry for not replying to original thread, it's scrolled off the time window. <!-- language: lang-sh --> works indeed. The color formatting in the answer looks the same as <!-- language: bash --> to me, but at least at @muru won't edit my answers again :p
@NathanOsman 256 glorious colors
@Serg Don't worry, the images here aren't large.
23:34
@NathanOsman I gotta say, that's one heck of a pretty landscape
Exporting as GIF...
Welp.
see you in 20 years
Hi muru, sorry to interrupt your evening :)
23:35
@WinEunuuchs2Unix they're identical. The highlighter used doesn't distinguish between sh and bash
12 MB.
Not as bad as I expected.
Back to sleep
The quantization really isn't noticeable until you zoom in.
hue
literally
23:36
@muru Well the first line is #!/bin/sh instead of #!/bin/bash so I thought it was important to be syntactically correct :p
But then again... at 12059x2411, it's hard to discern individual pixels anyway.
Yeah, I do that just in case SE ever switches to a better one
Future proofing is always a good idea.
unless you manufacture smartphones
Like a "SAMSUNG 7"?
23:39
Samsung J7, S7, A7, or Note 7?
I thought you hated people hating Samsung 7 instead of Note 7, hence the reference :p
It's a 29 MP photograph now.
future proofing for cell phones would be a pocket fire extinguisher to go along with the pocket battery booster.
We're getting close to IMAX proportions.
Speaking of IMAX I started researching HD projectors that will make 130" screen on wall possible.
23:40
...and?
@NathanOsman only 29?
Well I take a long long time to do things... currently epson seems to have the best offering for $839 USD.
It's not very large vertically.
@WinEunuuchs2Unix That's cheaper than a 72" TV, for sure.
Only works under ideal lighting conditions though.
Buy the time I buy it should be cheaper but the Loonie might be at 63 cents LOL
Not the way things are going in the US :P
Our dollar might actually gain a bit there.
23:42

Yes I know it's only about 2200 lumens or so. Sony has super high lumens but it's 25 grand.
And you shouldn't complain - you only have GST there. We have a Provincial sales tax.
@NathanOsman so apparently we're getting a tax here on Mexican imports because that's somehow making Mexico pay for the wall?
So when you pay 5% on items, just remember I'm paying 12%.
I dunno the US stock market went over 20k... things don't look so bad economically... especially when currency is based on faith and not reality.
23:43
@Zacharee1 Science, bro.
even though that probably means we'll just be buying less from Mexico
@Zacharee1 the 20% tax on mex imports will never happen because they will pay for the wall indirectly.... like forgoing 2 billion dollar grant to fight drug lords.
so they're paying for Trump's ambitions, but more like "you're gonna pay for this..."
@WinEunuuchs2Unix how are they paying for the wall indirectly?
@Zacharee1 Right now US gives Mexico 2 billion dollars to fight drug war... They could simply not receive that and pay for wall indirectly.
has Trump been told this?
23:45
The last thing Mexico's president wants is a 20% import tax on their goods.
He has now :0
@ThomasWard suggested a month ago we discuss politics on SE Politics Beta. So I signed up last night and posted my first question. It got closed a few hours later as "opinion orientated". I thought that was hilarious because all the other posts there are on political opinions / speculation anyway. Here's my post that got closed:politics.stackexchange.com/questions/14897/…
that is a pretty bad question
Well I was emotionally involved because Trump had hinted during election he wouldn't invade Syria, and this seemed like a 180 to me.
So this speech is making him look like a war-monger like Clinton and McCain to me.
I get upset with all the people dying, getting r*ped, looted, homeless, etc.
Perhaps my question was posted with clouded judgement shrugs
"The equating of war refugees with terrorists is particularly repugnant"
pretty much that
That is what he is equating by blocking all Syrian Refugees. I was using his language.
I used the / to divide my reference of migrants with his reference of terrorists.
23:55
Most of the EU terrorist incidents over the last year were by home grown citizens or Tunisia, not by Syrian Refugees.
A lot of the EU economic migrants are from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Africa, etc. Syria just gets the spotlight because of the proxy wars there.
