@SeverusTux Pilot has more!
I like him btw
and that cruel devil is TUX with sunglasses :)
The kind of Imitation and fun @NathanOsman has did for Windows 98 is awesome.
06:16
@HenryWHHack what happened ?? Fire ? Earthquake ? Tsunami :O
@SeverusTux It's a smokedetector command.

Can you... stop @HenryWHHack?
BE CAREFULL A MOD IS ALLWAY WATCHING!
06:52
dude, spellcheck
@JourneymanGeek ?
*careful and *always
Also, if you know something will annoy folk, don't do it
Was that an insult?
plus hichris123 is not a mod :=)
@Rinzwind de facto we are all mods
07:01
@Videonauth fine fine. hichris123 is not a blue user :=)
ok, I can accept that rephrase :p
+1 for your mod selection >:+D
pay me 100 dollars and you get another +1 >:-D
@HenryWHHack its a very general statement
j-man! how are you today?
I am feeling very sick :=)
vaguely bored
07:06
@JourneymanGeek I am testing @Videonauth's bribe-ability >:-D
im sorry but im poor very poor
The election is looking more and more interesting
@Videonauth better response would be: I am not bribeable :=)
ooooh Jacob added himself? @Videonauth you got a problem now :D
yeah well i never expected to stand a chance at all
Can stackoverflow block an IP?
07:09
being realistic is a good mod trait too @Videonauth ;-)
Can't connect to stackoverflow when at work
@blade19899 yeah
and well
I have no idea what its like when you're blocked. More likely your work's blocking em ;p
@blade19899 unlikely. I'd put a bet on your work blocking
you can check with netstat can't you(?)
or traceroute?
@Videonauth the only thing against you is the 2 months... your editing scores are excellent.
well we will see
im just looking at it realistctly, the persons who will pull in today for nomiation have a much bigger fan base so to say
the only real positive on my side is that i spend roughly 10-12 hours per day on the site being active reading evaluating answering and so on
I did that too in the beginning :D
I think one of the mods said I had the quickest run to 50k and to 100k rep at the time.
07:26
:)
@Rinzwind Like I said we will see in the end :) as I already stated I wont be upset or jealous if I not make it, but happy as hell if, as it gives me a chance to contribute
@Videonauth :)

traceroute would be handy
also, that looks more like a network issue
Anyone heard of @kos lately?
08:15
Can someone close this askubuntu.com/questions/784758/…? I have resolved it with the OP and this is not a AU question.
@blade19899 that is not stack blocking,
@JacobVlijm ehm. yesterday.
@Rinzwind Really? For some reason, I'd expected him to run
... for mod
@SeverusTux but that is not kos thats byte commander
Oops !
08:25
@SeverusTux Ah, I think it's a good thing for everyone if more will arrive.
shush jacob :p gimme at least a little chance;)
@JacobVlijm yes
Probably ... some are upset because of that rep thing
@Videonauth haha, I am in it like you
:) i know
@SeverusTux yeah, so was I as you may have noticed. Nevertheless, better a not-so-handy procedure, than letting things happen.
08:28
I dont want Jacob as a mod. It will take time away from his answers >:-D
I still believe ths algorithm was to narrow based in its fuzzy search
@Rinzwind Haha, Seth told me it was 5 mins a day :)
@Rinzwind same opinion here ;-)
@JacobVlijm you trust him? >:-D
@Rinzwind asa a human being, yes
08:29
and as a mod claiming it is 5 minutes? >:-D
@Rinzwind but 5 may be too little :)
...and I have a slow brain
it took Luis 6 hours or so to clear the review list when it went over 1200 >:-D
....then i will need 6 months
08:33
@JacobVlijm good call on nominating yourself! Glad to see you're running.
@terdon thanks!
o/ Serg
\o
@SeverusTux I haven't planned of nominating myself for mod elections. Being a mod requires substantial contribution and cool head, neither of which I poses so far
@JacobVlijm somewhat more than that
I'm trying to decide whether to run or not. I think it might be a good idea to have a shared mod between U&L and AU.
08:37
@terdon definitely a good idea, and you;ve got respect from both sites.
@JourneymanGeek yeah, I figured, but even then, if it's not hours per day, and I still can do some coding and my job, it should be fine.
@JacobVlijm 30 minutes a day spread out seems like a sensible amount
@Serg Hello :D

I am imagining @Videonauth sighing in relief ;-P ;-)
meanwhile . . . is there anything that can be done about the lost rep ? or shall i just start from scratch ?
@terdon I shall ping you all possible tranfers for u+l >:-D
08:39
@Rinzwind Well, yeah. That's kinda the point :) Gods help me.
@JourneymanGeek that sounds reasonable
@Serg chalk it up and start from where you are now, the chances are very low you would get hose votes back
you trust him?
*deja vu*
@Serg By "start from the scratch" you mean new account ? 😱 😲 😵 😱 😲 😵
@Serg not unless shog finds a bug in the script he ran
08:40
@Rinzwind I have to...
@SeverusTux <.< em . . . no, I already have this account posted on my resume and I'm to lazy to edit that ;) jokes aside, I will just continue posting answers
I hope i didn't loose the command-line badge with all that rep . . .
@Serg thats the best decision :-D
@Serg Did you have the gold one?
[ SmokeDetector ] Bad keyword in body, blacklisted website in body, link at end of body: This compound is viewed for its twin action by exiavelly on askubuntu.com
@terdon yup, i had . . . down to bronze now :/
08:43
to silver
@Serg you had command-line gold ?
no, silver actually, missed that
@SeverusTux yes, i had :)
crap..
Thats not nice
I'll survive , there's always more questions to answer :)
Anyhow . . . what else is new ?
not much i guess :)
except that now everyone seems to aim for making my chances smaller ;)
08:53
Ah , the joy of competition
@Videonauth if you lose, all that means is there are two less people who've mod material next election
yeah but when and if a next election will happen is uncertain
@AndroidDev :)
True but they're periodic. I missed one election due to exams and was in a better position the next one.
That's what I am thinking right now actually : I am not in a good position for this election. I need to learn more, edit more, produce more answers
And produce answers of a better quality
09:03
@Serg The quality of your answers has very little (if any) bearing on your suitability as a mod.
@JourneymanGeek as you can see I have commented on every candidate I think is worth winning this.
@terdon well, people vote for those who have been around for a while and have written good answers , isn't that right ?
therefore better answers equals better chances to win (maybe ?)
@Serg Well, yes, but they shouldn't :) I can think of many users whose answers are great but who would make absolutely horrible mods. Their technical knowledge might be flawless but they're too confrontational, impatient, rude or whatever.
For example, if I were to vote for Jacob, it wouldn't be because his answers are excellent (although they are) but because I've seen him be mature, patient and constructive in his interactions on the site.
Hamlet said pretty much the same centuries ago
Their virtues else (be they as pure as grace,
As infinite as man may undergo)
Shall in the general censure take corruption
From that particular fault. The dram of evil
Doth all the noble substance of a doubt
To his own scandal.
Yup, that's pretty much exactly what I said. :P
09:15
Hello Everybody! :)
Hello 1
SmokeDetector Thank You for the idea! :)

Q: How to Make MoveToTrash mean Delete Permanently in Ubuntu?

MasiI did Move to Trash > Empty Trash. However, .fileNames and .directoryNames stay in the filesystem. For instance, select to host the folder where you did removals. All your removals will be shared too. This is not what I want because it can lead to severe mistakes. Systems: Ubuntu 16.04

@Serg SmokeDetector has given me an idea to code my very own AI/Bot in python.
09:22
@HenryWHHack oh ? that's interesting project. What will your bot do ?
Also . . . Here's a thought to ponder : is mental momentum important for being a good programmer ? or is it all about "summoning the demons at will" ?
( Yup, Serg is back and back to the weird thoughts )
@HenryWHHack Just so you know, smokey is also written in python and is open source
I know that.
@Ferrybig Wait I see what you me. ;)
@Serg Thats hard to answer, I prefer to summoning the daemons at will.
Hello everybody ! :)
Hello, netbox !
09:26
Hey @Serg ! nice to see you ! :) How are you my friend ?
@Videonauth I think that's the best way, but less natural.
@cl-netbox quite well, came back from China ( already ) two days ago, and miss it soooo much already :(
I will be going back there at some point, i don't know how or when, but will be going
@Serg what especially do you like there ?
@Serg and taxing if theyre summoned, its like that i sit there then until its done, even sleeping in my desk chair
@cl-netbox food !!! the delicious food !!! and noodles !!! and the student life , it's so peaceful and safe there. And just people in general - very kind and nice
I am going to modify smoky to make him more better and reliable @Ferrybig thank you! but do I need a license to do this?
:D
LOL
09:30
yes, probably GPL v 3
Whatever it says in the source code
I need a license to modify smoky.
WOW!
Well, yeah, that's how it usually works in the open source world :)
@HenryWHHack Smokey is released under either the MIT or the Apache License, Version 2.0, these licences are pretty free in what your allowed to do
MIT , huh ? that's what i have been using for my scripts :) and scarring off the users as well
@Serg the food ? I think you can get very good chinese food in the US as well - right ? I like the asian mentality in general ... but you say peaceful and safe ? hmmm ... as long as you don't disagree with the officials - right ? :)
09:34
@cl-netbox hehe, disagreeing with the officials is dangerous in any country . I'm talking about common people
Nah . . . one can find decent chinese restaurants in the US, but . . . it's not entirely the same. . . .
@Serg MIT isn't even that restrictive, it allows you to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the Software, basically almost everything. If you look at the GPL, it limits you much more in terms of distribution and selling
@Ferrybig Yes, it's not very restrictive and that's what I like about it. What i mean is that i add licence to all my scripts I post on the site ( they also go up on github as well ) . So some users see "Oh, there's copyright there" and hesitate
The Microsoft license is more worst than GPL. :D
Fun fact: all Stack Exchange code posts are also MIT
@serg i heard youre the master of nvidia unity multimonitoring
09:41
@Videonauth remove the words master and nvidia , replace them with know something about
How can i help ?:)
hehe well then we maybe able to sort my video cards later or at the weekend
i cant seem to get my third monitor to run
but it is not the usual two GPU pcie setup
one of the cards is PCI
@cl-netbox knows about nvidia quite a lot , he may be of much more help that me
wel for nt i have to get ready for my second doctors appointment today
doctors appointment ? Hope that's a mere checkup and nothing serious
talking about the results of this mornings checkup examination
nothing serious
just regular diabetes care
09:47
I see. Well , I suppose i should get ready as well, but for sleep. I need to fix my jet lag somehow

it didnt let me choose to flag it because i flagged this answer already as NAA

@Videonauth Audits are crap. They are also not actually aimed at you but at people who blindly click through the reviews to get a badge. Don't worry about failing them. It happens to all of us.
yeah but still sucks :p

funny thing is i flagged this answer before i got it in the autod and could not flag it again
which would have been te appropiate action

@Videonauth I know. You do get used to it eventually.
10:42
@ByteCommander - What happened to filing a meta post about the script :)
Is there any working flash player in Ubuntu 16.04?
@Masi Google Chrome
@AndroidDev It does not work.
@Masi could you get more specific?
@Videonauth Put it on meta.
@AndroidDev I installed it again with apt-get, but I cannot find it anyhere.
10:52
@Videonauth once you come back, check the /etc/init.d/checkfs.sh file. Perhaps it holds a clue to your boot message question
@Masi What is it that you can't find?
@AndroidDev Correction. I installed the .deb package from their website. I cannot find the launcher of the application.
Although I got the notice of successful installation.
@Masi Run google-chrome-stable from terminal.
Is Google's .deb package corrected? There was some bug there that it could not be installed.
masi@masi:~$ go
gold gouldtoppm
There is no such program after installation.
user136984
You know, I spent ages using Nautilus's search facility to find a file on my system, after about 15 minutes of it searching my computer it found absolutely nothing, or so it claims... I decided to search for the file just in case using locate in Terminal, instantly it found it! :D
user136984
10:58
Didn't even take it 1 second and Nautilus took 15 minutes and still didn't find anything! :D
user136984
I think I'm going to stop trusting the GUI for my searches...
user136984
Though I would have thought that they both search through the same indexing database.
@ParanoidPanda gui uses real time search = slow
if you put a file on your system locate aint going to find it until the -next- time locate database is updated
so it both has its negatives
@Rinzwind How can you change the search to database type? not real time.
user136984
What really gets me is that it didn't even find anything... Maybe it decided to be "helpful" and not show me config files.
11:01
@ParanoidPanda Or hidden...
@ParanoidPanda it might also not show you files you do not own
(not sure though)
user136984
It wasn't hidden...
user136984
@Rinzwind: That would be rather annoying...
11:25
@Rinzwind However, sudo updatedb && locate FILENAME is still usually faster than find - it's not that flexible, but fast for simple searches for the full filename in all locations.
@AndroidDev It will come as soon as I have enough consecutive time.
@ByteCommander yeah well... I always thought someone should edit the cp, mv and other utils to update the entry in the database :P
@ByteCommander That very much depends on what you're searching for. I would only use that as an alternative to find /. Otherwise, find will probably be faster than updatedb.
11:42
@Serg yeah thought of that too, or to change the initramfs i think in there a fsck is running as well
12:27
@Braiam: Posts are certainly not yours. If you do not like what I write use the flag system instead. Please stop editing.
@LuísdeSousa was my answer to your question satisfactory on my nomination post?

Q: rsyslog: how to log to one of multiple log servers

MohanI have a server that generates a lot of log content (single log file), and want to send it out to say 4 backends. I do not want all entries to be duplicated to every backend, but, say, rotate among them. Does rsyslog (Ubuntu 14.10) support this?

Hello friends :D
I need some help
please....
How do I upload my PGP keys to keyserver.ubuntu.com ?

I gpg --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --send-key <my pub key (8 characters )> , It was successful (I think) , but I cant find its fingerprints on keyserver.ubuntu.com
12:44
gpg --fingerprint <key>
what is sub btw ?
my private key ?
I am new to this....
I dont know what details I can share and what not to .
Ah.. got it :D
13:12
@LuísdeSousa you obviously have problems with people editing your post. That's fine. But we are not going to stop editing posts just because you don't like it. If you don't like it, maybe SE is not cut for you.
Apparently, I have no life when I wrote this response, though I was waiting on my work system to turn on heh
also real tempted to apply for moderator again, but eh
Oh... man . why is this launchpad telling me "This image is not exactly 192x192 pixels in size" even if it is ??
any ideas what might be wrong ?
@ThomasW. ha! After my comments I would like to have no business with that question
@SeverusTux Misrepresentation of size by your system
@Braiam heh. How fortunate my answer is 'nice' enough to touch on the key points in a way that is hard to argue against, and of course is just an opinion. I get enough backlash, and the mods get pinged to shut the users up.
@ThomasW. ah.. that might be it, but how do I make an image exactly 196 x 196 pix ?? I used Gimp .. and this is happening
13:18
Meh, we shouldn't need moderators to wipe users up to shape, we have "tools" for that
@Braiam I mean to lock them from posting inflammatory comments.
TBH I want to clean up the comments on that meta post
because there's things that need purgified
ah, yeah, that can be bad,
there's some "not constructive" flags now
Real tempted to apply for moderator though... :/
I may not post a ton of questions anymore, but I do know how to clean things up :P

@ThomasW. Do it.

How do I 'allow.allow' multiple ports on sshd?!
Oli
Oli
@blade19899 "Allow" or "listen on"?
If you want to listen on multiple ports, apparently, multiple Port 123 lines are supported.
eg, for both port 22 and port 2222:
Port 22
Port 2222
@Oli The user is being argumentative, at some point I'm going to have to say "Listen, you are free to have your opinions, but we are not the maintainers, and we cannot know their policy - if there's no published policy you cannot assume we would be able to have the answer when we don't maintian the PPA"
that's a valid non-disrepsectful reply right?
Oli
Oli
Or, I'm sure, you could redirect the traffic with iptables but it starts to become hairy to maintain when you have configuration like that split over many systems.
@Braiam I do not have problems with editions from any other users except you. Please keep away.
@Videonauth Yes. Thank you.
aaaand I put my nomination for moderator in. :P
14:10
@Oli Thanks helping I guy out with: nginx, hhvm, php-fml and a bunch of other software I haven't even heard of xD
@Oli can you nuke this please from orbit --> askubuntu.com/a/784901/522934
@LuísdeSousa If you have a problem with my edits, it's your problem, not mine.
@ThomasW. i can understand your concerns, I doubted that I will have a chance in the election, but then again I thought, I would not know how it would have turned out if I not tried it, so theres my nomination :)
@Videonauth cough
^ that is where that should've been - since i nominated myself i'm there too
@Oli can you move that last ping to me from here to the election room?
14:26
@Braiam As these messages show, you are indeed a problem. Please leave me be.
@LuísdeSousa nope
I will edit any post I deem necessary of edition, if you have a problem with that flag it.
@Pilot6 is that a welsh terrier or a airedale?
@blade19899 fml? 0_0?
I mean, sure, PHP makes many people feel like that but...
its fpm no?
@JourneymanGeek my bad, meant php-fpm
@LuísdeSousa I looked at some of Braiam's edits, they're edits I would have done if he had not already done them, as well. Consider that this site is designed to accept edits from the community - Braiam's edits are valid in my opinion - the fact he does a lot of them just means he reads every question heh. There's no issue with him attacking you with edits - your opinion on his edits is only yours, so this is more a case of you perceiving an issue where none exists, in my opnion
failing that, if you have an issue with how your posts are edited, consider a Meta post on the issue to get the community-at-large's opinion
rather than arguing here.
@blade19899 ahh, I use that with lighttpd ;)

@ThomasW. This edition was made so that he could insert a different answer: askubuntu.com/posts/775582/revisions
@ThomasW. There were similar cases in the past. I would just like Braiam to leave alone.

But you don't have Chrome installed?
Then it's normal output

Interesting, but what about the other error, not being signed and failing because of an insecure repository?
@RPiAwesomeness Oh, wait, I just saw the olav-st repo, but it's still normal (a problem on their end)
Ah
But I got the key?
I'm not an expert on the issue, but I don't think they have it set up right on their end.
Or maybe you haven't imported the key correctly?
Yeah, I followed the instructions here
hmm, as long as you ran wget in the same dir you were in when you imported the key, that should be ok
16:08
Yeah, and I got OK back from apt-key
I still think it's on their end, but I don't want to speculate.
