I do believe it was too harsh what they did. even if there was a voting abuse a topic that has 300+ upvotes should not have the vote deleted. I myself would assume if 300+ others agree something is good that even -that- vote should stay :P
A post quickly gets 3 votes from friends and that will artificially increase its score and will lead to more votes incoming from non suspecting members.
@jokerdino But still, the result is a punishment. Looking at the score per year I am lower then last year now, while I am much more active on the site. As mentioned, I don't trust the algorithms without having seen them.
@JacobVlijm also, this is the first time its happened to this scale, there's probably going to be some fallout, and trying to work out how this could have been communicated better

Having lost the points is not nice but part of how the system works. I upvoted good, helpful and useful answers. Serial upvoting ? When members write many good answers, they get many upvotes and there are some members who write much more good answers than others, so they get more upvotes ... so supporting their effort is nothing bad for me ... and I think I also helped many users ...
but ... please tell me : Shall I stop writing correct answers because I receive upvotes - does it make sense at all ? Shall I stop voting for good answers from members like @A.B. @Fabby @JacobVlijm @Serg and others ? Maybe we have to overthink the whole voting system ?
@jokerdino So what do you say ? Shall I continue to contributing to the site ? I joined AU mainly to help unexperienced users to solve their problems. Is it my fault when I receive upvotes from members who appreciate my effort ?
@cl-netbox it's not a matter of "fault". It's just that upvoting posts because of their author and not because of their content is against the rules. I don't know the details here, but I think that's what happened. So many such votes were invalidated. That doesn't mean what you posted was not good, only that (I guess) some people were giving you too many votes because they liked you.
Customer tried to mail me a screenshot of his credentials, Gmail didn't allowed him, saying there are username and password in this screenshot. Couldn't send me the email xD
@terdon yes ... I know ... some people like me ... some maybe not ... but my answers in most of the cases are correct, well researched, tested, working and useful ... so when I receive upvotes for them, I think it should be okay - right ? :)
@muru we are trying to get new hands with the view that these people stop flagging more and getting them to handle some on their own. Win-win in my books.

hahaha,... here is what happened just now : I wrote an answer, OP said "thanks Severus" then he did not accept it, Instead he wrote same answer with a few extra lines to his own question.
@SeverusTux Most likely because they're used to/expect a 'forum' (like ubuntuforums.org) where you simply say "[SOLVED]" in the title. They don't know of anything like an accept button. Maybe we should show new users how to upvote and accept answers before they post their question. And when they answer their own question.

Well thats true. But as I said, OP has accepted answers before on AU. ... hm.. its okay with me. He got the answer, and the people who visits this Q with same problem will also get the answer. So acceptance is not a problem.
