12:00 AM
Are we going to finally see Mir in 17.04 (Zany Zebra)?

Aren't they still officially saying 16.10? or did I miss something?

Nope. They've punted on that. Again.

oh ok
@NathanOsman I'm installing Hawaii in Fed24 right now. It's an underpowered machine, so we'll so how it goes.

I'm curious to see what it looks like.

It's installing several lxqt packages as it goes, so that might be a clue.
Ok, here goes the log out and log in...
@NathanOsman Well, it looks like a big, red screen that says "The system ran into a problem that it couldn't handle."

12:16 AM
So the MC server wrapper I use is in development for a huge upgrade, with different locations for server files and a different API.
All my API stuff will be broken, but it's supposedly going to be much easier to use the API, and there is going to be proper documentation this time :D

I advise nobody to type this into a terminal:
nc rya.nc 1987
Waits for someone to do it...

coool.
what's going on there?

wat

@NathanOsman So Hawaii is not going to run until wayland is finished, but notably for the first time Gnome on Wayland runs fine (wiki says right now they're only working on wayland gnome compat)

@NathanOsman Scaaaaaaaary: nc: getaddrinfo: Name or service not known

12:25 AM
@Zacharee1 You must have done something wrong...

Do I need to be on a specific version of Ubuntu?
this is my 15.10 GNOME VM
Has Wily reached EOL?
So I found the guy developing CyanogenMod for my phone: blaustein.eps.jhu.edu/~hbadr1

No, not yet.

Then why are all my sources returning 404?
could not reesolve hmmm

@Zacharee1 a copy of your errors would be nice.
could not resolve is DNS and means either the domain went away or there's a network issue on your end

Or I just dont have a connection

12:30 AM
that too ("Network issue" :P)

@Zacharee1 you're still here.

cable unplugged? This is a VM!
@NathanOsman I'm on the host
gtg

You can simulate a cable being disconnected in a VM...
I do that all the time to the Windows VMs that don't let you turn off Windows Update :D

@NathanOsman I've installed in on my laptop, it is to the point that they got the store going with a few steps, and chrome ran

Oh?
Which packages do I need to try it out?

12:35 AM
Oh let me get the post from micheal
Then a small bit of depandancy hunting on those core apps, and it was just about there
then for running chrome, and other xapps
a small bit of terminal work or desktop file tweaking to run them with xmir

@Seth Just in case you have not seen this yet, here is the link to sign up for editing wiki's now. launchpad.net/~ubuntu-wiki-editors

@WildMan oh very nice. They aren't removing members access tho right?

@WildMan This would be for non-Members right?
'cause I still have access

@Seth I just checked and I can still sign in but all staff that will be editing wiki's on the forum are also applying for membership at that link.
@Seth I think eventually to be able to edit we all have to sign up their but I am waiting on clarification either way

12:54 AM
Intresting, I know I usually edit as I find things that need, think the last thing was change version numbers for the dvd decription page

@WildMan I requested membership

@Mateo they had a lot of spam so they are attempting to get it under control

yeah, wonder why there isn't more systems like stack

@chaskes I did to but I am still waiting.

We'll see what happens.

1:17 AM
Let's make the VM connection a bridge
now it says Connecting
and still

@Seth and Thomas.w I was just told that as long as we already can edit wiki's then we do not need to apply at that link it is only for new people.

cool

@WildMan I got approved

@chaskes that is great!

Is there a blueprint page for what to work on or do I just dive in?

1:30 AM
Just a minute I was reading about that a few minutes ago I need to find a link.
@chaskes help.ubuntu.com/community/WikiGuide that should help.

@WildMan Great,thanks.

This is killing me:
I'm so tickled at the idea of a "checkup" for a corpse who's been cold and had no heartbeat for an hour. "Well, doctor, how is he?" — Dan Russell May 25 at 21:02
"The prognosis isn't very good." — paste May 25 at 21:30
LOLOLOL.

lol

@chaskes there may be wiki's that need editing for Ask Ubuntu specifically maybe seth can tell you better then I about that

Welcome back @Serg!

1:35 AM
@chaskes Well first of all, you need to write TROLOLOLOLOL for the title of every article
then you'll be properly initiated

@Zacharee1 Well, ok, if you say so. ;)

:p

@Seth If you have any wiki editing suggestions (as suggested by WildMan), please let me know.

@chaskes touch nothing :P

1:40 AM
lol

nah i'm kidding, basically, don't edit things you aren't sure about
and certain areas are "don't touch" but are marked as such

@chaskes I stay pretty far away from the wiki if I can help it ;P

@ThomasW. Well, I've got to say touching things I know nothing about is not really my style. And by implication I'm asking about the parts with an implicit "Please fix me"

I like the AU format because someone else has to think up the question, whereas wiki format you have to think up the question and the answer.

@ThomasW. that is true, I created a wiki it took me a month of testing different ubuntu versions and then someone edited with completely wrong information and I had to go and fix there edits.

1:44 AM
@WildMan confirmed from the Gods that Ubuntu Members need not apply to the group

I already have write access there.
I can edit pages.

@ThomasW. that is good to know

@NathanOsman can edit pages? WERE DOOMED

yeah I just talked to popey

@Seth oh hey you contacted the same Ubuntu Wiki Gods that I did heh

1:46 AM
hehe

@Seth you might like the G2. It's pretty modular inside. There are a few screws for covers, but then everything else is either snapped in or stuck down, and it's obvious where stuff goes

I like that.

obviously, the adhesive wears away, but some Scotch tape or glue... :p
Just be careful with the screen. You break the digitizer and you can't use the phone

You do not want to know what the inside of a Nexus 5 looks like.

o_O
why does that sound so creepy?

1:52 AM
because it is heh

...

nah, just kidding. Though, taking apart any phone, i've found them all to be evil/creepy

wait, did LG make the Nexus 5?

Yes.

Because it looks almost exactly like the inside of the G2 does

1:55 AM
There's me soldering off the power button.

oh right, why were you doing that?

and why is VMWare not giving network access to Ubuntu? I just made a fresh VM
o_O

@Zacharee1 has nothing to do with VMware not giving access
and everything to do with whether the adapters are configured on your host machine
correctly.

idk how they would be

1:57 AM
what VMware solution, Player?

does anyone know if kernel headers and dkms is installed by default in ubuntu mate 16.04?

VMWare is supposed to do that
Yeah, Player

@Zacharee1 did you reboot after installing Player (doesn't matter if host is Linux or Windows)?

@ThomasW. yeah, 5 months ago
(I've had it installed for a while)

@Zacharee1 is the Bridged adapter set to the correct host network interface (so it uses an 'up' one)?

1:58 AM
uh

I have three NICs on this computer, so for Workstation (godly form of PLayer with a lot more features) I have to make sure the NIC is connected to my wifi adapter for Bridged rather than otherwise.
@Zacharee1 unless you only have one NIC on your host, and that's connected, you may wish to use NAT
because I don't think Player gives the vNet settings config window anymore

It is using NAT

NAT isn't going to let you access other devices on your local network.
You need bridged mode for that. At least in VirtualBox.

Bridged mode at least makes it so the adapter is in an infinite Connecting loop
I just want internet

@Zacharee1 DHCP?

1:59 AM
yes

@Zacharee1 NAT should work for Internet.

^ that

Can you ping 8.8.8.8?

well it just says cable unplugged

@Zacharee1 go into the VM settings

2:00 AM
No, it says cable unplugged

Oh, the whole interface is down.

go to the virtual network adapter

yes

does it show "Connected"?

Does the VM have the cable connected?

2:00 AM
NO

THEN CONNECT IT.

in the VM, it says unplugged

@Zacharee1 before you say waht the VM does or doesn't say
@Zacharee1 answer my question

@Zacharee1 In the VM - does that mean the hypervisor or the virtualized operating system?

2:01 AM
@ThomasW. he then goes on to spamping me

1 min ago, by Thomas W.
@Zacharee1 go into the VM settings
1 min ago, by Thomas W.
go to the virtual network adapter

let me answer something before you ask something else

does it have the "Connected" check box

@NathanOsman STOP

I had to correct the spelling...

2:02 AM
That's all I see
it's grayed out

"Connected" at the top is greyed out.
@Zacharee1 s/gray/grey/

@Zacharee1 is the VM in a powered off state right now

yes
I can't edit the settings if it's on

@Zacharee1 and the host is Windows?

Yes
@NathanOsman s/imamerican

2:04 AM
go into the Network Adapters page where you can list the whole set of network adapters on the system in Windows
screenshot

It's messier than the Nexus 5

@Zacharee1 "grey" is the American spelling...

Are you ready?
@NathanOsman uh
> Grey is the preferred spelling in British English, but gray is more common in American English.
www.quickanddirtytips.com/education/grammar/gray-or-grey

Wat.
You mean all this time...

2:05 AM
O_O_O

@NathanOsman -_-

@Zacharee1 hey if I downgrade does gnome downgrade too?

It goes to whatever 14.04 came with

video drivers update with time too?

assuming you're actually doing a fresh install
yes

2:16 AM
yes fresh install
ok

It's just 14.04; you know how it works

im a newb bro

well you used 14.04, didn't you?

ok Ill give it a shot
nope just 16.04
the problem with this is
graphics drivers are sub par
I think
also getting error at boot NO UMS support in radeon module

@Zacharee1 Windows Firewall, or firewall inside of your antivirus?

2:18 AM
I think my firewall is off
I do have Malwarebytes

try turning that off for a sec and test

windows... xP

I can't disable MB o_O
I think it doesn't have real-time protection

did you check internet connection?

@Zacharee1 I should point out that there are a lot of headaches from a Virtualization perspective on Windows hosts, VMware or not
NAT should work out of the box
if you just applied VMware updates, restart
if you haven't, see if there's any fixpacks or such

2:26 AM
Well there's a small update
Guess I'll try it

@Zacharee1 which version of Player if I may ask?

12.1.0 right now

ok

getting 12.1.1

@Zacharee1 It took me actually an hour to get the firewall working right on Windows with my Vmware Workstation setup
I assume this is a home computer
or your computer... not a workplace computer

2:36 AM
yeah
Firewall is off though AFAIK
yep, off on Private, Domain and even Public

@Zacharee1 which was the "yeah" in reply to, this being your own computer and not a workplace one?

home

okay, if you had said 'workplace' i'd say contact IT, workplace networks are far more tricky to make work
that said, I have two dedicated hypervisors now, so my VMware Workstation/Player machines are mostly in disuse :)

I'm just going to give up on it for tonight
tomorrow, I'll reinstall VMWare

Have you tried Hyper-V?

2:49 AM
@NathanOsman not available last I checked for Windows editions less than Pro / Professional?

Oh.
I didn't realize we weren't talking Pro here.

@NathanOsman Not sure, because E:NotTold
VMware can work on all versions of Windows.

Doesn't Hyper-V have a standalone server edition though that's free?

@Zacharee1 Windows version? And is it a home edition, or pro edition, or what?

7 Ult

2:51 AM
@NathanOsman I don't think so - embedded / free in Server editions, but...
3
Q: How to enable Hyper-V on Windows 7?

Jeroen BollenI am trying to enable Hyper-V on a windows 7 installation. I followed the instructions on MSDN without luck. There is no "Hyper-V" setting under my Windows Features. I do have all BIOS features enabled, and I can confirm this using the "coreutils" tool as described on the linked documentation....

it's a server-side feature
so no-go for Windows endpoint OS installs
(Win7 Ultimate for example)

The VM used to work fine, so I'm just thinking it's VMWare

@NathanOsman windows 8 and up maybe, but not windows 7
@Zacharee1 possibly. You may need to restart the system though

idc
just want to sleep rn

if it hasn't been rebooted in an eternity
ah, okay
well, bedtime for me because I have to be up early tomorrow. Good night, everyone!

3:12 AM
@Serg seems like a question for you askubuntu.com/q/789484/15003

@edwinksl thanks will look into it

ez rep ;)

-15, op unaccepted my script and made his own
:/

that's piracy

Funny thing is that he also used main function in his own script
Terdon can be proud of me now lol
@edwinksl well , not exactly piracy . He wrote his own script which uses /sys/class/*/backlight instead of using qdbus like i do , something didn't work for him

3:18 AM
i guess that's the price to pay for not using your script
things become broken
did you figure out the problem with your script for brightness?
the +1 hack

@edwinksl well that's the reason he wrote his own script - mine didn't work for him. Remember the one with remembering brightness at AC or battery ? that's the one

ah
so using .../backlight works without using that +1 hack?

@edwinksl it does but you have to use sudo for that script AND convert from actual number that the graphic card understands to percentage and so on and so forth

3:35 AM
But I got another answer accepted , yey
Loose some and win some

slow down please, i need to catch up

lol , I am actually one of the slowest people around . Especially when it comes to eating.

I quoted everything properly yo !

Hello :D :D

3:53 AM

3 generation bug O.o

O_o
I'm skeptical though...

I don't quite understand this , If I do any edits on any post, its changes instantly. But some times I see `edit(1)` and If I approve it, Then it waits for another person to approve!. If I give "Improve Edit", and improve it, It changes instantly.
I don't get why edits requires two approves ? System doesn't trust me ? Well then why my edits do changes instantly ?

Ah.
Now to figure out why this ModelSerializer is making fields up out of thin air...

4:07 AM
zenity's checklist is very useful, but not with long strings . . . .sigh . . .and why it only works with arrays ? Why can I just use expansion ?

4:28 AM
hey guys is there a way to improve the radeon driver, with options like antiliasing openGL and other features
anyone?
running ubuntu 16.04 with the open source driver but it lacks openGL 4.1 for some games
anyone knows how to improve it?
@ci-netbox hey bud is there a way to improve open source driver?

@SeverusTux intriguing question about gnome software

And yet another script is almost ready
arranging 3 windows

this is why you cannot be a mod
if you become a mod, will you have time to write scripts

I am sure I can balance it out
I write scripts at work
which is sort of laid-back work
but then again this is also why i don't complete all of my homework, only part of it

AU needs you more

4:59 AM
@Serg You are just too good. We don't want you to Spend time in clearing Flag Queues where you could do better stuffs like this.

eh . . . my stuff isn't that good of a quality anyway
But thanks for the kind words @edwinksl and @SeverusTux

night all

I've drafted a small script that asks for selecting 3 windows out of a list of all open windows, and will arrange them side by side. This script is still in development , very rough, but I'd like to know what you think of this so far. Script source is here Keep in mind, you need to have xdotool installed in order for this to work — Serg 21 secs ago

I modified the Samsung Over The Horizon to a s4 version.
Oh, new mods?

yup, election closed today

5:09 AM
How elections pass so fast.

em . . . they're over already

I meant (how elections go so quickly)

oops, sorry, my eyes deceived me, i thought it was "pass so far "
Yeah, it's been only what , 8 days for elections ? 4 days of primaries, then 4 days of actual elections
Meanwhile , this guy has another scripting idea . . . . . . .

What are your evil, cackling plans now?
\

You'll see, hehe >:)

5:14 AM
Some Unix Hell?

Oh, no . Something that has to do with desktop background . . . and periodic change of it

oh

@Serg , Did you know this ? jokerdino's last answer was on Nov 29 2013 , StefanoPalazzo 's last answer was on Jun 2015, Seth - may 29 .
See ? they are doing other stuffs. You still believe you could balance ? Even If you could, It will still have effect.

Poor Tea-rex

hehe, i like that : tea-rex

@Serg You have command-line badge, could you throw somr light on askubuntu.com/questions/790034

I wish I grew legs and scribble stuff.

:P
But typos are okay as long as you can understand them. My opinion.

Even on your profile picture @SeverusTux
I will scribble a windows logo.

Windows.. :O ewww....

5:23 AM
I will spread WinRabies on your tux penguin
I can flag tho.... :D

@SeverusTux i am pretty sure Ubuntu already does have something like that. I'll look into it

@SeverusTux FEEL THE PAIN

Ah and good morning to you too.

@SeverusTux Now drink the second bottle of pain!

5:33 AM

@JourneymanGeek You voted though, right? :)

5:56 AM
@NathanOsman I kiiinda missed that too
I voted in the primaries

Fair enough.
