anyone knows where the X configuration file lies ?
want to backup it before i make changes via NVIDIA X Server setting

@Videonauth most modern systems do it using xrandr and its automatic

i just want to have a backup in case it hitches again

if you have one its /etc/X11/xorg.conf or something like that

nope only havin the xorg.conf.failsave which when selected in boot sends my mainboart into a beeping maraton :D
problem is i have two nvidia cards, not running SLI, nor sharing the pcie slot
one of them sitting in a normal pci slot

9:57 AM
Yeah, my guess is its automatically set up

the main card runs perfectly, but the second wont
im really at a loss here
the second card isnt a powerfull one she only shall support my wacom tablet
wacom cintiq 12wx
well ill try it and make an xorg.conf file then in worst case i have to delete ist

367 is out?

michael@NEXUS-ONE:~$ apt-cache policy nvidia-367

So it sees them both

yep but my tablet shows no screen still

enabled in Settings?

how so this is what im looking for the whole day long

Like Settings>>Monitor>>Make sure the monitor's enabled

it doesnt see ith there

2:15 PM
hmm

but in that nvidia x server config programm it gets seen

How many times have you rebooted?

dozens of times

idk then
Gotta backup and wipe TouchWiz now
So that I can try JasmineROM

2:18 PM
Click the third monitor in the NVIDIA program
What are the options?

new x screen but that doesnt cut it either
means i can enable it but it doesnt do anything

hmm

i can save this then as an xorg.conf file but as far i understand ubuntu doesnt use that feature anymore

I think it can still use it, just not by default

2:57 PM
Question: Should I get a debloated 5.1.1 stock ROM or should I put in extra effort and try getting the Note 5 port working so I can have "stock" Marshmallow

Here's the newborns:

ew :p

Ugliest things I've ever seen :D

It looks like a bunch of goop

Well she's been literally sitting on them.

3:07 PM
lol
80/107 apps backed up

Also, the color of the wall behind the nest tells a story :P

a what
Then I'll back up with Smart Switch and then try out a new ROM

Stupid autocorrect...

@NathanOsman how so?
the story
The poop?

It's covered with... stuff.

3:12 PM
hah .....

check the version number :p
and do an apt-cache policy codeblocks

Windows

nope

I'm in Windows

3:13 PM
ah ok
well normal ubuntu repo version is 13.02

ah
You're a little behind...

woot ?
im running 16.01
of codeblocks
fresh compiled :)

heh

but that tablet/monitor issue makes me angry slowly

darn, Android has no apt-get :p
@Videonauth heheheheheheh

3:17 PM
as well a not working bluetooth adapter

lol

i wonder how i can make it honor the xorg.conf file I just made

Anyone know how to recover data from a ZIP archive with a corrupted directory signature?
Because I have one.

So what do people think? Somewhat easy debloated 5.1.1 stock, or somewhat difficult debloated 6.0 Note 5 port?
@NathanOsman magical Zippy unzippifier zippedifer

5.1.

3:22 PM
OK

Marshmallow has some... issues...

CM works great
This is for my stock TouchWiz dual-boot image

You're making Zach second guess his decision to go to college :P

This is a half-semester summer class

Anonymous
3:51 PM
@Zacharee1 think of it this way. Someone ended their quote analysis of the book with "The End". I think you'll do fine :-)

lol

@onebree where does that fall compared to the quarterly system?

Anonymous
Uhhhhh... This college has 3 summer sessions -- May 16-June 27, June 6-Aug something, July something to Aug something

oh ok. So it's partly so crazy because you only have ~1 month to do it.

Anonymous
Otherwise semesters are typically end-of-aug or start-of-september, through before xmas... Then mid/late Jan through mid May

Anonymous
3:53 PM
6 weeks

right. Whereas a quarter is 11.
(here, at least)

:( i can do what i want it doesnt want as i want

Anonymous
1 quarter is 15 weeks, although there is a slightly accelerated 11 weeks for those who register late, but that may be a community college thing

Anonymous
unless it'll run on verizon...

Anonymous
3:59 PM
@Mateo I don't trust Gleam polls, because they require to see my twitter password

Pushing 1.5GB over adb takes forever

You mean unless verizon will run it?
that is the one that is without sim card right?

Verizon uses SIM cards now that they use LTE

yeah but that only covers the LTE band.
They still use CDMA for the rest..

Yeah, but the SIM card is only for registration on the network

4:05 PM
@Zacharee1 no, you still need a NAC.

@Seth a what?

@Zacharee1 network access code (aka CDMA)

Oh
But I've switched my SIM card multiple times between phones and it just registers the new one
OK, wiping TouchWiz. Wish me luck :/

@Mateo a#$JHFE# he pronounces it "you-buntu" >.>
not sure I can watch this.

Let him know the right way to pronounce. Don't do nothing.

4:08 PM
o_O

will do.

I either say "oo-bun-too" or "oo-boon-too"

Anonymous
Which is the correct way?

It's technically oo-boon-too
But I say oo-buhn-too because it's easier

4:10 PM
wow at least my video grabber card works oob

heh
Flashing JasmineROM

thats good because i have no TV
my computer is my TV

lol
It says it's installing :D

this i have not found out how to switch this third monitor on

Ugh, failed. I guess it has to be done in Recovery
@Videonauth magic?

4:13 PM
@Zacharee1 sledgehammer magic ?

that'll do
What interface is it using? VGA, HDMI, DVI?

dvi i think

@Zacharee1 he's running dual, dissimilar video cards

Any other options?
@JourneymanGeek ik
OK. Installing from Recovery

also DVI is obvious and very big

4:14 PM
nope not for the tablet only dvi
the cards are both running but the additional drivers tab shows weird outputs

Weird

but if i do an pspci -vnn i get that both cards running on nvidia driver
like i posted earlier

Anonymous
Do you think it's alright if I mention code smells, but the "problem" in the essay is not a real code smell?

Anonymous
I mean, I doubt the professor would know

Anonymous
@Videonauth post everything in a single gist.

4:20 PM
the wacom tablet even is recognized in lsusb so thats not the problem
just the screen shows no output
my other two screens work flawlessly on the 750 Ti
did even work flawless with a clean 16.04 install and propitiatory drivers

So the files in the Primary /system were set to "immutable," which meant they couldn't be changed
I had to unset the flag and then it let me delete the files
Looks like it may be working
Yay, the flash worked!
Hopefully I can reboot into it
Cool, default Samsung boot animation instead of that god-awful Verizon screen

Quick question: Could I use a Raspberry Pie with a wifi adapter to act as a man in the middle and forward all traffic between the two hosts? I know it is possible, but could I do it only with ip tables with PREROUTING and --to-destination ?
It's not a question about security (no arp poisonning/rogue dhcp). It's more about a device that is not in range to get any signal from anywhere so, there's a device in the middle that forward all the traffic he receives from that device and send it to the internet
by the internet, I mean : send to the router

5:33 PM
Is it ok to ask questions here? I think mine is more person specific so I don't think it'd be valuable to post on the site.
I've been getting really poor performance in vmware and I've been allocating more than enough resources. (2 cores, 3gb ram, 2gb vram). I think it's to do with my AMD processor. On my laptop which has a i7 with comparable benchmark performance to my FX-8350, everything runs peachy smooth.
Using Workstation Pro v12(provided by my school).

5:49 PM
@BobEbert I believe that this is possible. I am not sure about the technicalities, but I think you can use the pi as an intermediate

@onebree Yep, others told me the same thing, but no one actually is able to answer my question hahah

Anonymous
There IS a rpi site, but you need 20 rep to chat I THINK - raspberrypi.stackexchange.com

Anonymous
you could also go on irc for the rpi, or reddit

@BobEbert like a repeater? Totally possible, but I've only ever done it with an actual router running router firmware. Have you asked a question on the site yet? you can ask here if the pi is running ubuntu or Unix & Linux or Raspberry Pi.
@deadbeef you can ask, but that doesn't mean someone will help. It is usually best to formulate a proper question and ask on the main site.

@Seth It could be a real computer, it could be a vm, a Pie, whatever: I just wan't to understand how to forward traffic from a computer to the repeater to the router AND from the router to the repeater to the device

6:00 PM
@BobEbert right. I would definitely ask a real question somewhere, since this is going to be more complicated than can be easily hashed out in chat.
this might be helpful.

@Seth Thanks, and where should I ask the question?

@BobEbert I would ask on Unix & Linux if you're open to using things other than a pi if necessary.

thanks guys

6:37 PM
Is there any question with a 1,000 upvotes or more?

nope
highest I can find so far would be 795.

@jokerdino of course there will be one somewhere :=D
he never said on AU :-P

lol

Jon Skeet will have one >:-D

in that case, there should be plenty

I will be the first to ask a question with a 1,000 upvotes or more on askubuntu!
next year.

Q: Why is processing a sorted array faster than an unsorted array?

GManNickGHere is a piece of C++ code that shows some very peculiar performance. For some strange reason, sorting the data miraculously speeds up the code by almost 6x: #include <algorithm> #include <ctime> #include <iostream> int main() { // Generate data const unsigned arraySize = 32768; in...

Q: How to Find LaTeX generated PDF files?

MasiI need to find LaTeX Generated PDF files because I want to find those files made by me. I think find could possibly work here. TouchWiz Marshmallow is booting!

why touchwhiz, why

Because it has S-Pen features

ah

Don't worry, it's been debloated and a theme engine's been added
And I still have CM13 in my secondary boot slot
I'm just replacing the default TW, since 5.1.1 is terrible
This boot process is supposed to take 15 mins

dat moment when you accidentally click "unlock from launcher" on a disk drive

7:28 PM
oh yesh
lel
This Samsung boot animation is like the Windows one. It draws itself in and then just pulses
Hmm. The instructions want me to flash SuperSU 2.46, but the latest is 2.72
Should I risk the new version, or do what they say?
Hey! It booted! Way fewer than 15 minutes too
Heheheh. Google thinks I have a Note 5. That's a good sign
Why does it still look like KitKat TouchWiz?
I can have a four-color gradient as my statusbar
