@cl-netbox i don't see any reason for downvote. The only thing I would recommend you edit is this part: "I have replaced libavcodec57 with libavcodec-extra57 manually after installing ffmpeg. Executing sudo apt install libavcodec-extra57 uninstalls libavcodec57 automatically." You say first you had to manually replace it, but then you say it gets replaced automatically. Needs more clarity there

for whatever reason that works with /etc/passwd and another file i created

aha, found it . . . i had .decode() in exception field, so i was already decoding the bytes

so I went into the server room this morning, to power cycle a switch that was not responding, and accidentally brushed against the 240v circuit plug that comes in from the outside. Turns out that's not properly shielded or grounded necessarily, so the static electricity that I zapped with due to the cold weather zapped me with about half the voltage of the circuit

somehow i'm still alive

and now i look like an evil crazy mad scientist with my hair on end xD

240V shocks are pretty painful

I was fixing an iMac and forgot to unplug it before I did the next tweak

and ouch

that was a fun 6 hours in A&E

indeed.

240v doesn't faze me too much, not after the eighty or so 120v zaps I've gotten in the past 6 months
