10:00 PM
also I find that some code I copy paste from the Internet indents four spaces and when I double click to select the line it takes the spaces with it, and I cant find the command again
@NathanOsman I think I had one like it, was the front screen notorious for breaking?

Not that I know of.
@edwinksl That was truly indestructible.
@Mateo The only thing I remember was the paint wearing off the buttons.

Looks similar to the one my brother started with.
Does anyone remember having a phone with Bluetooth and using BitPIM?

BitPIM? never heard.

Man, I was so excited when I found out that I could browse the phone's filesystem using a COM port hooked up to that.
@ByteCommander bitpim.org
"...and the Filesystem for most Qualcomm CDMA chipset based phones"
Which, of course, included mine.
I was able to work around a number of carrier limitations that way.
My carrier tried to restrict ringtones only to ones I purchased through them for $4 each. Nice try. A few minutes with BitPIM and I was able to directly inject my own MP3s into the filesystem.
I also managed to get Opera Mini working on the phone.
And since I had a "dumb" phone, my carrier didn't cap my bandwidth at all.
>:)
Yup... those were the days.

10:13 PM
I had a USB bluetooth dongle that came with a tool including a remote file browser.

since we're showing off our first phones..
I still have it.

Jeeez, not even color display?

@ByteCommander nope!
It was one awesome phone though. Spent hours playing Space Invaders on it.

which has an Android app btw. That game was super fun.

10:19 PM
@Seth since you are here, this user may need some of your caring attention askubuntu.com/questions/830052/…

I know my parents had this one some time ago:

@edwinksl sigh

For realz?
That looks older than me.

10:24 PM
it sure is
that's back in the 70's

interesting thing: they still do sell flip phones today

How did that still connect to networks in modern times?

10:25 PM
@NathanOsman the old talk-only broadband is still out

Double O_o

you can still have broadband without actual data

I'm pretty sure any analog towers up here have long since been abandoned.
I haven't seen any since about 2009 - even in remote areas.

most data towers also support analog
one extra antenna ;P

Not up here.
If I switch my old phone to analog-only mode, there is no signal from anywhere.

10:53 PM
I got my web server back up...anyone want to see it?

vimeo works for me

I tried this random video: vimeo.com/184717130

This video can’t be played with your current setup.

Facepalm: people rush in into teaching ruby in terminal while their students DONT BLOODY KNOW HOW TO NAVIGATE THE DAMN TERMINAL
God, i don't know whom to be mad at, the professor or the students

well, programming in ruby doesn't require much terminal knowledge though, basic cd, ls, mkdir, touch, nano and ruby should do most of what you will need?

My buddy doesn't even know how to cd or mkdir
I'd love to come and teach him,but my dog is sick today
i am not going anywhere

hope your dog gets better soon
your buddy can use gedit, but I think he will at least have to chmod the script to run without the terminal
which is harder to explain then the cd, etc commands :p

No need, he can use ruby -c

which requires terminal, but it's easier to explain then chmod
@edwinksl you use firefox by the way? If you use chrome maybe that's why you can run it and I can't

11:47 PM
My scripting answers get at most 1 or 2 upvotes on U&L , while this: unix.stackexchange.com/a/313561/85039 got 8 already. Sigh . . . my hard twerk is not appreciated enough :/
Hopefully, i can get a couple of bounties on AU ,though

@Serg twerk?

@Seth well, answering questions here is not exactly work, right ?

@IanC yeah, i have openh264 codec, flash, widevine and vlc

Twerking (/ˈtwɜːrkɪŋ/) is a type of dancing in which an individual, often female, moves to music in a sexually provocative manner involving thrusting hip movements and a low squatting stance. Twerking is also known as "booty shaking," "p-poppin" or pussy-poppin, and bounce depending on the context. == Etymology == The term seems to be of uncertain origin with common assumptions suggesting it represents a contraction of "footwork" or a portmanteau of the words "twist" and "jerk". The Oxford Dictionaries blog says "the most likely theory is that it is an alteration of work, because that word has...

therefore it's twerk

11:50 PM
not sure you want to use that term..

@IanC i did use firefox to try vimeo... but yeah i usually use chrome

@Seth facepalm I know what twerking is. I've watched enough Lexxy Pantera's videos. It's supposed to be le humor

@Serg oh. well I am bad at jokes, remember? ;)

@Seth i'd say your sense of humor is one of the best among AU mods :)

@edwinksl I think vimeo uses flash then, I think I'd rather download chrome than the flash plugin though
did you install the outdated flash?

11:55 PM
How does srcs/* turn into /* ?

probably he used something like:
INSTALLDIR="srcs"
rm -rf $INSTALDIR/*
