@Seth:whta do I do if I pressed the wrong button?
@Terrance: Someone stole your answer.
Could you still post one right now so I can upvote yours before going to sleep???

@Fabby OK Fabby, I will do that right now.

Three people in the Android chat room including me

@Fabby Thank you, by the way! =)

12:13 AM
A response!

Wow... the Launchpad builders must really be stuck.
I've had a queued build for nearly two hours.

@NathanOsman ?
Ah
It's nice having guaranteed 101 rep on every new SE site I join

@Terrance Ping me when you're done!

@Fabby Sure will.

I feel like the need to follow someone on Twitter to DM them is some sort of scam to gain companies more followers

12:27 AM
@Fabby Posted

@Fabby Just flag it outside of review. Now if you pressed the red button by mistake...
@Nathan ouch! I built something just earlier today, but it was before 12:00..

Wow. VZWSupport is actively avoiding my question

Seems to be slowly clearing now...

@Terrance Next time, post a link to your answer, so I don't have to look it up! :P

@Fabby Haha! Sorry, here it is askubuntu.com/a/694532/231142

12:31 AM
@Zacharee1 VZW is terrible.. :/

@Terrance too late! Upgoated already!

@Fabby That was my bad!
@Fabby :D

If I could afford a new phone I would ditch VZW in a heartbeat..
And I'm even on an MVNO!

Is is my ISP or is the site slow?

mvno?

12:33 AM

@Seth Will do! Thanks for the delete hammer!

A mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), or mobile other licensed operator (MOLO), is a wireless communications services provider that does not own the wireless network infrastructure over which the MVNO provides services to its customers. An MVNO enters into a business agreement with a mobile network operator to obtain bulk access to network services at wholesale rates, then sets retail prices independently. An MVNO may use its own customer service, billing support systems, marketing, and sales personnel, or it could employ the services of a mobile virtual network enabler (MVNE). == Background... ==

A: Find duplicates by filemane

SergBellow here's a find, sort and awk one-liner. Basic idea is to list files, sort them numerically ( which works, unless Aaaaaaa.bbb and tags are themselves are numbers ), and then let awk store each 3rd field of filenames into prev variable, and compare it with current value of field 3. If they ...

Critique plz . . . . anyone ?

@Serg Rep-whore! (upgoated)
;-)

lol

@Fabby hey, everybody needs upgoats form time to time XD
but seriously, though, assess my code plz
How's teh quality ?
I'm clocked out but still at work, because I was looking for a question or two to answer here

1:01 AM
I need them, but I don't ask :p

I know, im crazy right ?

Yes
Duh

@Zacharee1 I never really ask for upvotes, and at first when i was bellow 1k , I was never asking because I had nowhere to ask anyway. I didn't know chat existed
Mostly if I post a question in chat, I wanna know how's the quality of my answer, where can i improve

I didn't know it existed until like three months ago :p

@Serg I'm just wondering how fast it's going to run on 167000 files!!!

1:02 AM
Yeah, I know

@Zacharee1 Meh! I've done enough rain dances for you!

@Fabby wut

@A.B. that's for you askubuntu.com/q/694483/295286
@Fabby well . . . it's technically not running the files, it's just listing them and passes filenames on to awk , which only has to compare fields #3 . . . so I'd assume it will be fast enough ^_^

@Zacharee1 That's If you don't understand now, one day you will...

Woo! Nice job @Seth! 'grats on Ubuntu membership!

1:05 AM
Thanks @RPiAwesomeness!

@Fabby so confused...

@Serg The existing answer already tells him how to do it without an IDE...
Just command line!
@Zacharee1 Don't be.
Some people get it, some don't... @Serg doesn't get it either...

idk what you're talking about

@Zacharee1 I understand...
Too tired now.
Need sleep

*sigh*
bye then @Fabby

1:07 AM
Shutdown -h now

@Fabby I think I am getting it . . .kinda

Schlaffen Sie

@Fabby OK, gooooooooood nacht

@Serg Is there context I'm missing?
gute

@Serg Ah... Short rain dance for you and Zach before bed time then...

1:09 AM
@Fabby Shutdown: command not found
;)

@chaskes well, not if you capitalize it :p

@Zacharee1 Basically my understanding is that rain dancing has been a kind of way to summon . . . .rain . . . .in ancient times . . .so through posting or mentioning your own answer, you're doing a rain dance - summoning upvotes

ok...

@Zacharee1 That's the joke...he capitalized it. :)

Which not what my purpose . I seek critique not upvotes when i post questions. Though I don't mind extra points here and htere

1:11 AM
ohhh @chaskes
@Serg yeah
who did that?
thanks to whomever

Done dancing...
Good night!

@Fabby night and thanks

closing browser....
... NOW!

lol

That NOW is going pretty slow , it seems :)

1:18 AM
He never said he was leaving the chat room
If you had Nathan's userscript you would see he hasn't read to the most recent message

closing browser implies that . . . .
but he also could be using mobile app

If I close my browser, I won't have actually left the chat room
My icon will still be there

1:29 AM
@Serg is there a mobile app?

There's a mobile chat page, but no app, AFAIK.
(Although I do recall someone working on one...)

that "app" was just a redo of some additions to the mobile site.

@Zacharee1 yup, there's two apps actually - one for questions and stuff, the other - for chat
I have both on my mobile, but frankly . .. they're not top-notch
I usually just use firefox mobile

Chrome master race

1:37 AM
@NathanOsman ^--- come join the browser wars

Opera FTW.

a friend gave me a smoked tuna. It is soooooo good!

Sounds delicious.

Smoked fish...my one true friend.

1:56 AM
@NathanOsman isn't Opera Chromium?
@chaskes agreed

They're using Blink, yes.

@NathanOsman soo...

But it works more reliably than Chromium for me.

Get Torch if you have Windows

Edge works well enough on Windows.
Ducks.

2:00 AM
Not sure what to do with this askubuntu.com/review/late-answers/487359
@NathanOsman I actually love Edge

@Zacharee1 Yeah, I saw that one too.
Didn't know what to make of it.

It's so much better than IE and is faster than most browsers out there

Yeah, it's a huge improvement on IE. A tad buggy still but it works well most of the time.

It's not NAA, but it seems pretty much like the answer above it, with different words, as if it went thru GTranslate
@NathanOsman well it's completely new

Yeah, and they've dropped the concept of versions pretty-much so things can be pushed once they're fixed.

@Zacharee1 o/
@NathanOsman evening :)

@Ravan hallo
You know what? @NathanOsman I'm going to flag that weird window centering thing as extremely low quality or whatever it's called

@Zacharee1 don't

@Seth too late, but why?

2:14 AM
VLQ should be for stuff that is unsalvageable and needs to be outright deleted. This is neither.
It's not very high quality for sure, but it isn't what the VLQ flag was meant for. Downvote if you feel strongly that it isn't good :)

Hello seth :)
evening

@Seth It doesn't say what to do with what it has written there. Just a bunch of caps and then a string that seems to be a path, but without any instructions on how to use it.

@Zacharee1 it's not a path, it's a gconf URI :)
hi @Ravan!

@Seth and how is that used?

@Zacharee1 think of it like the registry.

2:19 AM
ok

I'm a bit confused here . . . For OP on the question that i am working on stat option %Y shows same modification date of the files . . .

you navigate to the path and change keys.

ah

basically it falls under:

Q: Your answer is in another castle: when is an answer not an answer?

Shog9I think we can all agree, this sucks: If you've been around a little while, you've probably encountered hundreds of answers like this in various forums, some of them even marked as "The Answer" by well-meaning1 forum admins looking to close a thread. We could try to enumerate the commonly-obse...

@NathanOsman Where's a good place to learn more about snappy?

thx!

2:50 AM
@Zacharee1 what is your question?

@Serg here around?

3:07 AM
@daBoss huh?

@Ravan on mobile. What's up

3:50 AM
16.04 to ditch Software Centre, use Gnome's Software. Also being ditched: brasero and empathy.
none of them really worked well anyway, so I don't much care.
Although I did use brasero on occasion.

4:14 AM
Sometimes I wish people would do a little research before writing comments on an answer
By the way, Hello @all o/

4:37 AM
@A.B. Hello! =)

@Terrance o/

@Ravan Hello! =) How are you?

@Terrance fine, OMG opening review is audit :)

@Ravan I think you did the right thing to keep it open. :)

yup
passed =)
my first post there :(

4:43 AM
I gave you a +1 to help out on that. =) That is odd that they would comment like that.

see my comment
I don't think everything in manual is self explanatory-- we need to think beyond
@Terrance I posted answer as well after a little research

Yep, I understand what you wrote, and you are correct. You question also asks what the restrictions of using one over the other might be, where man pages may not contain that info.
@Ravan Ah yes, I see that now. =) Good answer!

our AU far better ;)

Agreed! =D

@Terrance regarding our discussion about bare metal-- yesterday sudden power loss
we will discuss about that later?
Now busy with "awk",

4:50 AM
@Ravan Ah, yes, we can discuss that later. Probably not good for me tonight. =)
@Ravan awk is a good thing to learn. =)

yes, but I can't declare now--since I am at early stage in awk :P....but looking easier than C
@Terrance good night \o
@A.B morning :)

@Ravan Not going to sleep yet here. Doing some more research tonight. But, I think I might be going to bed before too long. I am getting really tired now. Long day at work.

5:15 AM
@Ravan frankly, I would strongly suggest going through awk first , especially write awk script files, and then go into C language. Big chunk of my rep on the site is due to awk, and I find it very useful in just my daily needs. With C it's a bit more different - you can develop programs that deal with a lot of things, but you have to think how to open a file, how to read it . In awk , it's all already taken care of, you just focus on logic of how you process a file
I actually wanna go back to studying C at some point, refresh the memories, and learn more advanced stuff. I passed basic C programming class with A, but by now my memory gets fuzzy

6:02 AM
Thanks snappy for overwriting my locally installed copy of Go...

@A.B. Good morning!

@Serg hello, thanks =),..but In academics I have C C++ Java and all--I learned nothing (literally) about awk. that is the reason I am doing now

@Ravan I also have been learning C and Java in academics. I learn awk on my own to answer questions here on this site

@Serg wow thats nice =)

@Ravan and @Serg is very successful

6:13 AM
C++ I will be learning on my own, I bought a used book. also wanna learn python and perl
@A.B. you are flattering me, I am not that successful
But still , thank you , my friend

@A.B. Agree :)
C++
@Serg don't you have in academics ?

@Ravan no, my university's Computer Science department teaches everything in Java. For electrical engineering , which is my major, I need C. Also Visual Basic for some odd reason.
But fun stuff with C starts when you get to microcontrollers class
You have to program 8-bit microcontroller with assembly , and then with C
I will also need to re-learn that, because it was gone by too fast and nothing really stuck to my memory

Here in my college they taught us with 8086 micro controller, very OLD one.
My internet connection behaving weird, ... I am better to leave now. btw my first awk post [unix.stackexchange.com/questions/241156/… @Serg

@Ravan alright, you have a good day,my friend. If you ever need help with awk, feel free to ask

6:30 AM
Woohoo! Finally going to have my house all wired up for 1Gb ethernet! Yay! It has taken me long enough to do it though. :P

cat 5e? ;p
and yes, that is awesome.

Yes!

@Terrance That's pretty cool.

Makes a huge difference in streaming from my Plex server to my smart tv and Roku. =)

lol
yeah

6:35 AM
No more 25MB per second bottle necking! Yay!!

I have gig-e on my part of the network, but interconnections between rooms are over homeplug
I have the good stuff but even then, its 300mbps at best

If you are running a decent N router, the highest Wi-Fi on those is 450mbps. I just recently got an AC1900 router, but I have no AC Wi-Fi devices yet. :(

Heh... I return to see you all were talking about old computers. How funny. I was just explaining the HP 9100 computer calculator to the missus.

@Terrance I do and I'm getting a disappointing 200 Mbps.

@NathanOsman That's not good! :(

6:45 AM
...and that's with the device touching the antennas on the router.

What router do you have?

Hmmmm, one of the guys I used to work with got one of those and he loves it!

Looks pretty solid.

It is, but if you put anything over it, it gets super toasty warm!
I am thinking it is time for me to add back in my Wireless Bridge and see if I hit the full 300mbps on it now.
This is the little bridge I have bestbuy.com/site/…

7:03 AM
I am exhausted here. Have a great night all!

@Terrance sleep well my friend
@NathanOsman solid? not really or?

I was just saying that it didn't look cheap.

=)

7:49 AM
Anyone here? =)

Hi @A.B.
@Seth Congratulations on Ubuntu Membership!!
...
Thank you tab autocomplete for being mean.
also, @NathanOsman, why do you need a UFO for a router?

@Whaaaaaat You expected another result? :=)

@Rinzwind No, but the congratulations are still in order.
It's still a major milestone.

8:09 AM
Good morning !

@Whaaaaaat UFO?
Anyway, I'm heading to bed.
Goodnight all.

@NathanOsman sleep well =)
Hey @Whaaaaaat

Congratulations @Seth.

hello everyone
@Tim I see you...

@Whaaaaaat I left chat open overnight :P
I'm going to college now!

ooo, fancy.

8:31 AM
Shiny. Does it let me use an already-downloaded image, though?

@blade19899 That's cool :)

@Whaaaaaat Probably. Haven't test it out though. Lot of new stuff to test with 16.04. Yaay, already a better release than all the non-lts releases so far xD

Oli
@Whaaaaaat There's a tool for that already
Oh, it's [the last version of] this tool. I see your point.

Will we ever need 128-bit CPUs, and if so, when are they coming?

You guys saw this already:
yesterday, by blade19899

8:39 AM
The Ubuntu Software Center was never something that was ever necessary.
We were perfectly fine with Synaptic and Apt. I mean, who actually used that seriously?

hg8
Should I approve those tags edits ? askubuntu.com/review/suggested-edits/487480
They only add Ubuntu version has tag

Someone star that! the amount of people that have been bitching about USC, they finally have good news!

@hg8 It depends.

@hg8 rejected - version tags should only be added on version- specific questions.

If the question is specific to a version of Ubuntu, approve the tag. But if it's software running on a version, don't.

8:42 AM
@Whaaaaaat \o/

@Ravan o/
@Takkat Darn, ninja'd!

@Whaaaaaat A lot of the stuff in your modern cpu is 128, 256 and even 512 bits. For instance, modern Intel cpus have AVX-512, where you can - for instance - calculate the bitwise OR on 512 bit registers. 64 bits just refers to the general purpose registers, which is why the number of bits has become less important.

hg8
@Takkat Ok that is what I though. Thanks

@Ravan Close that!!!

8:43 AM
Reject?
Ah closed-

Reject and close.

hg8
@Ravan EOF ;)

I seriously hope they are gonna introduce a new theme to Ubuntu 16.04! The current theme, is just not 'great'

I am disappointed with 15.10
I was expecting a lot more werewolf.

hg8
@blade19899 +1

@hg8 I'm still waiting on these themes:

from 2013!
I want the folder icons!
numix-theme, with those icons! would look absolutely awesome!!!

hg8
@blade19899 No announcement for new theme yet ? An new unified theme between Ubuntu phone & desktop would be great.

Ugh. Unity is re-theming but they're not letting me put the thing on the bottom?

9:08 AM
@Whaaaaaat Its a design choice. Granted, I still want it on the bottom. But, it would feel weird, anyways.

but it's more strange for it to be on the side.

1 hour later…
10:32 AM
Congratulations @Seth
