Q: Do all distrbutions have the same drivers for ATI cards?

DerfderThe problem is that my fan is too loud and working nonstop on my desktop. I have tried so far: Ubuntu 13.04, Linux Mint 15 and I had in both the same fan problem (nonstop working fan and very loud). In Windows 7 it's working nice. Is this only a problem of Gnome distros or KDE or Xfce based w...

Q: Why there are so few answers on askubuntu site?

DerfderWhy are so few answers on askubuntu? I don't get it, it's quite big when compared with another SE sites, but still very few answers. Very many unanswered questions in my opinion, when compared with another SE sites? Why is that? Again, there are a lot of users and questions, but it seems tha...

Q: Is it possible to use Python with the Ubuntu SDK?

ZigndDavid Planella wrote in his answer to a question I posted that: ...the recommended way to develop apps for Ubuntu is the Ubuntu SDK. So I installed it, but looks like the supported programming language is C++. Does it mean I will need to know C++ to develop a new application for Ubuntu? Is...

@Mitch hmm?

There was a bounty on this question that ended the day before yesterday, and grace period ended yesterady. But I haven't received the bounty. Is there anything wrong? Or has the rules regarding bounties change?
Thanks.

you need 2 upvotes in the bounty period - you only received one as far as I can see.

The votes has to be during the bounty period? I though it has to have 2 or more vote whenever.

yep - otherwise ... lets say someone has 100 votes on an answer - but someone bounties for a new answer - the new answer will get the bounty with 2 upvotes - but it would be unfair for the old 100 votes answer to get it.

can we close this one? askubuntu.com/q/314593/10698

OK. Sorry to bother you on Sunday :(

@Mitch no worries
@Alvar why - what's wrong?

@fossfreedom opinion based
unclear what he's asking for

maybe - change "You think is it safe enough of spying" to "Does Ubuntu One fall under the american legislation that provides the NSA with access to data" ... or something similar.

Q: What is the difference between RGB and YCbCr?

DerfderIn my Linux Mint ATI Catalyst setup I have set YCbCr as default for Color Pixel Format? What is the difference? I subjectively think that RGB (Full RGB) is better for my eyes. YCbCr seems to be more blurry and my eyes have problem to focus and are tired sooner.

Guys, please review the queue in the Ubuntu Regulator Rooms.
We need more people there. If you find a dupe, post the question there, don't limit your self to flag it.
At least a little more or help from time to time will help to maintain the site clean :)

It has way better answers than the master.

then i can link it the other way?

I guess you could.
Except that's the older question.

well, age don't matter too much

Well when you're doing dupe close and merges it sorta does.

generally yeah but i am quite a non-confirmist

Thanks.
Man, those answers need some cleaning.

I need some help, from a technical genious, toward the product pebble watch!

@jokerdino BTW, when I try to change the workspace switcher key in UTT nothing happens..
@RonnieMarlow Not sure anyone can help you with that..
I've never even heard of it before.
2

@Seth it works for me.
it's a substitute for the button in launcher

Hmm.

are you on 13.10?

No.
But I do have a VM to test it if you want.

5:11 PM
can you tail -f .config/unity-tweak-tool/debug.log?

it doesn't work as in, you can't change the key or it doesn't function?

I can change the key, but it doesn't function.

what version of UTT?

0.0.5
I just checked for updates.

5:16 PM
no number after ~ ?
0.0.5~155?

No.

apt-cache policy unity-tweak-tool

unity-tweak-tool:
  Installed: 0.0.5-0~138~quantal1
  Candidate: 0.0.5-0~138~quantal1
  Version table:
 *** 0.0.5-0~138~quantal1 0

     0.0.4 0
        500 ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu raring/universe amd64 Packages
Maybe that's it.

latest version is ~155

This machine is a Quantal upgrade to Raring.

5:18 PM
the PPA is disabled.

OK.
Thanks let me try again.
Err, fix that.

but it still should work on that version

Well I haven't logged out and logged back in.. do I need to do that?

nope
you might need to make sure if the gsettings key is getting any updates from UTT

Didn't think so.
I'm getting the latest version right now.
Upgraded. Still nothing happens.

5:23 PM
let me see.

morning folks!

Hey @JorgeCastro
Does data.stackexchange.com work for any of you?

it's on maintenance mode since morning

For longer than that.
When I went to bed they were doing maintenance.

$ gsettings get org.compiz.expo:/org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/expo/ expo-key
'<Super>s'
@Seth maybe you are using a different Unity config profile
@JorgeCastro hello!

5:28 PM
@jokerdino It changes it in Dconf.
Maybe it's a dconf problem?

it could be a bug in unity but i won't admit it
@Seth can you change the key in UTT and see if gsettings sees any change in the key?
i just gave you the command to get the value

It does.
I set it to Primary-Z and gsettings changed.
@RonnieMarlow Now I have ;-)

can you tell me if you are using the default profile for unity?

Don't know..
It could be because I upgraded from Quantal to Raring..

use ccsm

5:30 PM
ccsm!?!
Okay....

i dont know how else to know the profile

Okay, got ccsm.

go to preference on the side bar

A: PSA: gksu is no longer installed by default

Warren HillFrom the discussions I have had since asking the question you refer to and before providing the answer I gave it seems that for raring at least there is no problem with installing and using gksu. However in the longer term some of the developers want to phase it out. They believe policy-kit offe...

anyone know if gksudo is installed by default?

5:34 PM
@Seth pretty -.-
@JorgeCastro IIRC, it is available in live media. i dont know if it is installed by default though.
i presume it is like gparted

@JorgeCastro It is.
Now.

A: Why is gksu no longer installed by default in 13.04?

GillesI just installed 13.04 : GKSU is already installed...

@Seth so it was only out of the images momentarily?
@Seth hold on. can you make other changes in the window manager section and see if they work?

@jokerdino Of ccsm or UTT?

UTT yeah

@jokerdino I guess..
KK

Hello @gertvdijk :)
Flagged.

Hi there, @Seth :)

@jokerdino Yeah, other settings work.

@Seth other keyboard shortcuts too?
why dont you edit the settings in CCSM and see if that helps?
that particular setting is in expo

Other keyboard shortcuts don't work either in UTT it seems.
I need to go.

5:46 PM
@Seth cya

@jokerdino Hmm. Sorta working now..
Get back to you later on it

O_o
@Seth thank you

No, thank you :)

lol is it working fine now?

No not really :-/
The workspace switcher works..
but changing window spread doesn't.

5:51 PM
on a terminal, tail -f the debug,log
and simultaneously change the settings in UTT.
if you notice things flowing, then it's alright
err, scratch that.
keyboard shortcuts stuff aren't getting dumped into debug.log
if you can reproduce this issue again and consistently, file a bug report.

@Seth @JorgeCastro its not here

and we'll forever clump it together with other ignored reports :D

gksu will be installed when upgrading from alpha or a previous release. But it is also not installed in 13.10

@jokerdino will do :)
@Takkat Errg.

6:25 PM
so gksu is not installed by default

Can someone add a bounty here?

too soon

This is a bug that is affecting to all the users of Ubuntu.

bug link?

Also, it will be very valuable that someone report the bug
@jokerdino right :)
@gg-79 are you there?
we need that some user create the report of that bug, @gg-79 you are the one :D
@jokerdino sorry, I though that a mod can do that
@jokerdino You could upvote it :)
thank you

@Lucio Hi

9:14 PM
Hi guys
I'm going to ask a question on the site, but first, I'm checking in here (I know it's against convention).
I have a second hard drive in this current laptop, but it is not mounted on startup.
Now, I know I could use fstab, but I want to know, seeing as it is mounted as /media/myusername/Storaige (Yes, Storaige is its name), I'm wondering if it will still work with fstab smoothly. Why I ask is because I've created symlinks to folders on the drive, and I don't want to have to recreate them if I add it to fstab.

@RolandiXor I am cleaning my PC right now but when it dries up I can test that. I think I did that with one of my drives and it worked.

cool ^_^

9:32 PM
gonna play some AOE

@RolandiXor Go at it hehe. nice to see you again, long time no see, well nobody ^^

@LuisAlvarado lol
I was busy with work and stuff
But still checking in on Au daily
