Q: Can we make a reminder to mark answers as accepted?

Frank SlezakI have seen a problem on AskUbuntu. Many times, people forget to mark an answer as accepted, even if its the only one and it does work. Is there a way to add a seven-day reminder like "Mark an answer in [this question] as accepted!" Maybe an inbox notification: Hey! You forgot to mark an answer!...

1:24 AM
i guess no one reads links askubuntu.com/questions/395739/ubuntu-touch-on-nexus-7-2013 the dupe is asking about desktop

jrg
1:36 AM
@Seth Even iTerm on Mac reports that.

@Mateo check my updated answer ;)

@jrg No kidding lol.

cool, that should help a bit. thanks @Braiam

jrg
@Seth what I find really funny is how it doesn't behave like an XTERM for my SSH sessions.

@jrg I feel like watching the browser string new horror movie...

Hey is anyone good with pulseaudio in here?

@Takkat is not here @Andrew

I have 2 wireless speakers both are mono, and are same model.... I was woundering can I use both, and make it into a stereo sound system, if possible.
That I got for X-mas
@jrg do you use Mac OSX?
@Seth are you here
@Braiam Is he the only one good with pluseaudio?

2:05 AM
@jrg I got mine :P
@Andrew he's the only I know that understand some of PA logic...

ok

jrg
@Andrew I use Mac, Windows and Ubuntu for different things.
Each has a different use. The only thing in common is that they are all things I dislike, for different reasons.

So what one do you like better?

jrg
What am I using it for?
For my primary thing, which is creating web applications in Ruby, Ubuntu is much better than anything else.
For my primary hobby, which is playing games, Windows wins.
For my secondary job, I don't have a choice. OS X is required. :\
There is no "good operating system" out there.
only ones that suck less for what you're doing at that moment in time.

2:27 AM
@Andrew Yes and no.
What up?

@karel
It isn't a question about whether it exists, it's a question of a) whether it works and b) has anyone used it.

@FrankSlezak The problem is the AU gets maybe three questions every day (I don't know exactly how many) of the type "I have device xyz. How do I install Ubuntu Touch on my device?" Multiply this by several months and you have a tsunami of duplicates. There was a long thread at AU meta about what to do about questions like this. I'll give you the link if you want to read it.

I do understand that. However, this isn't about install
It's about "does it work or not?"

Q: Beta/Alpha/Development versions are said not being covered - so Ubuntu Touch questions are not welcome?

NilsBI just read the comment "Ubuntu Phones is in development, so it is off-topic here at Ask Ubuntu. We do not support Beta/Alpha/Development versions." Are questions welcome regarding Ubuntu Touch only after it has been introduced officially? I have seen a few questions referrring to this topic: ...

but they ARE welcome.
and there is little/no info about moto x, so he asks the community. i don't see that as a dupe of the official device list

@FrankSlezak I have also bookmarked Danielle's question... btw questions about a development release of Ubuntu are normally off topic at AU too. There is a lot of exciting development being done for Ubuntu 14.04 (TRIM support by default, web browser support for CUDA GPUs, etc.) and all that stuff is normally off topic until the release date too.

Q: How to connect Ubuntu 13.10 to TV via HDMI?

AlexI have a Lenovo Laptop with Ubuntu 13.10 running and would like to connect it to the TV via HDMI. @Andrew you may be able to do this by creating a combined sink from remapped mono sinks where each sink is the L or R channel of your corresponding speakers. These are the PA modules you need to do this: module-remap-sink and module-combine-sink.

next piece of gear to buy, a thunderbolt hardware dev kit. direct memory access from a keyfob seems like a great idea to me for pwning the mac things.

@hbdgaf Thunderbolt gives devices Direct Memory Access?

yep. it's essentially a pcie bridge to something that looks like a usb port...so you pretend to be the right device (that uses unrestricted DMA and has a driver OOTB) then dump or write mac memory at will
on a less nefarious note, one of those ports could be really useful for someone wanting to do gpu processing on a brick that attaches to a laptop
o/ @fossfreedom

4:25 PM
@Aditya what was the purpose of your Meta? If you wanted to infer something - ping a mod and we can talk in private. No need to pose such a questionable personal Q
merry xmas @hbdgaf - hope you are having fun!

working... so not so much. still, we'll see. last time i tried to connect work and fun it took the fun out of it not the work out of it. probably better this way anyway.

aww - working :( sorry to hear that. Myself - not back to work until 6th Jan '14 \o/

@fossfreedom Nice!

@fossfreedom Good show. I'm working retail, so time off this time of year is like pulling honeybadger teeth with eelskin

Got my aunts old iBook G4 for christmas, using OS X right now whilst I await the download of Lubuntu 12.04. Uggh, screw Apple and their drat-blasted $50 upgrade. I want some software, but it requires at least 10.5. Thank God for Ubuntu!
@hbdgaf :) That must really stink. You got Christmas off, right?

4:31 PM
@hbdgaf - presume you get a good discount ... should get some nice stuff before the hoards descend
@RPiAwesomeness I thought apple was giving away their O/S now? Must have misread that.

i worked 2200 last night to 0700 this morning. walking dead at the moment, but i have to stay up so i sleep to a time that is conducive to me showing up at work on time tomorrow at 0700. and the discount doesn't apply to anything already on clearance...

@fossfreedom Lol, Mavericks is free, but 10.5 sure ain't. $100+ new on Amazon: amazon.com/Mac-OS-Leopard-10-5-10-51/dp/B0012RAVRC/…
Leopard that is

"walking dead" ... "left 4 dead 2" ... there is a theme here :P

last OS X version to support PPC, which an iBook G4 is

@RPiAwesomeness that sucks :(

4:34 PM
yes. i was saying i'm a zombie for a bit

@fossfreedom No kidding. Lubuntu to the rescue PLEASE!

@fossfreedom the releasing l4d2 on steam for free could have been an awesome linux launch goodie. think about people that dual boot and use it both places. hear it gets way better frame-rates on the linux side of the house.

does left 4 dead work with intel graphics? - I thought valve games only worked with nvidia.

we will soon see. the new but less beefy laptop runs intel, but i have an older hp dv7 that has a relatively beefy nvidia integrated card for a lappie.
i believe you're thinking steamOS though...not steam the app
we'll run on anything, but this is the junk we support - type of thing

^-- yeah that - let me have a closer look ... might download now.

4:39 PM
@fossfreedom Yeah, currently SteamOS only supports Nvidia, that's what the steam boxes have (prototypes are SICK)

@fossfreedom be quick. that offer expires soon. you just have to add it to your library by the deadline though...

requirements say Nvidia or ATI :(

makes me sad... i'm still trying it on the newer lappie. if it doesn't work, i'll install it on the old one just to see.
it's all opengl...so it's probably that intel video is usually pathetic as far as SPUs go.

@fossfreedom ^ just add it to your library ;)

@AmithKK if i make any ground on the thunderbolt thing, i'll ping you

incredible, @AmithKK failed to type "Good Night"...

@Braiam did you ever get whatever that thing was sorted out?

@hbdgaf err... I haven't sorted out anything since the 23... was "thing" before or after? (if you mean the troubleshooter, nah)

OMG! Why does OS X/Microsoft Office for Mac have to be such a turd-brain?!? I've clicked on the update button three times now and it keeps coming back to the same. screen.
I give up... Please just finish downloading Lubuntu already :(

@RPiAwesomeness lol, Office in general is terrible

@jrg :) Gimme LibreOffice any day! Amen!

5:07 PM
AbiWord's not bad.

@Fitzroy Hmm. I haven't used that, probably should...

can someone explain this? bash: cd: ./lighttpd/: Permission denied I don't get it..

and probably will, IF Lubuntu decides to finish downloading (I've had the download fail three times!)

@Alvar you don't have execution access to the directory

5:09 PM
@Braiam im using cd!

@RPiAwesomeness bittorrent FTW?

and sudo cd doesn't work...
dont get this..

@Alvar let me do this more simple, what is the output of ls -l?

@Braiam Tried that, but like NOBODY is torrenting the PowerPC Lubuntu 12.04 iso, so it is slow as a pig in treacle.
If it fails again, I'm gonna do that :D

@RPiAwesomeness torrent + webseed?
best of both without both ;)

5:11 PM
@Braiam How would add a web-seed?

dont use torrent then, the download should work..
@Braiam I did sudo -i and now it worked...

@Alvar Yeah, tried that. It's failed three times already...

@RPiAwesomeness strange...

hmm... Stack Applet just said that I had -10 rep on Ask Ubuntu, but I looked and don't see anything... Maybe someone reversed a vote or something...

@RPiAwesomeness why stay with 12.04? why not 13.10?

5:13 PM
@Alvar It's a 2005 iBook G4 w. a Power PC CPU and 512MB of RAM. I'm just being safe :)
Might consider upgrading if 12.04 runs fine.

@RPiAwesomeness being safe is sticking with mac os...
I had a power mac g3 as a server for 3 months...
until the hdd crashed..

@Alvar just gimme ls -l

@Alvar I really don't like OS X all that much, so I want Ubuntu, but I don't want it crashing all over the place.

Anyone know how to add a web-seed to Transmission Torrent Client? I am trying to download the Power PC Lubuntu 12.04 iso and it is like CRAP for speed...

PowerPC? D:

"It's counter productive download and uncompress and install all at the same time" this is actually very productive, especially when installing large packages with many dependencies or doing a system update. @RPiAwesomeness No, it wouldn't work with 512MB.. much less whatever it has for graphics ;)
