Q: Is a bad NFS mount preventing a clean boot?

s g I'm on Ubuntu server (I think it's 12.04, but not positive) and I basically ran into this problem as this: http://serverfault.com/questions/56588/unmount-a-nfs-mount-where-the-nfs-server-has-disappeared The umount command didn't work, so I tried to just use the ol' reboot. Now the machine gets a...

Q: Problem with file permissions in shared directory under /srv between OSX and Ubuntu

jdvI'm setting up some folders where any user in the 'users' group can collaborate on files, on a Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server. It seems that 'users' on my machine have no problems editing each other's files (I have configured ACL group permission). However, we have 'users' connecting through the Mac OS...

Do you want to see an Anonymous attack now?
Spanish ;)

like the song

haha
do you know spanish?

a little

now I understand

i can't speak it, but i can pick up cardinal words and a little more from some spanish and loads of french in highschool/college

12:56 AM
that is great!

yersh. i'm not your typical dumb american ;P

haha got it

they were kind enough to leave the mp3 link unadulterated in the page source too. how neighbourly of them.

@hbdgaf btw, I'd originally thought that you were German

orly?

12:59 AM
@hbdgaf what does that mean?

oh, really?
why german, the schadenfreude github acct?

I don't know your git account
But HBDGAF helped :P

heh... kk

@hbdgaf could you do me the favor to run tor now?
My keyboard is not recognized

wait what? my tor site should be up...

1:05 AM
tor + keyboard = what the heck?

so want to confirm if it is a bug

yes. tor is up, but i still have no idea what it has to do with the keyboard...

lol

I mean in the firefox window
@Braiam done
I am unable to enter anything on Firefox

1:07 AM
@Lucio I don't use firefox... I use a proxy toggler for chromium

thanks anyway

if it were even installed, i would have tried it. are you using stock firefox or the portable tor browser? i do have the portable tor browser laying about

@Lucio I'm using FF... what's the problem?

I'll let this clear:
With the new bundle of Tor, I cannot enter anything with my keyboard on Firefox (that is included by default)

Oh. No, it works fine for me on Saucy and Trusty. -- wait question, you mean if you run portable, then open a stock instance and a portable instance at the same time the portable breaks your local one?

1:10 AM
/me remembers seeing an old bug about it...
you sure you have the latest?

@hbdgaf the local one (no-tor) work fines

okay, then no. portable works fine here.

@Braiam yep
@hbdgaf weird, I have Saucy too
Should I report this to Ubuntu?

@Lucio purge, redownload and try again. then report it to tor project

reporting to tor..

1:13 AM
I'ld pop it on the tor bug tracker and see if it gets any heat. If it's not from repo, it's usually better to report to whoever you got the project from. Yes, what @Braiam said

@hbdgaf got it
@hbdgaf thanks for the try :)
^ there should get attention

yes, and you're talking to people that probably use it more. i only really have it for a couple of things.

omg... I hate having to ssh+http tunnel to some server..

why don't you have a bash function do it for you and put it in your .bashrc or something so you can just #~:tunnelon

because I have 3 systems :(
and the server isn't mine :(
is just that a forum I moderate get a stupid ban for my country ip and then I can't post...

1:22 AM
that's no good.

and then the admin went mia...

speaking of forums, i haven't looked at kernelmode recently... i bet there's something interesting over there. must.remain.focused.-ish

Q: Keyboard is not responsive inside of Tor's firefox

Madara UchihaWhen running Tor via the Tor Browser Bundle, Vidalia works fine, Tor runs and connected, Firefox runs and connects to https://check.torproject.org which tells me that I have Tor enabled with an IP address from Germany or something, but there's just one thing. TommyForgive me if this is an extremely noob question, I am new to Linux. I have installed FlightGear, a flight simulator. Q: how about split the installation tag?

BraiamI was thinking after my previous post and probing the general of the SE sites, we should split into: install-software: for general software installation instructions. If you are/want build from sources, or the problem is apt/dpkg then you should use the according tags. ubiquity: For installatio...

1:42 AM
ah, mac got the new chrome desktops apps too?

@Braiam Isn't that the second time Meta has followed you?

@Mateo what?

Was hoping they would roll them out for linux as well: zdnet.com/…

@Braiam --^ ??

> what about software on Ubuntu?

1:50 AM
> They doesn't want it. The use software-installation and system-installation but in our case the later doesn't make sense, since the only thing to install is Ubuntu D:

> Installing software on a running system
UL excerpt has "Installing software on a running system, either as binaries or from source"

Exactly.

but we have

The "only thing to install is Ubuntu" is wrong.
@Braiam What about apps that don't require compiling?

Installing software on a running system as binaries?

1:52 AM
@Braiam Burn it!

lets then install-from-source -> software-installation?

Yes.

ok, wait...
I need 3 points...
lets see if I need to retag any compiling

@Braiam Wait.. You have plenty of rep in

@Seth is backwards :(
install-from-source -> software-installation
you need to create software-installation :(

1:57 AM
Why do I need to create software installation? I don't think we need that.

then how we separate installing software from installing Ubuntu?

We don't.

....

There isn't much point IMO. A whole tag just for installing Ubuntu?

@Seth you know how many folks have problem installing ubuntu???

1:58 AM
@Braiam Yes and they can use .
There's no need to split things down even further.

I would be able to solve questions about installing stuff on Ubuntu... but installing Ubuntu itself is out of my leage

I don't understand

lets say I want to install X on Ubuntu. That kind of questions is just:
1. Fire up Ubuntu
2. Fiddle around about how to install the program
3. Profit!
Now lets say I have a problem installing Ubuntu. That kind of questions needs:
1. Figure out what of the 300 hundreds + 1 reasons could be wrong with the installation.
2. Find if there's a way to solve it.
3. Answer it or give up
it involves different process

So? No need for a new tag about the same thing..

@Braiam wow, he just wasted 500 rep. I'm like meh, it is next to the meta and chat links no problem finding it

2:02 AM
That's where other tags come in.

wait, let me check again. What tag are we creating?
@Mateo UX guys don't agree... and they know their stuff

We aren't creating any tag.. Just synonymizing.

problem installing ubuntu askubuntu.com/q/389997/169736
problem installing software askubuntu.com/q/379547/169736

So can you vote on this synonym? askubuntu.com/tags/installation/synonyms

I agree a log me out of everything should be in the profile. but what what they are suggesting is regressing back to the clutter we had before.

2:08 AM
@Seth I still no agree, it will make my life more... difficult...

So we need , and and all for one thing?
That's the not purpose of the tagging system.

no, we need for install-from-source and compiling. And ubiquity for installing Ubuntu itself. Installation is too broad...
we are merging 2 tags into one... and removing one
ergo less tags
I'm hands down to remove tags...
btw, most of my points on installation comes from software installation ;)

@Mateo - so you verified that flipbuq works with python3?
because it segfaults with python2 just like my thing did...

@hbdgaf I had to hit record then stop then record, but it gets the video into the window, works running python flipbug.py and python3 flipbug.py
woah, just tried yours again with python and it worked!
@hbdgaf do you think it is something specific to your install?

i just tried with python3. it works. no commit yet, i'm adding a couple of features

nice!

if you're already gst == playing, the opacity slider should set playing so you don't gray out. the height and width entry boxes should be auto-populated with the current sizes, not words. and what do you think a good percentage of the screen real-estate is for the initial size?

hm, lets see

2:58 AM
25% of height and square?

a fourth sounds about right
@hbdgaf either square or the 4:3 tv format

kk. height looks better to me at about a third instead of 25%. that makes the math round for 4:3
see what you think: pastebin.com/36tKV8yt
i can work around xlib and screenscrape xrandr for 12.04 compat with python3 and no weirdo packages, but it should probably just be a will expire fork instead of in the code.

It worked python 2 for 12.04, so I'm not as woried
looks pretty good:

3:16 AM
oh... well i still already found a better fix and removed the dependency anyway...
    self.resolution = {
        'width' : Gdk.get_default_root_window().get_width(),
        'height' : Gdk.get_default_root_window().get_height()
        }

I'm getting trace backs on the keypresses , anything to worry about (the keys work and everything) In keypress
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "hb1.py", line 68, in on_keypress
else: self.on_keypress_dict[event.keyval](self.state_args[event.keyval])
KeyError: 65507L

nope. i should wrap it in a try catch to squelch it. it's just a keyerror for a keypress not in the dictionary

@hbdgaf oh cool, that makes it easy

I could turn this in to the pebkac troubleshooter in like 20 minutes... might do that just for funsies
Anyway, any other input before I send the pull request your way?

any simple way to lock the aspect ratio? we can do that later (something I think eventually should have). It looks ready!

3:26 AM
I could chop out the numerics and just make it a percentage slider instead.
And yes, stupid simple

Awesome! Sounds more streamlined.

Yes... simpler too since a slider launches the callback to resize the window as you slide. Easier to use than guessing at numbers

my mind was thinking of the locking links, but I can't think of any reason to have it not locked

aspect ratio of the webcam. regular cam versus letterboxed. you don't want those black bits. they're ugaly
that's a task for another day though. dynamically find aspect ratio of the cam by inspecting a frame and checking size, then making the window match
is it just me or am i writing feature requests for myself...

true,

3:32 AM
so are you wanting to keep the name of the base project? i'm just creating a pledgie campaign, so if you feel like bumping the readme - it has a link. would be stupid for the words not to match

camdesk-port blah blah blah, isn't so good, we should add a shout out to the inspiration, but I think we can make a new name

Take your pick. I suck at that kind of thing. I just glued all the pieces together and got all critical of what needed to change ;)
I think it would be funny to work in "selfie" somehow, but probably sounds more professional to pitch it as a way to watermark your videos/presentations with your mug.
o/ Seth/AmithKK. btw - it works!!! ;)

@hbdgaf \o
What works?

you know how people that do presentations on mac have their face embedded in the presentation?
pygi has that now too.

yeah
Cool!

3:39 AM
Py-selfie, GstGo! pyguy, FaceDesk
facepalm (maybe for the mobile app?)

facedesk is hilarious...but i don't think people would get it

We are keeping an eye on it ;)
That's why it's still open :)

@hbdgaf feel free to do what you want with the readme, as it has moved from lets port and fix this, to this is a real thing, either that or i'll update it tomorrow

Okay, either way is fine. I'll probably drop a We were going to... but it was easier to just tear it down and start over.

UtkarshSo, I am a on-line geek, (sometimes) and i have to take screen-shots and upload it on Internet but i am afraid that someone will use my screenshots. please tell me how to make watermark or any type of mark on a screenshot so that no one uses our screeenshot

12:29 PM
@Oli I'm not merging all tags. I'm making them useful for answerers. I have 101 points in something I don't find useful at all and keep poping up in my front page. I find that as it currently is is not useful. I tried several times to make the community spring in motion about the current state of things but I got little (possitive) or no input. Unless someone makes me a counterproposal that fix the underlying cause of the problem (tagging sucks)
I'm going to make as many changes I feel necessary to make tagging suck less
@Oli WE NEED TO FIX IT (TM)

@Braiam you are right
and please tell what to do now? askubuntu.com/questions/390206/…
@Braiam are you able to play this game? zapak.com/rickshaw-racing-games-play-1192-2

@Utkarsh nope. as I said in comments, you need a Shockwave plugin, but those plugins are not available in Ubuntu.

:-( oooooooh god! why ubuntu is LACKING of softwares and why WINDOWS is much more better?

you can play shockwave now via the pipelight project

@fossfreedom how to download pipelight?

@Utkarsh is not linux fault, but adobes...

@Utkarsh nothing to do with ubuntu - it is adobe proprietary nonsense

hiya
refilled lp. why does it ALWAYS run out on the COLDEST night...

I retaged this question with a newly created pipelight tag. The edit was accepted, but the pipelight tag was immediately removed and replaced with moonlight.
Why?
The question has nothing to do with moonlight.

4:19 PM
click the edited button and ask the person that did it.
@Braiam ^^

How can i ask? Are there Private messages here?

@ tag is ping. there is no privacy on SE

ok, thx
@Braiam Why was that question retaged as moonlight instead of pipelight?

@falconer is the only question with that term, and the tag I added was silverlight not moonlight

and now we know.

4:24 PM
for some reason silverlight is merged with moonlight...

Oh
that should be corrected
And I just searched, there are 26 results for pipelight, those should be retaged I think.

@hbdgaf cool. I don't think I put that one on the github. You are going all bug exterminator on it.

that's how i roll

I'm going to go make an icon, any thoughts?
I'm thinking more fun and professional, not like a HAL3000 red camera

i like the monochrome thing, but it's intentionally absent from task switchers. so... i would thing some movie camera icon svg that already exists.
maybe a background. something like i did with lenstoggle except a camera instead of a lock. camera with shading differential on gunmetal and trimmed to icon shape
that's not my area though. it's just what i like.

4:38 PM
hm, so - sleek and simple

jrg
I'm not sure I like the new inbox.
Things have slipped through the cracks multiple times.

@falconer are you following and answering questions with that tag? Else tagging a question about silverlight with pipeline does not make sense.

No
Just searched for pipelight in the search
and tried to retag the questions which are either about pipelight
or the answer for them deals with pipelight
And I think what makes no sense is that the silverlight tag is automatically translated to moonlight.
moonlight is dead
anyway

@jrg with you on that. it's still early though
@Mateo that's the idea. simple is beautiful

jrg
ok, for 3 hours of sleep, i'm not doing too bad yet.
tomorrow/tonight is going to be fun though.

@falconer yes, but I was asking about askubuntu.com/questions/220947/…, where it is not useful

@jrg i'm taking a nap, but it's a long weekend and i already closed +5 bugs/features on a project. i did my job. if the world doesn't thank me for it with more than lip services, then fine. did my part.
