12:03 AM
yeah. now i'll tell you how i really feel.

12:18 AM
votes are back! yipeeeee

Back.
@iSeth: Did you finally get that JavaScript working?
I can help you with that now.

@GeorgeEdison no, I didn't
but I have to go now :(
4 hours ago, by iSeth
@Takkat http://paste.ubuntu.com/1486102/

I'll write something for you.

you can look at the code if you want

...and ping you with the end result.
Then you can read it later when you get back.

12:22 AM
@GeorgeEdison ok that's nice of you.

No problem.

Its a good way for me to really learn/use my javascript.

@iSeth: Here you go.
You'll find that jQuery is much easier to work with.
There's really only five lines of code in the whole script now - and one of them just has brackets :P

it's going to need the .click() for the sendmessage event
jquery is nice though
2

@AbrahamVanHelpsing What sendmessage event?

12:32 AM
clicking the send button...

I was just rewriting what he sent me.
I don't know anything about the script using the send button.

okiedoke. it might not be necessary. i was thinking he wanted ('#sayit-button').click() or whatever it is

1:02 AM
<3 frameworks like jquery
when they behave as expected anyway

jQuery is pretty stable / reliable.
But I hear you - some other frameworks, not so much...

1:47 AM
Has anyone been seeing kernel panics recently, when unplugging a USB device?
"Recently" meaning within the past few kernel updates.

I'm a very bad example - I don't update my kernel often :P
Thank you Launchpad for your cryptic error messages:
> "Launchpad encountered an error during the following operation: copying a package. qtbase-opensource-src 5.0.0~rc2-0ubuntu1~test2 in quantal (same version already building in the destination archive for Precise)"

@GeorgeEdison That's my problem. I left my computer on long enough that I effectively skipped about 3 versions.
@GeorgeEdison Were you trying to upload to a PPA?

@Mechanicalsnail I was trying to copy binary packages to another PPA.
@Mechanicalsnail You should consider using ksplice.
Gotta run. Night all.

2:57 AM
Night~
@HackToHell! Your profile picture...! melts

;) kittens forever !

So cute ;3;

@Mochan leaving?
when did you arrive?

@iSeth No
@iSeth 10 minutes ago

@GeorgeEdison Thanks! It doesn't work at the moment though... checking into it.
@Mochan oh OK. Sayin night to George?

3:07 AM
@iSeth Yep

OK ;)
2 first posts!

Woo?
I forgot that when I unplug my powercord, my computer dies. Sigh.

lol
Hiya @RolandiXor

Hi...

gulp

3:18 AM
Did you fix your script?
I copied it and I'd like to have a working version if possible :)

@RolandiXor no. :(
I am working on it.
@GeorgeEdison made a jQuery version but that doesn't work either so far :/
@RolandiXor you really want it?

@iSeth I found @GeorgeEdison's version
I'll try it
Doesn't work :(

Yeah I know. I can't figure out why... looks good :/

Yeah I can't figure it out either.
Then again, I haven't used javascript in... a long time.
I really need my lies button.

I remember I attempted to use JavaScript. I gave up soon after.

brb
back
@Mochan I did the same :/

@iSeth +1

:( my inspirational message was lost...

@AbrahamVanHelpsing Sure was.

in the shrug test, 5 mins ago, by AbrahamVanHelpsing
it has to do with the callback being bound to a dynamically generated dom element i think, but i'm way too busy to play with a shrug button
@AbrahamVanHelpsing now that I know how to start user scripts I might use it more.

3:31 AM
it's possible. i'ld kind of like to inject CSS in to a lot of different sites to restyle only the parts i want into tickers and hold them in a set of iframes i can see as bars of statuses. just saying. one page that holds twitter, fb, gmail, g+ circles, all conveniently in chromium from a userscript? sure

Wow, that would be a lot O_O
of.JS.

jrg
Oh, @AbrahamVanHelpsing: I found the weirdest rails 4 bug yet. github.com/rails/rails/issues/8684

whew. I need to get a github account.

jrg
for what reason?

that is odd. and yeah, who doesn't have a github? i have like three

3:35 AM
@jrg so I don't have to store my ftp password on the skydrive... so I have organized code storage... there are a number of reasons....

jrg
you should have a reason to have a github. just thinking "i need a github" isn't a good reason. :P

@jrg I know. Ubuntu paste isn't the best place for code though :P

Q: Keyboard gets sluggish after a while (after upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04)

Geir IseneKeyboard gets sluggish a while after login. jrg
a good point.

@iSeth then stop drinking... l)

@AbrahamVanHelpsing not on me

3:38 AM
@AbrahamVanHelpsing lol

on the three github accts thing, one is a bunch of subprojects of a larger project. one is a code dumping ground -- jrg that's the one you have. and the third is sort of a joke.

I need a code dumping ground.

Why are so few people reviewing close votes?
I've got some things in the queue that need closing now for a mighty long time with like 2 and 3 votes...

@AbrahamVanHelpsing Come on! Bite harder!

@RolandiXor I would if I could.

3:44 AM
@AbrahamVanHelpsing Why do you need a second account for the first? You can just create an organization.

@jrg do you still have that link handy with the html5 game-dev talk with the lady from google? someone on fb is reading an oreilly book and i want to point out how not sufficient that is
@Mechanicalsnail i'm a little ocd about things. sometimes. the subproject account isn't separate from the larger project. it's just a staging ground

@AbrahamVanHelpsing You set up separate SSH keys/identities for all of them?

@Mechanicalsnail for 3 yes

@AbrahamVanHelpsing What about for git author information? Do you just configure it manually for each repository?

oh they're all pretty bare. i don't populate anything i don't have to. i'm not sure what you're asking about though. i have 3 email addresses with 3 empty profiles and several projects in each. it's to organize the projects between code-dumping, big thing i need to put more time into but doesn't pay anything, and other.

3:59 AM
Hi.

does anyone know how to tell what version of Cinnamon I'm using?
@RolandiXor Hi

@iSeth check the version in synaptic.

@iSeth i think it's in the output of sudo apt-get -y remove cinnamon <-- joke don't do that

=)
Cinnamon is... bleh.

maybe just doesn't know you can put user:12345 something in the search box and it works?

its a big change but it shouldn't be a separate answer.

@LuisAlvarado cool

@LuisAlvarado Cya!

@iSeth Cinnamon. That's why.

@LuisAlvarado always great talking to you!

Oh the BlueDevil thing?

4:50 AM
yep.

Do you have KDE installed?

@RolandiXor used to. Purged most of it.

BlueDevil is part of KDE, it's the KDE bluetooth framework/module/whatevertheycallit

ah, OK.

They have this thing for stupid names that come across as a bit "demonic"
like dragon player
and... bluedevil

4:52 AM
I noticed that.

Comes with the territory...

at least Gnome has names that make sense

(a bit childish if you ask me)
(Let's piss off a particular group of people who might find this a bit unwelcoming!)

you mean as a christian?
or just weird in general?

(It's the best way to become popular as a DE while trolling a bunch of people we don't like for no reason whatsoever)
@iSeth whistles

4:55 AM
@RolandiXor well I won't go into that.

@RolandiXor U+035C COMBINING DOUBLE BREVE BELOW

Q: Unsynonym ntp from time

Martin SchröderI have a subscription for ntp. It seems that recently ntp became a synonym for time, so that I now get questions like this via my subscription. Please remove this synonym: ntp should be for questions specific to ntp, not for all questions regarding the 4th dimension.

10:24 AM
@jokerdino wuzup (:

sup.

In Section 3.1 an additional step is needed after Step 4

you would need a LP account to edit it.

The computer needs to be rebooted (for the new linux image to be loaded?)
@jokerdino are you not ?

yeah, you need to reboot to use the new kernel

10:36 AM
They missed that, add it

i think it is a obvious step to reboot

Oh w8, they do mention it !
PUT IT IN BOLD !
@jokerdino windows does not need a reboot :P :P

Oh right.
no need to bold it.

@jokerdino I installed it like thrice cause fglrxinfo showed wrong ifo :P

it just means you didn't read it right.

10:37 AM
@jokerdino At least put it as a step
It is a step in sec 2.1

let me see if i can edit it
hold on, i think we have a similar set of documentation on this website.
just edit that one.

done!

2 hours later…
12:15 PM
I see that in 6 hours time (at 5-6PM GMT) there will be a new official Ubuntu product. I believe @MarcoCeppi also knows about this. XD

new product? link for starring plz...
o/ @Mahesh long time no see

Sure :)
@AbrahamVanHelpsing omgubuntu.co.uk/2012/12/…

i think he's so wrong on gaming console. the 100 usd android box that runs games in cloud and is essentially an rdp client could be ubuntu based instead. that implementation should be easy. i also think an official nexus phone is probably what it is.

@AbrahamVanHelpsing Was on vacations. :)
happy new year..

@AbrahamVanHelpsing I think so also. The gaming console is a wild card, and I doubt it could be done in such a short time (didn't the Steam/Linux production only start 6-12 months ago?). I also believe it's a phone. But, if not, a computer. IDK why.
@Mahesh Hehe it's 3/1/13 where I am. 3 days late, sir!

12:24 PM
@Mahesh same

Howz everyone...

be back in a minute..

Pretty good?
@Mahesh Ja mata ne
I gotta run. Oyasumi nasai yo, minna-sama :)
(ping me back if you translate that)

@Mochan i don't mean steam/software on end stations. cloud gaming for everything that isn't split-second multiplayer (think FPS) like onlive. if it's done for android (and has been) there shouldn't be a dev curve for linux as much

12:26 PM
@AbrahamVanHelpsing Oh LOL! Sorry XD
Mata ne

@AbrahamVanHelpsing: a chromebook style device might not be inconcivable.

@JourneymanGeek that's fair. i think an open hardware laptop would be pretty epic.

@AbrahamVanHelpsing: XD while it would be awesome, the novena (I LOVE that name) isn't quite ready for mass production

by laptop i mean more tablet in the laptop form factor. like a raspi something with a minimal DE. just something to say "it works and if you want it better, buy one of these"

12:29 PM
@Mochan pong.. gtranslate fail.

Yeah. I think we need to forget building for next gen and just have something that works NOW!!! Then if people vote with their wallets it gets better.

/me is still betting on the tablet

/me thinks it will just be a branded nexus that is "official". like stamp on the case and all. also, i saw an ubuntu messenger bag in downtown chicago the other day

or something like the kde tablet
just a whitebox tablet with ubuntu branding

Yep, with a blue diamond with it ;)

@Takkat BHATTT? digital room correction.. what does that even mean?

1:04 PM
meh, lame joke

@Mahesh make this room even bigger than it is?

/me confused.

More people here, so reposting in this room.
There seems to be **tons** of questions (mainly unanswered, outdated answers) regarding the support of the Atheros AR9285 WiFi adapter. @jrg oh ok.Thanks for the information.I hope there will be a IRC channel for This project,Let me find out.
@jrg could you help me with Beta badge which is to give for beta testing ?

jrg
there's a badge?

yeah

jrg
that's only given out to people who participated in the private beta. nobody else can get that awarded to them.

umm yes
I dont want to know about how to get that badge , I want to know about whats this private beta ?
brother you there? If you busy then I will talk to you later. I dont want to disturb you brother.
@jrg Ok brother, you seems to be busy. No problem. I need to go.

jrg
