and it's a pretty specific question so not sure how many other AU members would be able to help me out seeing as I'm kind of asking for software which doesn't exist yet that I know of

It could work out.. I don't know of any translation indicators but there are a couple of translation apps around though.

@Oyibo as in, you don't run apps all the time. But indicators run in the background throughout.

And then, there was indicator-multiload which had a memory leak.
