the epicosity of sox audio editing/capturing from the cli is unparalleled
i don't use it for pranks but i hear some people have fun with it to playback differing noises in server rooms and whatnot
@izx that upgrade question, the guy needs to add old-releases.ubuntu.com or whatever it is
jrg

@LuisAlvarado i use audacity, and then do a noise cleanup.
is decidedly not geeky like that
if i can't script it i'm not interested...just saying

@Jorge noted, thx, on mob i/f so will edit it in later.
what's with all the 1rep no voice no question users in chat today?
22:54
say what?
there have been loads of "registered but no voice and browsing anyway without a question they're hoping to have answered" users today
i understand it more if someone has a question that's not answered and they pop in to chat, but don't have voice yet (maybe there should be a bot that posts this type of info) so i check, just to be helpful...but the fact that it isn't true is counter-intuitive
@aking1012, there's also an important issue with that
listens
most users that "need" to chat are the one's that still don't have the rep to chat
if there were questions with comments that requested chat i could make rooms
23:04
i remember one or two situations, that i kept exchaning comments because the user didn't had the rep to chat
@TheInterrupter e.g. my statement immediately after this
the funny thing is, AU after a 3 or 4 comments asks if we want to chat
caring users do it without needing a prompt from the system if the user wants it...just saying
lool
and if a user actually needs it should they really be talking in general? just saying...
personally i think stack should have an xmpp bounce point that lets you say "i have a contact for issue X of address [email protected]" where you can carry on a conversation in an XMPP client without the interface and just use a "normal" im client to talk about a problem
like a [email protected] address
think big or die right?
cryengine3 ftw just saying:

Tonights hack: star wars Lorem ipsum generator that spits out raw markdown.
(@mahesh)
@jrg lmk if you try out the cryptograme thing and any ui improvements. i'm not planning on pushing the quote database until it's all finished/polished-ish since it would make it sort of huge
jrg
jrg
@aking1012 ok, i'll do that as soon as I'm finished writing this email, and before I start my other project.
@jrg take your time...it's not really necessary, but i think it's a different-ish ui with zero dialogs so i'm interested to see if people think it's a)awesome but different or b)confusing
there's a unity reference in there somewhere
jrg
jrg
Ok, lets enjoy the game. :)
is there a way to put newlines in comments?
jrg
jrg
23:37
@LnxSlck what do you mean?
@LnxSlck not that i'm aware of...
he wants a linebreak in a comment...
yep
linebreak
jrg
jrg
Sorry. Do you want a code comment or a Ask Ubuntu post comment? is slightly confused
on SE is there a way to make a comment have a linebreak so you can post in a comment:
something
like
this
@jrg i want a linebreak in comments
@aking1012, exactly
jrg
jrg
23:39
oh, there is no way to do that afaik
i had to make an answer when i only wanted the user to make some commands
jrg
jrg
@aking1012 i should install python-pip, right?
and then pip install BeautifulSoup4 ?
you don't need pip. you need bs4
jrg
jrg
so... some sort of apt-get should do it, right?
at least on ubuntu...i don't have a mac to test...so maybe
jrg
jrg
23:44
no, i'm on ubuntu
package name python-bs4
it's not in use in the basic demo so you "could" just comment it out
thanks for actually looking though
jrg
jrg
ended up comment it out, couldn't get it to work shrug
if you're on Q it could be a little different my testing was on precise
jrg
jrg
entirely likely, since I am on Q
urp python3-bs4
jrg
jrg
23:48
although i'm using Python 2.7.3, so...
it's fine...i was just saying... it "should" import from bs4
i'ld make it run on base install with deps if it was packaged
Who's excited for the older version of Natilus in 12.10?
jrg
jrg
@Flabricorn ?
i'm excited for a three day deadline on positive cash flow...but that's just me
@jrg in 12.10 they're using 2.4 instead of 2.6.
23:52
@Flabricorn WAT? they're using an older version of nautilus so they can avoid a dev-fork that happened in 2.6?
the what is always unimportant...only the why
jrg
jrg
Heh, nice.
@aking1012 ok, so heres my feedback: Please make it so I can type instead of having to select.
way too much mouse work for my taste. Other than that, I <3 it.
@jrg so you got it running...awesome. it was a pure functional demo. check the other "not really tab tabs"
what do you mean by work? drag and drop is coming...along with larger letters/drag-drop targets
jrg
jrg
I had to mouse to A, click, mouse to the first letter, click, mouse back when it didn't change, click, etc etc etc.
Also Wayland's been delayed until at LEAST 13.04.
@jrg fair point. i think larger touch targets and drop targets would solve that
jrg
jrg
23:56
@Flabricorn Interesting, hadn't heard the Wayland news.
And I'm using GNOME nautilus 3.5.5.
I do have a line on a wayland PPA.
@aking1012 That might do it.
i like @mateo 's idea about hints and my own about conflicts for multiply selected translations... it's something that would def be sorted during a funding round
@jrg @aking1012 Nautilus 3.4 not 3.6, my bad.
@Flabricorn it happens
