@rlemon its the Face of Boe. I checked the scripts. :P
and also i have a comment on every user who asks stuff about the app showdown (both to those in chat and those not in chat): DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW THE BLOODY HECK TO READ RULES???

Q: Can something be installed in /usr by my app showdown project?

user71376I am working on a project for Ubuntu App Showdown Contest (https://launchpad.net/wuuzy) and I wanted to know if it is possible to install things like libraries in /usr. My project, in fact, use an extension system to improve itself with more options. It is like a plugin system and it generates li...

^ READ THE BLOODY RULES
</rant>
@EliahKagan did you try removing the drive from the enclosure and hooking it right into a desktop or something (or another enclosure) to make sure its not the drive?

jrg
@LordofTime Um, the rules were not clear until a day or two ago.
They made some clarifications because people were asking questions.

still doesnt matter. :p
@jrg the rules havent changed substantially, though, even with clarifications. therefore my original point stands :P

jrg
They were not clear, and this is "the place" where they are told to ask that stuff, so we're stuck with it. :P

@jrg orly?
hunts down mhall to complain, picks up a BFG whilst en route

jrg
@LordofTime Ah, but all the questions that I have seen are directly related to the clarifications that have been made because of these questions.
Now, we might be seeing entirely different sets of questions, but that's my take on things.
And don't go yelling at mhall, he's been pretty good about the whole thing. :P

8:14 PM
who said anything about yelling
said complain, not yell

jrg
Hunting down people implies it's not peaceful.
Particularly when you're doing it with a BFG.

oh this thing?
puts the BFG into the weapons locker in [UNDISCLOSED-LOCATION ANTI-ZOMBIE BUNKER]
the bunker was en route :P
NOW to find the mhall

@LordofTime Not recently. The drive used to work without problems as an internal drive. And also worked in this enclosure, on this computer. It still does work, most of the time, in this enclosure, on this computer (unless the problem has just worsened and I haven't realized yet). I have some old PPC macs that I might have trouble running Ubuntu on from a live CD, which I could test the drive out in...or I may wait until I'm done with some tasks on a PC where I can do this more easily.

@EliahKagan i'm thinking it could be the enclosure, i see this semi-often in clients' systems (both windows and linux)

@LordofTime (Live CD because Mac OS X doesn't support ext4.)

Hello AU - I'm trying to find if the LAMP stack included with Ubuntu Server 12.04 is suitable for production - not had much success with the AU search though. Any tips?

jrg
@tombull89 I don't see why it wouldn't be.

@tombull89 dont trust autoinstallers :P
that's my recommendation :P
/me says: install and configure MANUALLY

jrg
it's a basic LAMP stack, you're supposed to tweak it and go from there, optimizing as you go along because every recommendation is different.

just because you can

jrg
@LordofTime says the puppetmaster man.

8:22 PM
@jrg i configure everything by hand

jrg
@LordofTime oh, so you don't use puppet for configuration management, you use it for package management?

So, "yes, but you'll need to tweak it". I'd like to install it manually but I don't know enough about putting it in from scratch.

@LordofTime but it Sounds like Bode amiright?

the uni of new south wales intro to programming course is nice and engaging. i particularly liked how he stressed top-down problem solving and how it maps to OO, test cases, and how he keeps it light

adds that to his "Watch" list

Q: New to Linux, I cannot install new packages

Ben7005I am new to Linux (installed Ubuntu for the first time yesterday), and have never dealt with any unix-based OS. I started using Linux for the sole purpose of collaborating code with my partners via git. I first needed to install jdk/jre. However, when i tried to install it, like so: ben@ubuntu:~...
